The first issue of Imbibe Magazine hit store shelves twenty years ago in 2006. It was a fascinating time to be a drinks magazine because drinks – and magazines – have changed A LOT since then. Paul Clarke, Imbibe's Editor in Chief sits down with Greg and Sother to talk about the last twenty years in the drinks publication's history: from its Y2K roots to the heady days of the cocktail revolution in the 2010s to the bad situations we've all had to make the best of in 2020 and beyond. Paul gets into what has and hasn't changed, what modern drinkers want in a cocktail program, and how it's always important to make sure you're serving your readers… and your listeners first.PLUS, Greg went to Canada and guess what's in full swing up there? It begins with “summer” and ends with “sherry.”Follow Imbibe at @imbibeFollow Paul at @cocktailchronLINKSBecome a Regular: patreon.com/SpeakeasyRegularsFor resources on dealing with cold hard water agents in your community visit nouswithoutyou.la/ and @thenycallianceThe Speakeasy is now on YouTube! Today's West Coast Cookbook & Speakeasy Podcast for our especially special Daily Special, Smothered Benedict Wednesday is now available on the Spreaker Player!Starting off in the Bistro Cafe, Trump is likely waiving his immunity by traps he set for himself in cases he filed. Then, on the rest of the menu, Trump's $10 Billion dollar BBC lawsuit is about to backfire spectacularly; mismanagement at a massive ICE facility in Texas contributed to detainee deaths even as millions of wasted tax dollars enriched contractors; and, police are investigating a large burning cross at a Chicago park. After the break, we move to the Chef's Table where after the troubled lead-in to the World Cup, the UN human rights chief urges a ‘rethink' of US immigration policy; and, adding more turmoil to a chaotic World Cup buildup for Iran, FIFA is accused of revoking the ticket allocation for fans at the team's three group-stage games in the United States. All that and more, on West Coast Cookbook & Speakeasy with Chef de Cuisine Justice Putnam.Bon Appétit! The Netroots Radio Live PlayerKeep Your Resistance Radio Beaming 24/7/365!“It may be safely averred that good cookery is the best and truest economy, turning to full account every wholesome article of food, and converting into palatable meals what the ignorant either render uneatable or throw away in disdain.” – Eliza Acton ‘Modern Cookery for Private Families' (1845)Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/west-coast-cookbook-speakeasy--2802999/support.
White letters on a tire sidewall look like a small detail, but they carry decades of meaning. That bold ring of text became a calling card of 1960s and 1970s muscle cars, street racing, and the idea that performance should look like performance. We break down why the trend exploded, why it's showing up again in today's vintage and retro builds, and how branding and aesthetics can steer a tire choice just as much as the practical stuff. We also get specific about how white letter tires are actually made. Raised white lettering is built into the tire during manufacturing, using white rubber that's molded and cured with the rest of the sidewall for long-term durability. Painted white lettering is applied after the tire is cured, which opens the door for customization but usually demands more maintenance. From smart cleaning habits to avoiding harsh chemicals, we talk about what keeps letters bright, what makes them yellow, and the modern options like temporary decals or having a pro apply custom sidewall designs. Then we take a fun left turn through automotive history, from the Going-to-the-Sun Road and early road-trip culture to landmark moments tied to Healey, Porsche, Le Mans, and Ford's “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” era. We follow that with Houston driving destinations featuring hidden speakeasies, and wrap with Don's drive of the 2026 GMC Sierra EV Denali Max Range, including range expectations, tech choices, weight, and what EV mileage testing really means on the road. This week I sit down with Elise Orozco from Raising Rock for a conversation that feels deeply personal and incredibly timely. We share remarkably similar stories of stepping away from ambition, hustle, and outside success in exchange for something we discovered mattered far more: presence. Elise opens up about leaving a high-level corporate career after realizing that while she was succeeding professionally, her family was often receiving the exhausted leftovers of what remained. What follows is an honest conversation about motherhood, identity, slowing down, surrender, and learning to embrace God's priorities instead of culture's expectations. The Scottish Highlands are many things, but “tropical” isn't usually listed as one of them. Stewart talks with Greg and Sother about Fettercairn's long history in the highlands, their storied past as makers of blended scotch before they delved into single malts, the unique cooling ring technique that gives them their tropical house style and their advanced age statements, including a 40 year-old scotch whisky that your hosts are lucky enough to try.PLUS, French citizens consumed more beer than wine recently for the first time in recorded history. This episode is an invitation to rethink what sanctification actually looks like. If you've felt pressure to transform yourself overnight or believed that becoming like Jesus should be faster and cleaner than it is, this conversation will meet you right where you are. I sat down with Matt Chandler to talk about sanctification, suffering, surrender, and the slow process of spiritual formation. This feels less like an interview and more like a mentoring session with someone who has walked with God through incredible highs and devastating lows. Matt makes the case that becoming like Jesus is not a light switch flipping on, it's an oak tree slowly growing over time. An oak becomes strong through rain, sunlight, dry seasons, storms, and deep freezes. In the same way, spiritual maturity develops through every season of life, not just the easy ones. In this episode, Matt walks through what spiritual formation actually looks like: Sanctification is messy and non-linear, but every turn moves you forward Growth starts with humility and surrender, not strength or self-reliance God is not waiting for you to fail, He's cheering your growth like a loving Father When you mess up, run toward God, not away from Him Suffering is often where we grow most because God meets us there Community is essential, you cannot become like Jesus in isolation Rather than perfection and performance, Matt shares the invitation to stay close to Jesus, let Him transform you over time, and trust Him in every season. Nothing is wasted. God uses it all to form us into the image of Jesus. Becoming like Jesus is slow, messy, humbling, and beautiful. This episode is about surrendering the pressure to fix yourself and letting Jesus do the transforming work. If you don't quit, you win. In this episode, Shan sits down with storyteller and pleasure educator Seema Anand to explore one of the most overlooked (and underestimated) tools of intimacy: your hands. Recorded live in London in front of an audience of sex educators and pleasure-positive voices, this conversation focuses on expanding your pleasure potential, with a special emphasis on hand sex, as we celebrate the launch of our brand new Käma jewelry collection, inspired by the Kama Sutra. Seema shares what the Kama Sutra actually teaches about touch, including specific finger combinations, how intention shapes sensation, and why hands play a central role in pleasure. We also explore the connection between the Kama Sutra and lunar phases, rethink the art of foreplay, and touch on the idea of being multi-orgasmic, and what that can look like.
In this episode, Brooke and I dive into a struggle so many Christian women share: feeling disconnected from their bodies, overwhelmed in their lives, and genuinely unsure why their health is suffering. What often shows up: Constant stress and urgency Snapping at loved ones Poor health or confusing symptoms Feeling unable to slow down The root issue isn't just physical, it's a whole-person misalignment. Why "Healthy" Efforts Aren't Working So many women are trying: Diet changes Supplements Exercise plans But still feel stuck. The missing piece? The "why" behind the dysfunction. Your body responds to: Chronic stress Emotional wounds Spiritual disconnection Without addressing those, surface-level fixes just won't last. Living in Survival Mode A key theme we talk about is the nervous system. So many women are stuck in fight-or-flight, which looks like: Everything feeling urgent Inability to rest Constant distraction Burnout and irritability Your body was designed to handle stress briefly, not live in it daily. When it does, both physical and emotional health begin to decline. Emotions Are Signals Instead of suppressing emotions, Brooke reframes them as signals: Anger → often rooted in fear Anxiety → often tied to overload Irritation → unmet needs Learning to name emotions helps calm your body and understand what's really happening. Biblically, emotions aren't sinful, they're human. Even Jesus experienced deep grief and distress. The goal isn't to avoid emotion, but to remain obedient within it. Connection Before Correction This applies to both parenting and personal growth. Instead of immediately fixing behavior: Pause Attune Understand When you feel seen (and help others feel seen), real change becomes possible. Why You Feel Overwhelmed The issue often isn't effort, it's capacity. Your nervous system determines how much you can handle. If it's overwhelmed, adding more habits only makes things worse. Healing expands your capacity over time so you can handle life differently, even if your responsibilities don't change. The Work That Changes You Real transformation requires deeper work: Processing emotions Facing past wounds Letting go of control Surrendering to God It's not easy, but it leads to lasting peace and clarity. Getting Back Into Alignment So many women are living out of order: Work and responsibilities first God and self last True alignment looks like: God Family Self-care Everything else When God is first, everything else begins to fall into place. Self-Care Isn't Selfish Neglecting yourself leads to burnout and disconnection. Taking care of yourself allows you to: Show up fully for others Respond instead of react Live with more peace and joy You weren't designed to run on empty. Final Takeaway Your body, mind, and spirit are connected. Healing starts when you: Slow down Pay attention Process what's beneath the surface Reorder your life around God It's not about doing more. It's about living aligned.
