This Gospel reading contains the miraculous event when Jesus satisfied a hungry crowd of 5000+ with five loaves and two fish. Leading up to this miracle we learn of Jesus' compassion for people in need. Compassion, which is not merely a feeling of sympathy, but also a response of mercy toward sinners.

There are people around you who have or will come to ask questions, reach conclusions, and give advice that should be as irrelevant to you as they were to Jesus. In the encounter we look at today, Jesus disciples came to conclusions, asked questions, and rendered advice that Jesus completely disregarded. What was the basis for Jesus dismissing the questions and conclusions thrown at Him by people who loved Him? To understand this will help you in knowing what should or shouldn’t move you when you are in the same situation with the people around you. This might be questions and conclusions regarding your health, your money, your car, what house you might buy, or what job you should or shouldn’t take. The list here could go on, but understand how Jesus dealt with such things and this list will become much easier for you.
