Sunday Service (2/1/26) // Revelation 13: 11-14 (ESV) // The Second Beast // 11 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. 12 It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence,[a] and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed. 13 It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, 14 and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of[b] the beast it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived.Footnotesa. Pastor Daniel Batarseh outlines three main points concerning this figure: his identity, his mission, and his authority (4:06-4:45).Here's a breakdown of the key points:Identity of the Second Beast (4:47-18:45):The second beast rises "out of the earth" (5:58-6:01), differentiating him from the first beast who came from the sea. This suggests a worldly origin, rather than a divine one (9:15-10:06).He is described as having "two horns like a lamb" but speaking "like a dragon" (10:30-10:35). This signifies an outward appearance of innocence and harmlessness (11:18-11:23) but an underlying demonic influence, as his words reveal his true, Satanic nature (12:28-12:36, 17:38-17:43).The pastor emphasizes the importance of discerning false teachers by evaluating the content of their message against God's word, rather than their appearance, charisma, or supposed miracles (16:46-17:15).Mission of the Second Beast (23:48-36:15):The primary mission of the false prophet is to compel the inhabitants of the earth to worship the first beast, the Antichrist (27:10-27:31).This false prophet completes a "satanic trinity," mimicking the Holy Spirit's role by directing worship towards the Antichrist, who is presented as a false Christ (28:15-29:17, 30:21-30:31).He will leverage the Antichrist's apparent resurrection from a mortal wound (30:42-31:11) to convince people of the Antichrist's divinity and worthiness of worship (31:13-31:28).This ultimately culminates in a one-world religion focused on the Antichrist, alongside the one-world government (31:51-32:11). The pastor notes humanity's innate desire to worship, which can be misdirected towards idols (33:16-35:19).Authority of the Second Beast (36:29-45:10):The false prophet will perform "great signs," including making fire come down from heaven (37:12-37:17), which are genuine miracles. These powerful miracles are allowed by God as an act of judgment upon those who

If anyone would harm them, this is how he is doomed to be killed. 6 They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire. 7 And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that rises from the bottomless pit[a] will make war on them and conquer them and kill them, 8 and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically[b] is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified. 9 For three and a half days some from the peoples and tribes and languages and nations will gaze at their dead bodies and refuse to let them be placed in a tomb, 10 and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and exchange presents, because these two prophets had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth. 11 But after the three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood up on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. 12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies watched them. 13 And at that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.14 The second woe has passed; behold, the third woe is soon to come.Footnotesa. This weekend, Tyler continued the Bible Study series by teaching through the book of Micah, a prophet who confronts Israel's long history of idolatry and injustice while also pointing forward to the hope of Christmas. One of the central passages he addressed was Micah 6:8, a verse many people view as inspirational—yet in its original context, it is actually a rebuke. Micah 6:8 reveals God's standard for His people: Act Justly — live with integrity, righteousness, and fairness toward others. Love Mercy — show compassion and steadfast love, especially toward the vulnerable. Walk Humbly with God — reject pride, and live in dependence on God rather than self. However, Tyler emphasized that Micah 6:8 ultimately exposes our inability to meet this standard on our own. Like Israel, we repeatedly fall short—no matter how disciplined, sincere, or well-intentioned we may be. This is why Micah points us beyond human effort to the coming King, the one born in Bethlehem, whose strength is divine and whose leadership is perfect. No matter how hard we try, our efforts alone can't reach God's summit. We need a Savior who not only shows the way but becomes the way—lifting us, forgiving us, and leading us into the life Micah describes.

This weekend, Tyler led us in a Bible Study Weekend focusing on the book of Haggai and its timeless relevance for rebuilding our spiritual lives. Haggai, a post-exilic prophet, was tasked with motivating the Jewish people to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem after returning from Babylonian exile. The people had begun the work but became stagnant due to opposition and fear. Haggai's message addressed this spiritual stagnation, calling the people to: Restore the presence of God – Recognize that God's presence is central to life, not just religious ritual. Renew your hope in the future – Trust God's promises even when the work seems small or slow. Rededicate yourself to holiness – Align hearts with God's law, ensuring that actions are not corrupted by sin. God will reverse the curse – Obedience and faithfulness allow God to reverse the curse and restore His people. Tyler highlighted that Haggai's short, direct mission demonstrates a practical formula to reverse spiritual stagnation, applicable to modern struggles like sin, addiction, depression, or complacency. This timeless message finds its fulfillment in Jesus, who keeps God's promises, brings His presence into our lives, and frees us from the power of sin. Will you invite God to restore your heart, renew hope, and transform your life?

A vibrant prayer conversation with God | Messenger to Messiah, part 3

For this third lesson in our series, Stéphanie Rousselle invites us back into the book of Malachi, exploring its lively conversation between God and the Israelites. She likens the dialogue to a "ping pong, tennis match" that embodies a series of question-and-answer exchanges, both from God and His people. This format inspires reflections on the nature of prayer as an honest and open dialogue with God. You are invited to purchase the workbook that contains everything you need to take your experience of the Book of Malachi deeper! For each of the six lessons, you will find a complete listening guide, questions to go deeper (on your own, with a friend, or a group), as well as a worksheet to study further themes. Go to https://www.gospelspice.com/malachi for more. The book of Malachi teaches us about the depth and authenticity required in prayer. It challenges us to ask hard questions, ones that reveal our true desires and convictions, paralleling the Israelites who inquire about justice and God's presence in difficult times. This lesson focuses on understanding these questions within the context of Malachi chapters two and three. A key point discussed is the Israelites' question about justice, "Where is the God of justice?" This is a pivotal inquiry situated within a broader narrative of self-awareness and repentance among the Israelites. They grapple with topics such as their faithlessness, particularly in the context of divorce, which Scripture frames as a profound societal betrayal within their culture. Stéphanie draws connections between the book of Malachi and other Old or New Testament teachings, such as those found in Micah and Romans, highlighting themes of justice, grace, and God's redemptive love through Christ. The Israelites, through their treacherous actions towards one another, reveal a deeper spiritual unfaithfulness to God. The prophetic role of Malachi points to John the Baptist, the latter of whom prepares the way for Jesus, the ultimate messenger. We are invited to consider our own calling as modern-day messengers of God, akin to John the Baptist, as we share the gospel and prepare for Christ's return. Stéphanie discusses the contrast between justice and grace, illustrating that while justice, in its purest form, would condemn us, it is through grace, offered by Jesus, that we are saved. This grace is of utmost importance in the spiritual life, echoed through Scripture and the personal prayers of faith leaders like King David. Closing, in prayer Stéphanie asks for a renewed sense of gratitude and reverence for God's grace and for guidance to be faithful messengers of His word, underlining a central message of the book of Malachi: finding the God of grace in Christ and extending His message of redemption to the world. Details and registration here: https://www.gospelspice.com/prayer  There are a few things in our Christian life that we know we should do more, or at least better – and prayer just might top the list. Prayer is a mystery. Why would a conversation with a human have any influence on God's eternal, sovereign plan? It defies logic, and beckons love. How can God, the Almighty Lord of Hosts, be this close, this personal? It defies understanding, and beckons involvement. But, lack of time, inspiration, and discipline, combined with the ruthless tyranny of our busy lives, push prayer to the periphery, to the “one day I'll get to it” pile. And yet, we can excel at what we endeavor to undertake. So, why isn't prayer more of a spiritual priority? Could we develop a mindset around prayer that made it attractive, inspiring, even maybe delightful? What if we attuned our spiritual ears to listen to God, and our spiritual eyes to see His provision? As an unassuming student, I'm going to humbly offer to share the little I have learned from others about the joy of prayer. I will give us theology, practical tips, and useful resources, sharing what works for me as we, together, learn to pray. If you find prayer intimidating, or if your lack of prayer makes you feel guilty or “less than,” then this is the place for you! If you have been a student of prayer for many years, this is the place for you too! If you have breath in your lungs, then prayer can become one of the deepest joys of your day. Don't miss out! A PERSPECTIVE ABOUT PRAYER To pray is to believe that God not only hears, but that He responds. It is to stand in the gap for a broken world, wielding the authority of Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and trusting in the goodness of the Father. The question is not whether prayer works, but whether we are willing to pray the kinds of prayers that invite God's Kingdom into the darkest places of the earth—and of our own hearts. We may never fully understand the mechanics of prayer, or how it intersects with God's sovereignty, but we are not called to understand everything. We are called to be faithful. And faithfulness means showing up—in prayer, in persistence, in expectation. So today, let us pray not only for the comfort of our hearts, but for the transformation of the world. Let us take our place as image-bearers, co-laborers, and co-heirs. Let us believe that God is still listening—and still acting. Because He is. There's only one way to find out what might happen when we truly pray like this. Let's begin. THE MINDSET BEHIND THIS COURSE Before we begin, let me tell you the obvious: I don't really know how to pray. I'm a humble student and absolute beginner at the holy endeavor that is prayer. So, this course isn't really about what I've learned, or any wisdom I might have gathered. But, I've sat at the feet of many prayer warriors over the decades, through books and teachings. So, I'll share what I learned from them. Humility is going to be our primary heart posture! With each lesson, I will offer a few thoughts, practices, and ideas – with much humility, and not taking myself too seriously. I will also share her favorite books and resources about prayer. FInally, I will introduce you to some of the most influential prayer warriors of our history as the Body of Christ. Most importantly, I will invite YOU to pray! Learning to pray comes from praying. Our humble ambition is to inspire you to pray, and to give you a few tips on how to do that. Then, it's up to you! Prayer is a lifelong endeavor. Let's make it delightful together! Welcome back to our first Books of the Bible for 2025! This week's message was a deep dive into the book of Ecclesiastes, exploring its timeless wisdom and raw reflections on life's meaning. Ecclesiastes repeatedly reminds us that life under the sun—pursuits of wealth, pleasure, and achievement—is like a vapor, fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying without God. It offers hope, emphasizing the importance of fearing God, obeying His commands, and remembering the certainty of judgment. With Jesus, judgment transforms from fear to comfort, offering eternal hope and the assurance of a meaningful life both now and forever. “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!” What do people get for all their hard work under the sun? - Ecclesiastes 1:2-3 That's the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone's duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad. - Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Tyler challenged us to reflect on whether our lives are aligned with God's eternal purpose or caught up in temporary, worldly pursuits.

This Sunday, Tyler concluded our final message in this year's Bible Series by exploring the book of Malachi. As the last book of the Old Testament, Malachi is often referred to as "God's last word before Christmas." Tyler unpacked its rich historical context and themes, drawing meaningful connections between the Israelites' struggles and our own lives today. He reminded us that waiting is not passive but a hopeful and faith-filled act of trust in God's plan. Just as the Israelites waited for the Messiah, Christians today wait for Christ's return. This waiting isn't passive—it's an active expression of hope, trust, and perseverance. Malachi's message challenges us to examine our faith, rekindle our hope, and prepare our hearts for God's ongoing work in our lives. For believers, it's a call to renew our patience and trust in God's plan. For those who are seeking or uncertain, it's an invitation to faith—a reminder of life's uncertainties and the importance of spiritual reconciliation. As we wait for Christ's return, may we hold fast to the lessons of Malachi, embracing hope and trusting in God's faithfulness, just as the Israelites did before the fulfillment of God's greatest promise.

In this sermon, part of our Books of the Bible Series, we dig into the Book of Esther. Esther is a dramatic story about God working in the lives of His people from behind the scenes in the most unlikely people, in the most places. It is a story of courage and faith. While this is the only book in the Bible that does not actually talk about God, it has a clear agenda to teach people about God and His plan. Ultimately, through Esther, the Messianic line from Abraham, Moses, to David is preserved. God's hand is all over this story. Like Esther, we live in a superpower country. And like Esther, we are each called by God to lead in times such as these. There is a purpose far bigger than we could imagine on our own. God is always speaking to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. Let's find God in the coincidences of our world and look forward to where God is leading us.
