On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio taking a detailed look at USC's next opponent, the Michigan Wolverines. After Michigan's early season road loss at Oklahoma, the Wolverines have been playing better football and bringing along five-star freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood. USC had a great 4-0 start to the season before getting derailed at Illinois two weeks ago. Both teams have aspirations of making the college football playoff, but a loss on Saturday likely would derail those dreams. For the Trojans, this is easily one of the most important games in Lincoln Riley's tenure. With a bye week to get healthy and work on some of the Trojans defensive issues, it is imperative that Riley's squad comes out and plays good, clean football against one of the biggest brands in the Big Ten. USC has yet to have a signature win in its new conference and could get one if the Trojans can take care of business Saturday in the Coliseum. The crew talks about what USC was able to do during the bye week to get healthy while getting ready for Michigan, what some of the major matchups are against the Wolverines and finish the show with their score predictions for the game. Next up is #15 Michigan as they head cross-country to face a Lincoln Riley-led USC searching for a big win. He wraps up the show by picking the Big 12 game between #21 Arizona State at Utah and a big SEC game as Florida looks to spring another upset, this time on the road at #5 Texas A&M. 0:00-1:16 Intro1:17-4:58 Ohio State vs. Illinois4:59-9:11 Indiana vs. Oregon9:12-14:04 Oklahoma vs. Texas14:05-17:14 Michigan vs. USC17:15-21:28 Alabama vs. Missouri21:29-24:24 Arizona State vs. Utah24:25-30:09 Florida vs. Texas A&M Use my code for 10% off your next SeatGeek order*: https://seatgeek.onelink.me/RrnK/KLATT10Sponsored by SeatGeek. *Restrictions apply. Can USC get their high octane offense in gear against Wink's defense? Will Bryce Underwood and the offense be able to put up enough points to win in a shootout? Joining me with his thoughts on those questions and more is Anthony Broome from The Wolverine ON3
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back to discuss how the Trojans used the bye week to get healthy and prepare for one of the most important games on the schedule, a home contest against the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines. After USC fell to Illinois as a touchdown favorite, Saturday's Coliseum matchup against the powerhouse in Maize and Blue becomes an almost must-win situation for Lincoln Riley's squad, especially with road trip to South Bend on deck. The guys go over some of the key matchups for this game, including a powerful Michigan ground game that could keep Jayden Maiava and the USC offense off the field for long stretches at a time. The Wolverines also rank in the top-20 in most of the major defensive categories, including forced turnovers and passes defensed. If Michigan can slow down the Trojan run game, it could come down to Maiava outdueling the stingy UM secondary. Ryan and Connor really want to the Trojans play a clean football game, limiting the major mistakes and forcing Michigan to outplay and outscore USC in the friendly confines of the Coliseum, far away from Ann Arbor. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back to discuss what they saw from USC in the 34-32 loss at Illinois. It was a disappointing effort from the Men of Troy and they will need to use this bye week to figure out what went wrong and how they can fix it heading into an extremely important home game against Michigan. After rewatching the game, the crew talks about some of the highs that stood out, including incredible performances by Jayden Maiava, Makai Lemon and the tight ends, and the most concerning lows that included poor linebacker play, a lack of pressure from defensive line and poor coverage skills in the secondary. They also give an update from Tuesday's practice, where head coach Lincoln Riley put any rumors of rampant food poisoning that had a major impact on the players to bed, saying that a few guys were affected but it wasn't widespread and it wasn't an excuse for why they played so poorly. They then provide some injury updates including center Kilian O'Connor being out at least two games and running back Bryan Jackson who has no timetable for his return. USC staged a massive comeback in the fourth quarter with a go-ahead score with less than two minutes remaining in the game but allowed a game-winning 41-yard field goal as time expired. Shotgun uses his 'Two-Minute Drill' for his overall thoughts on USC's Saturday loss while Chris talks about his interaction with USC legend and Heisman-winning running back Marcus Allen. The Helium Boys then dive into Stock Up, Stock Down for the Trojans, which includes Makai Lemon's monster performance, Jaydan Maiava's improvements, the lack of impact from USC's defensive line, the tight end impact and Lincoln Riley's clock management in the end. Week 5 brought fireworks across college football, and Get Off My Pylon covers it all. Oregon scored the weekend's signature win, knocking off Penn State in a Happy Valley whiteout that vaulted the Ducks into playoff contention. USC, on the other hand, repeated familiar mistakes, losing late at Illinois as Lincoln Riley's game management came under fire. Arizona State continued its uncanny ability to pull out tight wins, keeping pace in a crowded Big 12. Matt Zemek also reviews Cal, Stanford, San Diego State, Utah, Colorado, and BYU, plus UCLA's disastrous slide. From dramatic overtimes to program-level questions, this week's episode unpacks the shifting balance of power in the Big Ten and beyond. This episode is sponsored in part by TicketSmarter:Use promo code LWOS10 to receive $10 off purchases of $100 or moreUse promo code LWOS20 to receive $20 off purchases of $300 or moreThink smarter. Fox Sports' lead College Football analyst Joel Klatt reacts to the Oregon's huge win in the White Out at Penn State as Dan Lanning's Ducks look primed for a National Championship run. Klatt breaks down why Penn State can bounce back from the heartbreaking loss but recommends a big change in their offense if they are going to finally win one of these big games against a marquee opponent. He then reacts to Alabama's win in Athens as they ended the nation's longest home winning streak with another win over Georgia. Klatt marvels at the change of this Alabama team to bounce back from the early season loss to Florida State and discusses the opportunities missed by the Bulldogs including Kirby Smart's decision to go for it on 4th and 1 in the 4th Quarter that ultimately backfired on Georgia. Klatt then reveals his latest Top 10 and gives his reasoning for his rankings – will Georgia and Penn State stay in the Top 10 after losses? Was Ohio State's impressive win at Washington enough to get the #1 spot? Klatt wraps up the show with thoughts on his game from Saturday as Illinois knocked off USC as time expired – giving credit to Illinois' ability to bounce back while also discussing USC's long-term prospects as they continue to grow under Lincoln Riley. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the latest poor performance for the Trojans on the road, falling to the Fighting Illini 34-32 Saturday morning in Champaign. USC didn't look like it handled the multiple time zone travel and early kickoff very well, despite the team heading out to the Midwest a day early. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on what went wrong for the Trojans on this Big Ten road trip, with an offense that looked like it could do almost anything it wanted and a defense that looked confused and failed to pick up stops time and time again. USC had no business being in the game but somehow mounted a crazy 14-point comeback late, taking a 32-31 lead with under two minutes left in the game. Unfortunately the defense wasn't able to step up and the Trojans lead was short lived with Illinois kicking the game winning field goal as time expired. On the offensive side, Coach Hyde talks about how there shouldn't be any excuses for injuries, football is a physical game and guys get hurt. He wants to see a better rhythm with the offense and let quarterback Jayden Maiava run the football more. On the defensive side Coach Hyde thinks Lincoln Riley was critical of the defense for the first time. A couple of years ago Riley said he would be move involved with the defense but from what we can see, he hasn't been. He is also seeing a lot of confusion when the ball is snapped and guys don't look like they know what they should be doing. It doesn't appear that this group is playing as a cohesive unit and it's hard to win football games without a good defense. Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting. Dan Lanning told Oregon reporter John Canzano prior to the Penn State game that the Ducks were playing cross-country in State College fresh off a rivalry game (vs. Oregon State), while the Nittany Lions were fresh off a bye He also pointed out that Oregon is flying 15,000 miles this season, playing 7 teams with “more prep time” than Oregon has…Lincoln Riley has made the same case at USC….this shouldn't have been anything shocking to these teams coming from the West coast to a conference primarily in the middle of the country and the East coast, though….right? On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio previewing the Trojans late night showdown against Michigan State. The Spartans come into the Coliseum boasting a 3-0 record with quarterback Aidan Chiles playing at a high level and more importantly, not turning the ball over. USC is coming off its first real Big Ten road win at Purdue and will try to secure another conference win before the huge road showdown with No. 9 Illinois. The crew talks about the state of this USC football program heading into the game with an offense that has generated more yards per game than any other program, the most sacks in the country and some concerns in a secondary that has struggled at times and is dealing with multiple injuries. Looking at the Spartans, there are certainly some concerns despite the undefeated record. The defense has been leaking, giving up points to FCS Youngstown State last weekend, and there are multiple major injuries that head coach Jonathan Smith is dealing with. Lincoln Riley faced off with Smith back in 2022 when the Trojans survived an upset bid from Oregon State. Eventual Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams struggled until late, finally putting together a touchdown drive to give USC a 17-14 victory in Corvallis. Smith will try to recreate some of that magic to give the Spartans a shot Saturday night, coming in as a 17.5 point underdog to SC. This is the podcast version of our Tunnel Vision video show. We're calling it "Sock'em in the Mouth Saturday" – and for good reason. Week 4 has all the makings of a weekend where untested favorites get their first real taste of adversity. In this college football podcast episode, we dive deep into how teams might respond facing their first legitimate punch in the mouth. We circle back on games discussed earlier in the week (Texas Tech vs TCU, Auburn vs Oklahoma, Illinois vs Indiana) and pose the most important questions about other marquee matchups in Week 4. Can a struggling Florida team find any answers on the road against a red-hot, in-state rival in Miami? Is this the weekend that Nebraska officially joins the Big Ten and CFP discussion with a win over Michigan? In the Battle for the Iron Skillet, should we expect another 100-point shootout between SMU and TCU, or can either questionable defense find a way to make a game-winning stop? And in a classic "styles make fights" matchup, will Baylor's undeniable offense be enough to overcome its struggling run defense, or can Arizona State control the clock and grind out a win on the road? We ask the important questions for all the biggest matchups. We also hand out our locks of the week (what could go wrong?) and break down why this might be the optimal weekend to plant yourself in front of the TV all afternoon. Fox Sports' Joel Klatt joins The Next Round to break down all things college football in this must-watch interview! From the biggest storylines in the sport to the hottest debates, Klatt brings his expert insight to a jam-packed conversation. Among the topics we discuss:
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and Chris Trevino are back from West Lafayette where they witnessed the USC football team winning a game in the Eastern time zone for the first time since 2012, a 33-17 victory over Big Ten foe Purdue. The Trojans didn't win a true conference road game last season and now get that monkey off their back as the Big Ten schedule begins to heat up. It wasn't the cleanest game for Lincoln Riley and company, with 9 penalties for 104 yards, 4 for 13 on 3rd down conversions and giving up double-digit explosive passing plays to Purdue. But the Trojans were able to make some big plays of their own, including three interceptions with a pick-6 by Jamaal Jarrett, 10 yards per pass attempt by Jayden Maiava, zero punts and a perfect 4 for 4 on fourth down plays. The crew breaks down everything they saw and heard in West Lafayette, including the unexpected three hour weather delay that put all game plans in jeopardy and the importance of picking up a road conference win against a Purdue squad that looks much improved over last season. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio to preview the Trojans first road game and first Big Ten contest of the season, a trip to West Layfette to face Purdue. The 2-0 Boilermakers have already doubled their win total from last season thanks to a complete roster rebuild from new head coach Barry Odom and an upset of the Trojans would be a massive boost for this once proud program. USC took care of business at home, outscoring its overmatched opponents by a combined 99 points. Now head coach Lincoln Riley and company will try to pick up its first true Big Ten road win against Purdue, which would be USC's first victory in the Eastern or Central time zones since 2012. With expectations high for the Trojans in 2025, the goal has to be not only a win in West Layfette, but a resounding victory that lets the conference know the USC football team is for real. Ryan, Connor and India all give their thoughts on how the Trojans will perform at Purdue and give their score predictions. This is the podcast version of our Tunnel Vision video show. FOX Sports' lead College Football analyst Joel Klatt evaluates the state of the Big 12 including which teams he thinks will emerge at the top of the conference and whether it'll be a two-bid league in the College Football Playoff. He then discusses how much can be made of Alabama's blowout win on Saturday following the loss to Florida State and examines the Crimson Tide's uphill path to the Playoff. Klatt reacts to the report that Colorado is making a big change at QB. He also looks at teams and players that aren't getting the attention they deserve including Oregon – who he thinks is the most impressive team in the country so far. Klatt also singles out USC's quietly impressive start to the season and points out a similarity to Lincoln Riley's Oklahoma teams that should give Trojan fans hope for the rest of the season. 0:00-2:55 Intro2:56-16:36 The state of the Big 1216:37-24:37 Alabama bounces back and what does it mean?24:38-30:06 Colorado making a QB change?30:07-47:36 Nobody is talking about…. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back to talk about USC's resounding victory over Georgia Southern Saturday in the Coliseum and the upcoming road matchup with Purdue. The 2-0 Trojans have outscored their opponents by a combined 99 points, but the schedule gets harder with Big Ten play kicking off and the first game away from the friendly confines of the Coliseum on deck. The crew doesn't spend much time on the Clay Helton Bowl, but they give some quick thoughts on how the Trojan passing offense shined and the USC defense faced some challenges against the Eagles. With the team winning by 39 points and coming out of the contest healthy, head coach Lincoln Riley couldn't ask for a much better start to the season heading into the conference slate. The "preseason" is now in the rearview mirror and USC will try to win its first game outside of the Pacific time zone since winning at Colorado in 2023. After winning just one game last season, Purdue is off to a 2-0 start and the Trojans will have to play well to secure its first real Big Ten road victory. The USC 2025 football season is well underway after a Week 2 win over Georgia Southern in the Clay Helton Bowl. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino were both on the sidelines from the Coliseum for a front-row seat to USC's 59-20 win over the Eagles. Trevino and Spratling dive into their 'Two-Minute Drill' with the former taking time to talk about the emotions of seeing Helton once again in the Coliseum while Spratling takes the time to show some extra love for senior defensive end Anthony Lucas recording the first two sacks of his career. The Helium Boys dive into their Stock Up, Stock Down segment, which includes USC's offensive line, the running back room, the duo of Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane and the Trojans' early sack production. The Helium Boys then dive into the second half of the show to preview Purdue, which represent USC's Big Ten opener and first road game of the season. This is a reunion game for a multitude of reasons: USC starting QB Jayden Maiava played under Odom at UNLV in 2023, guiding them to the Mountain West Championship game. Former USC offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Josh Henson left the Trojans this offseason to be the offensive coordinator with the Boilermakers. Henson was part of Lincoln Riley's initial staff in 2022. Former USC wide receiver Charles Ross was on the team but was forced to medically retire. Former USC and Georgia wideout Michael Jackson III is one of the top contributors. The podcasting duo then answer your questions about everything from the recruiting impact of USC's 2-0 start to double coverage potentials to Caleb Williams' reputation. Following the questions, Chris takes the reins for the 'Take It or Leave It' segment along with the 'Overtime' period, which includes Amelia Earhart, Purdue Pete, a special boilermaker and a live mascot discussion. We release new episodes of the Peristyle Podcast nearly every day during the season. National recruiting analyst Gerard Martinez, longtime coach and football guru Harvey Hyde, reporters Chris Trevino, Connor Morrissette and Shotgun Spratling plus special guests join publisher Ryan Abraham on the podcast to bring you the latest USC Trojan football team news and recruiting information. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Shotgun Spratling, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio to preview the Trojans second game of a season, a matchup with a very familiar face that roamed the Coliseum sidelines for over a decade. The Clay Helton bowl is finally here, with Georgia Southern (0-1) coming to town to take on the Trojans (1-0) as a 28.5-point underdog. Last week USC boat raced an overmatched Missouri State squad, putting up 73 points and winning by 60. Georgia Southern flew all the way to Fresno only to get a second half beatdown by the Bulldogs, giving up 351 rushing yards and losing by 28 points. Even though this is the second-straight week of facing a lower level opponent, the Trojans should be highly motivated to put on a show against Clay Helton's squad. For years USC football fans wanted the administration to move on from Helton, and by the time they made the move and brought in Lincoln Riley the football program was in a bad spot, having gone 4-8 in the final season Helton started as head coach. USC appears to be back on the right track now, but between the fans upset at the Helton years and the staff knowing the huge hole they needed to dig out of, motivation should not be a factor in Saturday's contest in the Coliseum. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back to discuss the successful 2025 season opener against Missouri State with the Trojans putting a historic beatdown on the former FCS program 73-13. Now the focus shifts to Georgia Southern, a step-up in the caliber of opponent but still not a true test for a USC football team with higher aspirations than just making a decent bowl. The crew gives a few thoughts on what they took away from the week one victory, focusing mostly on younger Trojans, including true freshman Husan Longstreet, getting an opportunity for early development with significant playing time against live competition. With former USC head coach Clay Helton coming into the Coliseum this weekend, Ryan, Connor and India give their thoughts on what sort of reaction the crowd will have and how this USC football team will respond, knowing that a significant portion of the fanbase is looking for a similar result to last weekend against MSU. In their first game the Eagles looked good in the first half against Fresno State before falling apart in the second half. Helton and company are staying in California and are looking for a much better performance in week two, something Lincoln Riley will try to prevent from happening. After talking about this matchup, the hosts will discuss other notes around the USC football program including a few players retuning from injury and the reaction to removing the "drip check" from the Trojan Walk. Martin Weiss and Zach Harper open the show with their reactions to Arch Manning's lackluster debut against Ohio State... Was it a bad game, or a bad sign? Is Ohio State the best team in the country? Then they get into the blockbuster NFL trade that sent Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers... Is all of the outrage toward Jerry Jones warranted? The guys also react in real time to Clemson vs. LSU, breaking down the action intermittently throughout the show! They also set the stage for Belichick's debut, and debate which college football coach is on the hottest seat this year: Brian Kelly, Lincoln Riley, or Kalen DeBoer? Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back together for a special behind-the-scenes edition of the Helium Boys Podcast. The Helium Boys work through the process of compiling and debating a post-fall camp re-rank of USCfootball.com's Top 30 Most Important Trojans' list. For the last six seasons, the USCfootball.com staff has counted down the Top 30 Most Important Trojans in a series of offseason articles leading up to the kickoff of fall camp. Each year under Lincoln Riley, the USC roster has seen significant turnover each year making it a bit of a guessing game trying to figure out who is going to play and how valuable they are going to be toward the team's success, so we've incorporated a re-rank when the Trojans' football team makes the transition from fall camp to game preparation in the week leading up to the season opener. Each USCfootball.com staff member submits his own list of whom he/she believes will be the most important Trojans. Considerations for the rankings take in a wide range of factors including positional depth, 2024 stats, overall talent, departures from the previous season, projected development and expectations. The only guidance we try to follow is that the most important factor for placement is if this particular player was lost for the season, how detrimental would it be to the team and the overall success of the season. The individual lists are submitted and compiled before Shotgun and Chris come together to sift through the information, debate and assemble the official USCfootball.com rankings. In this podcast, the Helium Boys give you a peek behind the curtain, allowing you to listen in on the re-rankings discussion as we sift, sort and come up with the final preseason rankings. The re-rank includes several risers on the defensive side of the ball, including offensive linemen Tobias Raymond and Justin Tauanuu, as well as players whose importance declined whether through an inability to lock up a starting role or the emergence of other players. It's officially Week 1! Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back behind the microphones for another edition of the Helium Boys Podcast to break down USC's Week 1 opponent: Missouri State, which will be making its debut at the FBS level. The show kicks off with the patented 'Two-Minute Drill' with Trevino commenting on Lincoln Riley's comments on Trojans Live about the starting lineup along the offensive line. Shotgun talks about his excitement for the start of the season, and his hurried travel plans this past weekend in Georgia. The Helium Boys then take their first official preview of the 2025 season with Missouri State. Missouri State wasn't a world beater at the FCS level with just four playoff appearances since 1989 and a 30-26 record since 2020. The Bears are projected to be among the bottom of Conference USA with a win projection between 5.4-6.7 per ESPN's Football Power Index. It's been an emotional offseason for the Bears program after the death of senior safety Todric McGee in spring from an accidental gunshot wound. McGee was projected to be a starter in the secondary, leaving a huge loss in the defense and program.
