Today, on Karl and Crew, we kicked off our weekly theme, 'Rock Solid,' by discussing the importance of applying the Word to our lives. As followers of Christ, it's essential to read the Word, but we also have to take those words off the page and bring them to action. In a further discussion of the Bible, we were joined by Dr. Timothy Paul Jones to explore the legitimacy of the Word and how we know it's the truth. Dr. Jones serves as Vice President for Doctoral Studies and as Chair of the Department of Apologetics, Ethics, and Philosophy at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also serves as one of the pastors at Sojourn Church Midtown in Louisville. He also cohosts an apologetics podcast called The Apologetics Podcast. We then turned to the phone lines to hear how our listeners apply the truth of the Word to their daily lives. Then we had Simon Guillebaud join us to discuss his ministry in Burundi, East Africa, and the importance of a God-serving community in fostering spiritual growth. Simon is the Founder and International Director of Great Lakes Outreach, which works for the spiritual and physical development of the people of Burundi. He also partners with local Christian organizations to share the Word of God through sustainable projects. Simon has authored several books, including "Choose Life-365 Readings for Radical Disciples." He has also hosted the podcast "Inspired," which regularly tops the UK Christian podcast charts. So many people go through life thinking they don't have a choice, "whatever will happen, and there is nothing you can do about it." But with God, this is not true. We have been given a choice. In Deuteronomy 30:19, God says, "I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live." Life and God's abundant life are not out of reach. God is giving us life, but we don't receive it by default; we must make a decision to choose life for ourselves.

Get ready to Choose Life (and a podcast!), because Season 11 is officially here, and we're kicking off our brand-new theme of 'Drugs' movies with a true behemoth of 90s films: Danny Boyle's iconic Trainspotting (1996). Join us as we unpack why Trainspotting has captivated audiences for decades, despite its characters being, well, mostly "assholes". We dive deep into the film's gritty depiction of heroin use – a portrayal that absolutely, objectively does not glamorize addiction, no matter what Bob Dole (who hadn't even seen it!) might have thought. We'll explore how Danny Boyle's visionary direction, heavily influenced by Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange, delivers a visually experimental and energetic experience despite its heavy subject matter. You'll hear about the famous "Worst Toilet in Scotland", which still manages to skeeve Sarah out to this day and wonder if there is "too much poo" in this movie. We'll dissect the infamous "Choose Life" monologue, which turns out to be far more cynical than many might initially believe. We'll also give our two cents on the film's unique cast, from Ewan McGregor's smug Renton, Robert Carlyle's terrifying Begbie, Jonny Lee Miller's Sick Boy, and Ewen Bremner's surprisingly pure Spud. Here's what you can expect from this episode: We discuss why Trainspotting was chosen to kick things off in season one. Expect a deep dive into the controversial accusations of the film "glamorizing" drug use. We break down the unlikable, yet entertaining, ensemble of characters including Ewan McGregor's Renton, Robert Carlyle's Begbie, and Ewen Bremner's Spud. We consider Trainspotting as a coming-of-age narrative, particularly for Renton. Hear about the infamous feud between Danny Boyle and Ewan McGregor. Trinity Church of Portland - Sermons

In this sermon, Trinity Church Member, Sean, shares insights on Jesus as the ultimate source of life. Referencing John 5:19-30, Sean contrasts human attempts to find fulfillment apart from God with the true life offered through Jesus Christ. He highlights Jesus' perfect obedience to God's will, His role as the giver of life, and His authority to judge. The message challenges both non-believers and believers to turn to Jesus for life and to live in obedience to God's design, finding true purpose and fulfillment in a relationship with Him.

When Israel was about to enter the Promised Land, Moses took the time to remind them of their covenant with God--if they obeyed God in the Promised Land, they would experience life and blessings; but if they spurned God, they would experience curses and death. We know from scripture that Israel did not follow God's commandments, and were eventually exiled from their land. But when we look at Israel, we see a picture of our own spiritual lives. We are just as self-centered and disobedient. We can only follow God by the strength which God provides, and we need Jesus as our Savior.

Life or death — what would you choose? It seems like an easy question, but Jesus chose death so that we could have life. This Easter message explores the essence of that choice: a love so unwavering that it endured public humiliation, 39 lashes, a crown of thorns, and the cross. From Palm Sunday's cheers to Good Friday's cries for crucifixion, we see the fickleness of humanity—and the faithfulness of our Savior. Jesus didn't just talk about love—He proved it through sacrifice. As the Good Shepherd, He laid down His life for His flock, offering us righteousness in exchange for our sin. Now the choice is ours: will we follow Him only when it's easy, or will we choose His way even when it costs us something?   Did you make a decision to follow Christ today? Perfecting Faith Church with Pastor Donnie McClurkin

What if the cycle of struggle in your family could end with you? Pastor Donnie McClurkin shares a powerful and personal word about breaking generational curses and stepping into the fullness of God's promises. Drawing from Deuteronomy 30:15–20, Pastor McClurkin emphasizes the God-given power of choice—urging us to choose life, walk in obedience, and break free from patterns of dysfunction, sin, and defeat. With the prophetic declaration "It ends here," he calls us to introduce blessings to our bloodlines, stand firm in faith, and embrace a life led by God's truth. On this Freedom Friday, we discussed the urgency of living for the Lord today because He will return, and the day of His return is unknown. We turned to the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25:1-13, which illustrates His return and how those who are ready will go with Him while those who are not will remain where they stand. Are you living for the Lord today and prepared for His return? We were also joined by our special guest, Simon Guillebaud, for the conversation. Simon was called to Burundi in 1998 and has been there since. He is now the Founder and International Director of Great Lakes Outreach. This organization partners with other Christian organizations to share the gospel and help build the spiritual and physical development of the people of Burundi. Simon has also authored several books, including his bestseller, “Choose Life-365 Readings for Radical Disciples.” He also hosts the podcast, “Inspired.” You can hear the highlights of today’s program on Karl and Crew Showcast.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to the LIVING FOR THE BOYLE review series!  Daniel Francis Boyle originally hailed from Manchester, England and his filmmaking career took off thirty years ago in 1995 with the release of acclaimed cult thriller Shallow Grave.  And ever since then, Danny Boyle (as he's officially known) has carved out a uniquely successful career not only achieving box office success several times but also winning a few Oscars along the way.  During this time period, he has also become one of MY personal favorite directors, having helmed excellent ORIGINAL stories spanning several genres including children's fantasy, science fiction, crime drama, horror, and biopic.  Over the next few months, I will be reviewing some of my favorite entries from his filmography in the lead-up to the long-awaited sequel to one of his more successful films….28 Years Later which will be released in the U.S. on June 20!Twenty-nine years ago, this raw, high-energy adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel about a group of young men in Edinburgh (Scotland) scoring heroin took the world by storm.  Of course, it was about more than just the drugs....it was a frenetic crime comedy/drama not only exploring addiction but youth.  It also featured a top-flight cast of up-and-coming UK actors along with an iconic soundtrack!  Starring Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Kevin McKidd, and Kelly McDonald, it's time to find out about whether to....Choose Life.   Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The law that came to the Jewish people through Moses was considered to be a word that they believed was able to save their souls and result in attaining righteousness. The only requirement was for them to do it—all of it. After the cross, even Jews who came to believe in Jesus lacked an understanding about a new and better covenant ... as they continued to pursue a relationship with that law of works. The difference in gaining life is found in Christ by faith. Under the law in Deuteronomy 30, "The word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it." It is referencing the word of the law. Paul quoted this reference in Romans 10 but brought a needed revealing of the gospel ... "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." The word of law that demands doing vs. the word of faith that results in justification by believing ... the difference is as far as the east is from the west. --Available on Amazon - "Clash of The Covenants: Escaping Religious Bondage Through the Grace Guarantee" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0713ZSKY7
