"Our mother was so aware of how important it was for us to treat each other well and she just led with such a loving graceful presence.  She was the quintessential mom. She was just warm and loving and forgiving and nurturing. She taught us to love and be loved," reflects Amy."To be loving and kind to one another" Amy explains, "mom gave me the gift of solice and comfort. She was happy being in the shadows. In big gatherings ...Amy says mom gave her the  gifts of curiosity and independence. She considers herself a late bloomer. Betty was happy that Amy was able to move 3000 miles away on her own terms and create and live your own dreams.Nancy shares a wonderful story of a mother's love for her daughter. Nancy was a punk rocker and was heckled by some local teens, but Betty went full on riot act and defended her daughter and her orange hair. Betty stood up for her daughter. She taught Nancy how to stand up for herself and not let anyone take advantage of you.According to my guests, their mother had a very quiet and kind demeanor yet the Harrington kids had a phrase regarding their mother "don't mess with my chickens."  "What you should do, is....," was one of their mom's familiar phrases for Nancy and her siblings . Their mother had studied to be an art teacher, had children and she was a substitute teacher at her daughter's Catholic school. She taught her children all kinds of things without the help of the internet. It didn't exist back then, but she was a wonderful natural teacher. When Nancy and Amy's parents met, Betty and her family represented everything their father did not have. Their dad, one of nine children lost his mom as a baby and his father, my guest's grandfather, couldn't keep a stable household. My guest's parents were able to pass on the significance of a safe and loving family environment. And their mother became the shield that protected her children from any issues that would arise. The Passionistas Equality Summit happens annually focusing on marginalized women from their community. These women wanted someone who had their b ack. Launched the Passionistas Project Sisterhood in March 2024. Women can come and be themselves and lift themselves up. It's not just business networking, it's personal growth and social impact. Women don't need to show up with a business card and be all buttoned up and pretend everything.Amy says this is a story of a woman who put family before everything including herself. Taught her children how to love one another other and be good stewards in the world. The Harrington house was a place where any and all kids who needed a place where they felt safe were welcome. From the time I was little, we had friends who were gay, different ethnic backgrounds, the kids who's parents worked all night and had no dinner. we learned that  our lives were richer because we knew all these people and their lives were richer because they were accepted, explains Amy.  Our mother was a loving and caring human being, possibly the most loving and caring being you could possibly imagine.  Nancy adds "she was someone who loved unconditionally and she gone too soon."Amy and Nancy feel that the common bond that holds their family together, the driving force in all of their lives was based on creativity.  Both mom and dad were very creative. Had she been born in a different era, she would have been Indiana Jones. She also love the simple things in life including ice cream and cooking. Both my guests agree that their mother encouraged all her children "to dream big and go for it." She wanted her children to be themselves. Betty loved her children for who they were.*Women's Equality Day is Monday, August 25th. News and Updates: Disney will fully integrate Hulu into Disney+ in 2026, creating a single streaming app while still offering standalone subscriptions. Internationally, Hulu will replace the Star brand in fall 2025. Disney expects the merger to cut costs, lower churn, and boost ad sales. Hulu + Live TV will merge with Fubo under a JV but remain separate until its own Disney+ integration in 2026. The move follows Disney's $9B buyout of Comcast's Hulu stake. ESPN and Fox will launch standalone live sports streaming services on Aug. 21, with a joint $39.99/month bundle available Oct. 2, saving subscribers about $10. ESPN's $29.99 plan includes its live channels and WWE coverage, while Fox One's $19.99 plan offers Fox News, Fox Sports, FS1, FS2, and more. Warner Bros. Discovery is also developing a direct-to-consumer TNT Sports streaming product. HHS Secretary Robert F. Critics argue it's a tech industry giveaway with minimal real health impact, costly for consumers, and a distraction from weakening public health infrastructure. CGMs and wearables can help specific patients but offer little benefit to most healthy users. OpenAI launched GPT-5, calling it its “best AI yet” with better reasoning, fewer hallucinations, and stronger coding skills. It's free for all ChatGPT tiers with tier-based usage limits. However, backlash erupted as GPT-4o and other models were removed, with users complaining GPT-5 gives shorter, less personal answers and makes basic mistakes. CEO Sam Altman promised fixes, restored GPT-4o for Plus users, and plans tweaks to model-switching and “thinking mode.”

Episode 308 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're back on the pitch discussing Kenny Dalglish. One of the greatest midfielders in the history of soccer, Kenny Dalglish started his pro career in his homeland of Scotland. Though he grew up a fan of Rangers F.C., he signed with rival Celtic F.C. in 1966 and became one of the Scottish Premier League's best players. After six seasons on the first team, Dalglish signed a then-record contract with Liverpool F.C. in 1978. Dalglish found instant and sustained success in Liverpool and led the team to six league titles, four league cup titles and scored a total of 158 league goals.Dalglish then became a player-coach towards the end of the 1980s and was extremely successful as a coach with Liverpool F.C., Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United.Internationally, Dalglish remains arguably the best player in the Scottish National Team's history on the pitch. Furthermore, his charitable work and presence during the fallout of the Hillsborough Disaster will be remembered forever by soccer fans and non-soccer fans alike.Watch, Subscribe & Comment on All Platforms:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/the-sports-experience-podcast-with-chris-quinn/id1529622054Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1esgBLz04MZYrTgYMk5DvaConnect with us on Instagram!Chris Quinn: https://www.instagram.com/cquinncomedy/Dominic DiTolla: https://www.instagram.com/ditolladominic/Ty Engle:https://www.instagram.com/ty_englestudio/S.E.P.: https://www.instagram.com/thesportsexperiencepodcast/If you enjoy our podcast, please help support us:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-experience-pod/support#sportspodcast#comedypodcast#kennydalglish#liverpoolfc#soccer#englishpremierleague

Nadia Turner was the #8 finalist on the 4th season of American Idol (2005) and Zareh, also know as Za, was only four years old. In the spring of 2022  Zareh, then  21,  auditioned for AI and surprised her mother when she took her to the audition.  Zareh   performed “Bust Out Your Windows” by Jazmine Sullivan, which impressed the judges. It was such a pleasure to have a conversation with both mother and daughter at the same time, to share stories of  Nadia's mom and grandmother as well as  Za's perspective of her mother and grandmother -we're talking about four generations of strong women.Nadia says she's a very different parent today than she was in her 20's and a college student when Za was born. She's very grateful because she always new that her mother was going to be there to help her raised her two daughters.  Zareh  completely understands why her younger sister is being raised differently than she was. Zareh says that her mom was very strict when she was young but now she understands and appreciates why and respects her mother's decisions. It was, at times, overwhelming raising Zareh when Nadia was younger but now she's got a different attitude about raising her younger daughter, she  concentrates on the things that are important, the things that really matter. Rosita, Nadia's mother, originally from the island of St. Eustatius, was a single mom who worked 9-5 at an electric company. "There's never been a time when she didn't show up for me" reflects Nadia. Rosita was very supportive of her daughter, whether it was sports or a school activity, she was always there for her regardless if she truly understood her daughters passions or interests.  "I couldn't have done this thing called motherhood with out my mother, Rose," says Turner.Nadia spent quite a bit of time with her maternal grandmother, Esme, Rosita's mother.  Nadia  remembers her grandmother as "being my Zen, my peace, always very quiet and calm." She continues "she was very religious and always humming her hymns, she never raised her voice and for some reason, that moved mountains for me." When Nadia was a child and she and her mother got into an argument,  Nadia recalls simply sitting quietly next to her grandmother and holding her hand which made everything feel alright. There's so much more to learn about my two guests and the influential women that helped them become who they are today. Always so grateful for the mothers/grandmothers and female family members who preceded us to lay down the groundwork and straightened path to keep us moving forward. When I asked Za if she stands a little taller because of these strong women in her life she responds, "my grandmother and mother are my biggest idols. I look up to them for everything they do. We are a family full of women. My grandmother is present no matter what's going on. I'm so grateful and definitely stand taller."There's so much more to these two magnificent women. This Day in Legal History: Japanese PM Convicted of Accepting BribesOn August 12, 1983, former Japanese Prime Minister Tanaka Kakuei was convicted of accepting bribes from the American defense contractor Lockheed Corporation in one of Japan's most notorious political scandals. Tanaka, who served as prime minister from 1972 to 1974, was found guilty of taking approximately $2 million in illicit payments to facilitate the purchase of Lockheed aircraft by Japanese airlines. The scandal, part of a broader international investigation into Lockheed's bribery of foreign officials, became emblematic of the deep entanglement between corporate influence and political decision-making in postwar Japan.Tanaka's conviction marked the culmination of years of investigation, during which he retained significant political clout despite resigning as prime minister in 1974 amid allegations. His sentence included four years in prison and a fine, though he remained free on appeal for years thereafter. The Lockheed scandal not only damaged public trust in Japan's political establishment but also exposed vulnerabilities in the country's campaign finance and lobbying regulations.Tanaka's political machine, known as the “Etsuzankai,” was legendary for its ability to secure votes and wield influence through personal networks, favors, and targeted public works projects. Even after his resignation and conviction, Tanaka's allies dominated Japanese politics for much of the 1980s, demonstrating the persistence of patronage systems despite corruption scandals.Internationally, the case was a warning shot to defense contractors and multinational corporations about the legal risks of engaging in covert payments to secure contracts. For Japan, it became a touchstone in ongoing debates about transparency, accountability, and the need for stronger anti-corruption laws. Tanaka, often called “the paragon of postwar corruption,” remained a polarizing figure—admired by some for his populist economic policies and condemned by others for his abuse of public office.Federal prosecutors in Maryland have expanded their case against SCOTUSblog co-founder Tom Goldstein, alleging he used his law firm's client trust account in 2021 to hide nearly $1 million from the IRS before purchasing a home. The revised indictment, filed August 8, claims Goldstein moved personal funds into his firm's Interest on Lawyers' Trust Account to avoid tax collection. It also adds details about earlier allegations that he misrepresented the source of $968,000 seized from him in 2018—telling a border officer it was gambling winnings, then later claiming to the IRS it was a loan, including from a foreign gambler.Prosecutors further allege Goldstein misled a litigation funder while seeking help with tax debts and a mortgage, and tried to dissuade a former firm manager from cooperating with investigators. The updated charges correct some dates, moving one alleged diversion of client fees from 2021 to 2020, and expand the time frame for certain tax evasion counts to include conduct through March 2021. These changes follow Goldstein's motion to dismiss several counts as time-barred.While the client trust account allegation is new, no new counts were added. Goldstein still faces four counts of tax evasion, ten counts of assisting false tax returns, five counts of willful failure to pay taxes, and three counts of false statements on loan applications. He is represented by Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in United States v. Goldstein.SCOTUSblog's Goldstein Facing New Allegations in Criminal CaseThe American Bar Association's (ABA) policymaking body has passed a resolution opposing government actions that punish lawyers, firms, or organizations for representing clients or causes the government dislikes. This move comes amid heightened tensions between the ABA and the Trump administration, which has restricted DOJ attorneys from attending ABA events, reduced the ABA's role in vetting judicial nominees, and threatened its authority to accredit law schools. The resolution warns that the rule of law is endangered if lawyers or judges face retaliation for doing their jobs. It also denounces threats to impeach judges solely for their rulings. The ABA has an active lawsuit against the administration, alleging a coordinated campaign of intimidation against major law firms—claims the DOJ has asked a court to dismiss, arguing the ABA lacks standing and evidence of harm.Trump has issued executive orders targeting firms over past clients and hires, prompting some firms to agree to provide nearly $1 billion in free legal services to avoid further action. Others have sued successfully to block orders that revoked security clearances and restricted access to government work. The ABA contends these tactics have discouraged public interest legal work and harmed the ability of vulnerable clients to secure representation.American Bar Association adopts resolution against Trump's law firm crackdown | ReutersTaft, Stettinius & Hollister announced it will merge with Atlanta-based Morris, Manning & Martin on Dec. 31, creating a firm with more than 1,200 lawyers across 25 offices and projected revenues exceeding $1 billion. The deal will add 100 attorneys to Taft's roster and give the Cincinnati-founded firm its first Atlanta office. Taft's chair Robert Hicks described the move as part of a broader plan to become a “national middle-market super firm” and said the firm is eyeing future expansions into New York and Texas.Partners at both firms unanimously approved the merger. Morris Manning's managing partner, Simon Malko, emphasized that the combination was not driven by necessity, despite the firm recently losing lawyers to Reed Smith and Bradley Arant. Merger talks began in February, with both firms anticipating strong performance in 2025.This marks Taft's third merger of the year, following combinations with Denver-based Sherman & Howard in January and Florida litigation firm Mrachek Law in June. It also continues a wave of large law firm consolidations, including recent deals involving McDermott Will & Emery, Schulte Roth & Zabel, Kramer Levin, Herbert Smith Freehills, Shearman & Sterling, and Allen & Overy.Latest US legal industry merger to create $1 billion firm | ReutersThe Congressional Budget Office estimates that President Donald Trump's recently enacted tax and spending law will leave 10 million more Americans uninsured over the next decade. The July law, passed without Democratic support, extends earlier Trump-era tax cuts, adds temporary tax breaks, and increases certain spending, but offsets the cost by imposing new restrictions and eligibility requirements on Medicaid. Democrats criticized the measure as benefiting the wealthy at the expense of low-income households.According to the CBO, the poorest Americans will see annual incomes drop by about $1,200 due to combined tax and benefit changes, while middle-income households will gain $800 to $1,200, and the wealthiest will see increases exceeding $13,000. The agency noted these changes will disproportionately reduce resources for households at the lower end of the income spectrum while boosting those in the middle and upper tiers.10 million Americans will go uninsured due to Trump tax and spend law, CBO estimates | ReutersAnd in my column this week: Washington, DC is close to approving a $4.4 billion public financing package to bring the Washington Commanders back to the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium site, framing it as an investment in affordable housing and equity. Critics argue it's a familiar tax-subsidized stadium deal that guarantees a new stadium by 2030 but leaves housing delivery vague and far in the future. The legislation secures decades of tax breaks, infrastructure bonds, and zoning exemptions for the team, yet affordable housing commitments are relegated to non-binding promises in a separate term sheet. Official projections suggest 6,000 housing units, with 30% affordable, but without enforceable deadlines, construction could lag until 2040—or never materialize.Job creation claims are similarly underwhelming: 16,000 positions are projected, but 14,000 are temporary construction jobs, leaving only about 2,000 permanent roles for the $4.4 billion investment. The land involved—180 acres of public property—could instead be used for community-led development, housing trusts, or co-ops with built-in affordability requirements. Critics note that the public is bearing all the legal obligations while promised benefits remain aspirational. If the housing isn't built, the Commanders would only face paying rent on undeveloped parcels, a minimal penalty. Alternative proposals include redirecting funds currently used to pay off Nationals Park bonds toward a housing bond program, which could deliver thousands of affordable units sooner. Advocates argue any stadium approval should include firm, enforceable housing delivery benchmarks and penalties for missed deadlines to ensure public benefits aren't indefinitely deferred. One notable legal element here is the absence of binding contractual obligations for affordable housing delivery—a gap that leaves the city with limited legal recourse if the housing targets are missed, despite billions in guaranteed public subsidies. This matters because it highlights how legislative structure can predetermine the enforceability—or lack thereof—of development promises.Commanders Stadium Deal's Housing and Job Promises Are a Facade This is a public episode. A top international hydrogen investor says Ireland's wind energy potential makes it an ideal location for growing our energy industry and future power options. Alicia Eastman will be a key speaker at the World Hydrogen Technologies Convention in Dublin this October. Up to 2500 delegates are expected to attend the event, which will be worth up to €4m to the economy. With nearly three decades of experience in investment, strategy, operations, and diplomacy, Alicia Eastman stands at the forefront of global sustainability and energy transition efforts. She is instrumental in developing some of the world's largest green hydrogen and ammonia projects across Australia and the Gulf Cooperation Council. Eastman is pointing to Ireland's export-led economy, strong demographics and specific energy needs as further evidence of a bright future for energy investment here: "The Irish Government's programme for capital investment in energy and infrastructure is well recognised. One of the biggest arguments for investing in a hydrogen project in Ireland is the potential to draw on a fantastic offshore wind resource - it's a wonderful, stable source of energy that can serve the country well. When combined with solar and hydrogen, the capacity factor in Ireland could be quite high, lowering the costs and need for batteries or fossil fuel backup. In addition, Ireland is known for being a positive, welcoming place to establish a business with a highly educated workforce and attractive business support". When it comes to moving away from fossil fuels, Alicia Eastman is committed to an energy optimisation approach: "Nobody is expected to start from zero. My primary focus is energy optimisation, so first, I am interested in any technologies that optimise energy usage, as that's a clear win financially and environmentally. Replacing fossil fuels becomes easier as we can be green and maintain or even reduce the total cost of ownership. This requires evaluating all existing and future energy resources that do not produce greenhouse gases and layering them in as they become technically and economically feasible, such as hydrogen and derivatives." Paul McCormack is CEO of Hydrogen Ireland, which will host WHTC2025. He welcomed Alicia's approach: "We've been highlighting that hydrogen is not a silver bullet for our future energy needs for several years. Its role is as a vital energy vector that will act to maximise the potential and interaction of multiple forms of energy in our future lives. We are building a programme of speakers for the World Hydrogen Technologies Convention this October that will present forward-thinking ideas and solutions in a location that is seen as having a bright and prosperous future in the world of renewables. There is no better place or time to bring these experts to our audience and spark new connections and possibilities in our sector". The World Hydrogen Technologies Convention is one of the best-known conventions in the fields of hydrogen energy and fuel cell technology. Garrett Monaghan, Partner, Pinsent Masons Ireland LLP and Chairperson of Hydrogen Ireland, says this is an exciting time for Ireland to host such a prestigious event: "Internationally, hydrogen has rapidly evolved as an asset class with sharper and realistic focus on use cases, support schemes and project economics. With the volume of projected renewable electricity generation, Ireland can play a particular role in the production and application of hydrogen to existing and new sectors of the Irish and global economy. My colleagues at Hydrogen Ireland, our sponsors, and I are all looking forward to bringing everyone together". WHTC 2025 will take place at the Clayton Hotel Leeson Street from October 21 - 23. Registration is open now, and full details of the event are available at whtc2025.com

Dorothy was the eldest of two children. Her younger brother was well taken care of and able to continue on to higher education, mainly because he was male and in that era, women didn't really pursue higher education because culturally, that wasn't the norm.  Women's place was in the home and raising the children. One of the many things that my guest admired about her mother was that she opened up her own Children's Clothing store. Gertrude loved seeing her mom running a business that she was truly good at and enjoyed. Gertrude loved seeing a different side of her mother's personality, outside the home vs inside the home.Unfortunately, the store only lasted so long because of Gertrude's father's wishes. Yes, he was supportive but only up to a certain point. He also gave Dorothy an ultimatum and Dorothy agreed and made some very difficult choices that very same day and never broke her promise.  The couple did not have a particularly close relationship. Gertrude's dad worked and provided for the family and the two remained married for 27 years. You will hear Gertrude share stories of the secrets her mother kept her entire life. Gertrude is so impressed and bewildered by her mother's ability to keep all of these compelling stories to herself and still be a mother, raise her children, run her own  business and then continue on with another career working as an office secretary for the railroad in Detroit. One of the many wonderful philosophies my guest believes in is that she believes that she chose her mother for "my soul's development."  In other words, she continues, "my soul had reasoning and she was the perfect mother for me. We are together for a reason, admits Dr. Lyons.Gertrude also shares stories of the process of writing her book as well as being brave when coming to choosing the title of her book, etc.About The BookIn Rewrite the Mother Code, Dr. Gertrude Lyons challenges the limiting beliefs and expands the concepts around what it is to be a mother. Through the pages of this book, Lyons blurs the lines that pigeonhole women into limited roles that ultimately disempower them. Rather than operating within a narrow conception of what mothering is, she invites readers to open themselves up to what is possible and see the truth: that all women mother, and that mother energy is accessible to all of us-including men. Rewrite the Mother Code is a celebration of motherhood, bringing spirituality and community back into the experience and empowering women to be what they truly are, the ultimate creators. What it would be like if it was a commonly held tradition for the wise women in our Western culture to support women through the mothering process? What if children were raised by the community and not the isolated responsibility of one or two caregivers? What if all women were united as mothers and gave their full support to each other's mothering choices? Rewrite the Mother Code not only envisions this world of conscious conception, pregnancy, and motherhood, but it also takes the reader into a movement that fulfills the ideals of a matriarchal-led mothering experience. These ideals can open the doors for women to not only take part in the abundance of the world, but also make sure everyone else experiences it. Rewrite the Mother Code explores a world in which mothers feel valued and intrinsically aware that fostering their well-being is the keystone for conscious and harmonious living on earth—a world where there are enough resources for everyone, all life is valued, and decisions are made with everyone's best interests in mind, not just a few. It's a world where mothers are revered for their abilities to create (even ones without their own children, who journey through motherhood in many creative ways), a place where we can tap into our intuition and truly follow it.Rewrite the Mother Code blurs the lines that pigeonhole women into limited roles that ultimately disempower them. Rather than operating with a narrow conception of what mothering is, it invites you to open yourself up to what is possible when you realize that all women mother, and that mother energy is accessible to all of us—including men.In Rewrite the Mother Code, Dr. Gertrude Lyons shares her vast expertise, using her doctoral degree in education, combined with her degrees in psychology, transformational leadership, and her two decades as a coach for families, couples, and individuals. She has traveled the world and had spiritual experiences across the globe, which she brings into her work and writing. Each chapter of Rewrite the Mother Code has thoughtfully tailored reflections, meditations, and rituals to help women get in touch with their innate mother wisdom and strength. This book is a ceremony and celebration of all forms of motherhood, one that collectively births a new revolution of empowered and embodied living.SOCIAL MEDIA LINKSInstagram:LINKEDIN:Gertrude Lyons, MA, EdD, PCCView Gertrude Lyons, MA, EdD, PCC's profileYOUTUBE:https://www.youtube.com/@rewritethemothercodeWEBSITE:DrGertrudeLyons.comGENERAL TOPIC:              Reshaping Mom Myths and Reparenting OurselvesFREE RESOURCE:            Sign up for her mailing list and Order her book  "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers/female role models and the roles they play in our lives. This is the story of a small  Carpatho-Rusyn woman, who became know as Andy Warhol's mother. Ulia Zavacka ( pronounced Zavatski), was one of a very large farming family whose homeland today is in the North Eastern Slovakia. Today the general Rusyn population stretches across what is five European countries, including Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Poland. Officials say that at the turn of the 20th century, approximately 250,000 Ruthenians, as they were known to US Immigration officials, emigrated to America where they worked in coal mines and steel mills of the northeast. Many settled in the Pittsburg. PA area. Rusyns spoke east slavic dialects that used the Cyrillic alphabet. Elaine and I spoke a lot about the similarities of both women. Julia followed her husband to America eventually having three sons and not speaking much English.  Nancy, Elaine's mother, had a huge advantage and was born in the United States and spoke two languages at a young age. Both women had Carpatho-Rusyn backgrounds. It was a tough time to raise a family especially in the Pittsburgh area yet Andy's father was a good business man and was able to put some money away for Andy  to go to college. Elaine shares stories of her mother moving to New York City at age of thirteen in order to help her family financially as a housekeeper/nanny/servant, as you'll hear Elaine tell the story. By moving to NYC, Nancy met her future husband who has a similar background as she. Keep in mind, that making money to help the family put food on the table was way more important than any kind of education.  Nancy eventually married a coal miner from Pennsylvania and fellow Rusyn which was comforting to her. Both of these families had lingering effects of being immigrants and children of immigrants. Of parents parenting similarly as to how they had been parented.  They had a lot to overcome and it can take decades if not generations to assimilate.Elaine's academic studies where shocking to her parents. They couldn't really understand why she continued with higher education because that was very foreign to both of them. And course, Andy went to what's now known as Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and completed a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in 1949.Julia was an artist of her own right. She was very creative especially when she was younger and in her home country. So much of her artistic talent influenced Andy and they worked closely together on projects for many years as she lived in Manhattan with Andy for almost twenty years. Julia was featured in his artistic projects with his coworkers on a regular basis.https://www.warhol.org/andy-warhols-life/ SHLTMM YOUTUBE CHANNEL LINK:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_BmWJpLNvAElaine Rusinko INSTAGRAM: rusinko17 Other Carpatho-Rusyn Related Social Media: FB: Carpatho-Rusyns Everywhere, The Lost Warhols by Karen Bystedt, Carpatho-Rusyn Society, Carpatho-Rusyn Society's Heritage Radio Program, Carpatho-Rusyn Research Center, The Andy Warhol Museum, rusyn.sk/Rusini Slovenska IG: rusinko17, warholfoundation, carpathorusynsociety_, rusynart, carpatho_rusyns_of_pa, thewarholmuseum For more information about Elaine Rusinko and her Book "Andy Warhol's Mother, The Woman Behind the Artist, contact Lesley Rains at "The Pittsburgh University Press Email: LRAINS@upress.pitt.edu  "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers/female role models and the roles they play in our lives. Today's Headlines: Fallout from a Wall Street Journal report revealing a bizarre birthday note allegedly from Donald Trump to Jeffrey Epstein continues, with Trump denying authorship and suing the WSJ, Rupert Murdoch, and others for $10 billion in a defamation suit filed in Judge Aileen Cannon's district. Meanwhile, VP JD Vance quietly visited Murdoch just before the story broke, and the DOJ moved to unseal grand jury records on Epstein as reports suggest Trump's name triggered special review protocols within the FBI. Over in entertainment, CBS abruptly canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert shortly after Colbert slammed parent company Paramount for a Trump-linked $16M “settlement”—timed suspiciously with FCC approval requests for the Paramount–Skydance merger. Congress also voted to slash $1.1 billion in public broadcasting funds, disproportionately affecting rural NPR stations. On immigration, new reporting exposed unacknowledged passengers on deportation flights and the botched deportation of an elderly asylum recipient, now hospitalized in Guatemala after vanishing from ICE custody. Internationally, an Israeli airstrike on a Gaza church killed civilians and earned Netanyahu an apology call to the Pope, frustrating the Trump White House amid fragile ceasefire talks in Syria. And in financial news, the so-called GENIUS Act passed, boosting crypto markets by letting banks treat stablecoins as assets, not liabilities—just in time for “crypto week” on the Hill. Today's Headlines: President Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a vein condition that can cause leg swelling and serious complications—though his doctor insists he's in “excellent” health. Meanwhile, Senate Democrat Ron Wyden revealed that the Trump DOJ has suppressed evidence of over $1.5 billion in Jeffrey Epstein-linked transactions flagged by major banks, some involving Russian accounts and high-profile payments, yet Trump refuses to appoint a special counsel or release more documents. While the Senate GOP blocks further Epstein disclosures, ICE will now access sensitive data from 79 million Medicaid enrollees—despite many immigrants being ineligible for the program—to track down undocumented residents. At the same time, the Trump administration is collecting voter rolls and suing counties for access to personal information in a sweeping push ahead of the 2026 midterms. Internationally, a U.S. military assessment found that recent strikes only severely damaged one of Iran's three nuclear enrichment sites, and U.S. cybersecurity officials report a sharp uptick in Chinese government-backed cyberattacks on American infrastructure and institutions. My guest loved the design work but really missed the one one one interaction with people. After watching her mother struggle in an attempt  to start her own business and fail, Sophee felt so much 'self doubt' that she never thought she'd be capable of  starting her own.  Again, interesting dynamics between the two women often got in the way. Payne feels that her mom likes having people around so they can do things for her that she doesn't necessarily like to do. "She demands a lot from the people closest to her," admits Sophee. "I think of her as a sun, even from a distance I can feel this warmth, she gives direction, but at the same time, the closer you get the more uncomfortably warm you get  and also the more you're kind of forced to evolve around her," reflects Payne.Sophee is comfortable saying what works for her now regarding her relationship with her mom.  It's about "showing my mom compassion, compassion with boundaries." WEBSITE: BEST LIFE COACH COLLECTIVEhttps://bestlifecoachcollective.com/coach/sophee-payne/ WEBSITE:https://www.sopheepayne.com/Hi, I'm sophee.connect with me hereI'm an ICF-accredited, international career coach based in Vancouver, Canada and Seattle who uses positive psychology, ontology, and strength-based analysis to help people identify what they are looking for — and how to find long-term happiness, growth and fulfillment in their professional and personal lives.I have worked with people from Seattle to Shanghai, and my international career counseling practice is multidisciplinary and champions people of all backgrounds. Ever find yourself overthinking a simple text message, spiraling into anxiety, and wondering, “Why do I always do this?” Relationships—whether romantic, platonic, or professional—can trigger our deepest insecurities. But here's the good news: you can break that cycle. And in this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, we're diving deep into how.I chat with Trevor Hanson, a globally recognized coach and therapist who helps people transform anxious attachment into secure, soul-filling relationships. This dude is the real deal. After leaving a corporate career at Tesla, healing from a broken jaw, ending a toxic relationship, and overcoming his own deep insecurities, Trevor followed his passion to help others heal. Now, he teaches people around the world how to break free from the patterns holding them back—using his powerful “TEMPO” framework. In our convo, we get real about self-sabotage, emotional triggers, and those frustrating cycles of conflict we find ourselves stuck in. Trevor explains how childhood trauma and early experiences shape our beliefs about love, worthiness, and connection—and how those beliefs often lead us to repeat the same painful patterns. But most importantly, he shows us how to map those cycles, gain clarity, and change them. Here are a few game-changing nuggets from this episode:Self-sabotage isn't a flaw—it's a signal. It often stems from anxious attachment and unhealed childhood wounds. You can shift from insecurity to confidence by learning your “tempo” cycle: Trigger, Emotion, Meaning, Protection, Outcome.Healing starts by mapping emotional responses before you're in the heat of the moment. That's where clarity is born.Inner child work, visualization, and therapy can help release the old beliefs that keep you stuck.Relationships thrive when both partners take ownership and commit to their growth journey. This episode is a must-listen for anyone tired of the emotional rollercoaster and ready to build healthier, more connected relationships. “If I didn't have the harp, I wouldn't be me.”Internationally renowned harpist Judy Loman remains an active practicer, performer, and teacher at 89 years of age - and still clearly enjoys and loves what she does.So how does one maintain motivation and a sense of joy in making music through life's ups and downs, good and bad practice days, and peak and not-so-peak performances? In this episode, you'll hear the five pieces of advice she would offer to an aspiring harpist (they're applicable to singers and other musicians too), learn how to approach pieces that you might not like, and find out the two things she would do if she had only 20 minutes to practice today.Get the full transcript and watch the video version of the full interview right here:Judy Loman: On the Best Advice For an Aspiring Harpist (or Musician)* * *Have you been feeling a little stuck or stagnant in the practice room? Or has performance anxiety and the gap between practice and performance been a nagging issue that hasn't changed, no matter how well you've prepared for performances, auditions - and even lessons? If you've been wanting to experience more joy in the practice room and play more like yourself on stage, but haven't been quite sure how to make that happen, starting July 22, 2025, I'll be teaching a live, online, accelerated 2-week class on the most essential mental skills and practice strategies that can make a difference in your practicing and performing. We'll meet twice a week via Zoom and work on a series of exercises and techniques in four essential skill areas (effective practice, managing anxiety, focus, and confidence), together as a group. And to make sure the concepts become consistent habits, I'll show you how to gently integrate these new skills into your (or your students') daily practice through bite-sized practice challenges alongside a supportive group of practice buddies from around the world. Over 2000 musicians, educators, and students and learners of all ages have participated in the course to date.
