Rising rents and fewer vacant apartments — the housing crisis is continuing to worsen in Australia. Internationally, one city is often mentioned as a possible alternative model: Vienna. The Austrian capital has been regarded as a pioneer in social housing for decades, with around half of the population there having access to subsidized housing. In her new dateline report “Vienna: A Renters' Paradise,” SBS journalist Jennifer Scherer examined how this system works and why Vienna is often referred to as a “tenant paradise.” In an interview, she explains what is behind the Vienna housing model — and whether countries like Australia could learn from it.

On this Wednesday episode of Right On Radio host Jeff is joined by John Brisson of We've Read the Documents for a wide‑ranging, fast‑moving conversation that mixes scripture, current events and prophetic interpretation. The show opens with the regular "Word on Word" segment comparing John 10:11 and Deuteronomy 7:9, followed by a preview of an important Podbean announcement Jeff teases for Friday. Jeff and John dissect a viral literary oddity — Leslie Donald Epstein's 1979 novel King of the Jews — and compare it to earlier prophetic/fictional coincidences (Ingersoll Lockwood, Baron Trump) as they explore themes of cultural projection, anti‑Christian currents in modern thought, and symbolic covers and characters that mirror contemporary figures. The discussion shifts to U.S. domestic politics: controversy around election integrity, the SAVE Act, subpoenas and evidence retrieval in Maricopa and Georgia, reports about DOJ actions around autopen cases, and concerns about National Guard mobilization and expanding detention infrastructure. They weigh possibilities from humiliation rituals to actual exposures that could reshape American politics. Internationally, Jeff and John analyze the Iran conflict, Israel's rhetoric, recent U.S.–Russia communications (including Trump's call with Putin), and shifting energy/financial alignments — including talk of moving energy trades back into U.S. dollars and fractures in BRICS. Military developments and new weapons technology (particle beams/laser/orbital strike) and their strategic implications are examined, with references to historical programs and contemporary contractors. Interwoven with political analysis are prophetic readings: the hosts debate interpretations of the rider on the white horse, whether Trump or another figure fits end‑time archetypes, and how emerging geopolitics might tie to eschatological timelines. They also touch on cultural disclosure topics (institutionalized sexual abuse revelations) and the societal consequences of increasing mainstream acknowledgment. The episode closes with practical notes: an invitation to the weekly Wednesday prayer call on Telegram, a personal update about Jeff's father's hospitalization and a pastoral reminder to love God, family and community. Listeners can expect theology, politics, conspiracy analysis, prophetic reflection and calls to prayer across this episode. Internationally renowned painter Anne Plaisance joins me for a powerful and honest conversation about art, domestic violence, manipulation tactics, and reclaiming your voice.Anne has exhibited in over 100 shows worldwide. She has received distinctions and grants from the Cambridge Arts Council and Massachusetts Cultural Council, and her work is collected internationally in London, Milan, Paris, Warsaw, Dubai, Kyoto, and Boston. And then she realized something life-altering. That story was also hers.In this episode, Anne shares:• How Wonder Women Now was born• Why domestic violence is often invisible• The 20 to 40 manipulation tactics used in abusive dynamics• Her powerful perfume series represents gaslighting, love bombing, triangulation, projection, and more• What it took to leave an abusive relationship• Why education and awareness are the first steps toward change• How art can become a sword for truth and repair. Anne says, “My brush is my sword.”And today, she also uses her voice. This episode is for anyone who has ever felt confused in a relationship. For anyone who has quietly blamed themselves. For anyone who needs language for what they are experiencing. It can happen to anyone.Awareness restores clarity. Clarity restores choice.

Give to help Chris make Truce President Jimmy Carter's presidency (1977–1981) faced several major challenges, both domestically and internationally. One of the biggest domestic issues was the struggling U.S. economy. Carter inherited high inflation and unemployment, problems that worsened during his term. The country experienced "stagflation" — a combination of stagnant economic growth and high inflation. The energy crisis, marked by oil shortages and skyrocketing gas prices, further fueled economic instability. Though Carter promoted energy conservation and alternative energy development, many Americans viewed his efforts as inadequate or overly pessimistic. Internationally, Carter faced major challenges in foreign policy. One of the most significant was the Iran Hostage Crisis, which began in November 1979 when 52 American diplomats and citizens were taken hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. The crisis lasted 444 days and was a major blow to Carter's administration, especially after a failed rescue attempt. It deeply affected U.S. relations with Iran and damaged public confidence in Carter's leadership. Though Carter did achieve a major diplomatic success with the Camp David Accords — a peace agreement between Egypt and Israel — the Iran Hostage Crisis ultimately overshadowed much of his foreign policy work. Another major issue during Carter's presidency was a perceived lack of effective leadership. Carter, known for his integrity and moral outlook, struggled to build strong relationships with Congress and the media. He often took a technocratic, detail-oriented approach to governing, which alienated many political allies. Critics saw his administration as indecisive and overly focused on long-term goals rather than immediate results. These perceptions contributed to a loss of public confidence and were a key factor in his defeat by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 presidential election. Yun Cha selflessly gave up speaking her native tongue to her children to help them assimilate back into their American culture.Chris says "my mom was a great dreamer and she dreamed of such wonderful things.   If you do what you want, you'll never work a day in your life." Chris says that was great until he wanted to work in the theatre industry. Suddenly mom was championing for her son to be a doctor or lawyer and not the theatre rat that Chris wanted to be.While living overseas, Chris and his older sister were immersed in the local culture regardless of what country they were living. That was one of many benefits of the American schools on the base. All the children were introduced to the history, arts and  entertainment of the surrounding area. They were exposed to so much more than their school books.Eventually Chris's mother did go back to visit her remaining family in Korea. It was then that Yun Cha was able to get a recovered photograph of her mom, something that she longed for for many years. It brought her great comfort to finally see the photo of her mom again.Chris's theatrical work, slightly on pause because of the pandemic: "Odd Lot "Improv Company and "Savannah Shakers" Shakespeare Theatre Company Podcast: "The Most Haunted City on Earth" -the telling of ghosts stories around Savannah. When Jackson's grandfather entered the café bloodied and beaten, the young man tried to take him to a hospital. But they were quickly shoved back by a crowd of club-swinging troopers and terrified marchers. Another trooper pulled his pistol and shot Jackson in the stomach. It was two hours before Jackson arrived at the hospital in Selma. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Joseph M Lenard, author of the book The Book of Kennedy. Joseph Martin Lenard is a former IT (Information Technology) guy now turned American author, blogger, cancer survivor, podcaster, political activist, speaker, social media influencer, spokesperson / affiliate for American Hartford Gold IRA group, and vlogger known for writing and publishing the #1 Amazon bestseller historical fiction thriller Terror Strikes: Coming Soon to a City Near You. He also released in December 2022 a book called How To Write A Book And Get It Published: Hints, Tips & Techniques, to help writers fulfil their dream of becoming an internationally published author, and his third Internationally available fare dropped August 2023 titled ChristiTutionalist TM Politics as a companion (written piece) to his ChristiTutionalist TM Politics podcast of same name began airing in June 2023. In 2025 release of 6th International book "The Book Of Kennedy" (his first available in Hard-Cover, as well as Audio-Book, eBook, Softcopy) hit in August of 2025.   In my book review, I stated The Book of Kennedy is YA novelette. The book follows Kennedy, a young woman who is transitioning from one relationship to another. Written without any dialogue, the reader is put into Kennedy's head as she contemplates relationships, life, faith, hope, and kindness.   Joseph uses scriptures, song lyrics, and movie/book quotes to help the reader understand Kennedy's journey forward as she reflects on her past relationship and the new one.   Joseph states upfront that he is not trying to be Dickens, and that he uses today's way of speaking to write. Although I understand his reasoning, I often found it difficult to read, wanting to stop and correct the errors along the way or change fragments into full sentences. Nonetheless, the lessons learned are very valuable. Plus, he gives a long list of additional resources for those who want to learn more about the philosophy being mulled in Kennedy's head.   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   Join the Novels N Latte Book Club community to discuss this and other books with like-minded readers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3576519880426290   You can follow Author Joseph M Lenard Website: http://JosephMLenard.us FB: @Martin.Edward.Kieler IG: jlenarddetroit LinkedIn: Joseph M Lenard   Purchase The Book of Kennedy on Amazon: Paperback: https://amzn.to/3NKLEFp Ebook: https://amzn.to/3ZCf379   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? Episode 171 centers on Elimination Chamber fallout and the way one night in Chicago shifted the structure of WrestleMania 42. Randy Orton outlasted Cody Rhodes, Logan Paul, Trick Williams, LA Knight, and Je'Von Evans to secure a WWE Championship match on the biggest stage, but the path there was defined by interference rather than endurance. Logan Paul eliminated three competitors before Seth Rollins returned through an open Chamber door and attacked him, immediately destabilizing the match. That same opening allowed Drew McIntyre to enter and strike Rhodes with the WWE Championship. Orton dropped McIntyre with an RKO, Rhodes answered with Cross Rhodes, and as Rhodes stood, Orton delivered a second RKO to win. In the aftermath, Nick Aldis announced McIntyre will defend the WWE Championship against Rhodes on SmackDown, leaving Orton locked in for WrestleMania while Rhodes remains in pursuit and Rollins reenters the equation. The women's Chamber provided clearer direction. Rhea Ripley defeated Tiffany Stratton, Raquel Rodriguez, Asuka, Kiana James, and Alexa Bliss to earn her WrestleMania match against Jade Cargill. Rodriguez created chaos with a double elimination, Asuka misted Bliss before being eliminated, and Ripley closed with the Riptide to formalize a high level collision at WrestleMania. AJ Lee added another headline by submitting Becky Lynch to win the Women's Intercontinental Championship, her first singles title victory in over a decade, while CM Punk retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Bálor after surviving sustained rib targeting and finishing with the GTS in his hometown. The long teased mystery crate revealed Danhausen, drawing a mixed reaction and existing more as spectacle than structural shift on the road to WrestleMania. Outside the Chamber, AJ Styles formally confirmed his in ring retirement. He will remain with WWE in a non wrestling capacity and enter the 2026 Hall of Fame, closing the door on speculation about a final run elsewhere. We also examine the newly announced Android Inoki project targeting 2027, which begins with an AI model trained on Antonio Inoki's speech patterns and philosophy before integration into a humanoid form. Positioned as legacy preservation, it raises broader questions about likeness rights, commercialization, and how wrestling history will intersect with artificial intelligence moving forward. From a business standpoint, TKO disclosed that WWE generated 1.709 billion dollars in revenue for 2025. The 2026 Royal Rumble in Riyadh produced 55 million dollars, and WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia is projected to exceed 100 million. WrestleMania 42 will follow a hybrid distribution model, beginning on ESPN and ESPN2 before shifting to ESPN Unlimited domestically and Netflix internationally, reflecting WWE's continued evolution in broadcast and streaming strategy. Across weekly programming, championships changed hands on SmackDown and NXT, Bronson Reed suffered a distal biceps tear that forces creative adjustments, and AEW builds toward Revolution under schedule compression with MJF set to defend the AEW World Championship against Hangman Page in a Texas Death Match with permanent stakes language attached. Internationally, NJPW crowned new STRONG and Television champions, CMLL delivered a high stakes hair match at Arena México, and Mauro Ranallo joins commentary for Global Wars Canada. Episode 171 connects creative fallout, retirement finality, AI experimentation, revenue transparency, and shifting broadcast strategy as WrestleMania season accelerates. Listen now.

I truly enjoyed my conversation with Naveen.Even with  all of his accomplishments, he's very humble and unassuming. When speaking about his mother, he fondly recalls stories of how his mother ran their household. Don't forget, at this time in India, women did not work. Their role was to make sure the home was well kept  with generations of family members all living under one roof. Naveen's father was a Senior Officer in the Royal Service and it was an arranged marriage that brought the couple together. Jayalakshmi  was an exceptionally talented writer of short stories and novels. Her first priority was at home taking care of the family. She never sat around. She carried a clip board around with her and wrote down her most cherished thoughts. On a daily basis, she kept all the financial records/household accounts of how much money was spent each day. She stayed up late every night to write in two different India languages.   Naveen learned from his maternal grandmother that his mother, the first of eight children dropped out of school after sixth grade because she wanted to get married and settled down. Culturally that was accepted and the norm for the most part.My guest, the youngest  of four children, had two sisters and one brother. As he says now, "I'm the last man standing." He grew up among elders including his aunt and uncle and his cousin all together in one household. Naveen shares three very touching stories about his mother including how and when she started her writing, her professional connections and her public recognition as a highly revered author.  Again, in India, this is unheard of and she did this without fanfare or calling attention to herself.Naveen's mom, didn't have much of a sense of humor according to her son. She was very practical and a no nonsense kind of woman yet happy with her life.To find out more about my guest you can use the link below. He is the recipient of the 2018 DaVinci Eye Finalist-The Eric Hoffer Award.  “Courageous and resilient women in history: Women are under-represented in history. A closer look and even fantasy in fiction may help," say Sradhir. My guest has written several books about women who have overcome difficulties, oppression and more. Mr. Sridhar continues " women ,famous or not,  who show their grit by way of resilience, adamance and courage, these women are quiet and not talked about, their stories untold. Instead of HIS-tory maybe it should be HER-story."Naveen Sridhar's website:   https://www.naveensridhar.com/Languages Naveen Speaks: English, German, Hindi, French, Kannada, Spanish, Tamil, Urdu   "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers/female role models and the roles they play in our lives. Chuck And Julie Show with Chuck Bonniwell and Julie Hayden Crisis in the Colorado GOP and Geopolitical Shifts in Iran: The Chuck and Julie Show This episode of the Chuck and Julie Show focuses on the escalating financial and leadership crisis within the Colorado Republican Party under Chair Brita Horn. The hosts also analyze the geopolitical fallout following the death of Iran's Supreme Leader and the subsequent military actions by the U.S. and Israel. The Colorado GOP Financial Collapse and Leadership Dispute The Colorado Republican Party is facing a severe internal crisis characterized by mounting debt and legal "lawfare." Since Chair Brita Horn took office less than a year ago, the party's finances have plummeted from a 74,000 surplus to debt exceeding 267,000 as of January. The hosts highlight that the party is currently accumulating debt at a rate of approximately 2,800 per day. Much of this is attributed to legal fees from attorney Steve Klinda, who billed the party 84,000 in January alone and is now demanding a total of $211,000. Critics argue these legal actions are vindictive and aimed at fellow Republicans rather than political opponents. Ray Garcia, Chairman of the Colorado Hispanic Republicans, joined the discussion to detail the efforts to oust Horn. A petition was filed to hold a meeting where 90% of eligible voters previously demanded Horn's resignation, though she has disputed the validity of that meeting. A second meeting is scheduled for tonight, but there are significant concerns regarding "technical glitches" and administrative manipulation intended to rig the voting numbers. Garcia noted that the party's attorney has been avoiding service of legal papers while continuing to bill for communication regarding the dispute. International Turmoil: The Neutralization of Iranian Threats The discussion shifted to the death of Iran's Supreme Leader and the Trump administration's aggressive military response. The hosts noted that the U.S. Navy and Israeli forces have effectively dismantled the Iranian Navy, reducing their presence in the Gulf of Hormuz from 11 ships to zero. Military strikes have also targeted radar systems and defense shields protecting Iran's nuclear arsenal. While the hosts expressed ambivalence toward long-term "nation-building," they supported the immediate neutralization of a regime that has historically called for "Death to America". The hosts observed that the Iranian regime appears to be in chaos, with sporadic drone attacks on neighbors like Dubai possibly being a desperate attempt to test remaining defense mechanisms or simply the result of a fractured command structure. Despite the instability, the hosts highlighted that many Iranians, particularly the urban middle class and women, appear supportive of the regime's downfall, though the lack of a clear successor remains a concern. The Colorado GOP is at a breaking point, with its future dependent on the outcome of tonight's contentious leadership meeting and the resolution of its massive debt. Internationally, the power vacuum in Iran presents both an opportunity for regional stability and a risk of prolonged chaos, as the U.S. shifts away from nation-building toward a strategy of pure threat neutralization.

They examine viral footage comparing Trump's 2026 immigration remarks to Bill Clinton's 1995 State of the Union, highlighting the stark reversal in Democratic positioning on border enforcement. The conversation shifts to healthcare and pharmaceutical pricing reform, with Trump's “most favored nation” prescription drug proposal and calls to codify it into law. The hosts debate the SAVE Act, mail-in voting vulnerabilities, black box machines, and whether proposed election reforms are meaningful fixes or controlled opposition. Internationally, they explore the UK's fragmented political landscape following a Green Party parliamentary win and what it signals about populist shifts abroad. Back home, they critique Senate priorities after lawmakers staged a puppy parade amid government shutdown drama. This Day in Legal History: Edison Receives Patent on PhonographOn February 19, 1878, Thomas Edison received a patent for one of his most transformative inventions: the phonograph. The device could record and reproduce sound, a breakthrough that stunned the public and reshaped the relationship between technology and creativity. Until that point, copyright law primarily protected written works such as books, maps, and sheet music. The phonograph introduced an entirely new category of expression—recorded sound—that did not fit neatly into existing statutes. Lawmakers and courts were soon confronted with a difficult question: who owns a performance once it is captured on a machine?Early copyright frameworks did not clearly account for performers' rights in recorded works. As the recording industry grew, pressure mounted to recognize both composers and performers as legal stakeholders. Congress responded incrementally, expanding federal copyright protections to cover sound recordings in the twentieth century. These changes reflected a broader shift toward adapting intellectual property law to technological innovation. Courts also played a role by interpreting statutes in ways that acknowledged the economic realities of recorded music. The phonograph's legacy thus extends far beyond its mechanical design. It forced the legal system to confront how creative labor should be valued in an age of reproduction. In doing so, Edison's invention helped lay the foundation for modern intellectual property law governing sound recording and broadcasting.A coalition of environmental and public health organizations has filed suit against the Trump administration over its decision to revoke the scientific “endangerment finding” that underpins federal climate regulations. The case was brought in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and also challenges the Environmental Protection Agency's move to repeal vehicle tailpipe emissions limits. The administration recently announced it would eliminate the 17-year-old finding and end greenhouse gas standards for model years 2012 through 2027.The endangerment finding, first adopted in 2009, concluded that greenhouse gases threaten public health and welfare, triggering regulatory authority under the Clean Air Act. Its repeal would remove requirements for measuring and complying with federal vehicle emissions standards, though immediate effects on stationary sources like power plants remain uncertain. The administration characterized the rollback as a major cost-saving measure, estimating $1.3 trillion in taxpayer savings.By contrast, the Biden administration had previously argued the vehicle standards would produce net consumer benefits, including lower fuel and maintenance costs averaging thousands of dollars over a vehicle's lifetime. The lawsuit marks one of the most significant legal challenges yet to President Trump's broader effort to scale back climate policy, promote fossil fuel development, withdraw from the Paris Agreement, and dismantle clean energy incentives. Transportation and power generation each account for roughly a quarter of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, underscoring the stakes of the regulatory reversal.Environmental groups challenge Trump decision to revoke basis of US climate regulations | ReutersMeta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to testify in a Los Angeles jury trial examining whether Instagram harms young users' mental health. The case centers on allegations that Meta designed its platform to keep children engaged despite knowing about potential psychological risks. A California woman who began using Instagram and YouTube as a child claims the platforms contributed to her depression and suicidal thoughts. She is seeking damages, arguing the companies prioritized profit over user well-being.Meta and Google deny the accusations and point to safety features they have implemented. Meta has also cited research suggesting that evidence does not conclusively show social media directly changes children's mental health. Defense attorneys argue the plaintiff's struggles stem from personal and family issues rather than her social media use.The lawsuit is part of a broader wave of litigation in the United States, where families, schools, and states have filed thousands of similar claims against major tech companies. Internationally, governments such as Australia have imposed age-based restrictions, and other countries are considering similar measures. The trial could test the tech industry's longstanding legal protections against liability for user harm. If the plaintiff prevails, the verdict may weaken those defenses and open the door to additional claims. Zuckerberg is expected to face questions about internal company research concerning Instagram's effects on teens.Meta's Zuckerberg faces questioning at youth addiction trial | ReutersA federal judge in San Francisco has ordered a lawyer representing passengers in sexual assault litigation against Uber to pay sanctions for violating a protective order. The ruling requires attorney Bret Stanley to pay $30,000 in legal fees to Uber after he disclosed confidential company information obtained during discovery. The case is part of consolidated litigation accusing Uber of failing to implement adequate safety measures and background checks for drivers, claims the company denies.U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisa Cisneros found that Stanley improperly shared the names of internal Uber policies in unrelated lawsuits and with other plaintiffs' attorneys. Uber argued that he used the confidential material as a roadmap to pursue evidence in other cases. The judge concluded that Stanley acted unreasonably by unilaterally deciding to disclose protected information. However, she rejected Uber's request for more than $168,000 in fees, finding that the company had not demonstrated significant harm from the disclosures.Stanley defended his actions, stating he intended to streamline discovery in related cases and accused Uber of delaying document production nationwide. The judge also indicated Stanley will owe additional fees tied to a separate sanctions request, after finding he searched case documents to assist another lawsuit. The decision comes shortly after a federal jury awarded $8.5 million to a woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted by an Uber driver.Uber wins sanctions against lawyer for sexual assault plaintiffs | Reuters This is a public episode. The conversation opens with President Trump's rollout of Trump Rx and what it signals for drug pricing, insurance middlemen, and the broader healthcare cartel. From there, the discussion moves into election integrity, including explosive revelations out of Georgia, ongoing concerns about machine voting, hand counts, and why meaningful reform is still being slow-walked. CannCon and Chris also examine the latest maneuvers from Congress, including the renewed Clinton spectacle, Epstein-related developments, and why these “oversight” efforts feel more like political theater than accountability. Internationally, they dig into Romania's overturned election, EU censorship tactics, and what it reveals about global interference in so-called democratic processes. The episode wraps with sharp commentary on media narratives, establishment power plays, and why parallel systems, in health, elections, and information, are becoming unavoidable. A packed, fast-moving show that connects the dots and challenges the official story from start to finish.

Musicians and songwriters are storytellers. And Jackson has been writing songs since he was about 12 years old. His debut single, "I Love you Mom" is a belated birthday gift to his mom. He wasn't going to record it in his next studio session but his coworkers insisted, and here we are.Over the years and decades of working in the radio industry, I've interviewed hundreds of musicians. Jackson is up there at the top of the list as far as being polite, honest, humble and open about his strengths and weaknesses. I imagine a lot of that comes from his childhood and the fact that his family played a huge role in his life. Family is very important to my guest, not only because they keep you grounded, but he realized at a young age exactly how fortunate he truly was to have a mom , dad and brother that  truly supported each other. He was taught to show respect and appreciation for all that he has and he really is all that!  Jackson talks about "his solid foundation" and how it helps him stayed focused.'Norman's Rare Guitars' in Los Angeles, CA recorded a few videos with Jackson featured playing the guitar with special guest musicians. For such a young performer, he got some crazy memorable stories to share about all the celebrated artists he's come into contact with.I wish you all the best Jackson! On this episode of the MeidasTouch Podcast, we break down yet another chaotic day in Trump-world, starting with Trump attacking affordability and melting down further in a disastrous press conference, after he unleashed another barrage of deranged social media posts. We cover how ICE's campaign of terror continues despite swapping out leadership from Bovino to Tom Homan, as Trump's already-bad polling sinks even lower. Internationally, we examine Trump's dangerous moves with fringe Canadian separatists in Alberta and his use of familiar Russian-style divide-and-destabilize tactics, alongside critical updates on Iran, Syria, and Venezuela. Back at home, a government shutdown is looming now that MAGA Mike is gone, right-wing podcasters are suddenly turning on Trump, and new reporting exposes corruption, layoffs, and why Melania's movie is shaping up to be a massive flop. We also discuss the stunning FBI raid on the Fulton County election office tied to Trump's ongoing election conspiracy theories, and why all of it paints a clear picture of a regime, and a nation, in crisis. Today's Headlines: U.S. immigration enforcement is under intense scrutiny after another person was shot and critically injured during a Border Patrol–involved incident in southern Arizona. Details remain limited, with officials declining to identify the victim or explain how the shooting unfolded. Meanwhile in Minnesota, Rep. Ilhan Omar was attacked during a town hall after a man lunged at her and appeared to spray an unknown, foul-smelling substance from a syringe before being arrested on assault charges. Five days after the fatal shooting of Minnesota nurse Alex Pretti during an ICE encounter, the public still doesn't know who pulled the trigger — even as DHS has acknowledged that two ICE agents fired their weapons. The department is facing growing backlash after DHS Secretary Kristi Noem falsely claimed Pretti intended to “massacre” agents, a statement the White House has since tried to walk back while shifting blame internally. Minnesota is now suing the federal government for failing to preserve evidence from the shooting, with federal lawyers arguing they aren't required to do so. Criticism of ICE has also intensified following the death of 30-year-old U.S. citizen Wael Tarabishi, who relied on his father as a primary caregiver before his father was detained by ICE. Tarabishi died after weeks in the hospital, and ICE has refused to temporarily release his father to attend the funeral. Politically, Noem is facing impeachment pressure from House Democrats, while a Minnesota judge has ordered ICE's acting director to appear in court over repeated failures to comply with court orders. Internationally, the Trump administration is reportedly planning to send ICE personnel to the Winter Olympics in Milan, a move sharply criticized by the city's mayor. Separately, families of two Trinidadian men killed during U.S. boat strikes in the Caribbean have filed a lawsuit accusing the administration of extrajudicial killings. On the economic front, health insurance stocks fell after the administration declined to increase Medicare Advantage subsidies, as consumer confidence dropped to a 12-year low. Today's Headlines: The Trump administration is facing growing bipartisan backlash over aggressive ICE enforcement following recent shootings in Minnesota. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the federal government needs to “recalibrate” its approach, while Republican Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Chris Madel dropped out of the race, calling the immigration operation an “unmitigated disaster” and condemning what he described as racial profiling. The criticism has spread beyond Democrats, with the Libertarian Party calling for ICE to be abolished and the Wall Street Journal editorial board urging ICE to pause operations in Minnesota. Amid mounting pressure, the administration demoted Customs and Border Protection official Greg Bovino and reassigned ICE personnel out of Minneapolis, signaling a temporary de-escalation. Border czar Tom Homan has been sent to oversee the situation as Trump publicly emphasized cooperation with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. New reporting raises concerns about ICE activity elsewhere, including allegations that agents in Colorado left so-called “death cards” in vehicles after detentions. Separately, documents reveal ICE is using a Palantir-built surveillance tool to map neighborhoods for immigration raids using data from multiple federal agencies. Internationally, Trump said negotiations with Iran remain “in flux” as the U.S. increases its military presence in the region. Israel confirmed the return of the final hostage's remains, allowing the Gaza ceasefire to move toward its next phase. Trump also announced higher tariffs on South Korean imports, cited the use of a secret weapon in the raid that captured Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro, and commented on allegations that a top Chinese general leaked nuclear secrets to the U.S. Meanwhile, a massive winter storm across 19 states has been linked to at least 22 deaths, with hundreds of thousands still without power. Congress is also racing to avoid a potential government shutdown tied to funding for the Department of Homeland Security and ICE oversight.
