Get Up and Go Home by Frank Julian
This episode of Kliq This captures Kevin Nash and Sean Oliver at their most unfiltered, tackling the kind of conversations that only happen when the microphones stay on and nothing is off limits. From the jump, the show leans into uncomfortable territory, blending cultural commentary, wrestling philosophy, and blunt honesty in a way few podcasts even attempt. The discussion around Mick Foley, WWE, and personal lines in the sand becomes one of the most thoughtful exchanges the show has ever had. Nash explains where loyalty, history, and personal relationships collide with modern politics, and why walking away is not always as simple as it sounds. It is not a debate for soundbites. It is a real look at how veterans of the business process the world they helped build. On the wrestling side, Nash gives a deep, critical breakdown of John Cena's final moments, why the finish mattered, and why the reaction to it misses the point. This is not nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. It is a masterclass in understanding character, legacy, and what "going home" actually means when a career ends the right way. The episode also dives into what comes next for WWE without Cena, how Gunther was positioned, what did and did not work, and why true heat is harder to manufacture now than ever before. Nash does not fantasy book for clicks. He explains what he would have changed and why those details matter long term. As always, the show rounds out with sharp listener questions, off-the-rails humor, and the kind of stories only Kevin Nash can tell. This is Kliq This doing what it does best. Thoughtful, confrontational, funny, and unapologetically real. https://teachhoops.com/ Tournament time is a different beast than the regular season. The "marathon" mentality of development shifts immediately to the "sprint" mentality of survival. In this episode, we discuss the critical adjustments a coach must make when the stakes are raised and every possession matters. We explore the delicate balance of keeping players' legs fresh while maintaining their competitive edge, discussing why practices need to become shorter, sharper, and more mentally focused rather than physically draining. We dive into the strategic shifts required for tournament play, particularly the art of the "quick turnaround." When you have to play back-to-back nights or prepare for an opponent with only 24 hours' notice, your scouting and game-planning process has to be streamlined. We discuss how to simplify your game plan so you don't paralyze your players with too much information, focusing instead on the two or three non-negotiables that will win the game. We also touch on the difficult decisions regarding rotations and whether it is time to shorten the bench to secure a win. Finally, we tackle the psychological aspect of the post-season. The pressure to "win or go home" can cause teams to play tight and coaches to over-manage. We share strategies for keeping your team loose and confident, ensuring they run to the pressure rather than shrinking from it. Whether you are prepping for a holiday tournament or the state playoffs, this episode provides the roadmap for navigating the chaos and maximizing your team's potential when it counts the most. Here are thoughts on how to avoid the dull in our plot and how to create a story that keeps readers turning the pages. Also, how to invent strong metaphors and similes. BT & Sal are demanding that the Yankees finally go on a "big offseason" spending spree and become aggressive in their pursuit of a championship. They debate the necessity of re-signing Cody Bellinger (arguing that losing him makes the team worse) and whether the team has the "appetite" for a massive, multi-year contract for a star like Alex Bregman (predicted to cost about $173M). The hosts also slam the organization for its glut of positional players (DHs, limited defenders) and insist that to make room for necessary additions, Cashman "has to trade" at least one young, high-potential player like Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones. They conclude that with the clocks ticking on Judge and Cole, the Yankees can no longer afford to be held back by smaller contracts or cheap team-building strategies.
Today some real meat and potatoes Italian opera. Oh, wait, perhaps we should call it spaghetti alla bolognese rather than meat and potatoes. So often on the podcast I bring singers to the fore that are not as well known as some of the biggest stars in opera. But today I bring you both Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni, two of the most popular and celebrated Italian opera stars in the history of opera, especially opera in the late twentieth century. As many already know, the two singers both grew up in Modena, where their working-class mothers worked in the same cigar factory; as budding opera singers, they subsequently studied voice with the same teacher in Mantova. They remained lifelong friends and often sang together, especially in La Bohème. In 1980, the two returned to their native Modena where they performed together at the Teatro Comunale di Modena, known since 2021 as the Teatro Comunale Pavarotti-Freni. The concert was conducted by Freni's ex-husband Leone Magiera, also a native of Modena. In this concert, they performed duets from their shared repertoire: Elisir d'amore, Traviata, and L'amico Fritz. They also performed solo arias from La figlia del reggimento and Vespri siciliani (Freni) and Werther and L'africana (Pavarotti). The material is supplemented on today's episode with arias from both singers in contemporaneous live performances at the Arena di Verona. And this entire songfest is topped with the cherry of a live 1965 concert on French television of “O soave fanciulla” in which their joined voices are heard in the first flush of youth. Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and author yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. By clicking on the following link (https://linktr.ee/CountermelodyPodcast) you can find the dedicated Countermelody website which contains additional content including artist photos and episode setlists.
