Imagine the joy that the followers of Jesus must have experienced on Resurrection Sunday, and in the days to follow. Seeing Him alive after such a horrible death must have made their hopes come alive once again as well. Before ascending to the Father, Jesus commissioned His disciples to go, preach the good news, and make disciples. That's our calling as well. We all have an idea in our heads about what Jesus was like. Compassionate, approachable. As we turn to Mark chapter 11, we see Jesus angry. And that seems strange. What could have possibly made Jesus angry enough to clear out the Temple court by the end of a whip? This event is the subject of our study today, so lets listen as we join Pastor Phil.

We're nearing the crescendo of the Gospel story, and today Jesus enters Jerusalem en route, ultimately to the cross. Now, this didn't just happen to be the day of Jesus arrival, but this specific day was picked out, and prophesied long ago. Lets join Pastor Phil in Mark chapter 11 as he explains.

There are those who seem to have everything; wealth, prestige, power…and you'd think, a good measure of happiness. As we'll learn from a rich, young ruler's encounter with Jesus, these things don't bring true satisfaction to the soul, as you might think! For ages, there has been some dispute in regard to the issue of baptism, how should one be baptized, sprinkled or immersed. Is it necessary for one to be baptized in order to be saved? Pastor Phil will discuss this subject today, as we continue in Marks Gospel, chapter 10.

Children tend to be a lot of things; innocent, trusting, impressionable. And often these qualities make them uniquely qualified to be used of the Lord…As we'll see in our text today, children who wanted to get close to the Lord provided an object lesson for His disciples. It was amazing to see Moses and Elijah, meeting with Jesus on the mount. But their job may not have been done at that point. There is a possibility that they will have yet another task ahead of them. Among the great tragedies in Scripture are the Scribes and Pharisees, who, though teachers of the Law of God, seemed to be unable to recognize the living Word of God, even when He walked among them. Have you ever been misunderstood because of your faith in Jesus? Ever been turned away, even by those in your own family, or by your closest friends? We're glad you're with us! Today we begin a brand new series, studying the Gospel of Mark. It's always a good thing to spend time looking at the life and ministry of our Savior, Jesus Christ. So, let's go ahead and jump into our verse-by-verse study of Mark's Gospel, beginning in chapter 1, verse 1.

As the time for the coming of the Messiah drew near, it was important that the people be made ready for His arrival. That was the role and purpose of John the Baptizer; the forerunner of the Savior. So, as he proclaimed the coming One, he also made sure the people's hearts were truly ready, not just to meet, but to receive Jesus when He came.

Throughout His ministry, people wrestled with Who Jesus was; rabbi, preacher, prophet - or, was He something more than that/ In our text today, we'll see that, for some, there was no question who Jesus was.

The disciples had grown up learning the Law of Moses - it was a part of them. In following Jesus, they had also come to discover the spirit, and not just the letter of the God's Law. There were those who'd not yet made that discovery, and they took issue with the Lord, and His disciples.
