They want their religion to endorse their ego, their identity.” Her words reveal how easily the sacred fire of conscience can be co-opted by institutions. What begins as moral clarity can harden into moral pride. The impulse to defend Truth turns into the desire to be seen as its defender.Neuropsychologist Mario Martinez offers a biological parallel to this spiritual insight. He notes that righteous anger — the kind born from compassion and dignity — strengthens the immune system and enlivens the body. It activates the nervous system briefly and cleanly, as though sharpening the moral blade without rusting the psyche. Self-righteous anger, however, corrodes from within. Canadians are really upset at President Trump…maybe because of escalating trade tensions or his “Canada should become the 51st state” rhetoric. But either way, with the new Prime Minister of Canada winning his recent election utilizing an "elbows up" slogan, which is a defensive hockey term signaling you're ready to protect and fight back…it most likely didn't help temper emotions. Regardless, it has ignited a new wave of Canadian patriotism…with consumers consciously choosing made-in-Canada products as an act of economic self-preservation and national pride. In fact, 71 percent of Canadians stated they will be buying fewer US-produced grocery items this year…with nearly one-quarter planning to make this purchasing behavior permanent. Additionally, 56 percent of Canadians expressed they'd stop buying a certain product altogether if there wasn't a Canadian-made alternative. So, while “buy local” movements usually prove transitory after economic tensions subside, US-based CPG brands shouldn't overlook worst-case scenarios…as this current surge in modified shopping behaviors could have comparatively deeper roots than historical examples.

How do you manage life's disappointments? Hopefully better than I did. In one of my darkest seasons, I resorted to blaming God for my mistakes. I wandered off course and like the prodigal child, I squandered what was my inheritance. Then one day I heard a voice inside me said, "Go home." It was a command to go home to Abba Daddy. I knew that life wasn't supposed to be this way. I felt completely hopeless. Angry. Disappointed. I truly believed God had abandoned my prayers.This was a tough pill to swallow, because I used to be Miss positivity, and I had a crystal-clear vision for my future—and pie-in-the-sky dreams and bold faith to believe that they would all come true. But fast forward nearly a decade later… and nothing looked the way I thought it would.The fire fizzled. The hope faded. The faith? Well, I felt like I was just going through the motions.I would complete my daily "spiritual checklist." And without clarity and faith to believe, I wandered off course. I tried so many different things—side hustle and  business ideas—thinking, “This is it! This will be the one!”But deep down… nothing fit.It felt like David trying to wear Saul's armor to fight Goliath—uncomfortable, heavy, and completely wrong for the battle I was meant to fight.I tried network marketing—2 different companies. Affiliate marketing—2 different companies. I was approved as an Amazon influencer. I invested in and shared digital marketing. And then, as I mentioned small odds & ends jobs and even drove DoorDash. Ms. Shine with Frannie was now delivering tacos instead of testimonies.To say I was humbled is an understatement. I couldn't help but think, “Lord, where are you?! How did I end up here? This is not who You called me to be!”But here's the good news: God never left my side. In that dark and disappointing season, He spoke to me so gently:“I know you're hurting and it feels like I've left you… but remember, no one shouts when they're standing right next to you.” Sis, that Truth changed everything.And I pray it is a word in season for you, too.I realized God was faithful and just like His word said, "He would never leave me nor forsake me." He was closer than ever—quietly guiding me, refining me, and reminding me who I really am.Through that process, I didn't just find direction—I found my identity.And now, I'm on a mission to help others do the same.God wants to take all of your unique gifts, talents, and life experiences and partner with you to fulfill your purpose, calling, and assignment.Here's what I've learned: Your purpose is why you were created. Your calling is the unique way you fulfill that purpose. Your assignment is how you're walking that out in this season. A listener had a question... and it isn't the first time I've heard it.  How DO you save your marriage when you feel hate for your spouse?  That does seem impossible to get beyond, doesn't it? I have some news for you:  many people (if not MOST) who are working on saving their marriage are NOT having warm and fuzzy feelings for their spouse. In fact, they are likely to be just as hurt, just as frustrated, and just as unsure as their spouse. But there is a difference:  They think that working on their marriage... even when feeling upset and hurt, is important.  Important enough to choose to act in spite of those feelings. You may be thinking, "Wait, I can't act differently than I am feeling!" But with just a little reflection, most people realize they do it every single day.  "Not feeling it," but still going to work.  Upset about your finances, but still paying the bills.  Angry about something, but not taking it out on someone. See what I mean? We all do that all the time.  Why?  Because something is important enough to not just react to our emotions.
