This week on BWN, Patrick returns from vacation just in time for a huge week in the Nerdosphere! The trailer park, compared to a week ago, is very light, as the Nerds discuss trailers for the very strange Wicker and Jumanji: Open World. From there, the guys get caught up with X-Men '97 as they review episodes 5 through 7 of Season 2. With everything from Wolverine getting his adamantium back to Polaris rejoining the team to an impending clash with a deadly version of one of the most popular X-Men, the series continues to impress with its depth and storytelling. There is also a lot of News around the Nerdosphere, including a change of plans for the Booster Gold series, a confirmation that the Blade movie is truly dead, and a disappointing about-face for Wonderman as Season 2 was abruptly canceled, raising some real questions about how Marvel is handling their black actor issue. But, we close up shop this week by reviewing Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Despite the entire movie being leaked online (repeatedly), the latest movie about everyone's favorite wall-crawler was poised to have the second biggest opening box office ever, behind only Avengers: Endgame. The Nerds offer up their thoughts about the movie and answer the burning question: Is this the best Spider-Man movie ever? @WrestlngRealistwww.attitudeofaggression.com@PCTunney@itsmedpp@ViolentAesop@TheMindlessPod@therealcplatt@IWCWarChief@ChairshotMedia@BandwagonNerdsPROWRESTLINGTEES.COM/TheChairshot - Makes a GREAT GIFT!!!About Bandwagon NerdsJoin Patrick O'Dowd, David Ungar, PC Tunney, and DPP as they keep everyone up on all things nerd and maybe add some new nerds along the way. This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; even though we are Celebrating our 10th Year of Podcasting; we unfortunately exhausted all our energy on the Previous SDCC Reveals & Announcements Ep. So we are giving you a ReIssue episode instead from the Vault. (Originally Posted as Ep #143 - from October 2019). Original blurb: It’s a very special ep as we’re joined by not one, but two of favourite guests in Davey Damaged and Scotty so that’s right – it’s a Homer episode! Trent takes us through a vintage retrospective look at The Addams family by Playmates. Perfectly timed for Halloween, we wonder what could have been with this short-lived line and look to the future of the franchise as a new movie approaches. What characters didn’t get made, which ones make the camera glow and where does MC Hammer fit into it all? We make the jump to Show and Tell as Davey tries to trump us all with a purchase so large, we doubt it will actually fit in his toy room! There’s some DC, MOTU and even Final Fantasy options to choose from. Frank gives a lovely tribute showing that sometimes, the value of a toy; lays in more than its sticker price. Then it’s Quiz time and with Davey onboard, anything is possible. To say this episode goes off the rails is putting it mildly – but on the plus side we learnt that Trent can’t hold his liquor, Ben thinks photos record sound, Space Jam was an event and Rick Moranis is Trent’s muse. So hold on for this crazy ride that also serves as a farewell for one of the team…Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Charles and Jon talk to mammalwatcher and environmental lawyer Brett Hartl from his home in Prescott, Arizona. After beginning his working life as a ranger in Montana's Glacier National Park, Brett went to law school and now coordinates the Center for Biological Diversity's work on federal legislative issues that affect endangered species and other environmental concerns.Brett explains how - and why - he made the transition from a field biologist to environmental lawyer. He explains the process behind mounting a legal case, using Wolverine protection as an example. And he outlines the vital role mammalwatchers can play in helping environmental advocacy groups mount a legal case (see notes below). And Brett talks about some of his favorite mammalwatching adventures including bumping into a Wolverine in Montana and swimming with Blue Whales in Sri Lanka. At the start of the episode we get an update from Marc Bozon about progress to date on his 2026 Big Cat Year. You can read all about Marc's adventures, and his support for conservation, on his website including his encounter with the mythical Bornean Bay Cat.Notes: Brett explained that if any mammalwatcher has seen, tried to see, or has plans to see, a specific species then you could be key to mounting a legal case to protect a that animal, particularly for one of the more obscure mammals where it can be hard to find someone who would personally be harmed by that species' extinction. We, however, can legitimately explain why our hopes and dreams are in tatters if that particular vole or shrew were to disappear. So if you would like to help US environmental advocacy groups protect mammals, then consider becoming a member of one of the key groups fighting to protect US wildlife: the Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife, NRDC, and/or Wildearth Guardians. If you would like to be a standing declarant in particular, feel free to reach out to Brett at bhartl@biologicaldiversity.org and he will keep your contact information for future legal fights to better protect mammals under the law.You can support mammalwatching and buy us a coffee here https://buymeacoffee.com/mammalwatchingFinally did you know you can sign up to receive a weekly mammalwatching newsletter here? https://www.mammalwatching.com/subscribe-to-updates/Cover art: Brett Hartl in the Central African Republic.Dr Charles Foley is a mammalwatcher and biologist who, together with his wife Lara, spent 30 years studying elephants in Tanzania. In this special two-part conversation, Alex joins me to discuss his brand-new graphic novel, Marvel Dimensions, written and fully illustrated by Alex for Marvel and Abrams ComicArts. It's his second book in the Marvel Arts line, following Fantastic Four: Full Circle, and it arrives September 1st.The story begins as a sweeping journey through the classic origins of the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man, the Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine, and many more appear in dramatic painted sequences that deliberately echo their earliest adventures. A mysterious narrator guides us through these familiar moments. But gradually, the voice behind the story, and its reasons for telling it, become much less familiar. From there, the book turns darker and more unpredictable. Familiar stories begin changing, characters behave in unexpected ways, and the consequences spread across the Marvel Universe. Alex uses those classic characters and origins as the foundation for a much larger mystery, including new character concepts and a final act designed to make readers reconsider everything they have just seen. The hardcover also includes a separate 32-page comic that is pivotal to the overall story.

Send us Fan MailSubscribe and unleash your inner science goblin. We see you. We respect it.Some animals are majestic.Others......should probably stay very, very far away.In this hilariously horrifying episode of Wildly Curious, Katy Reiss and Laura Fawks Lapole debate the animals they could absolutely live without. From parasites that replace organs to frogs that break their own bones, this episode dives into some of evolution's strangest—and most disturbing—creations. Along the way you'll meet:The Hairy Frog—a frog that breaks its own toe bones and pushes them through its skin to create Wolverine-like claws. Human Botflies—parasites that hitchhike on mosquitoes before developing beneath the skin of mammals. Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs—the invasive insects that invade homes, destroy crops, and somehow make everything smell worse. The Tongue-Eating Louse—the only known parasite that functionally replaces an entire organ by becoming a fish's new tongue. Sloths—beloved by millions... and passionately roasted by Laura for nearly every evolutionary decision they've ever made. Bobbit Worms—giant ambush predators that hide beneath the sand and explode upward to capture unsuspecting prey—and occasionally hitchhike into home saltwater aquariums. Of course, beneath all the jokes is real science. Every one of these bizarre animals evolved these adaptations for a reason, proving once again that evolution doesn't care whether humans think something is creepy—it only cares if it works. If you love weird animals, parasites, wildlife biology, evolution, gross nature facts, or hilarious science podcasts, this episode is guaranteed to make you laugh... and maybe never look at nature the same way again. Michigan WR Andrew Marsh and Rich discuss his chemistry with Wolverines' QB Bryce Underwood, why fans should expect a more explosive UM offense under new HC Kyle Whittingham, and more. One of the biggest comics announcements of San Diego Comic-Con was the reveal that Matthew Rosenberg will become the next ongoing writer of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and this week he's here for his first in-depth interview about the series. Rosenberg opens up about initially turning down the job before IDW came calling a second time, why his run is inspired by the raw energy of the original Mirage comics, and how he plans to put the turtles through a relentless fight across New York City. We also discuss his love of Eastman and Laird's work, collaborating with artist Juann Cabal, bringing forgotten characters back into the spotlight, and why this story will embrace every corner of TMNT history while carving out its own identity. NEWS Marvel Comics solicitations October 2026 José Andrés joins Earth's Mightiest Heroes in 'Meals to Astonish: Avengers' #1 this October Marvel's Trick-Or-Read program returns with 'Infernal Hulk' and 'Spidey and His Amazing Friends' Punisher battles Black Widow, Wolverine, and Winter Soldier in new Marvel one-shot series Marvel and Williams Racing team up for 'Iron Man: Racing Towards Doom' #1 this October Captain Britain gets 50th anniversary special Rob Liefeld relaunches 'Avengelyne' with artist Daniel Mainé at Image Comics this November Lance Briggs, Kyle Higgins, and Danilo Beyruth announce sci-fi sports graphic novel 'The Trap' Exclusive: Dan Watters and Brian Level launch sci-fi horror series 'Mad Science Division' at Ignition Press Red Sonja and Barbarella unite for first-ever crossover series this November Archie celebrates 85 years with oversized anniversary special featuring comics all-stars Our Top Books of the Week: Dave: Godzilla Conquers The Multiverse #1 (Gerry Duggan, Javier Garron) Terminal #1 (Robert Kirkman, Joe Casey, Andy Kubert) Alex: Uncanny X-Men (Gail Simone, Jim Towe, Roge Antonio, Federica Mancin) Sicko #1 (Tini Howard, Amilcar Pinna)  Standout KAPOW moment of the week: Alex: x Dave: Superman #40 (Joshua Williamson, Dan Mora) TOP BOOKS FOR NEXT WEEK Alex: Is Ted Ok? #6 (Dave Chisholm) Dave: The Horror of Godzilla #1 (Tristan Jones,  Ethan S. Dave: Rocket Raccoon: Rocket Rewind #1 (Mike Mignola Cover) Alex: X-Men 34 Alexander Lozano '80s Colossus Variant Interview: Matthew Rosenberg talks taking over TMNT You described your run as "The Warriors meets Daredevil: Born Again" with plenty of action and humor mixed in. Those are some massive touchstones. What qualities from those stories became your creative north star for this new era of TMNT? Your story begins immediately after Gene Luen Yang's "The City That Never Dies" storyline, which sounds like it leaves the city fundamentally changed. How did Gene Luen Yang's finale create opportunities that wouldn't have existed otherwise? One of the biggest hooks is that the Turtles are being hunted over the course of a single night. What made that compressed timeline appealing, and how does it change the pacing compared to a more traditional TMNT story? You said the team hunting the Turtles is assembled specifically for this mission. Without spoiling who's involved, what makes this group uniquely equipped to challenge all four brothers at once? 10:59 Juann Cabal has shown he can handle kinetic action and expressive character work across Marvel and DC. What is it about his storytelling you're excited to see in TMNT?  You've mentioned your love for Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Mirage Studios era. Were there specific themes or storytelling techniques from those early comics that you wanted to bring back for modern readers? Your comics often balance brutal action with sharp humor and strong character voices. How do you approach writing the Turtles so each brother feels distinct, especially when they're under constant pressure? You've written everything from street-level crime stories to huge superhero events. Where does TMNT fit creatively for you, and does it scratch a different storytelling itch than books like What's the Furthest Place From Here? or your Marvel work? You're taking over with issue #25, which already feels like a milestone. Looking ahead, what do you hope readers say about your TMNT run after they've finished that first story arc? On day one, the committee voted YES on all four peptides they reviewed: BPC-157, TB-500, KPV, and MOTS-c. This went against the FDA scientists' own recommendation. There was an audible gasp in the room. Today they're voting on DSIP, Epitalon, and Semax, and I expect all three to pass too. If you'd like to work with me one-on-one, you can book a free call here. Mind Gap

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 24, 2026 71:23

The Avengers Doomsday trailer dropped this week and Doug has already watched it four times. The full reaction is here: what landed, what it means for the MCU, why the Russos coming back gives genuine reason for optimism, and why Thor not cracking a single joke in the entire trailer is one of the most promising signs this movie is going somewhere real. The biggest moments get the full breakdown. Captain America's return and the Mjolnir handoff. RDJ as Doctor Doom and the most logical in-universe explanation for why he looks exactly like Tony Stark. The Loki TVA card and whether the average viewer has any idea what that means. Shang-Chi showing up despite not appearing in a single piece of Marvel content since 2021. The Fantastic Four's involvement. Gambit getting a moment that made a 10-year-old lose her mind. And the theory that this film is essentially Marvel's version of Secret Wars, a way of pruning timelines, retiring legacy characters, and rebooting the X-Men in a way that actually makes sense. Speaking of the X-Men, Doug and Natalie watched all five original Fox X-Men films over the weekend specifically to prepare for Doomsday. The full post-mortem covers everything the franchise got wrong: Wolverine was never supposed to be the main character, Cyclops got done catastrophically dirty across every single film, Rogue never threw one punch in three movies, the X-Men never once fought as a team despite that being their entire thing, and Hugh Jackman looked completely fine in the year 2000 and we as a society did something terrible to that man over the next 24 years. Before all that: a Reddit question about socially acceptable life choices that are actually kind of insane when you sit with them. Spending money you don't have to impress people you don't like. Working five days a week just to get two days of freedom. Choosing your entire career path when you are 17 years old. Sports fanaticism and the double standard that exists between jersey-wearing adults and anyone who shows up to a convention. Gambling, specifically the rise of sports betting apps and why that cottage industry is genuinely sinister. Posting everything on social media compulsively. And the hokey pokey. The Urban Dictionary game returns. This round covers Gert, Yop, Opstopper, Cap-tain, Gup, and Poo Shuttling. Justin's definition of Poo Shuttling involves Colorado, underground pipe hacking, and a thriving East Coast black market. It is not correct. It is significantly better than correct. This week's recommendations: Justin: Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die (Hulu/Disney+). Sam Rockwell is extraordinary. Zazzy Beetz, Michael Pena, Juno Temple, Haley Lou Richardson. Weird, funny, and not far off from where we are headed. The third act gets away from itself slightly but the film is absolutely worth your time. Doug: The Long Walk (HBO). Stephen King adaptation. Dystopian future. 50 boys from 50 states walk until one is left alive. Dark as hell. Completely enthralling. Not a pick-me-upper. Go watch it.
