Alex DiBranco is Executive Director and Founder at Institute for Research on Male Supremacism. Alex stops by to discuss "Male Supremacist Terrorism as a Rising Threat". According to Dibranco, male supremacism is a right-wing extremist ideology that has contributed to terrorist attacks, primarily in the US, but also in Canada and Europe. Within male supremacist communities, the motivation for terrorist attacks stem predominantly from two core misogynist beliefs: 1) the belief that men are entitled to sexual access to women, and 2) the belief that feminists are a malevolent force controlling society at the expense of men, a frame similar to anti-Semitic conspiracy theories regarding Jewish elites controlling the world. Alex and Brad discuss how secular and religious male supremacisms are cut from the same cloth, the dynamics of superiority and humiliation in male supremacist terrorism, and the rise of the Proud Boys. Philip Luke Johnson is a Political Science Ph.D. candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center. He is also a lecturer in the undergraduate writing program at Princeton University. His dissertation research is supported by fellowships from the Graduate Center, The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, and the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the University of California, San Diego. He has published articles about his research on the Guantánamo Bay prison in Critical Military Studies and the online magazine Critical Violence at a Glance, with a post titled “What Will It Take to End Indefinite Detention at Guantánamo Bay?” He previously wrote about terrorism and organized crime in Mexico in Perspectives on Terrorism. Johnson discussed his research in Mexico on episode 78 of The Thought Project podcast. This week, Johnson joins The Thought Project to discuss the military tribunal at Guantánamo Bay of five men accused of aiding the 9/11 attacks. The Guantánamo Bay prison was established under controversial terms: The U.S. government declared that the U.S. Constitution did not apply to those being put on trial. Johnson believes that this extralegal history undermines the legitimacy of the tribunals. He argues that the indefinite detention of accused terrorists serves neither the interests of the U.S. government nor the legal concerns of those detained. Listen to this Thought Project conversation about the crimes that took place on 9/11 and their aftermath 20 years later.

An SBS World News investigation has uncovered evidence of multiple anti-Muslim neo-Nazi cells posing as fitness clubs across Australia. The presence of these groups has sparked "grave concern" among Australia's security services. Muslim community leaders who lost friends in the Christchurch attacks say they're concerned Australia could be the next site of a far-right terrorism act targeting Muslims and called for a more concerted condemnation of far-right ideology.

Today, The Two Mikes spoke with Michael Waller, who is the Vice President and the Senior Security Analyst at the Center for Security Studies in Washington, DC. Our talk covered a broad range of topics including Biden's well-orchestrated debacle in Afghanistan, an event that demonstrated that neither the U.S. government -- under either party -- nor U.S. military flag officers have much knowledge about the world or the history that brought the world to its present predicaments. President Biden's "Justice" Department has directed the FBI to investigate parents attending school board meetings to protest mandatory mask mandates and the teaching of Marxist "Critical Race Theory" for possible "domestic terrorism." Is this about protecting school boards...or silencing political opposition? Also today, the debate over "natural immunity" is heating up.
Today, The Two Mikes talked with Ed Yeranian, the always excellent, Cairo-based foreign correspondent. Mr. Yeranian spoke about the impact of Biden's Afghan debacle, saying that while most Middle East governments have not criticized Biden's lethal skedaddle, not all of the regimes are happy about allowing the Taliban full-sway in the country and allowing a strategic airbase to fall into the hands of the Chinese. Episode 189: Starting in 1963 and stretching over the next seven years, a militant French separatist group called the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ) terrorized La Belle Province. Their aim was to overthrow the Quebec government and leave Canada creating an independent Marxist- Leninist Quebec state. By 1970 the group had committed more than 200 violent criminal and terroristic acts including, bombings and high profile kidnappings. The group's activities ultimately claimed the lives of eight people, including a Quebec provincial cabinet minister, and injured many more, before then Prime Minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, finding himself out of options, enacted the 1914 War Measures act to stem the violence of the October Crisis of 1970. A diplomatic standoff ensued. The hostages were held for 444 days from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981. Western media described the crisis as an "entanglement" of "vengeance and mutual incomprehension." U.S. President Jimmy Carter called the hostage-taking an act of "blackmail" and the hostages "victims of terrorism and anarchy". In Iran it was widely seen as an act against the U.S. and its influence in Iran, including its perceived attempts to undermine the Iranian Revolution and its longstanding support of the shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was overthrown in 1979.

"The frame begins to cry - something gets broken in the analytic session. What do we do then? We interpret just based on early material, what we know about the patient, some kind of reconstruction? Or are we facing a piece of reality that cannot be analyzed, just analyzed. It might be acknowledged that you have to face it in some way or other, and this is the similarity with what might happen when the 4th wall is disrupted." Episode Description: We begin with an understanding of the 4th wall as it refers to the actor's stage - the removal from reality, immersion in metaphor, and the illusion of not being witnessed. Isaac describes how this informs his sense of the analytic frame which he sees as a "choreography between the internal and external worlds." We discuss the challenge of engaging patients when the dyad together faces external dangers. These moments provide an opportunity for "connectivity" to be followed by a return to metaphor. We close by discussing his personal journey from Argentina to eventually landing in the United States. We consider the similarities and differences between analysis in Buenos Aires and in New York. Terrorism is the scourge of the era. It is a fearsome symbol conjuring up images of ferocious-looking, bearded men brandishing AK-47s. The media focus on the terrorism of official enemies like Saddam Hussein, bin Laden, and Zarqawi. After they were done away with, new demons appear to justify war and bloat the Pentagon budget. Be afraid of ISIS and Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Be afraid of Yemen and Somalia, Pakistan and Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. Be afraid of all the jihadi groups that have mushroomed all over the Middle East. The notion that the U.S. and its allies engage in terrorism is simply not a topic for discussion. To scrutinize U.S. policy is verboten. The War on Terror goes on and on. Recorded at the University of Colorado.
The South American nation of Peru's former First Vice President, Francisco Tedula, is a formidable man. He was among, and helped rescue, 72 hostages seized by terrorists like those who have now taken his country hostage, thanks to a fraudulent election last June. Mr. Tudela warns of the danger for his people, the region's and ours if such communists succeed in transforming Peru into a Venezuela on steroids: Terrorism will proliferate; deadly drug trafficking will intensify; and perhaps millions of Peruvians will join those coming here illegally. Particularly alarming is the prospect of China's deepening penetration and exploitation of Mr. Tudela's strategic nation, including by basing there aircraft carrier battle groups – precipitating the most serious hemispheric threat since the Cuban missile crisis. As Peru goes, so will likely go Colombia, Chile and Brazil. That would imperil our country, and must be resisted. This is Frank Gaffney.
Panelists: Peter Castagno, Gumby, Joanne Leon, Dan Wright. A panel discussion about the questions that are still unanswered 20 years after 9/11. This is part one of a series. There is an “after hours” bonus segment where we talk about turning this into a series, the fact that dissent from the official 9/11 story is (finally) being discussed more openly and there is strong pressure to make it less taboo, and more. A podcast from the New Yorker floated the idea of getting destructive to fight climate change. President Biden got his Pfizer booster shot live on-air and suggested a shocking vaccination requirement. Gen. Milley testified before Congress regarding Afghanistan and his China phone call, and Pat Gray joins Glenn and Stu to discuss. Joe Rogan is getting heat for a recent video he posted that included references to the Holocaust. Glenn and Stu read through the eight stages of genocide, which hit a little too close to home. Journalist John Stossel joins to discuss his lawsuit against Facebook. A famous Bible story now has possible evidence confirming its validity. The term “Jedi” is now being labeled problematic.
