Today, on Karl and Crew, we wrapped up our weekly theme, "Temptation," by discussing various temptations with experts in their fields and how they overcome them. Dr. Winfred Neely joined us to discuss the temptation to manage worry in our own strength. He explained the difference between worry and concern and how believers can experience God’s peace by drawing near to Him in faith. Dr. Neely is Professor Emeritus of Old Testament, Biblical Interpretation, and Preaching at Moody Bible Institute and author of "How to Overcome Worry – Experiencing the Peace of God in Every Situation." Dr. Michael Rydelnik also joined us to talk about spiritual conflict in the Middle East, the danger of remaining silent in the face of evil, and how believers can stand firm by reading, meditating on, and speaking the Word of God. Dr. Rydelnik is Professor Emeritus of Jewish Studies and Bible and an Adjunct Professor in the undergraduate program at Moody Bible Institute. He is the author of "How Should Christians Think About Israel?" Omer Eshel joined us from Israel to discuss the reported protests in Gaza against Hamas. He explained how many Palestinian civilians are seeking freedom from Hamas’ control, urging believers to pray for peace, protection, and the people caught in the middle. Omer is the CEO and Co-founder of The Bible Comes to Life Travel and Educational Center. We then opened the phone lines to hear from our listeners and posed the question, “What temptation has God given you victory over?” You can catch the highlights of today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast If you're looking to hear a particular segment from the show, look at the following time stamps:Dr. Winfred Neely [ 44:34 ]Dr. Michael Rydelnik [ 13:38 ]Omer Eshel [ 7:04 ]Caller Segment [ 32:27 ]Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this message, we explore Psalm 34 and discover how David experienced the goodness of God in the middle of fear, uncertainty, and suffering. God's goodness is not found in a life without trouble, but in the presence, faithfulness, and redemption we find in Jesus. What we deeply long for can only be found in Jesus. Join us as we learn to praise God, remember his faithfulness, trust his promises, and rest in his redemption.

In this episode I am once again joined by Leigh Brasington, Buddhist meditation teacher and author of “Right Concentration, A Practical Guide to the Jhanas”. This episode begins with a brief comment from Leigh about his appearance in “Ep329: Enlightened Politics” in which he explored the relationship between Buddhism and political ideology. After that we discuss Leigh's new book “On the Way to the Far Shore”, his commentary on the Pārāyanavagga, chapter five of Suttanipāta, one of the earliest sutta collections in the Pali canon. The text takes the form of a question and answer session with the Buddha himself and evidences nascent forms of the doctrines of the four noble truths and the path of gradual training. Leigh considers the pros and cons of formal study of the Pali language, explains the ways in which English translations can be misleading, and muses on why so few Buddhist converts read their own scriptures. Leigh also reveals how his Dzogchen practice helped him understand early Buddhist doctrine, gives advice about how to internalise intellectual ideas through meditation practice, and shares how a profound experience of the nature of mind changed his life forever. … Video version: www.guruviking.com Also available on Youtube, iTunes, & Spotify – search ‘Guru Viking Podcast'. … Topics Include: 00:00 - Intro 01:17 - Can there be an enlightened tyrant? 02:49 - Anyone can perform enlightened activity 04:20 - Why Leigh wrote On the Way to the Far Shore 08:13 - Wrestling with the Pali sutta 09:07 - Leigh's training the the Pali language 11:18 - Struggles to learn foreign languages 12:37 - Is training as a scholar worth it? 14:36 - 4 categories of Pali suttas 17:05 - Why Leigh won't pursue a PhD 19:17 - Why don't Buddhists read the Pali canon? 23:14 - Diving into the the Pārāyanavagga, book five of the Suttanipāta 27:50 - Vedanā and āsava - don't believe the English translations 29:44 - Literal vs meaning translations + implications of grammar 33:40 - Q&A with the Buddha 36:20 - Questions the Buddha refuses to answer 37:46 - Experiencing the world raw 42:27 - The most important insight 44:22 - How to really gain insight 45:24 - Leigh's Dzogchen practice 46:14 - Leigh's mind blowing experience of the nature of mind 51:28 - After effects of Leigh's epiphany 53:56 - Integrating vs losing an insight 55:04 - How to keep an insight fresh 56:31 - How to regard the world so you are not seen by the King of Death 59:17 - How to become “ever mindful” 01:01:30 - This is a different kind of book 01:02:41 - The roots of the Four Noble Truths and the gradual training 01:05:13 - Will Leigh start a Pali sutta discussion group? 01:07:14 - Man in the Light of History of Religion 01:10:02 - Scripture as literature or an instruction manual? 01:12:32 - Leigh's advice for approaching difficult books 01:13:46 - What do the suttas say about the brahmavihārās? … Previous episodes with Leigh Brasington: - https://www.guruviking.com/search?q=brasington To find our more about Leigh Brasington visit: - http://www.leighb.com/ For more interviews, videos, and more visit: - https://www.guruviking.com Music ‘Deva Dasi' by Steve James
I, like perhaps everyone, find myself reminiscing from time to time. Reliving past experiences opens parts of my identity that used to be so much more prevalent than they are today. Experiencing a sense of nostalgia and longing for those times is not uncommon, and yet I realize it's a bit of a trick played by my mind when I'm able to step back and observe it from a distance. I share a bit about that experience here, which I hope you enjoy. Perhaps it will spark some reflection of your own. Thanks for listening. As always, Much Love ❤️ and please take care.

Carolyn Adriano died from an accidental drug overdose in May of this year, but in reality it was Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein's abuse that led to her death. After suffering years of abuse at the hands of Maxwell and Epstein, Carolyn was "aged out" because she hit the age of 18 and from there things continued to spiral. Experiencing trauma can have profound and lasting effects on an individual's mental and emotional well-being. Some people who suffer trauma turn to drugs as a coping mechanism, seeking relief from the intense psychological pain and distress that trauma can bring. This summary explores the complex relationship between trauma and substance abuse, shedding light on the factors that drive individuals to self-medicate with drugs.Trauma, whether caused by violence, accidents, natural disasters, or other distressing events, can lead to feelings of helplessness, anxiety, depression, and flashbacks. These emotional responses can be overwhelming, and some individuals may resort to substance abuse as a way to numb their pain and temporarily escape from the traumatic memories.Several key factors contribute to the connection between trauma and drug use:Emotional Relief: Drugs like alcohol, opioids, or stimulants can temporarily alleviate feelings of sadness, fear, and anxiety. Individuals may use drugs to experience emotional relief, even if it's temporary.Self-Medication: Some people turn to drugs as a form of self-medication to cope with their symptoms. They may not have access to or awareness of healthier coping strategies, such as therapy or support groups.Escapism: The effects of certain drugs can create a sense of detachment from reality, allowing those who have experienced trauma to temporarily escape from painful memories and emotions.Peer Pressure: Social environments where drug use is prevalent can encourage individuals to try substances, especially if they are already struggling with the aftermath of trauma. This can lead to a cycle of drug abuse as a means of fitting in or seeking connection.Biological Factors: Trauma can affect brain chemistry and increase the vulnerability to addiction. It can lead to changes in the reward system of the brain, making individuals more susceptible to substance abuse.Risk of Re-traumatization: Engaging in risky behaviors associated with substance abuse can increase the risk of re-traumatization, perpetuating a cycle of trauma and addiction.(commercial at 7:53)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Ghislaine Maxwell sex trafficking victim OD'd but really it was murder | Toronto SunBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Dry July, No Drama: Daily Tips for a Take It or Leave It Relationship With Alcohol Episode 18: What Was Alcohol Keeping You Safe From Experiencing? - Dry July, No Drama I want you to really listen to this one. Instead of beating yourself up after you have drunk more than you wanted to - focus on the data. Stop being so judgemental. Judgement puts us into a state of dysregulation, and dysregulation makes us much more likely to drink. In my programs we work on data, not blame. We work on growth mindset, not self-attack. It is always: what did I not yet know how to do? The question to ask yourself every single time this happens during your preparation week: What was alcohol keeping me safe from experiencing? For many of us there is a harsh inner critic constantly telling us everything we did wrong and catastrophising everything that is about to happen. Often, drinking is trying to make that voice stop. Often it is trying to keep us pushing through when we are exhausted - or trying to help us relax because we genuinely do not know how to do that without it. For so many women it is exhaustion. Burnout. Needing to stop. We have been culturally conditioned to push through our nervous system and judge ourselves the moment our capacity is not where we think it should be. Alcohol stops us from experiencing ourselves as less than capable. It gives us permission to stop - because we do not know how to give that permission to ourselves. For me it was different again - alcohol let me stay in the room with my family and actually engage when all I wanted was time alone. My brain had been conditioned to believe wanting that time alone was selfish. It let me focus on their needs when everything in me wanted to focus on what I needed to get done. There are a million versions of this question. What is it helping you avoid experiencing? Once you understand what alcohol has been keeping you safe from - you can start to explore what you actually need instead. This episode is part of Dry July, No Drama - a daily MidlifeAF podcast mini series with tips for cutting back on alcohol without willpower, labels or forever. My Awareness Worksheets are perfect for asking yourself exactly this question - without judgement, with curiosity. While mental health conditions affect everyone, men are statistically less likely to seek professional treatment. According to data from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), only about 41.6% of men with a mental illness receive treatment, compared to 56.9% of women. This disparity contributes to a silent crisis, notably reflected in suicide rates, where men account for nearly 80% of all suicide deaths in the United States.Hidden Signs and SymptomsAccording to clinical studies and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), men often manifest psychological distress differently than women. Instead of standard symptoms like visible sadness or crying, men are more likely to exhibit:Behavioral changes: Increased irritability, sudden anger, hostility, and aggressive outbursts.Escapist habits: Throwing themselves compulsively into work or sports to avoid processing emotions.Risk-taking: Engaging in reckless driving, safe-sex neglect, or gambling.Substance misuse: Using alcohol or drugs as a primary tool to self-medicate.Physical ailments: Experiencing chronic headaches, digestive issues, and unexplained body pain.Barriers to Seeking CareSocietal conditioning and cultural expectations create significant hurdles for men actively managing their mental health:Traditional masculinity: Generational pressures to "man up," remain self-reliant, and view vulnerability as a weakness.Fear of burdening others: A reported 36% of men avoid discussing their mental health because they do not want to be a burden.Clinical misdiagnosis: Because symptoms often mask as anger or irritation rather than low mood, doctors can easily miss early signs of depression.Actionable Strategies and ResourcesImproving men's mental health requires structural support and intentional lifestyle choices:Build social connections: Consistently share struggles with trusted friends or partners to combat isolation.Utilize dedicated tools: Explore specialized, male-focused digital resources like the self-inspection tools on Man Therapy or educational guides via HeadsUpGuys.Engage in therapy: Use evidence-based care like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to learn practical coping mechanisms.Incorporate physical wellness: Prioritize regular exercise, structured sleep, and mindfulness to physically reduce baseline stress hormones.Access immediate crisis care: If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for free, confidential 24/7 support

In this episode of the Observatory Podcast, Scott and LaRae Wright sit down with Stephen Karafiath and Carrie Cox, two friends in a new relationship who are intentionally building love through secure attachment, emotional honesty, and nervous-system awareness.Together, they explore what it means to “wade through the muck” instead of bypassing discomfort — how trauma can be alchemized, how boundaries create safety, and how a shared relational container allows for co-regulation, depth, and intimacy. This conversation touches on vulnerability, conscious partnership, and the courage required to stay present when things get messy — because that's often where transformation lives. Today, we discuss the topic of God's approachability. Christians are called to be peaceful, not argumentative or volatile. The story Esau, who sold his birthright for a bowl of stew, illustrating the dangers of instant gratification. God's people were commanded not to touch the mountain - yet everyone's innate desire is to touch the mountain. God is approachable, but we must approach Him in the right way. Political disillusionment? Or something even darker?

Paring Down: Realistic minimalism to live more intentionally
This is a super vulnerable and real conversation with my childhood friend, Mallory Andrews, about what it means to trust yourself when everything you've known begins to shift. Mallory opens up about walking away from her evangelical Christian community and the recent end of her almost 20-year marriage—and what both experiences have taught her about true belonging. We cover: Why leaving a community can bring both relief and grief at the same time How the pressure to conform removes the ability to be fully engaged and attached to people Why it's not always true that during hard seasons we need to reach out…sometimes that cocooning period is helpful …and more. Whether you're navigating a shift in faith, relationships, or identity, this episode is a reminder that you deserve to belong exactly as you are — no performance required. What does it mean to practise Wicca as an initiatory tradition today, and how does the legacy of figures such as Doreen Valiente continue to shape modern Witchcraft? In this livestream, I will be joined by Rufus Harrington, a Wiccan priest and long-standing initiate of the Craft, trustee of the Doreen Valiente Foundation, psychotherapist, and teacher of magical practice. Together, we will explore the history, practice, and inner logic of Wicca beyond the stereotypes: initiation, ritual, secrecy, the Horned God, the role of the priesthood, and the relationship between magic, psychology, and transformation.Rufus brings a rare combination of lived initiatory experience, historical connection to key figures in modern Witchcraft, and professional expertise in psychotherapy. This conversation will be especially valuable for anyone interested in British Traditional Wicca, Alexandrian and Gardnerian lineages, Doreen Valiente, Enochian magic, Pagan priesthood, and the deeper question of how magical traditions survive, adapt, and remain meaningful in the present.CONTACT DETAILS: cbtclinics@btopenworld.comCONNECT & SUPPORT

The strange experience of deja vu sometimes lasts just a matter of milliseconds. Nonetheless it can still catch you off guard and be pretty unsettling. Deja vu means “already seen” in French. It refers to the sense of having already seen or experienced something you're confronted with, even though you know that you have never actually seen it before. For example, you visit a new city for the first time in your life, but at a precise moment you get the feeling like you've walked down a certain street in the past. According to Psychology Today, it occurs in 60 - 70% of people from time to time, while research suggests more than 97% of us have experienced it at least once in our lives. Has it always existed? Have scientific studies been able to shed any light on it? Can deja vu be dangerous? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Could optimizing your testosterone levels as a woman be the missing piece to improving your sleep, mood, and libido? In this episode, I'm joined by OB-GYN, integrative women's health expert, and author Dr. Suzanne Gilberg Lenz for a powerful conversation about botanicals, hormones, and the menopause symptoms women should stop ignoring. We talk about how herbs like ashwagandha, rhodiola, black cohosh, Siberian rhubarb, saffron, and passion flower may support sleep, mood, hot flashes, blood sugar, and nervous system regulation. Most importantly, we dig into why symptoms like severe hot flashes, night sweats, and sexual dysfunction are not just annoying midlife inconveniences, but important signals your body is asking you to address. What you'll learn: (00:00) Experiencing sexual or orgasmic dysfunction can act as a crucial early warning signal for underlying heart disease. (00:10) Hot flashes and night sweats originate in the brain and can serve as major red flags for cardiovascular disease and dementia. (01:44) Utilizing a clinically studied form of urolithin A helps renew mitochondrial health to improve muscle strength and function. (02:41) Constant hunger and cravings often stem from a gut issue where cells lack the short-chain fatty acids needed to regulate appetite. (06:04) Over thirty percent of conventional pharmaceuticals originate from the botanical world and traditional medicine. (12:07) Starting with adaptogens like ashwagandha or rhodiola provides a gentle, powerful entrance point for managing nervous system and sleep issues. (12:58) Siberian rhubarb acts as a selective estrogen receptor modulator to target brain and bone health without activating proliferation in the uterus or breast. (16:25) Overcoming menopausal sleep issues requires evaluating lifestyle choices, blood sugar stability, and helpful botanicals like passion flower and saffron. Love the podcast?
