Welcome to the Dr. Daf Show! In today's episode, we are joined by Tonier Cain, who shares her remarkable story.  From multiple s*xual assaults and neglect at a young age to 83 arrests and 63 convictions, drug addiction, alcoholism, prostitution, homelessness, physical assaults, multiple r*apes, getting her children taken by the state, etc etc, Tonier is a walking testimony to God's power and love. While in prison and pregnant, she lay on her cell floor and cried out to God. She said her prayer was sincere and desperate: “God, I don't know if you listen to people like me but if you do, please help me!”  She then enrolled in a community program to heal and recognize trauma victims. It was during the program that she received mental health, substance abuse, and trauma treatment. Since then, she hasn't had the desire to do drugs or return to the streets.  In March 2023, Tonier will celebrate 19 years free from drug addiction, alcoholism, street life, and prostitution. Today, Tonier is a living example of why you should trust in God and never give up hope. She gave her life to Christ, turned her life around, and now She speaks at prisons all over the country, inspiring women. She started a nonprofit called Neen Cares Inc. that provides intervention and support for those suffering from trauma as she did. She has been featured in and produced her own documentaries and films on her story, written multiple books and now owns a successful skincare line, called Hope by Tonier, where proceeds help fund her non-profit. But through all of her accomplishments, Tonier is most proud of being a mom to her 20-year-old daughter, Orlandra, the one she said inspired her that fateful day in prison to change her life.  Visit https://www.toniercain.com to learn more! onier Cain-Muldrow is the CEO and founder of Healing Neen, Inc; founder and president of Neen Cares, Inc; founder and Co-CEO of MET-R – a nonprofit organization that provides services to trauma survivors worldwide; and an international speaker on trauma, incarceration and recovery. Fourteen years ago, she lay on the cold floor of a prison cell at the end of her rope. Her surroundings were familiar to her because for 19 years, home had either been underneath a bridge or in a prison cell. In fact, this marked the 83rd time she had been arrested. Her situation was so grave she would never live a normal life, they said, not after nearly 20 years of addiction. Yet all she needed was for someone to take the time to discover the WHY behind her behavior. As she lay there on the concrete floor, weeping uncontrollably and desperate to keep the baby that was growing inside her, she uttered the words that would change her life forever, “God, I don’t know if you listen to people like me. But if you do, please help me.”

Tonight's special guest is Tonier "Neen" Cain from Maryland, child abuse and neglect survivor who's produced a documentary "Healing Neen" where she explains how she endured the trauma as well as the consequences of abuse .. addictions, homelessness, and mental health issues. She was repeatedly told that she was worthless and would never amount to anything. Neen had been beaten by her alcoholic mother, who lost custody of Neen and her siblings and was placed in foster care until a cousin provided a safe home. But the traumatic childhood experiences were too much to bear. She married as a minor and subsequently had five children. For nineteen years, Neen lived under a bridge, in a jail cell, and on crack cocaine. Tonier Cain had 83 arrests, with charges ranging from prostitution to possession, and she was convicted 66 times. She was unable to care for her four older children. As an inmate, Neen felt helpless and hopeless, and resigned herself to a life time in a jail cell. Neen says she was humiliated, medicated, raped and beaten, but felt safer than on the streets. The documentary explains how prison exacerbates trauma. Woven between the lines of Neen's story is the urgent call to action: that providing trauma informed treatment can reduce the cycle of destruction and increase the potential of people who have been abused. A therapist told Neen what she needed to hear to plan for a fulfilling future. Neen's behavior was not an indictment of her worthlessness but was a reaction to what had been done to her as a child. As Neen says, "As long as there is breath there is hope." Rather than being homeless, she is a homeowner, a public speaker, an advocate for victims, and is raising her daughter with love and dignity. -- written by Lynn Tolson
