NFL.com just released its 2026 divisional quarterback rankings, and the NFC South landed dead last — with Bryce Young singled out as the swing factor. The verdict was familiar: talented, but too inconsistent to trust on a weekly basis heading into his third year under Dave Canales. In this episode, we're breaking down that ranking, why it might be missing the bigger picture, and what's actually happening behind the scenes in Charlotte that could define the next five years of Panthers football.First, the counterpoint. The entire NFC South got dinged, not just Bryce — and in 2025, Young posted career highs across the board: 63.6% completion percentage, 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns, and a playoff berth that delivered Carolina's first NFC South title since 2015. He also came one defensive stop away from a second straight playoff upset against the best roster in football. The "highs and lows" critique isn't wrong, but it's only half the story. Then there's the wrinkle nobody's talking about: Taylor Moton. At 31 years old and entering his 10th season, Moton was just named one of 21 NFL players whose PFF grade has climbed for three consecutive years running — from a career-low 69.3 in 2022 all the way up to 80.5 in 2025. He's played in 129 of 134 possible games since becoming a full-time starter. While the league focuses on Bryce, Carolina's right tackle is quietly having the best stretch of his career at an age when most linemen are declining. That sets up the real thesis of this episode: what if Carolina's blueprint is already sitting in the building? Philadelphia built a championship around Jalen Hurts using an elite, aging offensive line to buy a young quarterback time to develop. Carolina has the early shape of that exact model — Moton up front, Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis controlling the interior, and a young QB who has already shown flashes of the poise that model requires. Monroe Freeling, this year's first-round pick, gives the front office insurance at either tackle spot whenever Moton's window closes — and there's a real cap decision looming, with $14.5 million in savings on the table if Moton is released next offseason, right as Bryce becomes extension-eligible.Which brings us to the Brunson question. In 2024, Jalen Brunson left $113 million on the table to give the Knicks cap flexibility — and 14 months later he was hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy as Finals MVP. Could a below-market Bryce Young extension be the move that lets Carolina retain Jalen Coker, extend the receiver room, and build the roster around him the same way? Finally, we go inside the building with former Panthers tight end Dominic Daphne, who spent last summer in Canales' system. He breaks down why this tight end room doesn't need a single star to be dangerous, what makes the offense so detail-obsessed in the offseason program, and what he says is the most underrated part of Bryce Young's game.Subscribe and hit the bell — this is the conversation Panthers fans need to be having heading into camp. Keep Pounding.
