What role did women actually play in England's early colonial experiments? In this Tudorcon 2025 talk, Colleen Parker explores the overlooked but essential role of women in early English colonization, beginning in Ireland and continuing through Roanoke and Jamestown. Rather than treating women as background figures, this talk shows how they functioned as household managers, negotiators, landholders, cultural intermediaries, and, in many cases, the key to whether a colony survived at all. Topics include: • Women in the Irish plantations as a testing ground for colonization • The role of women in Roanoke and the mystery of Virginia Dare • The Jamestown Brides and why “mail-order brides” is a misleading label • Women as property holders and legal actors in early Virginia • Daily survival, childbirth, labor, and negotiation with Native communities This is a rich, thoughtful look at how women shaped colonization on both sides of the Atlantic.

#363: In this episode, I'm revisiting one of the most shared conversations on the show because it explains something so many people feel but can't quite name: emotional outsourcing. Emotional outsourcing forms in early relationships, gets reinforced by family systems and culture, and persists even when you intellectually understand it. This pattern lives in the body, not just the mind, which is why insight alone doesn't create change. Listen in this week as I share a compassionate path toward healing emotional outsourcing by rebuilding safety within your nervous system. You'll learn how emotional outsourcing shows up somatically, how it disconnects you from your own needs and desires, and the real costs it takes on your health, relationships, and sense of self. Most importantly, this is about coming home to yourself gently, reclaiming agency, and learning to trust your internal guidance again without shame, force, or rushing. Busayo is a graduate of the Anchored program, and in this deeply inspiring conversation, she shares her journey from emotional overwhelm, perfectionism, and constant overfunctioning... to self-trust, nervous system safety, and true inner freedom. We talk about what it means to stop living on autopilot and start showing up for yourself in real time. Not as a performance, but as an act of radical self-love. Busayo opens up about breaking the cycle of always putting others first, learning to regulate through life's hardest moments, and how she's now modeling emotional resilience and self-trust for her young daughter. Together, we explore healing from functional freeze, the power of being seen in community, and the deep transformation that happens when we stop masking and start investing in ourselves. Not out of emergency, but out of devotion. If you've ever wondered whether it's really possible to shift lifelong habits of people-pleasing or perfectionism, let this episode be your evidence that it is. How can we find hope through trials? Gina Fox, founder of the Anchored by the Sword ministry and award-winning author of Anchored in Freedom, relates from her deeply personal journey through infertility, loss, and mental health struggles, and opens up about how she discovered hope even in her darkest moments. Together, host Tina Yeager and Gina Fox explore the power of faith, authentic support, and the importance of not comparing one person's pain to another. Whether you're in the midst of your own trial or supporting someone who is, this episode is filled with practical wisdom and heartfelt encouragement to help you find light in the darkest valleys. Stay tuned as we uncover how God can turn even the most painful seasons into stories of hope and freedom. Key Takeaways: Embracing Real Emotions: Gina Fox openly shares how anger and sadness were part of her healing—and why it's important to acknowledge those feelings without shame. Even Jesus felt anger, and it's okay for us to process our emotions, too. Seeking Support: Don't go it alone. Whether through friends, community, or a counselor, inviting trusted people in makes a difference. Gina encourages everyone to reach out to at least one "safe person." Finding God's Hope: No matter your trial, God meets you uniquely in your story. Gina reminds us that each journey is different—there's no need to compare your struggles with someone else's, but do bring God into every step and ask Him to provide hope and help. Simple Steps When Life Feels Dark: Just take the next step, even if it's as small as getting out of bed. The Psalms are a great place to start in the Bible. Let your community and God walk with you, especially when things feel overwhelming. You Are Not Alone: Above all, Gina wants you to know that there is always hope, even in the darkest moments. "God's got this, and He's got you." Want More? Grab Gina's book, Anchored in Freedom, on Amazon or get the first chapter FREE when you join her email list at anchoredbythesword.org. Turn Away From Sin, Follow Jesus, Go Fishing | 3rd Sunday in OT | Jan 25, 2026

Anchored In The Lord

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 27, 2026 7:17

Turn Away From Sin, Follow Jesus, Go Fishing In this episode of Anchored in the Lord, we reflect on the Gospel for the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time (January 25, 2026) and Jesus' first public words of ministry: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." These words reveal that the Christian life is not static or one-dimensional, but a movement—a journey with direction, purpose, and mission. The homily highlights three essential movements of the Christian life, all present in today's Gospel. The first is repentance. To repent does not simply mean to feel bad or avoid wrongdoing; it literally means to turn around, to change direction, and to let go of whatever draws our hearts away from God. Repentance is where the life of faith begins—but it is not where it ends. If we only turn away from sin, we risk standing still, facing nothing in particular. That leads to the second movement: following Jesus. Christ does not merely say, "Stop sinning." He says, "Follow me." He invites us into a new way of living—the life of the Kingdom of Heaven. This invitation is often subtle, appearing in daily nudges: a thought to reach out to someone, an impulse to act with generosity, or a quiet call to trust God more deeply. Yet, as the homily acknowledges honestly, we often hesitate. We delay. We tell ourselves we'll respond later—after more prayer, more preparation, or when life feels less busy. In contrast, the disciples in today's Gospel respond immediately. But the Gospel doesn't stop there. The third movement completes the Christian life: mission. Jesus calls His followers not only to turn away from sin and to follow Him personally, but to "go fishing"—to draw others into the life of faith. Discipleship is never meant to be private or self-contained. A faith that does not become mission remains incomplete. This episode invites listeners to examine where they may be stuck—repenting without following, following without sharing—and to hear again Christ's call to live the Gospel fully: turn back to God, walk closely with Jesus, and bring others along.

What happens when you invite God to search places in your heart you've learned to manage, ignore, or hide? In this devotional episode of Eat Don't Compete, I want to invite you to sit with Psalm 139:23–24—a prayer that became weighty yet grace-filled for me as I allowed God to thoroughly search my heart and lead me in His everlasting way. As we read this passage across multiple Bible translations, I share why asking God to search us can be both powerful and uncomfortable. Through personal reflection, I talk about spiritual growth, the danger of becoming casual with God, and how hidden heart issues—like offense, anxiety, and misplaced comfort—can quietly shape our walk with Him. This episode is an invitation for you to slow down, sit with Scripture, and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal what God wants to correct, heal, and sanctify—not just through you, but in you. If you're longing for deeper spiritual maturity, heart transformation, and honest prayer, my prayer is that this episode encourages you to let God do the internal work that leads to lasting change. If this episode resonated with you: ✨ Subscribe to Eat Don't Compete ✨ Share this episode with someone who's navigating spiritual growth ✨ Leave a review to help others find this conversation And take time this week to meditate on Psalm 139:23–24—slowly, prayerfully, and honestly.

At our Holy Communion Service themed Communion for God's Sufficiency, Pastor Femi Paul delivered a timely and liberating word titled Do Not Dwell on the Past. We were reminded that God's redemptive plan is not to keep His people trapped in yesterday's losses, but to move them forward into divine restoration. Anchored on Isaiah 43, the message was clear that God is doing a new thing and opening premium doors of opportunity that will more than compensate for whatever was lost, damaged, broken, or destroyed. Communion became a moment of reassurance that God's sufficiency covers our past, present, and future. The teaching emphasised that while the past may contain lost, missed, wasted, or squandered opportunities, it must never be used as a measure for what God is arranging in 2026. Premium opportunities are game changer moments designed to rewrite stories and shift outcomes in the most important areas of our lives. The instruction was simple but powerful: learn from the past, release it, and move forward in faith. This year, God is calling His people to stop looking back and to step boldly into the greater doors He has prepared. Confession: Father, I release my past into Your hands. I receive premium opportunities in 2026 that restore, renew, and reposition my life. I move forward in faith, confident that You are doing a new thing, in Jesus name. Amen.

Thursday January 22, 2026II Week After EpiphanyToday's readings draw our attention to where true security and fulfillment are found. In Genesis 11:1–9, humanity's attempt to build greatness apart from God reveals the danger of pride and self-reliance, reminding us that unity without submission to Him always leads to confusion. Hebrews 6:13–20 points us to a far better foundation—God's unchanging promise—offering a *sure and steadfast anchor for the soul* grounded in His faithfulness. And in John 4:1–15, Jesus meets a weary woman with an even deeper promise: living water that truly satisfies the thirst of the human heart. This episode invites us to stop striving for security on our own and instead anchor our hope in God's promises, drinking deeply from the life only Christ can give.

Life can feel like a storm, can't it? The Bible, God's book of truth, promises this, “...we who have fled to him [that means Jesus] for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.” At the cross, Jesus secured our forgiveness; when He was raised to life, He offered us unending life. And this is His promise: if you're anchored to Him, you will not be alone in life's storms. Do you want to take hold of God and allow Him to anchor you? Start now by praying with me: “Jesus, be my anchor. Thank You for offering me life through Your death on the cross. I choose to fasten my hope to You. Hold me steady, teach me Your ways, and help me to know You. Amen.” Always remember, there is hope with God. Scripture Reference: Hebrews 6:18-19 radio.hopewithgod.com

Tenderoni Hotline #16: Hello my love, and welcome back to the Tenderoni Hotline, our soft and spacious corner of the Feminist Wellness Podcast where we explore your most tender questions about healing, nervous system care, and returning home to yourself. In today's episode, we're exploring questions that sit at the heart of healing work, especially for those of us socialized to over-function, people-please, and emotionally outsource our sense of worth.First: Why does healing emotional outsourcing matter when the world feels like it's falling apart? We'll unpack how constantly looking outside ourselves for safety, belonging, and validation isn't just personally draining. It actually fuels the very systems of oppression we're trying to survive. You'll learn how reclaiming your self-trust isn't selfish. It is a radical, nervous-system-based intervention that creates space for grounded action and collective care.We also dive into: How do I actually make space for rest when I'm already exhausted, overwhelmed, and in survival mode? Together, we'll explore why rest isn't just about stopping. It's about shifting the internal conditions that keep us bracing, proving, and pushing. You'll hear why “just rest” advice rarely works for nervous systems that don't feel safe, and what to do instead. You'll walk away with a clearer understanding of how emotional outsourcing keeps us stuck, why rest is both sacred and necessary, and what small, doable steps you can take to come back to yourself with compassion and care. So go ahead and grab your softest blanket, pour something warm and grounding, and settle in. I'm so glad you're here.Got a question for the Tenderoni Hotline? Elevation | Song of Fulfilment

Alan continues our series called Elevation with a bold reminder that true promotion is never self-made — it is God-ordained. Anchored in Psalm 75, this message declares that exaltation does not come from the east or the west, from striving or systems, but from the Lord alone: "He puts down one and exalts another." When the Judge releases His verdict, no resistance can overturn what heaven has decided. Returning to Hannah's story in 1 Samuel, Alan reveals what happens when prayer finally meets provision — when petition becomes possession and the long night of intercession gives way to the song of fulfillment. Hannah's breakthrough wasn't only receiving the promise, but becoming free from shame and scarcity as she surrendered what she had waited for, trusting the God of abundance. Through Hannah's prophetic song, we see the signature of divine elevation: God reverses the plans of the enemy, strengthens the weak, and lifts the needy from the ash heap to be seated with princes. This message confronts a mindset that is comfortable with deliverance but hesitant about inheritance, reminding us that resurrection is meant to carry the greatest weight in the life of faith. If you've walked through pressure, loss, or seasons of crushing, this is a prophetic invitation to rise. Your seat is shifting. Your shame is breaking. And God is restoring you into honor — in due time.

#361: Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “I don't have any real trauma, so why do I still struggle with people-pleasing?” Many people hear about emotional outsourcing and immediately disqualify themselves from the conversation because they didn't have what they consider a "bad enough" childhood. In this episode, I want to speak directly to those folks who recognize codependent, perfectionist, and people-pleasing behaviors in themselves but struggle to claim this truth because there was no obvious trauma, no catastrophe, no singular story that explains it all. Join me this week to learn why you don't need to have experienced trauma to have codependent, perfectionist, or people-pleasing habits, and why cognitive insight alone rarely resolves these patterns. If you're tired of feeling like your struggles aren't "valid enough" for help, this episode is your permission slip.
