Host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Maceky to react to a busy week in Pittsburgh sports news, which included the release of the Steelers' schedule on Wednesday night. Is the NFL signaling that it expects Aaron Rodgers will ultimately sign with the team by creating a Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets, his former squad? How intrigued should we be by an early meeting with former Steelers QB Justin Fields? And is it a good thing or a bad thing that coach Mike Tomlin and Co. will face another late-season gauntlet with games against the Super Bowl-contending Bills, Ravens and Lions? Our duo tackles those questions, plus Jason's reaction to what we saw from names including Derrick Harmon, Will Howad, Kaleb Johnson and Jack Sawyer at rookie minicamp. Then on other fronts, they discuss the Penguins coaching search and College Football Playoff expansion. Is Washington Capitals assistant Mitch Love a name that should be high on fans' list? And is the ACC right in fighting the Big Ten and SEC proposals for how the playoff will look moving forward? Then in the third segment, airing on the PG's Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason react to Jason's interview with Pirates owner Bob Nutting following the firing of manager Derek Shelton last week. Does Nutting have any actual power to improve the Pirates' economic disadvantage against teams like the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees? Why did he fire Shelton but not GM Ben Cherington, who's also struggled in his role? Has Nutting oversold the impact of injuries to names like Spencer Horwitz and Jared Jones on the team's slow start? What can be done to get names like Bryan Reynolds back on track? And is it past time that Bubba Chandler was promoted to the big leagues?

Beamer and Austin with you on this Tuesday! The guys open the show getting into some of the Gameday changes Ross Bjork wants to bring to Ohio State and the Shoe. The NFL is trying to take over College Football scheduling games on the start of the College Football Playoff. At the bottom of the hour, we are joined by 10TV's own Adam King. Then we hit the trail and get an update on recruiting for the Ohio State football team. At the top of the hour, we hit the College Football Pulse with who is the Ohio State football teams "most important" game and the NCAA President being cool with President Trump creating commission. Next, Patrick Murphy surprises the guys with an in-person visit and he joins the guys to talk what he's working on for Buckeye Football. At the bottom of the hour, Jeremy Birmingham catches the guys up on some more recruiting and gives some names to keep an eye on. #Buckeyes and more!
Even we beat writers who typically prefer noon games believe Ohio State vs. Texas should be a night game. With how spectacular the atmosphere was for Ohio State's home night College Football Playoff game against Tennessee, we want to see another primetime showcase for the Buckeyes' season opener against the Longhorns. That doesn't seem to be in the cards, however – unsurprisingly – with FOX set to broadcast the Cotton Bowl rematch, likely at noon.As such, Ohio State finds itself facing the possibility of playing most of its big regular-season games at noon once again this year, though we do believe Ohio State vs. Penn State is a prime candidate for the marquee home night game Ohio State and its fans covet. But we'd love to see more transparency with the Big Ten television networks' game selection process – which could be easily achieved by televising the networks' game draft during a time on the calendar when sickos like us are starved for more college football content.Eleven Warriors' Dan Hope, Chase Brown and Garrick Hodge share their thoughts on the season opener's likely noon destiny, our kickoff time predictions for the rest of the season and how the networks could bring fans into the game selection process on a new episode of Press Coverage, which is also available on the Real Pod Wednesdays feed for this episode.

We chat with Ruiz about his journey to become USC's Spanish play by play announcer, what some of his most memorable moments have been and his favorite calls from the booth. We also solicited questions from The Peristyle (the USCFootball.com message board) that we share with Ruiz at the end of the interview. Following the interview both Ryan and Connor will give their thoughts on USC hiring Trumain Carroll from Kansas State to be the new director of football sports performance, replacing Bennie Wylie. Carroll was well liked in Manhattan by the Wildcats staff and fans and could be a big boost for the Trojan football team going forward. The guys also discuss all of the news and notes around USC football recruiting including commitments from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star linebacker Shaun Scott and San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon three-star linebacker Taylor Johnson. They also talk about a bold prediction from Chip Patterson on CBS's Cover 3 podcast where he foresaw the 2025 USC Trojans getting over the hump and making the College Football Playoffs for the very first time. This past weekend, I found myself back in Seattle for the 10th straight year, hosting A Night with Cougar Athletics. While every year has its own unique vibe, this one stood out - it was truly unlike any of the previous 9.Welcome to this week's episode of the Y-Option Podcast, presented by our founding partner, 76. We're thrilled to welcome new Washington State head football coach Jimmy Rogers, who joins the show to share his coaching philosophy, stories from his Arizona upbringing, and why he believes the Cougs have a real shot at the College Football Playoff.Coach Rogers and I sat on stage in front of 400 loyal Cougs, where he echoed a powerful message shared earlier in the evening by Athletics Director Anne McCoy and new university president Dr. Elizabeth Cantwell - this is the Next Chapter for Washington State. No longer just the underdog with a chip on its shoulder, WSU is now a face of the new Pac-12. Alongside Oregon State, Pullman is stepping boldly into this next era - guided by a clear vision and the leadership of Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould. The message? The Cougs can win and will lead in a conference that's bold, aggressive, intentional, and open-minded.I think Cougs everywhere will love hearing from Coach Rogers. He's already instilled his culture and leadership style into the program. And yes, while the team will feature nearly 70 new faces when the season kicks off, don't sleep on this squad. Washington State has a chance to make serious noise in this final transitional year before the Pac-12 returns to a full conference slate in 2026.
Chuck and Heath discuss the NFL scheduling even more aggressively against the first round of the College Football Playoff this season. Shea Dixon of the Bengal Tiger looks at LSU football. Mike Craven of Dave Campbell's Texas Football analyzes SMU and other state of Texas teams. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

College football is considering a 16-team playoff, and to start this Kings of the North, Doug Lesmerises and Bill Landis break down what that would mean for the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12 and ACC, and how it would affect fans from when it comes to scheduling and getting more great college football games in a season. Then it's the first KOTN Showdown of the offseason, as Doug and Bill compare two similar Northern programs and decide who they would rather be in 2025. To kick it off, it's a rematch of a College Football Playoff semifinal from 2025 and two programs with real national title goals -- Notre Dame and Penn State. Finally, the Bill Belichick mess at North Carolina leads to a discussion about what other teams can learn from it, and the audience chimes in on some Perfect QB and All-Transfer team picks from last week. Thanks for joining Kings of the North.
