We all know Lincoln Riley: the head coach, the play-caller, the quarterback developer. But do you know how his work ethic was formed? How his father taught him that no detail is too small? Or why he's savoring the small wins as he rebuilds USC?If not, today's episode of the Y-Option Podcast, presented by our founding partner 76, is the perfect listen.I've been around college football for 25 years. As pressure mounts, revenue grows, and realignment dominates headlines, it's easy to forget the human beings behind the programs - those who lead, call plays, and develop young athletes. And when it comes to head coaches and quarterbacks, it's easy to focus on salary, job title, or recruiting rankings. But the truth is always deeper.Today's conversation brings you into the “why” behind Lincoln Riley's leadership - his upbringing in Muleshoe, Texas, the influence of Mike Leach, the lasting impact of his dear friend Dave Nichol and much more.As a fellow small-town transplant drawn to the big-city lights, Lincoln and I talk about what it means to now call Los Angeles home and what he enjoys when he finds time off the field. When I first started coaching at USC in 2005 under Pete Carroll, one of the most fascinating dynamics I noticed in L.A. was the tension between external vs. internal reality. Players are often told by the outside world that they're elite, destined to dominate. Internally, though, they may be struggling - learning the playbook, adjusting to a demanding environment. That's natural in a sport as developmental as football. But at USC, that disconnect can be amplified, especially in the current landscape of college football.Coach Riley and I explored when he first noticed that, and how he helps his players deal with it and the lessons learned early on at USC.Finally, we delve into his quarterback room. He's coached a range of personalities, and there's no single way to mold them. Think about it: from Baker to Kyler to Spencer to Caleb to Miller to the current room at USC. It's full of such dynamic personalities and all so different. So I had to ask: How do you actually talk to that position? If you've followed my podcast, you know my only rule: ask questions I don't already know the answers to. And this episode taught me a lot - about Lincoln Riley the small-town kid with principled parents, Lincoln Riley the head coach at USC, and Lincoln Riley the human being.I hope you enjoy getting to know him as much as I did.Much love, and stay steady,YogiExecutive produced by Jim Thornby, field produced by McKenna Keil, filmed by Liam Brennan, edited by Victor Ren. The College Football Experience (@TCEonSGPN) on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network breaks down the hottest coaching seats heading into the 2025 College Football season. Pick Dundee aka (@TheColbyD) & Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) break down just what coaches have the hottest seats and which coaches will survive the hot seat and which ones will hit the road. Will Brian Kelly survive the 2025 season and perhaps get the LSU Tigers to the college football playoffs? Will Lincoln Riley have a bounce back season at USC and could his contract perhaps save his tenure in Los Angeles? Will Sam Pittman be the first coach fired in the 2025 season? What should we expect from Luke Fickell in a critical year 3 in Madison, Wisconsin with the Badgers? Can Dave Aranda get the Baylor Bears contending in the Big 12? Did Billy Napier figure it out at Florida last season and should they be a team to watch out for in 2025? Which coach has the hotter seat Mike Norvell at Florida State or Mario Cristobal with the Miami Hurricanes? Could Kirk Ferentz and Kyle Whittingham retire after this season? We fight through a number of technical difficulties to bring you Episode 350! Wendy's caught heat for roasting Katy Perry, some missionaries got cholera from holy water, and an OnlyFans model got in trouble for using a grocery store as her personal toilet. Mike Leach had a unique idea to get a first down, two Upstate NY brothers were arrested for two very different yet disgusting sex crimes, and a Catholic Hospital has found the one time when they don't want a fetus to be considered a person! Mickey Rourke got kicked out of the Big Brother UK house, Haley Joel Osment apologized for using antisemitic slurs, Joe Rogan wants the r-word to make a comeback, and the drummer for New Pornographers turned out to be into children. We say goodbye to Pope Francis, tell you what we're watching, and give you another segment in But The Drag Queens Are The Problem!

It's the boss' retirement party today! NBA Playoffs start tomorrow. Will some NBA superstars be on the move this offseason? Luka is one of us. Deion Sanders has very little self-awareness. Good news for Portland Diamond Project. Worst Day on the Web: Katy Perry might be less self-aware than Deion Sanders. Rob Manfred says fans should go to Angels games if they can't afford Dodgers games. Which playoff team is most likely to pull off an upset? An end to 5-year eligibility rule for college athletes? "Or" - NBA Playoffs edition. Quite possibly Mike Leach's most insane idea.
Which NBA Playoff team is most likely to pull off an upset? Is the end of the 5-year eligibility rule coming? "Or" - NBA Playoffs edition. Even for Mike Leach, this idea was bonkers.
The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's 3-2 week that featured a midweek win over Loyola Marymount and another Big Ten road series win for the Trojans before USC dropped a midweek against Hawai'i that they couldn't close out with the lead. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action, looking at the positives of the Trojans improving to 23-13 with an 11-7 mark in Big Ten play, bumping up to fourth in the standings behind only two ranked teams and Iowa. They discuss the play of the Cadens (Hunter and Aoki) at the front of the weekend pitching rotation as well as Big Ten Player of the Week Abbrie Covarrubias and the bounce backs of a couple of players, who were unfazed by a poor performance early in the weekend. The podcasters also look at three negatives, including the continued black hole that is USC's Sunday starting pitching role and not being able to close out a couple of winnable games because of mistakes and free bases. USC director of baseball performance Adam Thackery then joins the show to talk about his transition from football strength and conditioning at USC to working with the Trojan baseballers. He talks about what he thinks it takes to win a national championship having been the strength coach for the 2021 national champion Mississippi State Bulldogs, gives his favorite Mike Leach story and discusses the intricacies of training two completely separate groups with pitchers (and the differences between starters and relievers) and hitters. After a break, Shotgun and Kasey take a look at where the Trojans stand after winning another conference series and take a peek at where the Trojans could wind up in the postseason. The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action with the Trojans hosting a surging Gonzaga team that has won 15 of 18 in a Thursday-Friday-Saturday Easter weekend series before having a midweek matchup with Long Beach State. Sign up for free here: https://ryanhawk.kit.com/profile Bob Stoops was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2021. He was the head football coach at the University of Oklahoma from 1999 to 2016. He led the Sooners to a 191-48 record over his career. His 2000/2001 team won the national championship. He earned the National Coach of the Year award the same season. Since 2020, Stoops has been a head coach in the XFL, winning an XFL Championship in 2023 with the Arlington Renegades. He played college football at the University of Iowa, earning team MVP his senior year as a defensive back. Notes: Coaches Bob has worked for: Hayden Fry at Iowa, Bill Snyder at Kansas State, and Steve Spurrier at Florida. He's worked for some amazing coaches. Relationships are everything. You must connect with people. You must be authentic. Learn from other coaches, but you have to be yourself Sherri Coale: “One of my favorite things about him is he's the busiest man on the planet but never appeared that way. That's a skill and an art. That fascinates me.” What makes a great head coach? They relate to people. They care about them. They can motivate and influence by clearly sharing the vision of the program and inspiring others to get on board. They are decisive people. Most importantly, they know how to connect with people. All leadership is a people business. If you can't connect with others, you'll probably struggle. Creating a “coaches forest” (beyond a tree) - Mike Stoops, Mark Mangino, Mike Leach, Bo Pelini, Kevin Sumlin, Kevin Wilson, Lincoln Riley, and more. How has Bob prepared so many guys to be successful head coaches? Hiring – “I always tried to hire people smarter than me.” A lot of people say this, but not all do this. Coach Stoops looked for people who had a track record of performance… And then he used his gut instincts after he spent time with him. He paid attention to how they treated his secretary, how they treated the waiter at lunch… Some call those the little things, but they were very important to Coach Stoops The overarching theme of the entire conversation was the simplicity of how Coach Stoops built his program. He didn't try to overcomplicate anything. He knew he wanted coaches who were accomplished, high-character people. And he wanted tough players who loved football. Their offenses may have looked exotic but they didn't have a ton of plays installed. They focused on what they did and then practiced it relentlessly so that they would execute better than their opponents. I think there's something beautiful in the simplicity with how he's built his program and the results speak for themselves. Great players want to be coached - Jeremiah Smith, Adrian Peterson. What he looked for in players: They have to LOVE football. Need to be tough and physical. Someone like Dan Cody. From Oklahoma, was skinny, and nobody on the staff wanted to give him a scholarship, but Coach Stoops did, and he turned out to be a great player. Liked to keep local guys home. Off-season workouts create the culture of the team. "We won because we outworked everyone." The attitude of the national championship team - "They were tired of being kicked around." And "I shared with them the history of Oklahoma and let them know the way it should be. When we started, they were a losing team." Josh Heupel - The most valuable recruit ever for Coach Stoops. Mike Leach was a 1 of 1. An original. He seemed relaxed and casual, but he was also very demanding that they do it right. He was also focused on just a few plays instead of trying to do everything. FOCUS. Do what we do Wife Carol - Impressive leader at Mary Kay. Won a pink Cadillac 16 years in a row. National Sales Director. Life/Career Advice - Go hard, be tough, be true to yourself, enjoy the struggle, and look forward to the fight. Nothing great happens without going through struggles first.

Joey has 10 players on his rec league team, but only four showed up for his most recent game. Where was everyone else? Why do so many people feel okay saying they'll do something—like participate in a league, accompany you to a game, or join a watch party—and then back out with no warning or heads up? These people are missing a common courtesy that should be ingrained in all of us.The Cowboys have had a ton of silly things happen to them over the past couple of weeks. Then, they went out and won perhaps the dumbest game ever. Amazing. We're also sharing a Mike Leach quote that might set the record for number of times using the word "dumb," and we get way too into the intricacies of tuning a guitar. Plus, it's Thanksgiving week, so we're sharing unusual things we're thankful for.Number one on that list? You! Follow Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. Thanks for listening!

On Wednesday's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett was joined by Jim Moore, The Go-2-Guy, who joins PuckSports.com every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from his home in Bend, Oregon. Puck and Jim pick up with a story from Puck that the two were taking off the air about, in regards to Puck's encounter with an angry dog owner on a baseball field. Puck has given him the moniker, “Seattle Entitled”, and he told Jim how the dog owner became upset at Puck when he asked him to leave the field because his dogs kept stealing their baseballs. Puck detailed to the encounter turned “physical” and Puck had a good laugh about it. They also chatted about what Puck brought up yesterday to John Canzano, that most Husky fans don't really like Jedd Fisch, because they can see right through what he's selling. They compared how they felt about Mike Leach when he was coaching the Cougs. World Series drama….Jim and Puck reacted to the two dummies that interfered with Mookie Betts during Game 4 of the World Series and they want the two idiots banned for life from any MLB park. Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftBlog.com, drops by for his weekly visit to talk Seahawks football. They jump right into the disaster of the football game that the loss to the Buffalo Bills. The majority of the show they concentrated their time on the offensive line and why for the last ten years has it been a problem for Seattle? They will not reach their goals as a team until they fix those issues up front. Rob revisits past drafts to highlight the issues with their drafts and looks at free agents that they could have landed instead of other players that they ultimately signed. Both agree that John Schneider is a great GM, but both also agree that he has failed miserably in rebuilding and developing the OL. The Seahawks will have big decisions to make in the offseason with personnel and one of those conversations will be what to do with Geno Smith? They obviously need a QB, but is Smith worth the massive price tag. Also, there will be free agents available like Sam Darnold. Is he worth taking a look at? At the end of the QB discussion, Puck brings up one more name that will be a free agent at the end of the season and that would be Russell Wilson. Would you bring Wilson back next year? Puck puts Rob on the spot to answer that question. Finally, Puck brings up the Russell Wilson topic on “Hey, What the Puck!?” Would you do it?
