The sermon was delivered on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Affiliate Minister. SERMON DESCRIPTION As I reflect on the nexus of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, the not guilty verdict of Officer Betty Shelby and Memorial Day, I question how anger fuels a painful heart. I intend to explore the consequences of unexamined pain. Our participation in this long journey toward justice depends on our willingness to examine our painful parts. You can't dismantle the master's house using his tools. Keith Scott, a black man with traumatic brain injury, was shot dead immediately after getting out of his car at the command of the officers. Initially, the Charlotte PD refused to release the dash cam video, prompting widespread speculation of a coverup. Late last week, the video became available to the public. It's bad. William Bowers, a white homeless man in Castaic, CA, was shot dead by police after getting off his bicycle at the officers' command. Black Lives Matter protestors rallied for Bowers, demanding answers from the police. Where is the "All Lives Matter" crowd? They are suspiciously absent. Officer Betty Shelby was charged with 1st degree manslaughter last week in the shooting death of Terence Crutcher, a stranded motorist in Tulsa, OK. Officer Shelby spent less than 15 minutes in jail before her bail was paid by the police union. Lorie Smith, a Denver, CO woman, has filed a federal lawsuit challenging a Colorado law which she says violates her constitutional rights. Smith, a self-described Christian, owns a graphic arts design company, claims that the law that says she may not refuse people services based on their sexual orientation is unconstitutional. The largest prison strike in history is being ignored by the mainstream media. Tues, Sept 27, 6pm Pacific
