Thoughts on theology and life lived together at SGC Marlton.
Doctrine matters, and today, Jason and Warren talk about the reasons why that is so true and relevant as they discuss our Statement of Faith. Enjoy!
Warren and Jason engage the all-important question: may one listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving...or not? On a more serious note, they tackle the very timely and relevant question of social media use and misuse, its effects and implications. Don't miss!
It's been a while since the last podcast, but now on the doorstep of Thanksgiving holiday, Warren and Jason take some time to reflect on how Christians can love and relate well to one another when "normal" life has been disrupted.
It was our privilege last week to have pastor Cedric Brown of Commitment Community Church in Lindenwold, NJ join us for the podcast, Yes, there was some talk of sports--the footballish kind--but the guys engaged an important discussion about the implications of the gospel of Jesus Christ for how the Church can walk through issues of race and injustice with actual, Christian love. Not to be missed...
In our sermon series in the book of James, this past week's sermon text included James 1:19, "...let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger..." This past week has been full of change and challenge, and Jason and Warren discuss the importance of listening and seeking to understand the times.
These have been challenging weeks, and Jason and Warren talk through how we as God's people can think clearly and soberly about the hard things related to the sin of racism as it impacts our nation and the Church.
In this episode Jason and Warren briefly lament sore muscles, bad knees and the degredation of Warren's vertical leap since his younger basketball-playing days. On a serious note, the guys dig in to some of the practical theology surrounding how our church and the broader Body of Christ thinks about reopening in the age of Covid 19 and how to handle disagreements and strong perspectives among those you love and respect. Don't miss it! (Note: the slight "pop" is mysteriously back in the audio mix, we're a-working on a solution, but apologies for that.)
For a change this week, we put Warren in the interviewer's seat and he got to ask Jason almost all the questions. If you or anyone you know is walking a path of long-term trial and suffering, you won't be at all disappointed in the thoughtful, real and incisive answers that come from their interaction. A bit longer than usual this week, but worth every extra minute.
We're kicking off an exciting new sermon series in the book of James! Warren and Jason also reflect on how to respond to a variety of the unique pressures and realities of these turbulent days in a decidedly Christian way. Take a break, slap on your favorite pair of earbuds or headphones and have a listen!
Just as you and I begin to get used to certain kinds of changes, there comes talk of yet new changes, with new implications and decisions to make. In light of these and other unknowns coming down the pike, Jason and Warren discuss a range of Christian responses to fear and change, reflecting on this past Sunday's excellent sermon from guest speaker, Mark Prater. (You may also hear the odd reference to professional sports along the way, which has been known to happen on this podcast...)
Warren and Jason tackle the question of what a person "should" (or shouldn't) be doing with his or her time in the midst of this unprecedented season of challenge and disruption to our lives. Also, some solid theological talk about God's providence and a wee bit of reflection on sports that aren't/didn't/won't be happening anytime soon. (Please excuse the slight "pop" on Warren's audio--we're still learning the ropes of remote recording and hope to have that fixed for Episode 15!)
We are still in the "I Am" series, where Jesus tells us exactly who he is and what that means. And it means a lot for us in these challenging days! Warren's sermon from John 10 and all other streamed Sunday services are available through the SGC Info Hub. There, you'll also find important and regular updates on our church's response to Covid-19.
So much can change in a week, and much has. Jason and Warren put their minds to unwrapping some of the implications of the days we are in, and how we can do so with faith and hope and love. Also, a lot of good, timely info is available at the SGC Info Hub, including past messages.
Warren and Jason pull off this episode from two different locations (thanks to COVID-19 social distancing), but you'd never guess that was the case (thanks to our excellent, intrepid sound editor). It's chock-full of insights about the kickoff of our new "I Am" sermon series, some thoughts on the virus and also some keen insights from Warren's Sunday sermon from John 6:22-40. These are very good days to be hearing the words of Jesus! Also, to get regular updates on all things related to COVID-19's impact on our church and access online streaming of this Sunday's sermon, don't forget the SGC Info Hub here.
What a day 3/13/2020 has been! The guys reflect on the ending of our recent sermon series this past Sunday and look forward to the next one. Also, for those looking for the lastest information about the Coronavirus, you can click here and get caught up.
Our "What's Love Got to Do With It" sermon series is wrapping up soon, and Warren and Jason talk about this past Sunday's sermon in Ephesian 4:1-3 and the gracious, rescuing role of correction in the Christian life. The guys also go "viral," as in reflecting how believers can marshal a sound, Christian response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and its impacts near and far.
We don't mean that we should "love less," but what do we do when we find ourselves tending to be more "loveless"--lacking in forgiving, forbearing love for one another? Warren and Jason interact with this and other ideas related to Andrew Kalvelage's excellent sermon this past Sunday.
Sunday's sermon by Jason Reyes focused on the idea of "Building Love" from Ephesians 4:29, so the guys discuss the amazing impact--both constructive and destructive--of our words. Warren "The Chair Guy" Boettcher also recalls his glory days as a member of the church's setup ministry and the joys of service in the church, then the exciting news about our friend Tim Shorey's new book release, Respect the Image (P&R Publishing). We don't say it often, but we will today: you don't want to miss this episode!
It's not even March Madness yet, but Jason and Warren are discussing issues in Major League baseball? Go figure. However, some great reflection on this past Sunday's sermon on Serving Love and what it means when we really see and respond with compassion to those in need. Enjoy!
Chiefs win the Superbowl. Jason and Warren reflect on an important question: did the Chiefs win or did the 49ers simply play not to lose? The guys touch on some other important things related to this theme of loving one another, especially brothers and sisters in Christ. You can get the sermon here, if you missed it.
Warren and Jason share some thoughts about what it means when a significant public figure dies. Also, some talk about vineyards and pruning and abiding based on Andrew Kalvelage’s excellent message this past Sunday from John chapter 15. Then, some transition news and conversation surrounding what's in store for SGC's Resolved ministry this year.
In this episode, Jason and Warren touch on this past Sunday's sermon, "Obeying Love" and unpack some of the tensions of God's grace and Christian liberty, along with talk about some other great stuff. Jason also mentions a few solid resources for engaging God's Word regularly and fruitfully, and you can access those here.
In this second episode, Jason is grieving because the Ravens lost, and Warren tenderly comforts him...sort of. The guys also touch on some important things such as SGC Marlton's annual Prayer and Fast and additional thoughts from last Sunday's sermon on "Saving Love."
Warren and Jason jump right into this episode with a good discussion of the current sermon series, "What's Love Got To Do With It?" They also set some ground rules for civil speech regarding one another's sports team preferences. We hope that you enjoy this first-ever podcast for SGC Marlton, and don't forget to subscribe to it and tell others that podcasting for our church is now a real thing! The link to the helpful book Warren mentions, The Common Rule, can be accessed by clicking here.
