Youtube InstagramSpotifyBioAbe Yellen's latest single, “South of Italy,” unfolds like a vivid dream an emotionally rich meditation on heartbreak, longing, and the slow journey toward healing. Anchored by layered harmonies reminiscent of The Beach Boys and a hauntingly intimate chorus, Yellen captures the raw vulnerability of love lost. As the song builds, swelling drums and orchestral arrangements expand the sonic landscape, guiding listeners from introspection toward emotional release. The track's gradual ascent reflects the reality of moving through grief, mirroring the experience of a scenic train ride  one that inspired the song during Yellen's own travels to Positano on Italy's Amalfi Coast. “When something hard happens, we want to move on as quickly as possible,” Yellen explains. “But it's okay to sit in sorrow, let it run its course, and take your time before moving forward.”Music runs deep in Yellen's family lineage, with Grammy-winning relatives and an uncle who tours as guitarist for country superstar Kenny Chesney. His earliest performances took place in church, where he first learned to play guitar, laying the foundation for a lifelong dedication to music.Professionally, Yellen began his career as a roadie for his brother Winston's indie folk band, Night Beds. Thrust unexpectedly into the role of drummer during a live performance, Yellen rose to the challenge  a defining moment that launched his evolution as a musician. He later transitioned to guitar, developed into a sought-after full-time producer, and formed his own band in Austin, Texas. Now based in Los Angeles, Yellen is turning his creative focus inward, channeling years of production experience into his own artistry. This renewed direction culminates in his forthcoming album, The Long Goodbye, set for release later this spring. The project explores themes of love, loss, reflection, and renewal, further establishing Yellen's voice as both intimate and expansive.“South of Italy,” released January 30 with promotional support from Starlight PR, is available across all streaming platforms. Fans can anticipate upcoming music videos and live performances throughout Southern California.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

This week, a special road trip episode featuring award-winning Owensboro, Kentucky bluegrass singer/songwriter Rick Faris and his band recorded live at the 2024 Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. The annual Walnut Valley Festival, now in it's 53rd season, is one of the oldest and most respected acoustic music festivals in the world. Held at the Winfield, Kansas fairgrounds, more than 30 musical acts will perform on four separate stages, presenting over 200 hours of live music. Also, there is a dedicated contest stage where contestants vie for national and international championships in Finger Style Guitar, Flat Pick Guitar, Bluegrass Banjo, Old Time Fiddle, Mandolin, Mountain Dulcimer, Hammered Dulcimer, and Autoharp. There is a juried arts and crafts fair, exhibits by renowned instrument makers and music shops, family activities, a bevy of food vendors, a farmer's market and even a pub! An unusual aspect of Walnut Valley is its campground tradition. Campsites are not reserved and campers line up to claim a choice campsite during the "Land Rush.” Walnut Valley Festival goers often bring their own musical instruments to participate in the sometimes all night campground jam sessions. Bands like Old Sound and Sally & The Hurts that began as "Jam Bands" in the campgrounds, have even been invited to perform at the festival. Rick Faris is a Kansas Music Hall of Fame Member who was recently awarded the “Songwriter of the Year” at the 2024 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards making him an 8-time IBMA Award winner. In addition Rick won the coveted “New Artist of the Year” in 2022. Faris also spent 11 years with Special Consensus while the band earned two GRAMMY nominations before embarking on his chart topping solo career. The Rick Faris Band, is an International touring Bluegrass outfit playing in the US, Mainland Europe, the British Isles and Canada. They bring sibling harmony and comedic relief with brother JimBob Faris on bass and a youthful snap to their original brand of music with a couple of bluegrass thoroughbreds, Henry Burgess (who grew up with fiddle legend Byron Berline) and Gibson Davis (who is a third generation bluegrass musician following father Chris Davis and his Grandfather Danny Davis). Rick recently moved to Owensboro, Kentucky the Bluegrass Music Capital and has opened his Faris Guitar Co. - https://rickfaris.com/press-kit In this week's “From the Vault” segment, OHR producer Jeff Glover offers a 1988 archival recording of gospel music legends The Chuck Wagon Gang performing the 1934 J.R. Since January 2024, few days have gone by without carving out some time to indulge in Sam Haft's work. Every aspect of Hazbin Hotel on Prime Video is wow-worthy, but Haft and Andrew Underberg have a magnificent knack for crafting one earworm after the next. Oftentimes, one of their songs is the last thing I hear in my head before drifting off to sleep, and it's the very first thing that comes to mind when I wake up the next day. I'm willing to bet many can relate because the Hazbin Hotel Season 1 soundtrack reached #13 on the Billboard 200, and now it's happening all over again. The Hazbin Hotel Season 2 soundtrack managed to hit a high of #8 on the Billboard 200.The success of the soundtracks beyond the main series is a remarkable achievement, but one of the most staggeringly impressive aspects of Haft and Underberg's work is how heavily, and successfully, their songs contribute to the Hazbin Hotel storyline. Yes, the songs can simply be a blast to listen to, but they're also brimming with brilliant narrative subtext. With Hazbin Hotel Season 2 out in full, Haft took the time to swing by the Collider Forces studio to break down his journey to the hit Prime Video series, and also to dig into the creation of many of the Season 2 songs. He offered up a peek behind the curtain of much-talked-about tracks like “Gravity,” “Piss (A Love Song), and “Love in a Bottle,” but he also made a point to zero in on one particular aspect of “Live to Live" because he thinks it's actually “the most important musical moment of the entire show.” Hosted on Acast. Text us about this show.In just a short five year span, Michael Grabner has become one of Wisconsin's most prolific singer-songwriters. From his first album, Restart (2021), to his solo acoustic sophomore effort, A Story I Can't Tell (2023), through the nine singles he's dropped since, Michael's growth and maturity as a songwriter is all on display. Those nine singles are combined with three new tracks for a new album called The Rock Garden Recordings and it's Michael's best collection of songs to date. Every song is performed by the trio of Michael on vocals and acoustic guitar, drummer Ric "Spatula" Armstrong, and Rock Garden Studio producer Marc Golde on everything else. Now Michael has assembled The Ghosts of Electricity, his band that brings these gems to the stage and they more than do these songs justice. (featured photo shows David, his wife Yvonne, and son, Joey, when young) Meet the Incredible Dr. David Antonuccio, Part 2 of 2 Shrink, Songwriter, and Hero Today we continue our conversation with my dear friend and esteemed colleague, Dr. David Antonuccio, a true scholar, clinician, researcher, musician, and champion of scientific transparency. The Nicotine Patch Study David revisited his landmark research on the nicotine patch, a costly trial involving roughly 600 participants who were randomly assigned to receive either a real nicotine patch or a sham patch. The goals were to assess safety and efficacy. The safety data looked reassuring. However, the efficacy findings were unexpected: the placebo patch worked just as well as the active nicotine patch in reducing smoking. The sponsoring company published the safety data but refused to publish—and refused David access to—the efficacy findings, which showed no advantage for the nicotine patch. You can check the link to the NEJM article here.  David writes: "Notice the 48 week follow-up data were excluded in this paper despite the fact that they were available. That really annoyed me. I also now believe that the original version of the paper was ghostwritten and ghost analyzed by the industry folks.in other words.  I'm not sure that the authors ever had access to the "raw" data before they were analyzed." This was important because there was a decrease in smoking DURING the study among those wearing the patch, and getting their "fix" of nicotine that way. . . but what happened AFTER the study?  David writes: "Here is the link to the follow up paper that emphasized efficacy and included the 48 week follow-up data." Notice that this paper was not published until three years later, when the Nicotine Patch had already been heavily advertised and sold on the market. This early experience in his career revealed the tension between marketing interests which focus on sales, and scientific interests which focus on truth and transparency—a daunting and frustrating pattern that would emerge again and again in his career. Expert Testimony in a Tragic Criminal Case David then described expert testimony he provided in a deeply troubling legal case. A 72-year-old woman, happily married for 50 years and a respected kindergarten teacher, had recently been prescribed Paxil, along with Ambien and Ativan. She abruptly, and without memory, woke up in the middle of the night and stabbed her husband 200 times and was subsequently arrested for homicide. There was no jury trial; instead, a plea bargain was used to determine sentencing. Dr. David Antonuccio was called as an expert witness in her defense. He described Dr. David Healy's research documenting a significant increase in both suicidal and violent urges among some patients taking SSRIs, especially Paxil. He argued that this woman's bizarre behavior was consistent with a drug-induced dissociative or fugue state. Based in part on David's testimony, the charge was reduced to manslaughter, and the judge sentenced her to time served, allowing her to return home to her children. For more on this topic: David Healy's Research on SSRIs and Homicidal Urge SSRIs Called on Carpet Over Violence Claims Black Box Warnings and Patient Rights David also emphasized the urgent need to revise Black Box warnings to reflect the full range of possible toxic or dissociative effects of psychiatric medications—not just suicidality. He has long advocated for a Patient Bill of Rights to ensure scientific transparency and informed consent. A Surprising Conversation with Dr. John Nash David shared a fascinating personal story about calling Dr. John Nash, whose life inspired the award-winning film A Beautiful Mind. In the movie, Nash's recovery from schizophrenia  is portrayed as medication-dependent. However, Nash told David directly that this was not true—the medication narrative was added to the script, possibly out of concern that portraying his recovery without meds might discourage viewers from taking prescribed medications. Nash said: "What saved me was the support of family and friends." Music, Truth, and "Buzz" David is also a talented songwriter. One of his songs, "Buzz," addresses the emotional and ethical issues surrounding electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). The inspiration came from a man in the Midwest who was legally ordered to undergo ECT against his will. A widespread public outcry ultimately convinced the judge to rescind the order. Forgiveness and "In the Air Tonight" One of David's favorite songs is Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight," which he sees as a deeply spiritual musical meditation on forgiveness—a theme David considers one of the most powerful psychological forces we possess. David explains that the Phil Collin's song is about forgiveness, but more indirectly and specifically about the songwriter's inability to forgive. And yes—David sang it live for us on the podcast! You might be interested in this chapter that David coauthored on the science of forgiveness Thank you for joining us today. And heartfelt thanks to you, Dr. David Antonuccio, for your gifts of enlightened skepticism, ethical courage, incisive scientific thinking, and soulful musical talent. David, Rhonda, and David

TrulySignificant.com honors Texas legendary musician and author Bob Livingston. Bob Livingston's true significance isn't just that he's an Austin “legendary guitarist.” It's that he quietly helped define the soul of Texas music while never chasing the spotlight—and then spent decades using music as a bridge between cultures. Here's why Bob Livingston truly matters: A Founding Voice of the Austin Sound Bob Livingston was part of the original Austin progressive country / cosmic cowboy movement in the late '60s and '70s—before Austin was branded as the Live Music Capital of the World. He co-founded Lost Gonzo Band, which became the house band at the Armadillo World Headquarters, ground zero for Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, and the outlaw-country revolution.Livingston wasn't a sideman chasing trends; he was helping invent the sound that blurred folk, country, rock, and storytelling. If Willie Nelson opened the door, Livingston helped build the room. ✍️ A Songwriter's Songwriter Bob's songwriting is deceptively simple—honest, literate, and emotionally precise. His songs have been recorded by artists like Jerry Jeff Walker and Gary P. Nunn.He writes with a novelist's eye: place, character, regret, hope—all without flash. In Austin terms: Bob Livingston is the guy musicians listen to after the gig.  A Cultural Bridge, not just a Musician. What elevates Livingston beyond “local legend” is what he did after Austin fame was available to him.He became deeply connected to Mexico and Latin American music, blending Texan folk with regional Mexican styles.Bob Livingston used music as soft power—a way to humanize people across borders through shared stories and rhythms. Integrity Over Industry Livingston consistently chose:Artistic authenticity over commercial packagingCommunity over celebrityLong-term influence over short-term applauseThat choice is why he's revered rather than merely remembered. In a town known for ego and excess, Bob Livingston became a symbol of quiet excellence. The True Significance (If You Strip It All Down) Bob Livingston represents something increasingly rare: A life where talent, humility, curiosity, and service stayed aligned. He helped shape Austin's musical identity, then spent the rest of his career proving that music is not about fame—it's about connection, belonging, and shared humanity. Remember this from Dare of an Angel- We did it simply to do it. We did it to be tender, yet tough, We did it for the beauty of music. Isn't that explanation enough.Visit www.BobLivingstonMusic.com to buy Gypsi Alibi- A Gonzo Memoir and all of Bob's music.  WEBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

Her performances at Café Carlyle have showcased her eclectic repertoire, including original songs, Broadway numbers, and nods to her father and Ray Charles, for whom she was named. The New York Times praised her as a “singer confidently following her heart.” She has been a part of The Gap's “Back to Blue” television ad campaign, and has ventured into the fashion world, appearing on magazine covers and participating in fashion weeks. She sang alongside her father in the final year of his Madison Square Garden residency in 2024 and says her favorite Billy Joel song is “Lullaby (Goodnight, My Angel),” which he wrote for her. Today, we welcome Dennis Welch — a lifelong songwriter and creative force who is now experiencing a remarkable musical renaissance in his sixties. Dennis has written more than 500 songs, published two books, played concerts far and wide, and built a body of work anchored in one central identity: storyteller.Dennis's WebsiteDennis on YouTube@Poo_Welch on InstagramDennis's Facebook pageAfter recording an album in 2000, Dennis continued writing but went 18 years without releasing new music… until a single moment changed everything. When his longtime friend, Little River Band guitarist Rich Herring, heard one of Dennis's songs, he offered to produce a single — which turned into an album, and then another, all landing on the first Grammy ballot in multiple categories. His newest album, Strong, released this July, continues this extraordinary creative chapter. Dennis's message is simple but powerful: Never give up. Keep creating. You never know what's around the next corner.A Renaissance at Sixty: Why Now?Dennis, your story is such a powerful example of perseverance. After releasing an album in 2000, you kept writing but didn't return to the studio for nearly two decades. Today, we welcome Greig Watts, a powerhouse in songwriting, publishing, and music development. Greig is one-third of the internationally successful songwriting and publishing team DWB, known for selling millions of units worldwide and for pioneering early breakthroughs in markets like Japan and South Korea long before the global rise of J-Pop and K-Pop.Greig's Website @greigwatts on Instagram Greig's Facebook page Greig's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/greigwatts/For songwriters who feel stuck, discouraged, or tired of rejection, his mission: help creators overcome setbacks, rediscover joy, and keep fighting for the dream that first sparked their love of music. Greig has captured decades of experience—and the heart of his creative philosophy—in his bestselling book, Keeping the Dream Alive. It's part memoir, part guide, and part rallying cry. He's overseen 16 Eurovision entries in 10 consecutive years, coached dozens of successful writers, spoken at industry conferences from Moscow to Taiwan to Amsterdam, served as a BBC Music Consultant, and mentored songwriters around the world. From Almost Quitting to International SuccessGreig, your book opens with a vulnerable story—by 2003 you almost walked away from music entirely. What helped you turn rejection into fuel instead of failure, and how did that turning point shape the book Keeping the Dream Alive? The Mindset of PersistenceYou say showing up matters more than talent. What does “showing up” actually look like for songwriters—and how can creatives overcome procrastination, self-doubt, and the belief that they're not good enough? What's the secret to finishing songs instead of endlessly rewriting them?Protecting Creativity While Treating Music as a BusinessYou're very honest that loving music isn't enough—you also have to monetize it to keep going. How can songwriters protect their creativity from burnout while still building a viable career in an intensely competitive industry?Finding Success in Unexpected PlacesYou and DWB broke into Japan and Korea long before most UK or US writers even knew those markets existed. You also helped make Eurovision songwriting camps what they are today. How has seeking out “the niche” shaped your creative and business success?Mentorship, Neurodiversity & Keeping the Dream AliveYou've launched courses supporting songwriters—including neurodiverse creatives—and you speak often about defending the underdog. How do you help writers identify their strengths, build a supportive team, and keep the dream alive even when people around them doubt them?
