SHOW 12-18-25 THE SHOW BEGINS IN DOUBTS ABOUT THE POTUS AT YEAR'S END... 1951 BALD EAGLE ALASKA CRUNCH EU SUMMIT DISCUSSES USING FROZEN RUSSIAN ASSETS FOR UKRAINE Colleague Anatol Lieven. The European Union is internally divided over seizing frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine's war effort and reconstruction, a move requiring rule changes that some members resist. While the US proposes using these funds for post-war rebuilding, current plans risk spending the capital on immediate warfare, potentially undermining international financial trust. NUMBER 1 NATO AND EU SEEK DEFENSE FUNDS AMID FEARS OF RUSSIAN AGGRESSION Colleague Anatol Lieven. European nations like Finland are demanding funds to counter perceived Russian threats, despite a lack of historical aggression toward them. Lieven argues that plans to spend billions on tanks are misguided, as the Ukraine war demonstrates that expensive armor is easily destroyed by cheaper drones and defensive lines. NUMBER 2 CALIFORNIA JOB LOSSES AND CHINA'S ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN AMID RETAIL SEASON Colleague Chris Riegel. California's new wage mandates have triggered significant job losses in the fast-food sector, forcing operators to move to lower-tax states. Internationally, while China boasts of leads in AI and EVs, these sectors rely on unsustainable subsidies, masking a deep consumer recession and deflation in the property market. NUMBER 3 SPAIN'S GOVERNMENT MAINTAINS TIES WITH VENEZUELA DESPITE OPPOSITION Colleague Mary Anastasia O'Grady. The Spanish government under Pedro Sanchez maintains ideological and economic alliances with the Maduro regime, prioritizing political agendas over democratic ideals. Opposition figure Cayetana Alvarez de Toledo accuses former Prime Minister Zapatero of acting as an international agent for Maduro, facilitating the dictatorship's survival despite mass migration. NUMBER 4 CHINA'S SURREPTITIOUS SUPPORT KEEPS THE MADURO REGIME AFLOAT Colleague Professor Evan Ellis. China sustains the Maduro regime through loans, surveillance technology, and military equipment while bypassing sanctions to import Venezuelan oil. The state oil company, PDVSA, collapsed due to the purging of technical experts and lack of investment, forcing Venezuela to rely on Iranian engineers to maintain minimal production. NUMBER 5 VENEZUELA'S TRAGIC DECLINE FROM PROSPERITY TO AUTHORITARIANISM Colleague Professor Evan Ellis. Historical imagery reveals Venezuela's transformation from a prosperous, modern nation in the 1950s to a ruined state today. Deep inequality and corruption in the pre-Chavez era alienated the poor, allowing Hugo Chavez to capitalize on their frustration and dismantle the free market system, leading to the current crisis. NUMBER 6 ELECTIONS IN CHILE, PERU, AND HONDURAS SIGNAL REGIONAL SHIFTS Colleague Professor Evan Ellis. In Chile, José Antonio Kast's rise reflects a rejection of progressive policies and crime, favoring order and investment. Meanwhile, Peru faces political fragmentation and violence, Honduras struggles with electoral disputes, and Costa Rica appears poised to elect a pro-US candidate who aims to limit Chinese influence. NUMBER 7 ARGENTINA'S CREDIT RATING RISES AS BRAZIL FACES POLITICAL POLARIZATION Colleague Professor Evan Ellis. S&P upgraded Argentina's credit rating following Javier Milei's austerity measures, which have stabilized the currency and reduced inflation despite social costs. In Brazil, the reduction of Jair Bolsonaro's prison sentence and his son Flavio's candidacy signal a continued, polarized struggle against Lula da Silva's agenda for the 2026 election. NUMBER 8 ROMAN KINGSHIP: FROM CITIZEN SELECTION TO THE IDEAL OF SERVICE Colleague Professor Edward J. Watts. Early Roman kings were selected by citizens based on merit rather than heredity, but figures like Servius Tullius began bypassing this consent. Conversely, Cincinnatus exemplifies the Roman ideal of service; he accepted absolute dictatorial power to save the state during a crisis, then immediately resigned to return to his farm. NUMBER 9 APPIUS CLAUDIUS CAECUS: INFRASTRUCTURE AND POLITICAL GENIUS Colleague Professor Edward J. Watts. Appius Claudius Caecus transformed the Roman censorship office into a power base by building the Appian Way and appointing wealthy Italians to the Senate. As a blind elder statesman, he shamed the Senate into rejecting peace with Pyrrhus, insisting Rome must fight to maintain its dominance and ancestral legacy. NUMBER 10 ROME VS. CARTHAGE: DESTINY, TRAGEDY, AND THE CONSENSUS FOR WAR Colleague Professor Edward J. Watts. The conflict between Rome and Carthage is symbolized by the tragedy of Dido, representing the incompatibility of their powers. Despite Hannibal's devastating victories, the Roman Republic prevailed through a political system that prioritized consensus and collective sacrifice, allowing them to endure immense losses without surrendering. NUMBER 11 THE GRACCHI BROTHERS AND THE RISE OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE IN ROME Colleague Professor Edward J. Watts. The Gracchi brothers introduced political violence to Rome, with Tiberius using populism to revive his career and Gaius acting as a true believer in reform. Their assassinations by the Senate marked a departure from peaceful republican norms, as the elite used violence to protect entrenched economic inequality. NUMBER 12 DISCOVERY OF GIANT RADIO GALAXIES AND SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOLES Colleague Dr. Sabayashi Pal. Astronomers have discovered 53 giant radio galaxies, some 75 times larger than the Milky Way, powered by active supermassive black holes emitting radio jets. These ancient objects offer insights into galactic evolution, contrasting sharply with the Milky Way's smaller, dormant black hole that allows life to exist safely. NUMBER 13 INVESTING IN HUMAN INTELLECT OVER ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Colleague Dr. Sabayashi Pal. Given an unlimited budget, Dr. Pal would prioritize human resource development over new telescopes, proposing a space study institute in Africa to train experts. He argues that while AI is a useful tool, education is essential for humans to interpret data and appreciate the machinery rather than being replaced by it. NUMBER 14 EUROPE SCROUNGES FOR FUNDS AMID RUSSIAN ASSET DISPUTES Colleague Michael Bernstam. The UK threatens to seize proceeds from the sale of Chelsea FC for Ukraine aid, while the EU struggles to finance a $135 billion shortfall for Kyiv. European leaders propose leveraging frozen Russian assets for loans, but financial markets remain skeptical of the EU's ability to guarantee such debt. NUMBER 15 CONGRESSIONAL SPENDING AND THE REVERSE MIDAS TOUCH Colleagues Dave Hebert and Peter Earle. Hebert and Earle argue that Congressional spending exacerbates problems in education and healthcare by subsidizing demand while restricting supply through regulations. They contend politicians prefer "showy" supply-side interventions, like drug busts, over effective policies because the politics of appearing effective outweigh the economics of actual affordability. Ireland Sees Surge in 'Job Hugging' as Professionals Dial Back Job Searches

New data published by LinkedIn has revealed that labour markets across EMEA slackened in October, highlighting the growing competition professionals face to secure a new job. Job seekers are instead countering this trend by reducing their search intensity in favour of "job hugging" - the trend of staying put. In Ireland, job search intensity - the ratio of applications to applicants - fell by -3.9% year-on-year in October, over double the rate of decline in several EMEA-LATAM countries during the month, averaging at -1.5% YoY. Only the United Kingdom (down -9.4% YoY), France (-5.6%), and Germany (-4.4%) recorded higher falls than Ireland. Ireland continues to lead the way on flexible work Hybrid work remains the most popular flexible working option offered by companies in Ireland, with 37.3% of all job postings in October offered as hybrid. Ireland ties with the United Kingdom for the highest availability of hybrid across EMEA, above the average of 30.8% of job postings advertised as hybrid across the region during the same period. Ireland also ranks highly for pure remote positions, placing second in EMEA with 8.2% of all job postings offering the opportunity to work exclusively from home. Ireland ranks second only to the UK (8.6%) and also surpasses the European average (5.3%.) Remote roles remain some of the most in demand jobs, making up 14.7% of job applications in EMEA. Demand in Ireland was higher, with applications for remote jobs making up almost one in five (18.4%) job applications. Green talent more likely to land jobs LinkedIn's Green Skills Report 2025 has also revealed green talent is far more likely to secure a job, getting hired at a global rate of 46.6% above the global hiring rate. Across the world, Energy Management is the fastest-growing green skill category. The proportion of LinkedIn members that added this skill was 17.4% higher in 2025 than in 2024. A spike in AI-driven demand for energy and continued growth in renewable energy supply has led to these skills growing particularly quickly in the Technology, Information and Media and Utilities sectors. Commenting on the data, LinkedIn Ireland Country Manager Cara O'Leary said: "Internationally and in Ireland, we are seeing a trend where more workers are opting to stay in their current roles rather than actively seeking new opportunities. This is down to a more competitive jobs market as companies advertise fewer roles. This is coming through in our data where we have observed a decline in job search intensity, which fell by nearly 4% year-on-year in October. "At the same time, Ireland continues to stand out as a leader in flexible work, with hybrid roles now accounting for more than one-third of all job postings. Remote opportunities also remain highly sought after, with Irish workers applying to them at even higher rates than the European average. Flexibility continues to be a key differentiator for companies seeking to attract and retain the best talent. "Internationally and in Ireland, we're also seeing real momentum around green skills, with talent in this space being hired at rates well above the global average. As demand for sustainability and energy-related expertise accelerates, Irish professionals who invest in these skills will be exceptionally well positioned for the future." See more stories here. India's rural areas are developing at an extraordinary rate, and it poses both challenges and extraordinary opportunities to rethink development at a large scale. Across the OECD, over nine in ten households are now connected to the Internet, but in rural regions connectivity still lags behind, with only about 89% of rural households having even a basic broadband connection. https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/2024/11/oecd-digital-economy-outlook-2024-volume-2_9b2801fc.html India reflects these contrasts in its own way, but the speed of change is remarkable. Over the four years ending in December 2024, internet penetration in rural India surged from 59% to 78%, a jump that outpaced urban growth, which rose from 77% to 90% over the same period. https://telecom.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/industry/indias-rural-subscribers-to-primarily-drive-arpu-growth-in-fy26-crisil/121130745 Recorded live from the OECD Rural Development Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Shayne MacLachlan speaks with Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary to the Government in the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, about how India's fascinating track-record of rural transformation can offer practical lessons to policymakers everywhere.  This is the email Melissa wrote to me after I had asked a little bit about the facts of she and her mother's relationship:Dr. Melissa Bird, "My relationship with my mom was complicated when I was younger. My father committed suicide when I was 6 and it broke my mothers heart. My childhood was chaotic and often violent, and yet my mom loved me the best she could with her shattered heart. I was a rebellious teenager and angry about so many things. It wasn't until 2017 when I was on a retreat in Scotland that I realized that my mom was a broken hearted woman, like so many of us who have had our lives shattered when our partners break our hearts. My mom's loving and compassionate soul is why I am the woman I have become today. Rather than seeing her as weak, as I did when I was younger, I realize that my mom is strong and powerful. She has shown me that even through the largest of heartbreaks, one can still carry on and make one's way in the world. I am the leader I am today because my mom always supported my crazy ideas, my drive to succeed, and even when I tried to push her away, my mom never gave up on loving me. CannCon and Chris Paul close out the week by breaking down a sprawling news cycle that exposes the growing tension between federal authority, activist judges, and collapsing global narratives. They start with DHS touting thousands of illegal-alien arrests in Los Angeles before a federal judge moves to block Trump's National Guard deployment, sparking a deeper discussion on constitutional authority, invasion definitions, and state defiance. The conversation moves through Supreme Court battles over the administrative state, birthright citizenship, and the broader implications of courts prioritizing “practical concerns” over constitutional law. Internationally, they dissect Venezuela's escalating drama, Maria Corina Machado's controversial escape to Norway, accusations of NGO-driven human trafficking, and the long-running CIA entanglements in Latin America. The hosts also connect NATO's renewed World War rhetoric, Ukraine's nuclear-risk allegations, renewed biolab scrutiny, vaccine narrative reversals, and Trump's moves on marijuana policy into one overarching theme: the old information spell is breaking. A dense, high-signal episode tying lawfare, geopolitics, propaganda, and power into a single, unraveling thread.

We are live from the Bleed Los Podcast as Drea, Anthony and Cody get you ready for the start of the Winter Meetings. The Dodgers enter the week with major decisions ahead and we break down what the team needs and what we want to see happen. We react to the Hall of Fame results where Jeff Kent finally gets in, but Fernando Valenzuela is left out again. He will not be eligible again until 2031 and Dodgers fans are frustrated. We discuss why Fernando continues to be overlooked. Teoscar Hernandez's name keeps popping up in trade conversations. Reporters Fabian Ardaya, Katie Woo and Bob Nightingale have all mentioned him. Does a trade make sense? Would the Dodgers really do it? If so, who replaces him? We also react to Dave Roberts saying Teoscar is the everyday right fielder “right now” and Brandon Gomes pushing back on the rumors. Free agent notes: The Dodgers likely aren't favorites for Cody Bellinger, Edwin Diaz or Kyle Tucker. Instead they prefer Harrison Bader and Robert Suarez. Smart moves or settling? We give our thoughts. Internationally, we discuss the biggest storyline of them all: Shohei Ohtani's role with Team Japan at the World Baseball Classic. Will he play? Will he pitch? What does this mean for the Dodgers heading into 2026? We react to Dave Roberts' comments and what they signal. Roki Sasaki's appearance on Japan's preliminary WBC roster adds even more intrigue, and we break down what that might look like for him. Plus, we share our conversation with Tommy Edman from this weekend's meet and greet. I CAN ONLY TRY TO IMAGINE THE SHOCK AND SURPRISE THAT DR. DALEO'S PARENT'S FELT WHEN THEIR DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL DECLARED HER "MENTALLY RETARDED" BASED ON TEST RESULTS FROM RECENT TESTS. THANK GOODNESS HER MOM AND DAD HAD THE WHERE WITH ALL, FINANCIAL ABILITY AND GOOD COMMON SENSE TO HAVE HER TESTED BY A PROFESSIONAL. DR. ROXIE WAS THEN OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSED AS BEING DYSLEXIC. ACCORDING TO THE OXFORD LANGUAGES DICTIONARY, THIS IS THEIR DEFINITION OF DYSLEXIA-"a condition of neurodevelopmental origin that mainly affects the ease with which a person reads, writes, and spells, typically recognized as a specific learning disorder in children."  DR. ROXIE EXPLAINS HOW "THIS EVENT CAUSED SO MUCH ANXIETY. IF NOT FOR MY MOTHER AND FATHER, ROXANNE WOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN A SPECIAL SCHOOL OR WORSE, SHE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN LOST IN THE SHUFFLE. WITH AN INCREDIBLE WILL TO LEARN AND HER PARENTS ENCOURAGEMENT, "THEY HELPED THEIR DAUGHTER GROW WITH A COMMITMENT  NOT ONLY FOR SELF DISCOVERY BUT ALSO USE OF HER OWN AGENCY." THEY TAUGHT THEIR DAUGHTER TO USE MENTAL SKILLS OF VISIONING AND TAUGHT HER HOW TO ACHIEVE HER GOALS IN LIFE."SHE WAS COMPLETELY PRESENT TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF US," REFERRING TO HERSELF AND HER TWO SIBLINGS. "SHE KNEW TO TAKE US ONE ON ONE AND NOT TOGETHER," DR ROXIE EXPLAINS. HER MOM CALLED IT "LOVING TIME."THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO THIS STORY. ANNE, MY GUEST'S MOTHER ALLOWED HER DAUGHTER TO EXPERIENCE LIFE WITH HER EDUCATIONAL STRUGGLES, YET ALL THE LESSONS HER MOTHER TAUGHT HER, DR. DALEO IS NOW HELPING MANY MANY CHILDREN EXPERIENCING SIMILAR LEARNING DIFFICULTIES. DR. DALEO HAD A VERY LOVING AND POWERFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH HER MOTHER. ANN WAS AN ARTIST, A SEAMSTRESS AND A WONDERFUL TEACHER. ANOTHER ONE OF HER FAVORITE SAYINGS WAS " A THING DONE BY HALF IS NEVER DONE RIGHT.  FINISH WHAT YOU START WITH ALL OF YOUR MIGHT."ROXANNE AND I DISCUSS  ALTERNATIVE PRACTICES AND TECHNIQUES FOR LEARNING AND FINDING BALANCE IN LIFE FOR CHILDREN, INCLUDING MEDITATION, VISUALIZATION, ETC.THERE IS SO MUCH MORE RELATABLE INFORMATION TO THIS STORY. A MOTHER WHO WAS ABLE TO STAY HOME AND CARVE OUT ONE-ON-ONE TIME WITH HER DAUGHTERS. AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM DR DALEO IS "THAT IF YOU FAIL AT SOMETHING AND TRY AGAIN, IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD ABANDON IT. THIS SENSE OF FORTITUDE AND STICK-TO-ITIVENESS IS A LOST ART."NOTES FROM DR. DALEO PhD:I help children and parents reduce anxiety naturally using expressive arts, mind-body tools, and evidence-based stress-reduction practices. As a Harvard-trained specialist with over 25 years of experience, my work bridges psychology, expressive arts, and integrative wellness. My approach blends neuroscience, storytelling, imagery, and somatic practices to help children feel safe, seen, and empowered.I work with:• Parents seeking natural strategies for anxious children• Educators, counselors, and child-focused practitioners• Organizations committed to child mental health + wellness• Families looking for expressive arts–based tools to thriveIf you're dedicated to the wellbeing of children and want to integrate mind-body practices into daily life, you'll love this episode! Hummingbird youtube video for kids:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBmtpqqp63EThe most common reaction to the good things that happen in life is to try to hold on, hold on tighter, making every effort to have that good stay and wall out the bad stuff.Try as we may, we don't want anything bad to happen to us -whatever “bad” is! And-if that bad thing does happen, we'll say:”This is a very bad, horrible, terrible thing!”Rather than, suspending judgement and saying to yourself: “This is interesting...could be bad, could be good.” In this video, you learn how to have a soft touch to all emotions in your life. He urges listeners to prepare practically and to build community ties in the face of severe weather. The episode then dives into immigration and domestic security concerns, including a short clip of Secretary Noem on alleged visa fraud linked to Somali immigrants in Minnesota. The host reviews claims about welfare dependency, alleged visa fraud rates, and money-laundering concerns while criticizing local leadership. He also discusses explosive allegations raised in the broadcast about Representative Ilhan Omar, framed as issues the host believes deserve scrutiny. Turning to law enforcement and intelligence, the show plays a clip from Kash Patel defending recent FBI results and highlighting arrests, child recoveries, counter‑intelligence wins and fentanyl interdictions. The host praises some operational outcomes but expresses frustration that, despite years of alleged corruption, there have been few high‑profile prosecutions or "perp walks." He questions timing and accountability while weighing anonymous-source journalism versus measurable results. On the economy the program covers optimistic fiscal claims: projected large tariff-funded tax refunds, talk of lowering or eliminating income tax, and a new initiative to seed investment accounts for children (including a multi‑billion pledge from private industry). The host calls the child‑savings idea promising while contrasting it with what he sees as worrying Canadian fiscal decisions. Internationally the episode critiques Canadian policy moves (a major pension fund investment overseas, proposed hate‑speech legislation, and defense commitments) and plays clips from NATO leadership and a Treasury official about increased European pledges to buy U.S. military equipment. The host interprets higher NATO spending as a U.S. arms windfall and argues many Western economies are being strained by sustained war support, while also suggesting Ukraine has become a financial laundromat tied to wider geopolitical interests. Venezuela, drugs and the use of military force are also discussed: the host highlights presidential comments telegraphing strikes on drug networks and extractive facilities, and warns that war — or other extreme measures — remains a real risk as global tension escalates. He frames these developments in a larger narrative about a battle between "dark and light," technocratic control, and the potential for large‑scale destabilizing events. Near the end of the episode the host announces a temporary shift in production: he will scale back video (Rumble) shows to focus on long‑running projects, continue regular Podbean episodes when possible, and promises occasional spot updates. He invites listeners to a nightly prayer meeting on Telegram, asks for support in spreading the show, and closes with a personal exhortation to love God and neighbors and to strengthen local community ties. This episode mixes news clips, political commentary and personal updates. Listeners can expect passionate opinion, clip‑based analysis (including voices from Secretary Noem, Kash Patel and NATO/treasury officials), broad international and domestic policy discussion, and practical calls for community preparedness and faith‑based action. My guest wrote to me saying "even as a child , my mother had me researching at the library and writing essays on various topics! I went on to pursue higher education and become a teacher, and after retiring from a successful and rewarding career, I went on to write an award winning spiritual fiction and a prominently endorsed 5-book series (in addition to contributing to numerous anthology books."  Dr. Foderaro continues, "I am passionate about handling life's challenges with goodness, compassion, honesty and love. I talk about surviving Family Trauma which initially led to being open to the Universe's signs and synchronicities, and then eventually led to my writing to heal and becoming an author. From a young age, Marni's mother, Elizabeth Ann, taught her daughter many lessons. Often these recurring lessons were meant to instill creativity, discipline and motivation, all skills that Marni says were helpful when becoming a teacher. For example, Marni shares the story of when she was a child and wanted her first ten speed bicycle and many more.  Her mother was steadfast and had specific reasoning as to how Marni could get that bike. You'll have to listen to the show to get all the details. Just so you know, both  Marni and her mother were writers and teachers."My mother was a lover of words and extremely witty and intelligent. She grew up in Florida and North Carolina. She got her   Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in an era and area of the United States  which typically  was unheard of for women, continues Marni. Before completing her Masters, Elizabeth Ann was a high school English teacher in Broward Co., Florida and went on to teach English at Stetson University at DeLand, Florida." Marni is convinced that her mom had tremendous family support and encouragement as a young lady, otherwise "there's no way she could have achieved all that she did" reflects Dr. Foderaro.Marni has many wonderful stories to share about her mother and how she encouraged and supported her as a child and how her mother still influences her today. " I know my mom was a huge part of who I am."Foderaro admits that her upbringing was unconventional compared to her peers. It was the 60's and she and her two younger brothers had plenty of freedom. The kids were often on their own, left to raise themselves, yet plenty of time to be creative. Her father was a college professor. "The freedom had pros and cons", says Foderaro, "I didn't get guidance for many things, it was bittersweet. I was often striving for structure and discipline and I grew up being very organized which helped me with my teaching career." More from Marni's Bio:Marni's life was forever changed after experiencing numerous trauma-induced STEs-Spiritually Transformative Encounters. Marni's 2020 Best Books Award Winning Spiritual fiction “God Came to My Garage Sale” is prominently endorsed by James Redfield, best selling author of “The Celestine Prophecy” series of books and founding directors of IANDS (International Association for Near Death Studies). Marni's latest prominently endorsed 5-book series is entitled: “True Deceit False Love” addresses Domestic Violence, Narcissistic Abuse, Parental Alienation and Intergenerational Family Trauma.Marni is a lover of animals, nature, music and world travel who handles life's challenges with love and compassion. She values honesty, integrity, equality and goodness and prays for peace on earth. In addition to her speaking engagements and various writing endeavors, Foderaro is a contributing author to numerous anthology books, including: “The Last Breath,” “The Evolution of Echo,” “We're All In This Together: Embrace One Another,” “The Ulti-MUTT Book for Dog Lovers” and “bLU Talks Presents” (Business, Life and the Universe.) In January 2022 Marni was inducted into the Bestselling Authors International Organization. The week ending November 30, 2025, was characterized as a "wacky races kind of week," with constant shifts in the perceived leadership of the AI sector. Google was highlighted as the biggest weekly winner, seeing a rise in stock, positive reviews for Gemini, and developing its own chip that critics suggest has pierced NVIDIA's "aura of invulnerability". Other models, including Anthropic's Opus 4.5 and ChatGPT 5.1 Codex-Max, were also noted as big deals in the accelerating innovation cycle. Internationally, China reportedly "leapfrogged the U.S. in global markets for open AI models".Despite individual corporate victories, the discussion emphasized that the AI development is an "endless and accelerating innovation cycle" with no "finish line," making the media framing of a "race" misleading. Key tensions include the fact that corporations are not embracing AI as much as expected due to the innovator's dilemma and general climate uncertainty. Furthermore, AI appears to be "winning the copyright fight", while venture capital is experiencing massive concentration into fewer funds and companies, creating a significant liquidity trap. The overarching theme suggests that the AI boom represents a new industrial stack, not a software bubble, making the ultimate outcome dependent on managing the three Cs: Capabilities, Capital, and Civics This is a public episode. Send us a textIn this episode of Leave Your Mark, I'm honoured to welcome one of the most iconic defenders in NHL history — Zdeno Chara.Zdeno, born in Slovakia, played 24 seasons in the National Hockey League with the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, and Washington Capitals. Standing at 6'9", “Big Zee” is the tallest player ever to compete in the league — but his impact stretched far beyond physical stature. As Captain of the Boston Bruins for 14 seasons, Zdeno led with humility, discipline, and purpose. He won the Norris Trophy in 2009, appeared in three Stanley Cup Finals, and raised the Cup in 2011 — becoming one of only five European-born captains to ever do so. Over 1,600 NHL games, he built a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and a relentless work ethic.Internationally, he represented Slovakia with pride, earning two silver medals at the World Championships. In 2022, he retired as a Boston Bruin and will have his number, 33, raised to the rafters in January 2026. Most recently, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.Beyond the accolades, Zdeno is a devoted husband to Tatiana and a father to three young children — and in this conversation, he opens up about leadership, resilience, growth, family, and what it means to evolve beyond the game. This is a special one. BEFORE TURNING TWENTY, MY GUEST EXPERIENCED AND INDULGED IN MORE IN THE LA AREA, THAN MOST  PEOPLE IN A LIFETIME. MUSICIAN, CREATIVE, STORYTELLER AND WRITER, JENNIFER FINCH, WAS REMOVED FROM HER ADOPTIVE MOTHER'S HOME AT 11 YEARS OLD. SHE BECAME ASTUTE AT RUNNING AWAY FROM HOME BY THE AGE OF 13. AND AT 14, SHE GOT INTO DRUGS AND PUNK ROCK. SHE ADORED HER MOTHER WHO STRUGGLED WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUESAND JENNIFER SAYS “IT WAS A TIME WHEN WOMEN WERE PUNISHED FOR EXPLORING OTHER WAYS TO LIVE THEIR LIVES OUTSIDE OF THE NORM.” JENNIFER FINCH IS THE BASS PLAYER AND VOCALIST IN THE SEMINAL PUNK BAND “L7.”    L7 MADE THEIR TELEVISION NETWORK DEBUT ON THE DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW IN 1992, THEY  HIT THE TOP 10 MUSIC CHART IN THE SAME YEAR. OCTOBER 2, 2025, L7 CELEBRATED THEIR 40TH ANNIVERSARY AT THE BELASCO THEATRE IN LOS ANGELES. TODAY, WITH DECADES OF LIFE EXPERIENCE UNDER HER BELT,JENNIFER LOVES EXPLORING BIG IDEAS, RECOVERY, HOW TO MAKE CHANGE IN THE WORLD, SELF DEVELOPMENT,ART, SPIRITUALITY AND MORE. It's was such a pleasure meeting Jennifer. She"s real and down to earth. She's experienced a lot of life, especially at a young age and today she can look back with acceptance and wise reflection. My guest was born at the Salvation Army center for Unwed Mothers in Los Angeles. As an adoptee, she has a wonderful perspective on family. She shares "family is built on love and not necessarily anything else." She spent a lot of time as a small baby and young child with other adopted children. Her parents told her that "some babies come from mommy's tummies and some do not. Family is family." Being adopted doesn't define Jennifer. Her parents split up after seven years. Her mother was experiencing mental wellness issues, social pressure issues and Jennifer was exposed to extreme behavior. Eventually, Jennifer did find her biological mother and her half sisters. "Curiosity, being open minded and humble" are Jennifer's super powers. "Sandy's resentment," Jennifer believes, "actually helped me to become more and have more acceptance and meet people where they're at instead of forcing narratives of how they should behave."Sandy gave Jennifer many gifts, including the gift of understanding, compassion, the gift of wonderment, life is nuanced and that life isn't always convenient." Throughout her childhood/life she learned the importance of how to maintain friendships and the significance of showing up for other people.Jennifer has been sober for thirty five years. FACEBOOK:https://www.facebook.com/jenniferpreciousfinch/INSTAGRAM: @jenniferfinchTHREADS: @jenniferfinchLINKEDIN:https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenniferfinch/X: @jennifinchBLUESKY: @jenniferfinchOTHER:TIKTOK: privateWEBSITE:www.jenniferfinch.comSUBSTACK:https://substack.com/@jenniferfinch?utm_source=explore_sidebar  "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers/female role models and the roles they play in our lives. n this episode, we kick things off by celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Boondocks and revisiting its cultural impact-from its sharp satire to how its themes still hit today. We then slide into nostalgia with Rap City memories before imagining a blockbuster Verzuz: Cash Money vs. No Limit and what that matchup would mean for hip-hop heads. We shift to major music milestones, including Outkast and Salt-N-Pepa entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and break down this year's Grammy nominations. There's also big news in the streets: Max B is finally free. In entertainment, we discuss the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic and what audiences should expect. From there, the conversation turns serious: Are celebrities increasingly tone-deaf to real economic struggles? We dive into the reality everyday people face-SNAP benefits paused, travel disruptions, and an economy where survival feels like "kill or be killed." We also touch on the wild story of the $500,000 Navy Federal robbery making headlines. Internationally, China makes waves by requiring influencers to have a degree before discussing serious topics, raising questions about access to information and who gets to shape public discourse. We close with a deep dive into modern focus and digital overwhelm—/s our attention span permanently damaged? What caused this, and is a reset still possible?

Internationally, there is often a large gap in the resources between countries. The Catechism explains the justice and solidarity that should exist among all nations, rich and poor. Rich nations have a duty of solidarity, charity, and justice to support nations who are unable to fully ensure their own development. Fr. Mike emphasizes that direct aid is not all the Church advocates for, but that we also have a duty to help reform these nations. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2437-2442. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. This is the story of a brave and hard working veteran who had to overcome sorrow, pain and life's hard knocks since he was four years old. Yet he was determined to find a way to a path of balance and clarity in life. Rob mentioned that by the time he was a teen, he felt that he'd rather die overseas than stay living with his father and stepmother. Rob served his country for seven years. After attempting to take his life and being assaulted by a senior officer, he decided that it was time to retire. Insomnia was chronic and conventional treatments weren't helping with Rob's mental health issues  Rob decided to head to Asia and more or less loose himself in the culture, nature and face his demons. He explains, "Instead of waiting, I set out on a journey that changed everything.I lived with tribes in the jungles of the Philippines, spent three months as the disciple of a Hindu monk in the Himalayas, trained under a Shaolin master in China, and later joined a troop of spear fishermen in Boracay who hunted in the deep daily to feed their community during the pandemic. The lessons I gathered became the foundation of my book "Unfiltered Wisdom," a raw look at resilience, self-discovery, and mental health from the inside out." His book, "Unfiltered Wisdom," is the result of re-examining himself, his pain, sorrow, sickness and anger. Rob's first contact with me was this email:"I lost my mother when I was four years old on Christmas Eve in 1987 so I didn't really have much of a relationship with her throughout my life because she was gone. However, my father remarried, and I had a stepmother. We had a very complicated relationship, but she did really help my dad get himself back in order and gave us a way better life than my siblings before he had so I'm definitely grateful for her efforts and sacrifice in that regard.I'm interested in talking about my mom but again I don't really know too much about my real mother other than stories that I was told. My stepmother was the only mother that I knew and I'm comfortable to talk about her, but our relationship was very mixed with a lot of love, but I also experienced quite a bit of abuse so I have mixed emotions about it. It might make a good content to expose and talk about the idea of men having a mother wound. This typically drives them to be adverse to committed relationships and to be overly promiscuous because they don't want the risk of being vulnerable with a woman due to their unhealed mother issues.TURN YOURSELF AROUND FROM BEING A VICTIM AND A PLACE OF WOUNDS AND TURNING IT INTO WISDOM, DEVELOPMENT, HOPE AND PEACE AND ACTUALLY BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE."Rob shared so much with me including his journey throughout Asia, he shared "I lived with tribes in the jungles of the Philippines, spent three months as the disciple of a Hindu monk in the Himalayas, trained under a Shaolin master in China, and later joined a troop of spear fishermen in Boracay who hunted in the deep daily to feed their community during the pandemic."The lessons I gathered became the foundation of my book Unfiltered Wisdom, a raw look at resilience, self-discovery, and mental health from the inside out.https://unfiltered-wisdom.com/the-book/ I admire Rob tremendously for all the work her's done to bring himself inner peace. It's an important lesson, that sometimes following conventional protocol for healing isn't beneficial to all. It's clear that bravery and desperation help us face our illnesses/issues but honesty is the most important thing-being honest with yourself and allow others to help.Social Media Links / Website:            •           Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/robert.greene.799034            •           Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/un_filtered_wisdom/            •           LinkedIn:https://id.linkedin.com/in/unfilteredwisdom            •           Website:www.unfiltered-wisdom.com "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers/female role models and the roles they play in our lives. The released prisoners, including potential Hamas leaders, raise concerns about where the organization's center of gravity will shift if they are deported to places like Turkey or Qatar. Schanzer views Turkey, an autocratic supporter of Hamas, as a problematic guarantor of the ceasefire. Internationally, Iran continues its nuclear program despite snapback sanctions, and al-Sharaa is meeting with Putin regarding Russian assets in Syria.

These changes allow individuals earning over 400% of the federal poverty line to receive subsidies and provide 100% coverage for the near-poor. The original Obamacare cross-subsidy structure failed because young, healthy individuals found premiums too high. Toth advocates deregulation, such as allowing insurance companies to charge lower, risk-adjusted rates and enabling single business owners to use Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs) for cheaper coverage. 915-930 HEADLINE: Obamacare Subsidies Trigger Government Shutdown Debate GUEST NAME: Michael Toth SUMMARY: Michael Toth explains that the current government shutdown debate centers on extending two expensive Biden-era Obamacare subsidies. SECOND HOUR 10-1015 HEADLINE: China's Predicament in the Middle East and Domestic Economic Instability GUEST NAME: General Blaine Holt SUMMARY: General Blaine Holt analyzes China's strategic challenges, noting Beijing is concerned about losing access to critical oil and gas resources as US leadership advances the Abraham Accords. China's previous regional deals, like the Saudi-Iran agreement, lacked substance compared to US business commitments. Holt suggests internal pressures might lead Iran toward the Accords. Domestically, China faces accelerating deflation and uncertainty regarding Xi Jinping's leadership due to four competing factions before the fourth plenum. 1015-1030 HEADLINE: South Korea's Descent into Authoritarianism and Persecution of Opposition GUEST NAME: Morse Tan SUMMARY: Morse Tan argues that South Korea is moving toward a "rising communist dictatorship" that oppresses political and religious figures. The indictment of the Unification Church leader and the targeting of the rightful President Yoon exemplify this trend. This persecution serves as an intimidation campaign, demonstrating the regime's disregard for the populace. Tan recommends the US implement active measures, including sanctions relating to a coup d'état and visa sanctions, while also pressing for greater military cooperation. 1030-1045 HEADLINE: Russian War Economy Stalls as Oil Prices Decline and Sanctions Bite GUEST NAME: Michael Bernstam SUMMARY: Michael Bernstam reports that the Russian economy is struggling as global oil prices decline and sanctions increase transportation costs, leading to a $13 to $14 per barrel discount on Russian oil. The "military Keynesianism" economy is exhausted, resulting in staff cuts across industrial sectors. Forecasts indicate contraction in late 2025 and 2026, with the IMF lowering its growth projection for 2025 to 0.6%. Russia is avoiding sanctions by routing payments through neighbors like Kyrgyzstan, who have become major financial hubs. 1045-1100 HEADLINE: Lessons from the Swiss National Bank: Risk-Taking, Exchange Rates, and Fiscal Responsibility GUEST NAME: John Cochrane SUMMARY: Economist John Cochrane analyzes the Swiss National Bank (SNB), noting it differs greatly from the US Federal Reserve by investing heavily in foreign stocks and bonds to manage the Swiss franc's exchange rate. The SNB's massive balance sheet carries risks accepted by Swiss taxpayers and the Cantons. Switzerland, being fiscally responsible (running no budget deficits), finds central banking easier. Cochrane advises that the US Fed should not be buying stocks or venturing into fiscal policy. THIRD HOUR 1100-1115 HEADLINE: China Retaliates Against Dutch Chipmaker Seizure Amid European Fragmentation GUEST NAME:Theresa Fallon SUMMARY: Theresa Fallon discusses China imposing export controls on Nexperia after the Dutch government seized control of the chipmaker, which was owned by China's Wingtech. The Dutch acted due to fears the Chinese owner would strip the technology and equipment, despite Nexperia producing low-quality chips for cars. Fallon notes Europe needs a better chip policy but struggles to speak with one voice, as fragmented policy allows China to drive wedges and weaken the EU. 1115-1130 HEADLINE: China's Economic Slowdown, Deflation, and the Spectre of Japanification GUEST NAME: Andrew Collier SUMMARY: Andrew Collier discusses China's economic woes, characterized by persistent deflation, with the CPI down 0.3% (6 out of 9 months in the red) and the PPI down for 36 straight months. This environment raises concerns about "Japanification"—a multi-decade slowdown after a property crash. Major structural changes to stimulate consumer consumption are unlikely at the upcoming Communist Party plenum, as the system favors state investment. The property market collapse means foreign investment is leaving, and Collier suggests the economy may not bottom until 2027 or 2028. 1130-1145 HEADLINE: SpaceX Starship Success, Private Space Dominance, and Government Inaction GUEST NAME: Bob Zimmerman SUMMARY: Bob Zimmerman describes SpaceX's Starship Super Heavy 11th test flight as "remarkable," highlighting successful booster reuse and controlled re-entry despite missing tiles. He asserts that private enterprise, like SpaceX, runs the "real American space program" aimed at Mars colonization, outpacing government efforts. In contrast, European projects like Callisto, proposed in 2015, demonstrate government "inaction." JPL is also laying off staff following the cancellation of the Mars sample return project, forcing organizations like Lowell Observatory to seek private funding. 1145-1200 HEADLINE: SpaceX Starship Success, Private Space Dominance, and Government Inaction GUEST NAME: Bob Zimmerman SUMMARY: Bob Zimmerman describes SpaceX's Starship Super Heavy 11th test flight as "remarkable," highlighting successful booster reuse and controlled re-entry despite missing tiles. FOURTH HOUR 12-1215 HEADLINE: Commodity Market Trends and UK's Lack of Risk Appetite for AI Innovation GUEST NAME: Simon Constable SUMMARY: Simon Constable notes that data center expansion for AI is increasing prices for copper (up 15%) and steel (up 14%). He points out that the UK lags significantly behind the US in building new AI data centers (170 vs. 5,000+) due to a lack of risk appetite, insufficient wealth, and poor marketing of new ideas. Separately, Constable discusses the collapse of a UK China spying trial because the prior government failed to officially classify China as a national security threat during the alleged offenses. 1215-1230 HEADLINE: Commodity Market Trends and UK's Lack of Risk Appetite for AI Innovation GUEST NAME: Simon Constable SUMMARY: Simon Constable notes that data center expansion for AI is increasing prices for copper (up 15%) and steel (up 14%). He notes that bills like California's AB 1047, which demands factual accuracy, fundamentally misunderstand AI's generative nature. Imposing vague standards, as seen in New York's RAISE Act, risks chilling innovation and preventing widespread benefits, like affordable legal or therapy tools.
