James Mangold's Cop Land Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro, and Sylvester Stallone in one of the most highly-anticipated films of the 1990s . . . Springing from the headlines of the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and today, James Mangold's 1997 police corruption drama was released to critical acclaim and tepid box-office. In an era of 90s Independent filmmaking, focusing on newspaper/magazine headlines and evening newscasts, Mangold would write and pitch a story (ostensibly a Western) set in modern day life. The reluctant hero, Sheriff Freddy Heflin (an overweight, tired, and sad Stallone), who is neither the Rocky or Rambo hero Stallone is known for, fighting the corruption of an all-star cast of big-city police living outside of the city in a mob financed town. Stallone versus Keitel, Robert Patrick, Peter Berg and John Spencer, with a cocaine-addled Ray Liotta as back-up, and a disheveled, angry, and calculating Internal Affairs officer played by DeNiro manipulating the scene, Mangold's second film - with obvious comparisons to Scorsese - stands out as an brutal and honest look at police corruption and those wiling to stand up against it. Few actors have embodied obsession, corruption, guilt, and authority quite like Harvey Keitel. In this Triple Feature actor focus, we examine three defining performances across three decades of filmmaking: The Duellists (1977), Bad Lieutenant (1992), and Cop Land (1997). From Ridley Scott's visually stunning debut feature, where Keitel plays a Napoleonic officer consumed by honor and vengeance, to Abel Ferrara's infamous portrait of addiction, moral collapse, and redemption in Bad Lieutenant, to James Mangold's examination of loyalty, corruption, and institutional decay in Cop Land, these films showcase the remarkable range and intensity that made Keitel one of the essential actors of the New Hollywood generation. Along the way, we'll discuss masculinity, power, violence, faith, police culture, and the evolution of American cinema from the 1970s through the 1990s. Join Mark Radulich and company as they explore three unforgettable films connected by one of the most compelling screen presences of the last fifty years.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Don't Kill the Messenger with movie research expert Kevin Goetz
Send Kevin a Text MessageStuart Ford, Chairman and CEO of AGC Studios and one of the most influential figures in independent cinema, joins host Kevin Goetz for a candid conversation about his journey from Oxford-educated lawyer to Miramax insider to founder of two major independent studios. Ford reflects on the mentors, deals, and instincts that shaped his career, and shares an optimistic vision for the future of independent film in an era of AI, streaming, and global market expansion. From Liverpool to Hollywood (04:17): Ford traces his unlikely path from an upbringing in Liverpool through Oxford, where he studied law and caught the entrepreneurial bug managing bands, to becoming an entertainment attorney during the British cinema boom of the early 90s.Miramax: The Real Film School (09:26): Drawn to the energy of American independent cinema, Ford leveraged his relationship with Miramax's UK office into a move to New York, where he rose to senior executive, co-heading acquisitions and ultimately leading international sales, working with filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino, Anthony Minghella, and James Mangold. The Birth of IM Global (14:55): After leaving Miramax, Ford moved to Los Angeles, borrowed $5 million from a London hedge fund, and launched IM Global in 2007.Paranormal Activity (19:50): Ford recounts acquiring the international rights to Paranormal Activity for $250,000 while the film languished at DreamWorks, then orchestrating a midnight screening that helped persuade Paramount to release it. Kevin Goetz reveals that a reshoot suggested by Steven Spielberg raised test scores by 15 to 20 points and sealed the deal.Launching AGC Studios (29:17): After selling IM Global to a Chinese private equity group, Ford launched AGC Studios in 2018. AGC has since produced nearly 45 films and television shows, including Hitman, Woman of the Hour, The Tinder Swindler, and Those About to Die.The Art of Risk Management (32:57): Ford lays out his core investment philosophy: financial and creative risk are inseparable, and the key is to manage both simultaneously. He offers Ron Howard's Eden as a case study in successful risk management. The Future of Independent Film (43:23): Ford shares an optimistic outlook for the independent sector, citing evolving streaming models, cost reductions, and growth in international markets as reasons for optimism. His message for the next generation is simple: responsible filmmaking doesn't mean compromising on creativity. It just means doing it at the right number.Host: Kevin GoetzGuest: Stuart FordProducer: Kari CampanoWriters: Kevin Goetz, Darlene Hayman, and Kari CampanoAudio Engineer: Gary Forbes (DG Entertainment)For more information about Stuart Ford:Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuart_Ford_(entertainment_executive)IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1023349/For more information about Kevin Goetz:- Website: www.KevinGoetz360.com- Audienceology Book: https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Audience-ology/Kevin-Goetz/9781982186678- How to Score in Hollywood: https://www.amazon.com/How-Score-Hollywood-Secrets-Business/dp/198218986X/- Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Substack: @KevinGoetz360- LinkedIn @Kevin Goetz- Screen Engine/ASI Website: www.ScreenEngineASI.com

A deep dive into one of the most overlooked -- and fascinating -- sides of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature winner: Bob Dylan, the filmmaker. While his music and lyrics have been studied endlessly, his work behind (and in front of) the camera remains largely unexplored. No other book has taken this angle, and with Dylan's legend still growing, the audience is more than ready for a bold new take. Bob Dylan as Filmmaker: No Time to Think (McNidder and Grace, 2026), the first book of its kind, opens up exciting new ways to think about the artistry of Bob Dylan. It offers a captivating exploration into movies that, according to Michael, showcase Bob Dylan not just as a subject, but as the primary author. These include Eat the Document--a short, experimental television film shot in 1966 and released in 1972; the sprawling, genre-blurring epic Renaldo and Clara (1978), both directed by Dylan himself; and the darkly surreal Masked and Anonymous (2003), directed by Larry Charles but co-written by and starring Dylan. Bob Dylan as Filmmaker explores what these movies reveal about "how it feels" to be Bob Dylan during three defining eras of his career: the revolutionary 1960s, the introspective 1970s, and the enigmatic early 2000s. Just as crucially, they illuminate Dylan's remarkable instinct for using film not merely as a medium, but as a deeply personal mode of expression. The book also provides an essential survey of Dylan's most recent movie projects, including those by other directors, in which Dylan's influence is less overt but no less powerful. Here, Michael argues that Dylan operates as a kind of "invisible co-author" in Martin Scorsese's Rolling Thunder Revue (2019), where Dylan appears as a slippery, self-mythologizing interviewee; Alma Har'el's haunting Shadow Kingdom (2021), a stylized livestream performance; and James Mangold's A Complete Unknown (2024), the Timothée Chalamet-led biopic shaped in part by Dylan's behind-the-scenes "script approval." Michael Glover Smith is a Chicago-based filmmaker, author and teacher. Michael's most recent movie, Hekla, starring Elizabeth Stam, will have it's festival premiere in early 2026. Michael is also the director of four award-winning feature films, the most recent of which, Relative, stars Wendy Robie (Twin Peaks) and is distributed by Music Box Films. It was a COLD day in mid January at FARHQ, in the Awakens Base LOL LOL LOL January 15 'in the year of our STAR WARS' return 2026, when Lucasfilm announced that after 14 years of leading the studio, President Kathleen Kennedy was stepping down Dave Filoni, who worked closely with creator George Lucas to build the Lucasfilm animation department on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and helped launch Star Wars live-action series alongside Jon Favreau on The Mandalorian, will take on creative leadership of the company as President and Chief Creative Officer and Lynwen Brennan will serve as Co-President. Their close collaboration and more than 30 years of combined senior executive experience will carry Lucasfilm into its next chapter of storytelling, with a strong foundation of creative vision and operational leadership guiding the studio forward. On the latest episode of Fandom Awakens Radio 'Now TWO there are ...... Filoni v Brennan a New Character Begins Days of Future Star Wars - Your hosts David Senden and Kyle Wagner discuss highlights taken from Kathy's exit interview, we discuss the 2 Co-presidents thing (very interesting to GO all in on a James Gunn / Peter Safran DC Studios esc approach) Upcoming Star Wars movie projects, heavily focused on a theatrical return in 2026-2027, include The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 22, 2026), Shawn Levy's Starfighter (May 28, 2027), and Dave Filoni's New Republic-era film. Other active projects include a Rey-centric New Jedi Order film and a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg. Here is a breakdown of the announced Star Wars film projects: Definite & In-Development Films Untitled Rey Skywalker Movie: Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, focusing on rebuilding the Jedi Order. Simon Kinberg Trilogy: A new trilogy currently in development. Projects in Limbo or Unknown Status Rogue Squadron: Patty Jenkins' project, previously shelved but reportedly back in consideration. James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi: A "biblical epic" exploring the origin of the Force. Taika Waititi's Star Wars Movie: Announced, but with no firm production timeline. Lando: Originally a series, now being developed as a movie with Donald Glover. Ok I am gonna say (and WE all know far too well what a LOT of SW fans today LACK, patience .............. funny when you consider everything they learned they learned from Kenobi and Yoda LOL but anyway), I'd say the odds of a LOT of these projects seeing the light of day just SHOT up, as long as Disney's new CEO (unlike Bob the Blunder halfwit), doesn't try anything STUPID. That Hunt for Ben Solo situation told us a LOT a LOT, of what has really been a problem in Star Wars ....................... and it was NOT the internet's favorite Boogywoman, cause here's some reality for you, had she NOT taken the job at the time GL asked her *sigh* I think Star Wars would have truly come to an END HAHAHAHA to paraphase how YODA might it "Now TWO there are ...... Filoni v Brennan a New Character Begins Days of Future Star Wars" a BRAND NEW episode of Fandom Awakens Radio starts RIGHT NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!
In 1997, a director named James Mangold released a movie starring Sylvester Stallone, Robert DeNiro, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, and Robert Patrick and for reasons no one can explain.... no one has heard of the movie Cop Land.Join the Best of the Rest discord: https://discord.gg/86P7jJXNPb Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/user/botrcast Email: bestoftherestpod@gmail.com Social Media @BotRCast on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Bonus content: Youtube Theme song (vocals) by Mark Benavides: Instagram Music by Mitch: BlueSky, SoundCloud Logo by Alex Brinegar: https://itsdesignthyme.com/ Additional artwork by Phillip Chacon, C7Productions: Instagram

Every reign comes to an end. After months of speculation, Lucasfilm has announced that Kathleen Kennedy will step down as President. Kathy has been President of Lucasfilm since the Disney acquisition of the company in 2012. Despite a fandom that at many times were hostile towards her, Kathy led Lucasfilm into a bright new era of Star Wars which saw so many animated shows, comics, books, live action series, and films which has expanded the mythos and helped the Galaxy reach a plethora of new fans.In her "Exit Interview" with Deadline, Kathy discusses her storied career and discuss what has happened with many cancelled projects like Steve Soderbergh and Adam Driver's The Hunt For Ben Solo, James Mangold and Beau Willimon's Dawn of The Jedi and beyond. As Kathy returns to producing (including the upcoming The Mandalorian And Grogu, and Starfighter), we salute her incredible career and wish her all the best in her future projects. While one reign ends, another begins. Kathy steps down and (as rumored) Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan rise. Dave will serve as President and Chief Creative Officer and Lynwen will serve as Co-President. Everyone knows about Dave's role within Lucasfilm as apprentice to George Lucas, but Lynwen's role within Lucasfilm has been equally as impressive. Lynwen has been at Lucasfilm since 1999, beginning her tenure at Industrial Light & Magic where she become its leader in 2009. She was General Manager of Lucasfilm in 2015 and President & General Manager of Lucasfilm Business in 2024. Her leadership has been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Visual Effects Society and the honor of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. With this new leadership, questions and concerns arise about what we can expect from what we've called colloquially "Phase 3" of Star Wars. Join us as we celebrate Kathy's career, toast to Dave and Lynwen's new roles, and speculate about what might be in store for Star Wars future!• • •TRIAD Of The FORCE is a STAR WARS+ podcast hosted by Gus, Nani, & Chase—Puerto Rican and queer creators sharing deep dives, and heartfelt conversations from a galaxy far, far away. Send us a textIn Part Two of The Fixate & Binge Podcast's conversation with actor and musician Larry Bagby and BAND ON THE RUN writer-director Jeff Hupp, the focus turns to legacy, collaboration, and the moments that define a creative life. The episode opens with host Joe Curdy offering a quick rundown of what's currently on his radar — including early thoughts on A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS, why he's holding out to binge all episodes of season 2 of HBO's THE PITT — followed by his Letterboxd review of the new horror film 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE. From there, the discussion returns to Bagby, as he reflects on one of the most beloved chapters of his career: Disney's modern classic HOCUS POCUS. Bagby shares behind-the-scenes memories, the unexpected cultural longevity of the film, and how its enduring popularity reshaped both his career and his connection with audiences. Bagby also pulls back the curtain on working with Academy Award winners Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon in James Mangold's WALK THE LINE. Jeff Hupp remains an essential voice throughout the conversation, offering thoughtful insight into Bagby's creative journey, their shared work on BAND ON THE RUN, and the rare chemistry that develops when actor and filmmaker truly trust one another. Together, Bagby and Hupp reflect on how their collaboration strengthened the film's emotional core — and hint at the possibility of future projects still to come. The episode reaches a special, intimate highlight when Bagby performs a live, original song from BAND ON THE RUN, giving listeners a powerful glimpse into his artistry as both a musician and storyteller.Warm, reflective, and full of heart, Part Two celebrates not only Bagby's enduring career, but also the collaborative spirit between artist and filmmaker — bringing this two-part Fixate & Binge journey to a thoughtful and inspiring close. Please note: Due to minor technical issues during recording, some audio may feature a slight echo — thank you for your patience and understanding.Thank you for listening! James Mangold writes and directs films across multiple genres, but the one style he uses as a prism for so much of his work is the American Western. James and Marc talk about how A Complete Unknown fits into the Western mold and why the placement of the camera was of utmost importance in telling this specific story about Bob Dylan. James also explains his directorial strategy and how it factored into the making of his films like Heavy, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma and Ford v Ferrari. Hosted on Acast. Elijah Wald's 2015 book, “Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan and the Night That Split the Sixties,” traces the events that led up to Bob Dylan's memorable performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. The book is about Dylan, but also about the folk movement, youth culture, politics and the record business. For the writer and director James Mangold, Wald's work provided an opportunity to tell an unusual story about the musician.“You could structure a screenplay along the lines of what Peter Shaffer did with “Amadeus,'” Mangold told the Book Review editor Gilbert Cruz. “I don't really know what I learned about Mozart watching “Amadeus.” But I do know that I learned a lot about how we mortals feel about people with immense talent.”Mangold's film “A Complete Unknown” is a chronicle of Dylan's early years on the New York folk scene, and it avoids easy explanations for the musician's genius and success. “What if the thing we don't understand, we just don't want to understand,” said Mangold, “which is that he's actually different? That he's just a different kind of person than you or I?”In the second episode of our special series devoted to Oscar-nominated films adapted from books, Cruz talks with Mangold about making a film centered on one of music's most enigmatic figures. In light of the recent release of the James Mangold film A Complete Unknown, Mark, Lawrence, Sarahlyn, and Dylan superfan Al discuss the man, the myth, and the music. The film clearly aimed to make the music, environment, and political activity of the '60s come alive today, but does the simplification required to make a coherent film undermine that goal? On this week's show, the hosts dive into A Complete Unknown, director James Mangold's surprisingly charming Bob Dylan biopic that's all about fame and what it looks like to be adjacent to it. Then, the three explore Dick Wolf's latest project: On Call, a half-hour cop procedural set in Long Beach, California that's streaming on Prime Video. Finally, the trio remembers David Lynch, the iconic, singular filmmaker who passed away last week at the age of 78. In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, the panel goes electric themselves and responds to a listener question from Rob: “Would you reminisce about the most electric experience you've had consuming a piece of culture with other people?” Email us at culturefest@slate.com. Arianne Phillips is the costume designer for the new film A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan. Phillips is an accomplished costume designer for stage and screen and has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design three times, beginning with James Mangold's Walk the Line in 2006. For A Complete Unknown, she teamed up again with Mangold to re-create Bob Dylan's visual style with extreme specificity. Phillips spent several years researching Dylan's wardrobe, working with vintage experts, designers, and even Etsy sellers to find pieces that captured each iteration of Dylan's unique style. This week, she joins Erin Fitzpatrick, WWW's associate director of fashion news, to talk about her approach to the project, working with Chalamet, and collaborating with Levi's on a new capsule collection that re-creates Dylan's favorite skinny jeans style.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
