We took the mobile studio down to Lewisville, Texas, to sit down with local legends Carlos and Lisa Uranga at the brand-new Full Gas Cycling Fit Studio. Before we dive into the black magic of bike fitting, Brad and Kevin debrief the absolute mudfest at Unbound 2024. We break down Keegan Swenson's F1-style pit stops, the utter dominance of the Specialized Crux, and the momentum building behind Scott's winning 32-inch prototype in the XL field. Then, we get down to the nuts and bolts of how a proper bike fit can give you free watts, fix that nagging lower back pain, and keep you smiling on those ultra-endurance pushes. Carlos and Lisa break down why buying a bike before getting fit is a massive gamble—especially in the era of expensive, integrated cockpits. Whether you are building up a brand-new MOG, tweaking a trusty Fargo, or stubbornly mashing a single-speed, this episode is packed with fit philosophy that will change how you look at your rig.In this episode, we cover:The Unbound 2024 Fallout: Mud, marginal gains, and why a good team dynamic is just as important as tire clearance. The 32-Inch Wheel Revolution: Will it become the new standard for ultra-endurance and bikepacking? The Pre-Purchase Fit: Why you should get mapped on a fit bike before dropping $10k on a rig with an integrated cockpit.Short Crank Science: The mechanical advantage of dropping down to 160mm or 165mm cranks to open up your hip angle and improve aerodynamics.Solving the "Hot Foot": Why standard wide shoes (we're looking at you, Shimano) might be failing you, and how surface area, socks, and custom insoles make or break a 100-mile ride.Direct-to-Consumer Risks: The pros and cons of buying Chinese carbon frames like X-Lab or Quick Pro without a proper geometry consultation.Links & Resources:Full Gas Cycling Fit Studio: fullgasfitstudio.comFind Carlos & Lisa Urrenga's studio off 121 in Lewisville, TX for your next pre-purchase mapping or fit follow-up.0:00 New Location Intro00:22 Meet Full Gas Fit Studio01:31 Unbound Tech Talk 32s05:27 Fit Implications of 32s08:54 Unbound Weather Recap11:11 Wheel Swap Drama14:12 Crux Bike vs Talent16:14 Fit Basics Stack Reach21:57 Buy Fit Before Bike27:28 Integrated Cockpit Headaches34:18 Hot Feet Troubleshooting39:49 Fitting Riders on Flats40:58 Flats Versus Clips41:47 Leg Length Shims42:40 Short Crank Setup44:27 Q Factor Explained45:10 Pedal Options Today47:04 Fit Across Bike Types50:02 Goals Drive Fit51:35 Common Pain Triggers52:50 How Often Refit55:53 Injuries And Compensation57:41 Tools And Assessments59:47 Free Watts For All01:01:14 Modern MTB Geometry01:02:44 Droppers And Setback01:05:24 Hip Angle Blood Flow01:08:08 Watching Pros Critically01:09:52 Three Contact Points01:11:55 Ultra Endurance Fits01:14:16 Pre Fit Before Buying01:17:34 Partnering With Shops01:20:14 Fit Included On 10K Bikes01:20:38 Custom Spec Bikes01:21:05 Booking a Fit01:21:57 Four Hour Fit Day01:23:30 When MOG Won't Fit01:24:38 Testing Cockpits Fast01:26:00 Fit Bike vs Your Bike01:27:19 Pricing and Transfers01:28:24 Why Fits Matter01:30:48 Follow Ups and Fees01:33:54 Crank Length Debate01:37:07 Short Cranks Stories01:44:45 Trends and Geometry01:46:08 DTC Brands and LBS01:50:03 Wrong Bike Problem01:51:32 Wrap Up and Contact
We build durable cyclists. New performance videos every week on YouTube:
In November 1927, a young Italian racer named Tullio Campagnolo stood freezing on a mountain pass in the Dolomites, unable to change gear because his hands were too cold to loosen his wheel nuts. That moment changed cycling forever. Campagnolo would go on to invent the quick-release skewer, pioneer the modern derailleur, and build the components that carried legends like Coppi, Merckx, Hinault, Pantani, and Pogačar to victory. For decades, Campagnolo was cycling. So how did the company that defined the sport end up with zero teams in the 2026 WorldTour? This is the story of Campagnolo — and how greatness slowly lost the race. One of the tools you will have heard Anthony chat about in this podcast is Training Peaks. All The Gear But No Idea - The South Australian Fishing Podcast
Send us Fan MailEpisode 161: Adam from Aeroo DronesThis week we are joined by Adam from Aeroo Drones to chat about their unique Australian owned fishing drone. It can carry and deploy a 1kg bait out into the ocean, can fly in 50kmph winds and can capture it all in 4k video and 12 MP photos! We chat about Adam's own fishing and talk about how the Aeroo company began and how it has grown, now having over 10,000 customers across Australia. Adam reported that SA was its 3rd biggest market and we discussed some of the great spots your could use it across the state, including the Coorong for Mulloway, Port Lincoln for sharks, Snapper across the state and even maybe a Tuna off Victor Harbor when they come in close to shore! We also discuss the big news in SA fishing this week, with the state government announcing changes to the bag limits of the 4 key species affected most by the Algal Bloom restrictions. Squidding is banned in both gulfs, the spatial closure on Whiting around the bottom of Yorkes is back for 3 months - but Spencer Gulf returns to full normal limits, garfish is closed in Gulf of St Vincents while crabbing limits are back to normal across the state. Our tackle item of the week is the new Ledge Runner lure from Shimano. This revolutionary lure comes in 2 sizes: 160 and 200mm and has the ability to swim at different depths, depending how you set the ring at the front of the lure + comes with a Hydro Control wind to maintain a stable swimming action. We also have all of the fishing reports across the state, including Barrel Tuna in the South East, while David Rocca and his mate Rob caught a squid off Edithburgh (before the bans come into place) to take out our Shimano squidding prize pack.
It's the week after the Sea Otter Classic, and the geeks speak surprisingly little of the products shown there. Instead, Ronan and Dave cover new budget drivetrains from SRAM and Shimano. Dave is thinking about unsustainable warranty policies. And there's plenty more covered from the world of cycling tech. As a reminder, members of Escape Collective also get access to Ask a Wrench (at the end of the free episode). This week, Zach Edwards joins Dave in answering a variety of questions from members. Happy geeking!
Today we have a killer show that ends with a KILLER deal, on one of the best selling rods of the last 5-10 years! It's a deal so good, you have to do a double take, but I promise, it's real. We also tackle the topic of scented soft plastics in this week's fishing poll, and in the mailbag we discuss rod and reel cleaning, the Tatula X vs Shimano SLX XT, budget musky setups, and more!
This week, we have tech editors Ronan Mc Laughlin and Josh Weinberg coming in from opposite ends of the world, both in dimly lit hotel rooms, and without their usual podcast recording equipment. It's only up from here! In the first section, Dave Rome chats to Ronan about his previous day touring Pirelli. Then Dave reminds us of the real-world compromises that 1x shifting continues to battle. Also, you'll hear a rant, and Ronan has a Good Thing that many probably already own. Next stop is Dave catching up with our US tech editor Josh Weinberg, who finds himself in Taiwan for the Taipei Cycle Show. And finally, members of Escape Collective (who get access to everything we do at Escape Collective), can tune in for our popular Ask a Wrench segment, where Dave and pro mechanic Zach Edwards answer technical questions from members. Finally, the day has come for Geek Warning to be a motion picture. You'll now find episodes on YouTube, too. Happy Geeking! They review an email about the Coros Dura bike computer's touchscreen, strong battery life, and route-loading limitations, and talk about 32-inch wheel development, supply-chain constraints, and prototype builds. The conversation covers new drivetrain options (Ratio modular derailleur), debating electronic shifting, Schwalbe radial tires for an e-bike, riding an e-bike and even a Brompton on trails, and brief cycling-industry news including Lycra's Chapter 11 filing and Shimano's $11.5M penalty over a crank recall. In this episode of the Mastering Rod Building Podcast, Bill Falconer talks with Captain John Irwin of Fly Right Charters about matching rods, reels, line, and technique into a complete fishing system for inshore, nearshore, and offshore fishing.John shares how a lifetime of fishing, from freshwater and fly fishing as a kid to guiding full time in the Charleston area since 2002, shaped his approach to tackle selection and made versatility a core part of his business. As a guide who splits time between fly and conventional fishing, he brings a broad perspective to building outfits that truly fit the application. They break down how he thinks about pairing rods and reels for real world performance, including why longer, softer tipped spinning rods help cast light artificials farther to spooky shallow water fish, why shorter rods shine around docks and close targets, and how reel size, spool design, braid, and leader choice all work together to improve casting, balance, and fishability. On the broader tackle side, John explains why durability and system balance matter more than specs on paper, how he rigs for everything from redfish and sheepshead to cobia and bottom species, and why investing in quality reels that can be serviced over time pays off for anglers and rod builders alike.Mastering Rod Building is brought to you by Anglers Resource — your source for genuine Fuji Tackle components.Where to buy genuine FUJI®️ rod components (Area Distributors)Japan: FIRST Corporation — https://first-fuji.co.jp/ • mail@first-fuji.co.jpAmerican Continent (North & South America): Anglers Resource — https://anglersresource.net/ • info@anglersresource.netOceania: Frogleys Offshore — https://fujitackle.com.au • enquiries@frogleysoffshore.com.auSpain/Czech/Finland/Sweden/Estonia/Latvia/Poland/Denmark/Belgium/Germany/Netherlands/Ireland/Luxembourg/France/Portugal/UK/Norway/Belarus/Ukraine/Russia:: CALICO S.A. Send a textIn this spontaneous edition of the road.cc Podcast, Ryan is joined by Jack Sexty, Mat Brett and Stu Kerton to discuss Shimano's surprising revamp of its popular fourth tier Tiagra groupset. The reason this is so surprising to us is not just because we were left to surmise that the groupset would eventually be phased out - it's because we were all but told this would be the case in a presentation distributed to the media shortly before the launch of Shimano CUES, the company's range of 9-, 10- and 11-speed components aimed at more recreational riders and commuting. In that presentation, Shimano said its 'mid-tier' road and mountain bike groupsets (below 105 and SLX level) would be unified under the CUES brand, which surely meant Tiagra, Sora and Claris would be chopped... but now we've been told that's not what was being said, and Shimano never explicitly said Tiagra would be phased out. Could have fooled us! Shimano also introduced a mechanical, 12-speed Shimano 105 groupset when it said that wouldn't happen following the launch of 105 Di2 in 2022... so, is all this flip-flopping and U-turning a worrying sign for the world's largest manufacturer of bicycle components, or is it a good thing that a company of Shimano's size can improvise and give the people what they're asking for? The road.cc tech nerds dig into the details based off what they know so far.
This week on the GCN Show, we dive into the "prohibitive" cost of cycling and investigate if the sport is actually cheaper than ever thanks to a booming second-hand market. We also explore a bizarre new scientific study suggesting that training in a hot tub could significantly boost your FTP. Plus, Dan recounts the moment he was overtaken by a World Champion while riding flat-out, and we take a look at Shimano's latest "self-tightening" shoe patent.
Have you experienced certain models of Shimano 12-speed chains rusting more easily than expected? It's one of many topics in this week's Geek Warning, the cycling tech podcast from Escape Collective. This week, Suvi, Alex, and Dave also discuss limitations and concerns regarding the fast-arriving 32in wheels. There's talk of new bikes. And what we carry for fixing tubeless punctures. After spending a few thousand miles on the new Shimano GRX/XTR Di2 mullet (yep, flows right off the tongue), Drew Van Kampen and Logan Jones-Wilkins dig deep into their feelings, sensations, and opinions around the new electronic offering from the Japanese component giant. In line with their reviews of the SRAM XPLR update, a detailed look at the TRP Vistar/Classified groupset, and hopefully more reviews to come, Drew and Logan looked at the groupset from a few different perspectives. This time, both also made some big claims on how it all stacks up against other groupsets, a small tangent into crank lengths and power meters, and one (1) small rant on the pursuit of 13 speeds. Big wheels, a product recall, and another rant about poor bike design – oh yes, it's time for Geek Warning. This week Dave and Ronan return to your digital radios. On the list is a sneaky disappearance of a liked SRAM product, news from UCI regarding 32in wheels, and a recall from Trek. Some time on the tools has Dave ranting about a particularly bad example of internal cable routing, and of course, there's a PSA.Members of Escape Collective get access to the full episode, which includes our popular Ask a Wrench segment (this week with pro race mechanic Brad Copeland). Just a note that we had an audio issue, and so Ask a Wrench this week has us answering two questions rather than the usual three. Still, there's plenty of ground covered.Happy geeking!Time stamps:4:00 - SRAM quietly discontinues older AXS rim brake options7:20 - UCI leaves the door open to 32in wheels in MTB12:00 - Trek's big recall of little things17:10 - Rant time from Dave24:00 - PSA for another place to look for a creak29:00 - Ask a Wrench (Members Only)32:00 - Corrections Corner for the previous Ask a Wrench34:00 - Can a chainring wear out before a chain?41:00 - Shimano 105 shifter levers not engaging

Jeez, that Dave and Ronan can sure ramble on about a new groupset. Indeed, this week's Geek Warning has the geeks geeking over Campagnolo's much-awaited release of 1x13 wireless. They chat about what's new, the limitations of a single chainring for general road riding, and why the future for the iconic Italian manufacturer seems brighter. While that chat may be a little premium for some tastes, the rest of the episode is all about more practical things. Madrone Cycles got its start making parts to repair a variety of SRAM mountain bike derailleurs, but now they're taking on a much more ambitious project: building their own derailleur from the ground up. Third-party derailleurs had a brief run in the earlier days of mountain biking, but SRAM and Shimano have completely dominated the market for decades now. So why is Madrone taking on the big players now, and what sets their new Jab derailleur apart? We sat down with Madrone founder, Aaron Bland, to discuss all that and more.RELATED LINKS:Blister Mountain Bike Buyer's GuideGet Our Free Newsletter & Gear GiveawaysBLISTER+ Get Yourself CoveredTOPICS & TIMES:Founding Madrone & starting with SRAM derailleur rebuilds (1:57)Electronic shifting & the resurgence of third-party mechanical derailleurs (4:02)The hardest details to get right (12:57)Evolution of the Jab design (17:25)Serviceability & Madrone's rebuild service (22:58)Clutch & pivot designs (27:43)Modularity (32:26)Jab options (41:34)What's next from Madrone? Long-time listeners of Geek Warning are in for a treat as Zach Edwards (Boulder Groupetto) returns for a full episode. Along with Dave Rome and Alex Hunt, there is a whole lot of ultimate bike geek to this week's episode.Within, you'll hear about some unintentionally leaked information related to what's likely the next generation of Shimano road pedals.Dave then takes the conversation to an old favourite topic – chain waxing. Next, those new to cycling or less knowledgeable about the technical aspects may appreciate a dedicated new section that aims to cover topics that bike shop staff frequently repeat multiple times a week. This week, it's all about drip-on wax lubes.Of course there's some industry news to talk about, and finally a decision on the UCIs handlebar width pondering. All of that is free for all, but members of Escape Collective then get access to the Ask a Wrench segment of the podcast. Here, the geeks answer a number of member-submitted technical questions with information that should prove helpful if you're working on bikes or keen to expand your technical knowledge.Happy geeking!Time stamps:01:50 - Is a new generation of Shimano road pedals around the corner?10:40 - Chain waxing temperatures, does it matter?17:00 - Back to basics: Chain lubes31:00 - UCI adjusts and confirms its bar width ruling37:30 - YT set to close42:50 - CSS Composites closing48:00 - Ask a Wrench (Members only)48:30 - Getting perfect shifting with Shimano Tiagra56:30 - Where to begin with modern mountain bike geometry1:04:30 - Shimano 12-speed cassettes and the Adhesive Ring
Will lower gearing make for safer racing? The UCI thinks so, but it could also make all of SRAM's 1X drivetrains verboten at the highest level of competition without affecting Shimano or Campagnolo. SRAM disagrees, obviously, and has begun legal action in Europe, citing reputational damage and EU competition laws. And as you'd expect, the UCI responded yet again. That and more on this week's episode of Velo Podcast. Velo Tech Editor Josh Ross and host Mike Levy dig into the details of the UCI's potential 10.46-meter rollout rule and why SRAM's 10-tooth cog doesn't comply, safer courses versus lower gearing, and the UCI's near silence when it comes to so many issues. We also discuss the UCI president's social media post congratulating Tadej Pogacar on his TT World Champs victory in Rwanda, despite Remco being the actual victor, and we look at Alvin's first impressions of Factor's new Aluto gravel bike.
