Research has shown that many teenagers will leave the faith after high school because they felt like the religion their parents offered was too black and white. Essentially, there was no room to ask hard questions. In today's interview we tackle the hard question of "Is the God of the Old Testament angry, sexist, and racist"? Along with other questions your kids will likely one day ask. Join host Jerrad Lopes as he sits down with author and professor David Lamb to dive into this topic.

Listening to this podcast for 7 minutes will probably make you angry. I'm angry that the Lord lowers the bar of murder all the way down to anger. Specifically MY ANGER. But I LIKE being angry sometimes. I LIKE calling people names. I LIKE wreaking havoc with my mouth every now and then. I have always been like this. I don't want to change. Here is something you won't like: We are LIABLE for our anger, verbal abuse and name calling. That is, someday we will be rightly accused about it, and an answer will be required. You will not have an answer for that requirement. Then judgement will ensue and we'll have nothing to say about it. Or...We can use our power now. We can ask for help. We can acknowledge our tongue. We can change. We can deliver a soft answer. We can respond gently. We can hold back the single harsh word, and the 1000 harsh words that follow it. We are probably going to need some help.

We talk about putting language to uncomfortable encounters, “I see what you did there” moments that are streamlined and brilliant, and why you don't need (and probably shouldn't have) a strict schedule for yourself as a writer. We also discuss vibrant settings, happy accidents, and how Amanda became an entrepreneur. Amanda Jayatissa grew up in Sri Lanka, completed her undergrad at Mills College, CA, and lived in the UK before moving back to her sunny little island. She works as a corporate trainer, owns a chain of cookie stores, and is a proud dog-mum to her two, spoiled huskies. Amanda is represented by Melissa Danaczko from Stuart Krichevsky Literary Agency, Inc.
ENTERTAINING SHORT FILMS is a new category on the RPA Network, which features indie short films for your enjoyment! We applaud these creators! Cohen the Barbarian was angry. Angry that he never died in battle, angry that the world had forgotten him, and angry that his knees were starting to play up in the cold. He was also angry that his faithful mount had been gifted the ability of magical speech. The horse was insisting that they had made a wrong turn back at Slice. He was also angry that the horse was probably right. This was not how it was supposed to end for the barbarian. This was not how the Discworld's greatest hero imagined it at all. TROLL BRIDGE is a love-letter to Terry Pratchett and Discworld. It exists because an awful lot of people thought it ought to. We have all experienced being angry. Angry at ourselves, angry with other people, or angry at a situation. Are you good at controlling and expressing your anger in a healthy way? Anger is an emotion that needs to be expressed in a collected and careful way. Know this - getting angry does not mean you are a bad person. Nor does it mean you are alone. Anger emotions can make you feel isolated from people. Expressing any type of emotion can be one of the most difficult things in life! Recognizing areas of personal weakness is the first step to being able to grow and mature. If an area for you is the anger emotion, we encourage you to press into strengthening this by focusing on a healthy practice. You're Angry. Mean. Hurt. Frustrated. Tired. Unwell spiritually and emotionally. Vain. Conceited. Prideful. Anxious. Afraid. Jealous. This list is not exhaustive, meaning it could go on and on. Did you know that you can bring EVERY PART of YOURSELF to GOD and HE WON'T LEAVE YOU. HE WON'T RUN AWAY FROM YOU. HE WON'T CONDEMN YOU. HE WILL STILL ACCEPT YOU. AND LOVE YOU. AND CHERISH YOU. When someone reacts with anger you have hit. raw nerve for them. If you don't care you don't get angry. The post EP 2041 If you don't care, why are you so angry?? appeared first on The Strong Life Project.
There's a lot of pissed-off-ness going on in the world right now. The storm is raging inside many people's hearts. But anger gets a bad rep. Sometimes life doesn't go the way we thought it would and we get upset when that happens. Sometimes, unjust things happen and we feel outraged at the experience. Sometimes we make choices that we didn't feel were really a choice (even though they were) that cause us to abandon our truth in an attempt to please the "other", and we're left with resentment. When we feel angry and don't have healthy ways of expressing ourselves, we bottle it up and then explode. Anger is a healthy emotion that we get to feel as part of the human experience. It's what we DO with our anger that makes all the difference. You have to feel it to heal it, my friend. (and in this episode, I guide you through an inner child exercise where we release our anger and reframe the stories in our mind). And the best (also slightly annoying) part? We can choose to feel our anger and release it, or we can choose to bottle it up and burn from the inside out. But the choice is ours to make. Tune in for some helpful tools you can use to process your anger and reframe the stories in your mind. And then let me know on social if you resonate! I'd love to know what you want to hear about next on the podcast! My DMs are always open for suggestions! ps - Save, Download + Share this episode if it speaks to you! We've all been there before. When you are so mad at someone you just want to blast double them across the room and then spladle them so hard their legs rip of... Ok, maybe that's just me.... Either way, we all know what it's like to become angry. It is a normal part of the human experience, but as Christians, we are called to avoid sin when we become angry and maintain self-control. That's what this episode is about. Jesus calls us to be kind and compassionate to one another, even forgiving each other, just as He forgave us. That's easy to do with the people we like, but how should we treat the difficult people in our lives? During week four of our series, Pastor Brian uses Paul's writing in the Book of Ephesians to give clear, biblical guidance on how to deal with difficult people.
