As you may know by now, this podcast is an inspirational tool, and illustrates through an athlete's eye how beneficial sports can be throughout life. We hear from our interviewees how sports build confidence, and that through working together as a team, we can achieve great things. In this episode, I have the absolute pleasure of speaking with Robin Farina, a former professional cyclist who has transformed her cycling career and love of sports into full time endurance coaching. Robin will share some insights on her coaching methods to helps us all in achieving our goals. Robin also loves travel, food and wine – a great combination! - and she has incorporated bike and wine tours to cycling-centric places around the world. Robin truly embodies all of the attributes we acquire from sports.
Robin is a long-time friend and fellow native-Nashvillian, and someone I have grown up alongside within cycling and coaching. She is now the owner and head coach at RoFA Endurance, which is based out of Nevada City, CA. Robin won the 2011 Professional Women Road Race, and has raced all the biggest pro women road events across the world, She shares her story of developing into a professional racer while building her coaching business, what her European cycling camps entail, and what mentorship means to her. The WCA was formed in 2013 with an intent to the advance the interests of professional women athletes withing cycling. WCA President Robin Farina is currently in Tuscon to help promote a new documentary by Kathryn Bertine, Half the Road, which was feature on Primetime early last year. Robin began her cycling career over 10 years ago after graduating from the University of Tennessee. Robin is the 2011 National Road Race Champion and a 2012 Olympic long team member. Robin owns an elite coaching company, RF Training, where she trains cyclists and triathletes of all levels. She is also the is co-owner of Uptown Cycles in Charlotte, NC, one of the premier bike shop/training centers in the country. When not on the bike, Robin spends her time helping the Women’s Cycling Association grow and become a global movement for women’s equality in sport and life. She is also an avid yogi and loves all things outdoors!The show also feautues an interview with reknown mental training coach Dr. Kristin Keim. Keim recently finished her dissertaion on athletes with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI's) and has been working with professional athletes mental approach to their sport for the past several years. Keim discusses some of the best practices and pitfalls to help develop a strong mental game for your cycling season.
