The Mind Control of Mount Making with Alex Abbott, Director of DauphinIn this episode, I sat down with Alex Abbott, Art Consultant and Director of Dauphin, a company that specializes in displays and mounts.I speak to Alex about what his company does - which a lot of you have certainly come into contact with but not been fully aware of. Alex does the unseen work of ensuring the objects we view and love in museums, galleries, and homes are mounted with safety and care. That ancient jug you saw last week at the Museum of Natural History? That was mounted and tilted at a 40 degree angle by Alex and his team, but his main objectives are not to impress the viewer with his skills of mounting a work of art or history - his objective is that his work remains as invisible as possible while keeping whatever it is he is working with, safe. I speak to Alex about the artworks he has worked with in the past, including Barbara Heptworth sculptures and suits of armor. I ask him what sort of things need to be considered when consulting on how works of art or objects should be displayed, and also what its like to be director of a company at quite a young age - he took the helm of Dauphin at just 25 years old. We talk about the psychology of displays, the unseen work of mount makers in the arts, so much more. It is the end of an error in Cleveland, and we can now celebrate the dumbest tank job in the history of dumb tank jobs: A shrewd snakeoil salesman always knows when the jig is up. Paul DePodesta could see that the 2025 Browns were boring deep into the earth's mantle toward a new low, even for them. He had burned through a decade of benefit-of-the-doubt from Stockholm Syndrome-suffering Browns fans and the often-fawning media. He could hear the hecklers, as well as the whispers about the man behind the curtain. DePodesta knew that once the Browns burned through both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders — the team's desperate double-reverse flea-flicker Hail Mary effort to replace the quarter-billion-dollar imaginary-friend quarterback he traded their future for — he would no longer be able to sell his swindle. And there, sitting on his LinkedIn page like a rube fresh off a turnip truck or a lonely, diamond-studded dowager, were the Colorado Rockies: a perennial doormat of a baseball franchise coming off a 119-loss season. So DePodesta, the Duke and Dauphin of Moneyball, tied some bedsheets together and slipped out the back window of Browns headquarters before anyone could nab him. “The Browns were good at planning for the future to win while DePodesta was here,” wrote Jason Lloyd in The Athletic. “They just rarely got around to the actual winning. It was like booking and planning elaborate Caribbean vacations but never taking them.” No, Jason, that's not quite correct. What DePodesta did was like investing money needed for food and roof repairs into cryptocurrency, then telling the family over a crackers-and-ketchup dinner that they were too stupid to understand his daring long-range vision. DePodesta, the Browns' former Chief Strategic Officer, was at least magnanimous enough to accept a tiny sliver of blame for the Deshaun Watson fiasco. Sort of. When cornered by the Rockies media about Watson in his introductory press conference, DePodesta said: Here's what I would say, and I truly believe this. I believe that most of the decisions, especially the big ones like that, are organizational decisions, right? I'm not a believer in the ‘King Scout' situation where there is one guy who makes every call. The jobs are too complex, the decisions are too hard. They impact too many different things. So I always think these sort of collective decisions, it can be hard to get unanimous (opinions) on those types of things. Everyone who was a part of that? We all own that. We just do, that's part of the deal. What an absolute cheesedick. DePodesta sounds exactly like the “consultant” who comes to you, the assistant manager, and says: Replace all our desks with standing work stations and the coffee machine with inspirational posters. You can sign off on those decisions. I was never here. I will never stop being amused by the earnest discussions about which sequence of years of deliberate non-competitiveness made their organization the best in North American pro sports, the Cleveland Browns or the Philadelphia 76ers. (If you don’t deliberately lose as many games as possible for years at a time, how can you acquire a truly indispensable superstar like Ben Simmons?) Still, it’s hard to top intentionally going 1-31, passing on DeShaun Watson to take an F- prospect in the second round, drafting a solid if not transcendent QB #1 overall, trade the solid QB for a 5th round pick, and then invest an enormous amount of trade and salary capital in the QB you passed on after he had proven to be a serial sexual harasser because of some numbers inflated by a lot of garbage-time stat padding on a 4-12 team. Amazing stuff. Admittedly, it’s not entirely on DePodesta — Haslam was obviously a major factor in the world historically catastrophic Watson trade — but a share of responsibility is enough to damn him in any court. Perhaps he will be better back in his native sport, and it would be hard for the Rockies to get worse. On the other hand, I would have said that about the Browns. Also, check out the Midseason Report pod. The post NFL Open Thread appeared first on Lawyers, Guns & Money.
Catholic leaders are speaking out against immigration enforcement in President Donald Trump’s second term. One Chicago priest’s protest strategy? Walking from Pope Leo’s childhood home in Illinois, through Pennsylvania, on his way to Ellis Island in New York. A resolution approved by the state House designates this week as "Pennsylvania Education for Youth Experiencing Homelessness Week." State Rep. Ismail Smith Wade-El of Lancaster County is a co-sponsor of the resolution. Also in Harrisburg, state lawmakers are investing in childcare. This year’s state budget includes a $25 million fund for childcare workers. There's positive news in Pennsylvania's latest education assessments. The scores show improvements in math proficiency and graduation rates. A new White House initiative is aimed at reshaping how young people transition out of foster care. Pennsylvania experts share their reactions. A new study finds higher rates of skin cancer across central Pennsylvania's "farm belt" including Dauphin, Cumberland and York counties. Internal probes uncovered errors in chemo treatment and toxic leadership by Penn State's cancer chief. That's according to reporting - bringing those probes to light - by our partners at Spotlight PA. Pennsylvania and its county and local governments are on track to spend nearly all of the $13 billion received in federal pandemic relief funding by the end of 2026. One sunny evening in the summer of 2020, Kirk and Trevor had a meeting on Kirk's driveway. Even though all indoor meetings were taboo, they met someone bursting with excitement. This is the story of a feline - called "Clovis" by humans - who desperately tries to warn his familiars of a deadly enemy in their midst. And when they fail to take appropriate action, he himself fights the battle they are reluctant to undertake.

Why is there an evil bear?! In this episode of Holodeck Divas, we go from the highest of highs to whatever this episode is. We discuss the Star Trek - The Next Generation episode "The Dauphin" (s2e10). The Enterprise must escort a girl and her bodyguard to a different planet so she can become a leader of her people and end of civil war, but instead of exploring any of those concepts we decide to make this a story about Wesley Crusher's first love. WHAT?! There are some good moments that the divas talk about. Listen to what they have to say!
It's a beautiful late summer day. Let's do something different.Kirk and Trevor take a stroll around their hometown of Dauphin, Manitoba. They talk cannabis, Kirk's European travel plans and greet people on the street. Our co-hosts duck into a local cannabis shop, Payson's Joint. They record stories from staff and customers. Unrehearsed, person-on-the-street stories are the best! They always go in directions you didn't expect. Pennsylvania is in its third month without a state budget, pausing payments for schools, counties and various human services. Democrats and Republicans are insisting they’re close to an agreement. Partisan interests continue to shape this November's fight over whether to retain three Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices. Dozens of schools in Pennsylvania are planning to build solar panels on their roofs. And they’re hoping to use federal tax credits to cut their costs. These tax credits are ending early — but many schools seem to be sticking with their original plans. A new study shows schools in Dauphin and Cumberland Counties could save more than $26 million by going solar. The nonprofit PennEnvironment Research and Policy Center's study demonstrates how solar energy could reverse many school districts' energy-inefficient buildings. Dauphin County Commissioners defeated a resolution Wednesday that would have restricted the county's assistance with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). And a deeper dive: NPR’s Scott Detrow, host of All Things Considered, reflects on his time working for WITF and the importance of the NPR network and member station relationship especially after the rescission of federal funding. Did you know that if every sustaining circle member gives as little as $12 more a month, we'd close the gap caused by federal funding cuts? Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is pushing back on President Donald Trump’s most recent pledge to limit mail-in voting. Governor Shapiro says Pennsylvania’s system for approving unemployment benefits has improved dramatically. Also, Governor Shapiro says House and Senate leaders need to “find common ground” on the state budget, which is now more than 7 weeks late. Pennsylvania health insurers are proposing higher premiums for coverage in 2026. It means people who buy plans through Pennie - the state’s Affordable Care Act marketplace - could end up paying more each month to stay insured. The chair of Dauphin County's Prison Board is stepping down. A Lancaster County man is pleading guilty to more than 200 thefts and burglaries in Dauphin and Lancaster Counties. In 1428, a young girl from the village of Domrémy, France, audaciously set out to meet the heir apparent to the French throne, the Dauphin, and told him what he had to do to defeat the English occupying her country. She claimed that she was told what to do by God. Against all odds, the Dauphin took her advice, and it worked. After a series of military victories, the Dauphin was crowned king, and the young girl went on to become one of the greatest heroes in French history. “I feel guilty to charge [money] for what I love to do…one woman said, ‘They should pay you because it's your gift, you shouldn't feel guilty about it.'”Few stories capture the grit and transformation behind a speaking business like Stephanie Dauphin's journey. This week, Grant Baldwin chats with Stephanie on The Speaker Lab podcast about investing over a decade in her craft—often speaking for free, wrangling self-doubt, and struggling with the idea that meaningful, joyful work can (and should) be well-paid.Her turning point wasn't just learning how to market herself or build a keynote. It was doing the mindset work: identifying and letting go of limiting beliefs around money, motherhood, and self-worth, many rooted in her upbringing. Stephanie is honest about the messy process, the fear of charging what you're worth, and the inner resistance that can sabotage your best opportunities. What shines through is her hard-earned wisdom: fulfillment comes from embracing your gifts, serving others, and having the courage to genuinely value yourself. Stephanie's story is proof that your passion deserves to be your profession—and that the most important shift is believing you're worth every bit of it. If you're doubting what's possible, let Stephanie's journey remind you that building your dream starts with betting on yourself, even when the path forward is unclear. You'll learn:How authority can be a speaker's assetThe challenges of remote work and its effect on workplace relationshipsIssues around charging for speaking engagementsStrategies for overcoming mindset obstaclesStephanie's experience with The Speaker LabAbout building a mailing list and using content to generate referralsThe importance of designing a speaking career around family needsStep for self-developmentAnd much, much more!“More and more people are working remotely, and it has a big effect on team cohesion.”Episode ResourcesStephanie's WebsiteGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Join Lionel Birnie, Graham Willgoss, Rob Hatch and François Thomazeau for the first part of The Cycling Podcast's bumper Tour de France preview. This episode focuses on the first half of the 112th Tour, which will take the riders from Lille in the north east, across to Normandy and Brittany before cutting down through the heart of France to the Massif Central. The head-to-head battle between Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard is currently tied at 2-2, with the Slovenian winning in 2021 and 2024 and the Dane taking back-to-back victories in 2022 and 2023. But, as closely-matched as they often seem, none of those four clashes has been particularly close and, as we saw at the Dauphiné last month, Pogačar seems to have the upper hand at the moment. So, will we see a battle royale between the Three Tenors – © Rob Hatch – with Remco Evenepoel one of the riders most suited to a punchy, scrappy opening week, especially with a time trial to contend with? François breaks down the route and explains what we have to look forward to before the first rest day after ten stages. Part two of The XL Tour de France Preview will be online soon... INTRODUCING VAN RYSEL, OUR TOUR DE FRANCE SPONSORS We are very pleased to welcome Van Rysel as our sponsors for the first half of our Tour de France coverage. The Tour gets underway in Lille, the city where the company was founded and has its headquarters. The city is steeped in French cycling history and heritage, not least because the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix are on the doorstep. Van Rysel supplies bikes and kit for the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale World Tour team, who feature Felix Gall, Bruno Armirail and Aurélien Paret-Peintre in their line-up for the Tour. If you are going to Lille for the opening weekend make sure to drop in at Van Rysel House, a pop-up venue and hub for cycling fans. It's located at Hein Estaminet in Place Saint-Hubert a short walk from the Euralille train station. It's a place to have a drink or something to eat and watch the race on TV and there'll be lots going on over the weekend with a quiz night to test your cycling knowledge each night at 8pm. There's also some group rides setting out from there. A chance to see the Van Reesel bikes and the innovation that goes into their design. Visit www.vanryselcycling.com to find out more. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP You can also watch this episode over on my YouTube channel here! We're coming to the end of June, and in the world of cycling, that can only mean one thing…it's almost time for the Tour! It's all been leading up to this - the biggest bike race of the year. I've got my old mates Tom Southam and Luke Durbridge back on The Race Communique to help me preview this massive race and, oh boy, it's set to be an absolute banger. Durbo kicks off this month with PeloChat, where he takes us through his TrainingPeaks data from the Tour de Suisse so we can see just how hard the racing is these days. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I am so glad I retired when I did; oh my god, the racing is just so brutal in 2025! Some of these numbers are crazy! And hey, Durbs, we all saw you splitting the bunch up with 70k to go on stage 1, so don't you start complaining about how tough it is out there these days… Before the Tour de Suisse, of course, we had the mini Tour de France - the Critérium du Dauphiné. This is where we saw ‘The Big Three' go toe to toe (to toe) with each other. Remco, Jonas, and - of course - Pogi. It was an amazing race, and Tadej came out looking absolutely dominant, but there was a pretty big question mark over his form after a quite frankly pathetic 4th place after the time trial. We know Jonas is still on the comeback trail from his crash back in Paris Nice, so with another few weeks of solid recovery, I think we're in for an absolutely massive battle this July. After we discussed the warm-up races, we got stuck into our massive Tour de France preview. We discuss everything - the stages, the riders, the moments that are going to define this year's race. An absolutely chaotic looking first 10 days around Northern France with tonnes of opportunity for an aggressive rider to take shed loads of time, an absolutely brutal end to the race in the mountains (stage 18 - holy sh*t!), a new finish circuit around Paris to make sure there's excitement all the way to the line, and heaps more! You're not going to want to miss a single second of this race. We all pick a rider or two to discuss, so make sure you tune in if you want to hear what Southam thinks of Carapaz and what really went down on that infamous Colle Delle Finestere stage at the Giro! Durbo lifts the lid on how Aussie favourite and recent guest on Life In The Peloton is going to take on the GC in a bid for a top 5 finish. Next, we get into talking some tactics with Tom. This month's theme is simple: wind. Southam breaks down how teams can use echelons to break up the race and try and catch the big favourites off guard. As always, we wrap up with the Communiquiz. Durbo's leading the way this time with 7 quickfire questions about the Tour de France. Guys, I hope this ep gets you as excited for the Tour as I am. Crack open a weak French beer, have a nibble on a baguette, sit back, relax, and enjoy! Cheers, Mitch The Race Communiqué is brought to you by TrainingPeaks! Join Lionel Birnie and Graham Willgoss as they review the Critérium du Dauphiné and ask whether it was a full dress rehearsal for the Tour de France. Get ready to check-in for another block of pre-Tour preparation at The Cycling Podcast's ‘Attitude Camp'. With Eddy Merckx about to celebrate his 80th birthday, Tadej Pogačar equalled The GOAT's tally of Dauphiné victories (one) and reminded everyone, including Jonas Vingegaard, he remains the number one favourite for next month's Tour de France. But what else did we learn from the Dauphiné? Brian Nygaard is on hand to remind us that although it wasn't a winning week for Vingegaard, the Dane and his Visma-Lease A Bike team need not press the panic button just yet. We ask Rod Ellingworth of Bahrain Victorious about Lenny Martinez's stage victory on the final day, as the long wait for a French Tour champion approaches 40 years. And we make a quick visit to Coorevits Corner to find out what Hugo made of Remco Evenepoel's Dauphiné. Lionel Birnie and Graham Willgoss kick-off The Cycling Podcast's build-up to the Tour de France, which starts in Lille on July 5. The Critérium du Dauphiné began in spectacular style with fireworks at the end of the opening stage on Sunday. The three riders who finished on the podium at last year's Tour de France – Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel – lined up alongside each other for the first time since last July. And they all came alive on the final climb of the race, breaking clear with Mathieu van der Poel and Santiago Buitrago, to hold off the sprinters in Montluçon. It was a statement of intent from the three leading contenders for this summer's Tour as they begin their final preparations for the grand départ.
