Should I support businesses that celebrate and promote Pride month? Website Instagram Facebook
When we manage to form friendships with other same-sex attracted believers, how do we develop healthy relationships with boundaries and safeguards? In this episode I'll discuss the importance of establishing nurturing friendships and relationships with heterosexual and homosexual people, how both kinds of friendships are beneficial, and how we can practically ensure we are glorifying God with the people around us. In our digital age with so much information constantly at our fingertips, it is unavoidable that we will encounter much disinformation. This is especially true when it comes to the many teachings we see and hear concerning God's Word. How can we distinguish between truth and lies? What do we believe when it comes to quotes we encounter such as "You are enough" and "Walk away from toxic people?" I discuss what I believe the Bible teaches about these things and more in this episode. Website Instagram Facebook
In this episode I discuss a topic submitted by a listener, and I think healing/restoration happens in the Church when 3 main things take place: 1. Loving 2. Serving 3. Including When these 3 things are practiced well in a healthy, Biblical, and doctrinally-strong Church, I believe SSA individuals will start to find the healing and restoration that they need. In this episode I am discussing the very deep and personal lyrics of SUN GOES DOWN, a song by the rapper and hip-hop artist Lil Nas X. He has made many headlines and gained much popularity over the last 2-3 years, upsetting many churches and Christians across the U.S. But when we take a look at the lyrics of this particular song, we might discover what is true for so many people around us... that people are hurting and need a Savior more than ever before! We can all agree that the presence of LGBT characters and representation in film & television is very common in our culture today, but how should we as Christians respond to this? What does the Bible teach us about such things? If we experience SSA ourselves, is it helpful for us to consume any amount of LGBT content? If so, how much? Are we comfortable with viewing other portrayals of sinful activity in entertainment as long as it doesn't include homosexuality? Give this episode a listen to find out my thoughts and how I think God gives us instruction in His Word. Don't forget to subscribe and check out the links below! Website Facebook Instagram
In this episode I am joined by the lovely Mrs. Cochran, my wife Courtney, and together we discuss several aspects of dating and marriage (generally and specific to SSA experiences).
Episode 12 is all about discussing insecurities and how often they can trip us up and prevent us from serving Jesus to our fullest potential. Insecurities usually are either a result of our own fallen nature or of the fallen world around us, but Jesus can help us overcome them!
In this episode I take some time to discuss some topics & questions submitted by you, the listeners! These include: "Inviting Family into Your Story" "Engaging the Church with Your Story" "How do you plan to share your story with your kids?"
We are back with another episode, and this week I am joined by my good friend Jacob Moreland on a discussion about pornography. We discuss the unfortunate role it has played in our lives and the difficulties it presents for present-day Christians, whether single or married. The statistics about the pervasiveness of pornography in our culture are truly sad and upsetting, however we can find hope in Christ and in the knowledge that He is greater and more powerful than any stronghold that porn or masturbation can have on the believer. Jake and I share some practical steps we have taken and that we recommend for others to take in order to fight against lust, pornography, and masturbation in our lives. In this episode I am so thrilled and honored to have my first guest, Adonis Bemish, join me and share his incredible testimony! Raised in the church, Adonis secretly struggled with same-sex attraction for many years, eventually falling into a promiscuous lifestyle filled with hookups, drugs, and alcohol, until one day God presented him with a choice - to continue down the weary road of sin and disappointment or to return to the Way, Truth, & Life. A few years later and now Adonis is spreading the love of Christ through his personal testimony on social media, in churches, to men's groups, and in special events across the country such as Freedom March. While he still experiences SSA, he more importantly continues to experience the love and grace of God in his life! His testimony is a big encouragement to me, and I know it will be one to you as well!
In this unique episode I review and discuss the recently released Disney/Pixar movie Luca! Hear a whole bunch of my thoughts and takeaways from this movie and why I enjoyed it, especially from the perspective of an SSA individual. Here's a short list of some of the topics covered: - The popular children's movie theme of disobeying parents - The observations and lessons learned from 3 different parent & home environments - Our culture's obsessive need to romanticize or sexualize same-gender friendships I hope you enjoy this episode!
Don't worry - we're not talking about the kind of physical that Olivia Newton-John had in mind when she recorded the song "Physical." I'm talking all about platonic touch and the important role it has in our lives, especially in our relationships with the same gender. How does physical touch affect the Christian who experiences same-sex attraction? Is the desire for physical touch with the same gender a valid or justifiable need that we should attempt to fulfill? I'll be giving some of my thoughts on this topic by discussing Bible passages, our culture and society today, and my own personal experiences. I really enjoyed recording this episode and talking about this topic, and I hope you find it enjoyable and beneficial as well!
This episode is all about my take on Christian sexual identity and orientation. In our cultural climate today identities, orientations, and labels are thrown around constantly and overwhelmingly. But how much thought is truly put into using these words to describe ourselves? What does it actually mean to call yourself gay? or bisexual? or queer? Most importantly, what does the Bible say about identity and homosexuality? I will discuss all of this and more right here and right now.
It is an intriguing concept to think about going back and talking to your younger self and imparting some wisdom that you have learned with age. In this episode I will discuss some of the biggest lessons I would go back and try to teach my younger self concerning my battle with SSA. Maybe some of you can relate! Also, here are some helpful resources/books I wish I would have had years ago that I highly recommend to everyone! In this episode I talk more about being in a heterosexual marriage while also struggling with not-so-heterosexual attractions. Bonus content: Listen to my pretty darn impressive impersonation of Tim Taylor and also hear one of my favorite lines from the movie Dumb & Dumber. You don't want to miss it!
Continue listening for an in-depth look into my college years and paths God placed before me to arrive where I am today. Sorry in advance that this episode is a whole hour long, but grab your AirPods, a cup of coffee, and get comfortable in your favorite chair for the conclusion to my story.
This is Part 1 of my story, where I dive into my early childhood and adolescent years.
