In this week's episode we're jumping in the semi and travelling north to get our twang on with Winnipeg's Sean Burns & Lost Country. One of only a handful of traditional country acts playing that city, Burns and the band stayed busy in 2020. In between lockdowns they managed a Bakersfield EP and our feature album this week: an all big rig affair on "We Gotta Lotta Truckin' To Do" (2020). Anchored by Burns' unique and in-your-face delivery (bending notes within an inch of their lives), Lost Country race through a familiar-yet-fresh set of 13 truckin' covers (including one original). Leaning on the legends of this high-energy subgenre, renditions of songs made famous by Dave Dudley, Red Sovine, Del Reeves, Dick Curless and The Willis Brothers will keep your eyes wide and on the road. Recorded at their home away from home in the historic Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club in Winnipeg, "We Gotta Lotta Truckin' To Do" is a twangalicious and infectious slice of Sean Burns & Lost Country live and we couldn't help but include the whole dang thing in this week's show.

In Part One learn how he transformed the dive bar into a favourite stage for musicians, helped energize a scene, then walked away in protest, to everyone's dismay.

Word came down recently that one of our favourite places to hear live music, The Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club is facing an uncertain future. That hits us right in the heart, so we started off with just a few of the many songs immortalizing that hallowed stage. On a happier note, we’ve got plenty of new music, upcoming shows, concert news, and all around good times.

This weekend I had the opportunity to see the fabulous new movie "The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom," and it got me to thinking about what a great songwriter she is, so we had to pay a bit of a tribute. We also look forward to some great shows next weekend, including Chris Carmichael live at Sunset Saloon, and Jack Marks’ Winnipeg debut at the High & Lonesome Club. We’ve got Folk Fest music, new music, and one of the greatest guitar solos of all time.

This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of the best damn club on the planet, and arguably our city’s most important music venue, The Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club. John Scoles & his team down there are doing the Lord’s work, even though they’ve got a whole lotta devil in ‘em. They’ve given us some amazing musical memories over the past 10 years, and we’re absolutely sure that there are many more yet to come. This week’s show is all about the church at Main & St. Mary, with music and memories galore. Here’s to many more!

Too many themes to fit into two hours, we super-sized the show today and took over for Bluegrass Guy who took the holiday off, pushing the show to three hours, and I still ran out of time! First up, it would be inappropriate not to recognize Remembrance Day by playing some songs about soldiers & war, but more importantly, we played some songs about peace. Coming up next weekend some Winnipeg all-stars pay tribute to an under-appreciated Canadian songwriter/musician legend, David Essig. Essig will be in town to play alongside The D. Rangers, Romi Mayes, and more as they launch the homegrown Essig tribute record, Beverley Street on Saturday. So, a brief lesson in all things Essig with some songs he's played on, produced, and written. November 12 is Neil Young's birthday, and our friends at the High & Lonesome Club have been celebrating in style with a weeekend of amazing Neil Young music in Neilfest, and we relived some of it with our own set of Neil classics and covers.
