So grab your Bible, settle in, and let's let the Scripture shape our hearts today. TODAY'S DEVOTION: God's final word is not judgment, but life. Throughout the long story of Israel, we see a heartbreaking pattern—God reaching out in love through the prophets, but the people turning away again and again. The story we heard today, through the tragedy of Hosea and Gomer, is a vivid picture of this unfaithfulness: Israel behaving like a wayward spouse, wandering far from her first love. The consequences are deeply painful—names like “Not Loved” and “Not My People” are spoken over Israel, words that carry the weight of loss and separation from God. But God doesn't leave the story there. His final word to us isn't one of rejection or shame. The book of Hebrews begins by telling us that, though God once spoke through the prophets, now he has spoken to us by his Son. And the words that Christ speaks over us are utterly different. They are words of embrace, words of forgiveness and peace, words that say, “You are my people and you are loved.” Through Jesus, God has made a way for us to come home. Not by our own striving, not by following a set of laws or rituals, but by receiving the gift of his love and belonging poured out through Christ. The words that once named us “outsiders” are replaced by the words of the gospel: “Beloved, you belong.” Wherever the message of Jesus is received, hearts are changed. The reality of belonging, being chosen and loved by God, takes root deep inside, and everything changes. So today, hold fast to these words that Jesus speaks over you. Don't let the old words of judgment or shame take hold. Let the gospel's word—“You are mine, you are loved”—sink in and bring you peace. That is my prayer for my own soul today. That is my prayer for my family—for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that is my prayer for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. In this world that is often filled with scoffers, grumblers, liars, and all sorts of trouble, Jude calls out to us: "May God give you more and more mercy, peace, and love." And the good news is—He does. God offers us what we lack. He is our true and ultimate source of peace, love, and mercy. It's easy to look at the world and become discouraged, to feel overwhelmed by the lies we've been told or the ones we've learned to hold onto ourselves. But God gives us more in Christ. There is an invitation here—not to muster up these things on our own, but to receive from Him: mercy for our failings, peace in the midst of trouble, and love that has been poured out on all humanity—including you. Because of Him, you can pray in the power of His Spirit today. Because of Him, you already have eternal life now, and there will come a day when you stand with Him in glory. In Christ, we find the "more" that our hearts deeply need. Apart from Him, we have nothing, but with Him, we have everything—enough for today and enough for the days to come. People fill their lives with every imaginable thing, feasting on distractions and pleasures that, in the end, leave them empty and hungry. If we make this life about satisfying our earthly appetites, we end up famished, unsatisfied at the very core. Jesus put it this way: People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Christ is that bread of life. Our souls will never truly be satisfied until they are satisfied in him, the Living Word. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. The prophet Isaiah asks, “Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.” God is calling us—listen and eat what is good. Enjoy the finest of food. Stop starving your soul. He has graciously placed a feast before us, a meal we have done nothing to earn and nothing to pay. He simply asks that we come, that we eat. Are you restless? Tired? Hungry? Famished? There's no need to go hungry today. The Living Word is here for you. His Word is gracious toward you. It is the Bread of Life, and it's free of charge. It is Him—his presence, his peace, grace, forgiveness, mercy, and love. At his table, every hunger is satisfied, every thirst is quenched. Come daily to the table and feast on his goodness. Draw strength, draw joy, draw all that you need from him. That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family—for my wife and my daughters and my son. I have three daughters and there have been times in life when people have asked me, Hunter, who's your favorite? And I have to chuckle when I hear that because my mind doesn't even go there. I don't think in terms of one daughter being favored over another because they're all my kids. They're my girls. I love them dearly. I have no favorites. And we're told that God has no favorites. We are all his children. It doesn't matter whether we're Abigail, Magdalene, or Eden Hunter, or Heather, or you, or whoever. It doesn't matter. Whether we are Jew or Gentile, circumcised, uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave or free, it doesn't matter. Christ is all that matters. He is the favored one. And we—our lives—are hidden in his. That's what Paul says. Our real life is hidden with God in Christ, the favored one. He has no favorites because we're all favored. We're all loved. We've been included. God has reconciled the whole world to himself. Paul says he has no favorites because we are all loved by him. And that, my friend, is such good news. And the prayer of my own heart today is that I will see who I am in Christ, favored and loved. And that's a prayer that I have for my family, too—for my daughters, for my wife, and for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Jesus is my shepherd. You have called me by my name into the life of the Beloved. Here in the stillness, I remember that I am not alone. I belong to you and to the great communion of saints and sinners held together in your love. Remind me, Lord, that every breath is grace, every encounter is a chance to give what I have received—mercy without measure. When I forget who I am, when I lose my way, lead me again to still waters. Life brings with it many trials, sufferings, and disappointments, but the good news is that God is not distant from us in those places—he is right here, present, working within us even now. Paul reminds us in Philippians that “we are in this struggle together.” He writes of his own hardships, his imprisonment, and the difficulties that have come his way, not as marks of defeat, but as evidence that God is at work in all things. God is not done with us—he who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. That's the hope we're given: in the very midst of the chaos and trouble, God is shaping us, completing us, and drawing us close to him. Paul's confidence is that God's presence is active, transforming us from the inside out. Christ in us—the hope and the glory—brings change to our character and fills us with the fruit of salvation. It is here, in our ordinary pains and struggles, that God meets us, not just observing from afar, but walking alongside us and within us. This reality fills Paul with joy, and can fill us with the same joy, no matter what we face. So let us open ourselves to this abiding presence. Allow God's Spirit to meet you right where you are. Let his joy be your strength. Remember, even in the midst of it all, you are not alone—God is in you, working all things toward his good purpose. Let that truth produce joy and hope in you, and give thanks that you are loved and never abandoned by the One who is always with you. That's my prayer for myself. Be loved. The strength that you need to resist the enemy's fiery attacks comes from God. It's not from us, after all. The armor that He bequeaths to us—the helmet, the shield, the shoes, the sword, the breastplate—all of it is a gift from a loving God. So put on that loving armor and be strong. Paul tells us to be strong, but listen carefully to his final words: be loved. Peace be with you, dear brothers and sisters, and may God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you love with faithfulness. May God's grace be eternally upon all who love our Lord Jesus Christ. So how are we to be strong? We do that by being loved. By putting on the loving armor of our Lord, and resting in the eternal grace and embrace that is ours in Christ. God's grace has been eternally poured out on us. Yes, put on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of God's righteousness, the shoes of the gospel, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit. These are loving gifts from a loving God, meant to guard us and equip us for whatever battles may come. You can be strong because you have been loved. Know this well, and let its truth sink deep into your heart so that you can draw strength from Him. That's a prayer I have for my own soul, for my family—my wife, my daughters, my son. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Children of light, that is what you are. The light is sweet. How pleasant to see a new day dawning. Ecclesiastes 11:7. And Paul wants us to know the sweet light of a new day that is found in Christ. His favor and kindness is there for us on this new day. And how sweet that is. A new day of hope, a new day of life. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have the light of the Lord. So live as people of the light. From our reading in Ephesians, if you want to taste the sweetness of this light, it's going to take careful determination. Verse 10 says, Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. We must be careful to put away the darkness of our past regrets, shame, resentments, and determine to apply the Gospel light to our heart each day. That light comes from the Lord. So let us come to Jesus each day determining to participate and join in the life that is now ours in him. Through Christ we are able to find strength to vanquish the lies that are told about God, that He is distant and separate from us. No, the light of Christ reveals His presence and his nearness. The light of Christ reveals his embrace. In the light of his loving embrace, we are able to honor and prefer one another. We are able to submit to one another. We are able to lay down our lives for one another. When we do that, it will indeed be a sweet and hopeful day. The wise man of Ecclesiastes said, light is sweet. How pleasant to see a new day dawning. So taste the sweetness of the life we have in Christ. Determine to love others. Let the love of Christ vanquish the dark lies of separation and distance. And determine to love through the power of Christ. Laying down your life in order to Experience his life. Now, that's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Loving God, you have knit us together in the body of Christ from every nation and tongue. Make us a vessel of your peace today. Make us a vessel of your peace today. Where hatred stirs, let us bear your love. Where wounds run deep, let us be agents of pardon. Where fear grips hearts, may we speak faith. Where sorrow hangs heavy, may we carry joy. God may be opposed to trying to earn something, but he's not opposed to our effort. So let's work at it. We have to work at it because effort is what it's going to take, and our work is an active participation with God. It's a testimony of our inclusion into the life and love of God. It's not done in exchange for his favor or love. No, he has already included us and loved us. Our work is a response to what we have become, what he has made us—his children. So we work. We participate, we respond. We share in the ministry of Christ in this world now. And we all get to do this. Not just the hired folks, the pastors and teachers, the people who speak for a living. No, we are all a part of God's kingdom work. In Ephesians 4:3, we're told that we are to make every effort to keep ourselves unified in the Spirit. Make the effort by throwing off those old attitudes and behaviors that lead to hopelessness. Instead, work at stepping into and training your heart in new attitudes that lead to life and hope and a future. Ephesians 4:4 says that you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. We are to make every effort to renew our mind and thoughts and attitudes. We do that by hearing and applying the gospel to our daily lives. We have to work at that. We have to receive the good news of Christ's sufficiency. We have to remind our hearts daily that his grace is sufficient for all that we face. We need to rest in his love and care for us every day. That is a worthy effort that God honors. Jesus says, for everyone who asks, receives; everyone who seeks, finds; and to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. That will require effort, but the strength will be his. The spirit of Christ living in and through us will be the strength that enables us to work at it. The good news of Christ will be the thing that renews our heart, mind, and attitude. Then we can begin to experience that glorious hope for the future that we have in him. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day. Preserve us with your mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. If you want to grow, you have to have roots. Paul prays that you and I will sink our roots deep down into God's love. His love is where life and growth begin and where it all continues from. His love is where we grow strong. Ephesians 3:16-17 says, “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources, he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts. As you trust him, your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong.” Paul doesn't want us to merely know about this love; he wants us to go on a journey into it, to discover just how long, how wide, how high, and how deep his love really is. This love knows no limits. It can never be fully sounded. We are forever drawn into its embrace. How are your roots today? If you want to grow and have life and strength, you have to sink your roots into his love. Maybe today it's something as simple as hearing the words, “you are loved.” Is there something that keeps you from really receiving that? Is there shame or a wound? Something that stands between you and those words? Whatever comes and mutes those words and tells you they are not for you, I encourage you today to look into the face of Jesus and receive his love without interference. Today you are loved. So let your roots sink deep into Christ and find strength in him. Today there is nothing that can separate you from the love of Christ. You have been drawn into and embraced by him. You can be strong. Let the beauty of the gospel of Christ draw you further up, farther in, and find your strength in him. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Gracious and everlasting God, you have brought us through the shadow of night into the promise of a new day. You go before us with your mercy, sustain us by your grace and keep us from wandering paths of fear or pride. Let every word we speak and every step we take be formed by the goodness of Christ. So grab your Bible, take a deep breath, and let's spend some time together in God's word. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Meaningless, meaningless, cries the preacher. All is meaningless, he cries. Try as he might, he cannot make sense of his broken life. Nothing in the end seems to be right. All seems to be wrong. He cannot find a way to reconcile life's disparities. He has eternity in his heart. And yet the present is fraught with fractures. Nothing makes sense. But Paul in Ephesians cries out something different. You lived in this world without God and without hope. But now, he says, you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. Christ himself has brought us peace through the cross. The good news has come to us. In Christ, no longer is life meaningless and hopeless. No, now we have life in him. When we are tempted to see the world through the lens of despair and hopelessness, we can look to the life of Jesus. We can look to his sacrifice. We can look to the love that has been poured out in order that we might be united with him. In our hopelessness and despair, he has offered us his love. His love led him to a cross so he could free us from that despair and offer us life here, life now with eternal purposes and present joy. The preacher says, "Everything is meaningless, completely meaningless." But Paul says he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. There is someone far greater than Solomon who is able to mend the human soul and make us new. He is even now making all things new. So let us step into the eternal purposes that he has for us so that we can begin to live, abide and rest and play and have joy and strength in him. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Jesus is my shepherd. You have called me by my name into the life of the beloved. Here in the stillness, I remember that I am not alone. I belong to you and to the great communion of saints and sinners held together in your love. Remind me, Lord, that every breath is grace. There are missing pieces. Much has been broken. Much is missing. I need to be filled. I see that now more than ever. And Paul knows what it's like—to know that he needs to be filled. Paul sees that God, in his wisdom and mercy, has come to fill humanity. He's come for humanity, his children, that we might be filled and restored in him. Paul repeatedly says in this one chapter that God is going to fill all things with himself. And elsewhere in the book of Corinthians, Paul says, "God will be all and in all." Christ has come and united himself to us. He has included us in the life that he shares with the Father, in the Spirit. We have been made full and complete in him. Now, ours is to wake up to who we are—to begin to live in the truth of our being. He is making all things new: all those empty places, unfinished places in our lives. Let us be reminded together that Christ has come to fill all things with himself and to make all things new. And that includes you. When he says all things, it means all. And let us receive this promise today of Christ's filling. That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Merciful God, you have brought us through the night. Into this new day, we offer you our lives again. So grab your Bible and join Hunter as we read, reflect, and pray together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: He is our strength—even in weakness. Do you need some good news today? Here it is: you can be strong. God's people are being offered strength through Christ today. As Paul writes at the end of Romans 16, “Now, all glory to God who is able to make you strong.” This is the message held out to the church, to Jew and Gentile alike: there is strength for us, right here, right now, for whatever we are called to walk through. This strength isn't mustered up, it isn't conjured by willpower or striving. In fact, it often arrives most clearly when we feel weakest, when we have come to the end of our own resources. Paul knew this well. In his own life, as he tells us in Second Corinthians, he pleaded with God to remove the hardship he called his “thorn in the flesh.” But God responded, “My grace is sufficient for you. My power is made perfect in weakness.” So Paul learned to boast all the more in his weakness, for it was there that God's strength was most visible. When we feel inadequate or overwhelmed, this is not the moment to despair. It's the moment to draw near and rest in the strength of Christ with us and in us. The invitation is to abide, not strive; to trust, not panic; to walk moment by moment with the One who strengthens our hearts. His power is not constrained by our conditions. In our frailty, his sufficiency shines even brighter. Whatever you are facing today, whatever you feel you can't endure on your own, Christ stands ready to strengthen you. You are not abandoned. God is present in your struggle. He wants to meet you there, in the midst of your weakness, and reveal his power, his sufficiency, his sustaining love. All he asks is that we abide and trust him enough to take the next step. That is the prayer I have for my own soul. That is the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that is the prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord of life, you have awakened me again to the gift of this day. You go before me, walk beside me, and dwell within me. Let me walk slowly in your presence. May I resist the hurried spirit of this world and instead breathe deep of your peace. As we listen, we explore Paul's call for Christians to grow in harmony, love, and joy—not getting lost in religious disputes, but focusing on a kingdom life marked by peace, patience, and service to others. Hunter leads with heartfelt prayer, encouraging us to be vessels of love and unity in a divided world. So settle in for another rich time in God's Word as together we let scripture shape our hearts, our hope, and our journey of faith. TODAY'S DEVOTION: The scriptures teach us and give us hope and encouragement. I typically spend a little time at the start of each podcast referencing the role that the scriptures play in our lives. And I do this because there's a danger of Christians worshiping their Bible rather than worshiping God. The Bible is not the savior of the world. Jesus is. And here, Paul gives us a description of some of what the Bible is doing in the life of the Christian. In Romans, Paul writes, “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us, and the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled.” So what is it the Bible is doing? It's not only teaching us, but igniting in us hope and encouragement as we walk through this life, as we wait for the fullness of what God has promised. And more specifically, Paul says that God gives this patience and encouragement and helps us live in complete harmony with one another. So it is God—the giver of hope and encouragement—who is working in us through the Scriptures, shaping us to look more like Jesus. The Scriptures, when we approach them with open hearts, direct us to the Living Word, to Christ himself, our source of life. What was Paul waiting patiently for? If we look back, Paul's prayer was that the church—those first followers and us today—would come to know that the kingdom of God is not about rules or regulations or arguments over food and drink, but about a life marked by goodness, peace, and joy in the Spirit. The early church was getting lost in religious arguments, and missing the point: they were missing Christ. Paul isn't discouraged, though. He continues to pray, to point them to the Bible, and so encourages their hearts, that their lives might reflect what the kingdom of God is truly like. God's invitation is to something far bigger than religious questions or cultural debates. The kingdom life is an invitation to goodness, to peace, to joy. It's a life marked by healing, service, and love, even for our enemies. This kingdom life, lived in us and through us, puts Jesus on display. The motivation in this new life isn't fear; it's love, because God's Spirit makes it possible. So, may we be taught today. May we receive hope and encouragement today. May our vision of God's kingdom expand, and our patience deepen as we trust that the best is yet to come. My prayer today—for myself, for my family, and for you—is that we would see it, trust it, and live it out with hope, patience, and courage. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Loving God, you have knit us together in the body of Christ from every nation and tongue. Make us a vessel of your peace today. Where hatred stirs, let us bear your love.
