Hey Big 12 fans! This is the podcast version of my weekly newsletter Bedgood's Big 12 Bullets. I'm an experienced sportswriter and author of the book Lessons from Legends: 12 Hall of Fame Coaches on Leadership, Life, and Leaving a Legacy. I interviewed legendary coaches like Barry Switzer, Steve Spu…
This week I'm joined by TCU superfan, actor, and comedian Clint Foster to talk about his comedic TCU/Big 12 videos and get his thoughts on his beloved Horned Frogs.
The Voice of the Oklahoma Sooners Toby Rowland joins me to discuss his career and breakdown the huge primetime Beldam matchup between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State this weekend!
I know we are many weeks into this strange season, but I finally feel comfortable enough to make my prediction for the Big 12 champion this season. I also break down a full slate of games this upcoming weekend which promised to be a fun one!
Yes, Oklahoma and Texas did lose last week. Yes, Oklahoma has two losses. BUT IT'S STILL OU/TX WEEK! And we've got Barry Switzer on the show this week to talk about his career against Texas, what made his teams so successful, and why he thinks there's no need to panic for OU just yet.
TCU broadcaster John Denton joined me on the show to talk about a wild offseason for the Horned Frogs and what we can expect in their first game of the season.
I talked to John Morris, the longtime play-by-play announcer for the Baylor Bears, to preview the upcoming Baylor vs Houston matchup. Morris gives a breakdown of the Baylor roster and talks about the challenges of this difficult offseason.
This is a unique one. I talked to Trevor Kiess, who was the West Virginia Mountaineer mascot for the an entire year. He was the mascot for West Virginia's epic 42-41 win over Texas in 2018. This game was noted for the amount of times WVU players threw the Horns down at the Texas fans, so you know it was one of my favorites.
Joel Lanning played linebacker and quarterback during Iowa State's 2017 upset victory over #3 Oklahoma. He talked about his legendary game, what it was like switching position, and how Matt Campbell changed the culture at Iowa State.
Former Kansas State linebacker and star of The Bachelor Season 17, Sean Lowe joined me on the podcast to talk about one of the biggest upsets in Big 12 history. Kansas State's 2003 Big 12 Championship victory over Oklahoma was a stunner. Lowe also talks about what it was like playing for Bill Snyder and former KSU defensive coordinator Bret Bielema.
Oklahoma State's epic 2014 win over Oklahoma gets a closer examination in this week's podcast. This game is famous for Tyreek Hill's game-tying punt return TD. I break down exactly why Oklahoma decided to punt the ball to Hill in the first pace. And 2017 Biletnikoff Award winner James Washington joins me to talk about the game. Texas and Texas A&M are historic, bitter rivals that haven't played each other since 2011. That final game in 2011 was an epic battle that Texas won on a game-winning field goal. The hero of the game for Texas was Case McCoy, the younger brother of the legendary Colt McCoy. Case joined me on the podcast to talk about this game. He gave a really interesting behind-the-scenes look at one of the biggest games in Big 12 history.
Remember when Kansas beat Texas at football? Of course you do. But do you remember the details of that game? Probably not. So we took a deep dive into the game itself and spoke with Kansas QB Carter Stanley to get his perspective. This is a game that lives in infamy in the minds of Texas fans, but for the rest of the Big 12 it's a perennial favorite.
Bob Stoops, the winnningest coach in Oklahoma football history, joins me to reminisce about one of his greatest nights as a coach: OU's 2008 win over #2 Texas Tech. Oklahoma didn't just win this game, they dominated it 65-21. Stoops talks about how he motivated the crowd before the game, how well his team played, and his relationship with Mike Leach.
Graham Harrell, current USC Offensive Coordinator and legendary Texas Tech QB, joins the podcast to talk about the greatest night in Texas Tech history. The 2008 win over No. 1 Texas features the iconic Michael Crabtree game-winning catch, but it also had so much more. It was one of the best games ever, so it was a no-brainer to include as Texas Tech's Game of the Week. Make sure to rate and subscribe to the podcast!
TCU's 2015 win over Baylor in the freezing cold and rain gets a closer examination on the Game of the Week series. Former TCU cornerback Julius Lewis, who helped make the final tackle of the game, talks with host Scott Bedgood about the conditions, how he and the team overcame the difficulty, and how much the victory meant to the team. He also talks about the famous 2018 Cheez-It Bowl.
The first episode in the Bedgood's Big 12 Bullets Game of the Week series looks back at 61-58, the classic 2014 game between the Baylor Bears and the TCU Horned Frogs. Host Scott Bedgood speaks with former Baylor kicker Chris Callahan, who kicked the game winning field goal in this crazy game. Callahan reflects on the life of a kicker and talks about what it's like making a high-pressure kick.
Well the Big 12 season has ended in disappointment for pretty much everyone in the conference. The Bowl Season was historically bad, but there is some hope for next year for certain teams. I break down each team's season and give letter grades based on the season expectations and results. Make sure to subscribe and rate this podcast!
It's bowl season!! I break down all of the bowls involving Big 12 teams, including some huge matchups between Baylor and Georgia, Iowa State and Notre Dame, and, of course, Oklahoma and LSU. I give my predicted winner for each game and tell you why everyone in the Big 12 will be cheering for Oklahoma State.
The Heisman Trophy ceremony is this weekend and Jalen Hurts will be in New York City for the presentation. But Oklahoma State star running back Chuba Hubbard isn't a finalists despite leading the country in rushing. I discuss whether Hubbard was robbed by the Heisman voters on this episode of the Big 12 Bullets podcast.
Jason Kersey, the Oklahoma Sooners beat writer for The Athletic, joined me on the podcast for a great discussion about the Big 12 Championship game as well as the College Football Playoff picture. We talked about whether Baylor or Oklahoma would even have a chance against teams like Ohio State, LSU, or Clemson. Stay tuned for the end of the interview where we poke fun at the silly Bob Stoops rumors that have abounded the last few weeks.
It's Bedlam Week, which gives us the perfect excuse to relive some of Mike Gundy's best press conference moments! But before you can hear those, I break down the game and discuss the main way I think Oklahoma State could actually win this game despite the injuries to their star WR and QB. I also discuss the latest College Football Playoff rankings and how Oklahoma and Baylor have a pretty clear shot to make it if things go their way.
Oklahoma was down 28-3 in the second quarter of their game against Baylor this past weekend in Waco. Oklahoma won the game. How did that happen? I break it down, including highlights of all the action, on this week's episode of Big 12 Bullets.
Ari Temkin hosts "Big 12 This Morning" on SiriusXM radio as well as the Dallas Cowboys pregame show and a YouTube show. In sum, he's a smart football guy with a lot of knowledge about the Big 12, so it was the perfect time to bring him on to talk about the biggest game in the Big 12 this season. Baylor vs Oklahoma is a game with so much on the line for both teams and the entire conference. Ari and I break down the game and the College Football Playoff rankings as well as discuss his alma mater of Kansas and the possibility of Matt Rhule or Lincoln Riley would ever coach the Dallas Cowboys.
The first College Football Playoff rankings were released this week, and it was pretty bleak for the Big 12. Undefeated Baylor couldn't crack the Top 10 and Oklahoma was down at No. 9. Is there a way for the Big 12 to make the playoff? Who has to lose for that to happen? And who should the Big 12 be cheering for in the LSU vs Alabama game this weekend? I answer all of those questions on this week's episode!
Everything went wrong for the Big 12's favored teams this weekend. Oklahoma lost to Kansas State, Texas lost to TCU, Iowa State lost to Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech lost to Kansas. I recap each of these crazy games, from Oklahoma's comeback that fell just short to Texas Tech's insane loss to Kansas. What does this mean for Oklahoma's playoff chances? And how excited is Baylor that they didn't have to play last week?
Mike Gundy once again comes through with a very strange and memorable soundbite, but the underlying truth behind it is that his team is struggling. Other things that struggled this weekend include the Texas Longhorns who barely beat Kansas at home, and the Sooner Schooner which took a tumble. I break down all of these things and preview what could possibly be a trap game for the undefeated Sooners this weekend.
The Red River Shootout lived up to the hype last week, with Oklahoma coming away with an impressive victory. But are the two best teams in the conference headed for trap games this weekend? I preview each of the weekend's games and discuss the probability that Baylor could be 9-0 before playing Oklahoma in late November. Are they as good as it seems?
This is a game that needs no introduction: the Red River Showdown. It's my favorite sporting event every year. There's nothing quite like it. This year both teams are in the Top 10, which makes it even more intriguing. Both teams feature star Heisman candidate QBs. Texas has a brash, bold, arrogant QB in Sam Ehlinger. He's built for this rivalry. OU has a QB who hates talking and doesn't seem excited by anything. It's a little different from when they had Baker Mayfield. I talk about all of that and more on this special episode!
The man with too many quotable press conference moments to count had another one this week when he twisted off on a reporter asking a question about T. Boone Pickens and Mike Gundy's mullet. I play the clip, discuss it, and break down the Texas/Oklahoma State, TCU/SMU, and West Virginia/Kansas games from this past weekend. All of that and more on this week's Big 12 Bullets podcast!
Kansas and Kansas State won non-conference games against Power 5 opponents for the first time since Gerald Ford was president, so it's pretty obvious what I'm talking about on this week's Big 12 Bullets podcast. I talk about some of the incredible numbers and streaks that Kansas broke with their road win over Boston College. Overall it was a good weekend for the Big 12, Iowa State losing to Iowa on a muffed punt notwithstanding.
The rivalry game fondly known as "El Assico" on the internet will actually feature two good teams this weekend as Iowa/Iowa State play. Ames is the College Gameday for the first time ever. Fans will be going nuts in Iowa, but will the game be any good? Well, typically it isn't, but maybe this time it will be. I break down the teams, but, if I'm honest you should tune in only for an amazing song about Ames.
On this episode of the Bedgood's Big 12 Bullets podcast I talk about the quarterbacks in the Big 12 conference. There are quite a few good players at the QB position, highlighted by Sam Ehlinger at Texas and, now, Jalen Hurts at Oklahoma. But there are also some other players who could challenge for the title of third-best QB in the conference, like Brock Purdy of Iowa State and Charlie Brewer at Baylor. I also preview the big LSU vs Texas game that happens this upcoming weekend. Listen and subscribe and rate the podcast!
On this episode I briefly preview each team in the Big 12 and I make my predictions for where each tea will finish this season. There are a lot of new coaches joining the conference that will add a lot of intrigue, but do I think they will make a huge difference this season? You'll have to listen to the episode to find that out! I also talk about who I think will win the conference, but you can probably guess who that will be.
The first ever episode of the Bedgood's Big 12 Bullets podcast! We prepare you for the seasons with a quick rundown of the main headlines and a preview of the podcast. Host Scott Bedgood will be hosting this weekly podcast where he'll interview big name guests from the college football world, take you on strange journeys into the minds of the characters of the Big 12 like Mike Gundy, Les Miles, and Gary Patterson, and keep you up-to-date on all the happenings in the conference!
