John Augustus Kelly Jr. (September 16, 1927 – November 7, 1992) was an American film and television actor most noted for the role of Bart Maverick in the television series Maverick, which ran on ABC from 1957 to 1962. Kelly shared the series, rotating as the lead from week to week, first with James Garner as Bret Maverick (1957–1960) then with Roger Moore as Beau Maverick (1960–1961) and Robert Colbert as Brent Maverick (1961, for two episodes), before becoming the only Maverick (alternating with reruns from the Garner era) in the fifth season. Kelly later became a politician, having served from 1983 to 1986 as the mayor of Huntington Beach, California.[1] PICTURE: By ABC Television - eBay itemphoto frontphoto back, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=19322771

I'm sure you've seen plenty of movies, TV shows or ads featuring animals – whether it's a show based on one, like Babe or even if they're just in the background – like a dog on the street. Did you know there needs to be at least one animal trainer present on set? My guest today is Jet Shaw, and she does exactly that. She's also an internationally acclaimed animal behaviourist and educator. She's worked on some of the biggest movies, like Avatar, and has a career spanning over 3 decades.I'm very aware when it comes to animals and the ethics of them working in show biz, it can be a really complicated topic. It definitely is for me. But what I wanted to explore in this episode was the basics about the actual experience, so we don't go too far into the politics. It's a really important conversation, and I think it deserves an entire episode of it's own. So who knows, maybe one day. What I will say is this… Jet is SO passionate about what she does. Her love for animals is undeniable, and as you'll soon hear, she's incredibly strict about the high standard she keeps to ensure the well-being of her animals on and off set. She's also really funny… You're going to hear about how Jet became a trainer, how it all works as well as some pretty special moments - you might even recognise a couple of the stars she's worked with. So without further ado - here's Jet. Get in touch if you'd like to suggest an idea for an episode or just to say G'day

As part of University of Arizona's SXSW Movie Night night, Shai and Becky had an inspiring conversation with School of Theatre, Film & Television alum and current students in front of a packed live audience. We talked to Zack Lovvorn, whose eerie sci-fi film Iris gives us serious early Cronenberg vibes, Sasha Reist who brings a dancer's unique perspective to documentary film in her short Changement, and Roxie Denise Stevens Ibarra who masterfully plays with our heartstrings in her moving dramatic short Tesoro. We were also lucky to ask Peter Catalanotte of Film Tucson, a few insiders questions about shooting in Arizona. Calls for New Zealand to join in Australia in a major shakeup for local film and television production. From mid-2024, streaming services like Netflix, Disney and Amazon will be forced to reinvest 20 percent of their revenue back into the local market. This in turn could also see the companies produce a certain quota of domestic content. Directors and Editors Guild executive director Tui Ruwhiu told Mike Hosking it's been raised in various meetings at different levels. He says it'll be difficult to implement here because of general agreement of trade and tariffs in the World Trade Organisation we're signed up to. Ethan Brown is a recent graduate of Boston University, where he studied Environmental Analysis & Policy and Film & Television. Ethan was never the outdoorsy type growing up, but after studying the risks associated with climate change, he felt compelled to use his years of comedy writing experience as Editor-in-Chief of both his high school and college satire publications to communicate environmental issues to others in a fun and entertaining way. Finding himself with some free time during early quarantine, Ethan launched The Sweaty Penguin Podcast. Since its launch, The Sweaty Penguin has released 80+ episodes on topics ranging from fracking to ADHD to maple syrup to jellyfish, amassed over 12,000 downloads, showcased the work of professors from ten countries across five continents, won three grants, and became a PBS partner. Through The Sweaty Penguin, Ethan aims to make climate change less overwhelming and politicized, and more accessible and fun, which he hopes will lead to more engagement, conversation, and progress. We can all agree that the presence of LGBT characters and representation in film & television is very common in our culture today, but how should we as Christians respond to this? What does the Bible teach us about such things? If we experience SSA ourselves, is it helpful for us to consume any amount of LGBT content? If so, how much? Are we comfortable with viewing other portrayals of sinful activity in entertainment as long as it doesn't include homosexuality? Give this episode a listen to find out my thoughts and how I think God gives us instruction in His Word. Don't forget to subscribe and check out the links below! Website Facebook Instagram
