The Lessons Of The Next Step • 1-18-26 PM • Pastor Grant Garber

What happens after God calls us to rebuild? We take the next step—with courage. This Sunday in our REBUILD series, we’re in Nehemiah 2, where Nehemiah moves from prayer to action. With courage and faith, he steps forward into what God has placed on his heart—even when the risks are real. Discussion Questions: What was encouraging, challenging, or comforting from this past week's sermon? In verses 1-5 of ch 2, Nehemiah finally speaks to the king about the burden he’s been carrying. Does anything stand out to you about the timing of the sharing that happens (after prayer/waiting)? When the king asks Nehemiah what he wants (vv. 4–8), Nehemiah prays quickly and then speaks clearly. What does this moment show us about the connection between prayer and courage? When have you had to take a step before feeling fully ready? Nehemiah faced opposition almost immediately in verses 9–10, despite being obedient in following the Lord - Why do you think resistance so often shows up right when we start moving forward? How have you seen that play out in your own walk with God? Nehemiah ultimately steps into his calling because “the gracious hand of my God was upon me” (v. 8, v. 18). Don't forget Jesus who perfectly trusted the Father, faced opposition, and took the ultimate step to bring restoration? What might it look like you to follow the Savior and to take a next step of faith right now—not the whole rebuild, just the next faithful step?

Get Curious About Your Internal World When life feels overwhelming, it's not just about a to-do list. Sometimes resistance comes from fear—of failure, disapproval, or making a mistake. We share powerful tools like brain dumping and identifying your internal vs. external work so you can get unstuck and take your next step with clarity. Small Steps Can Shift Everything Healing and change don't require massive leaps. A 2% shift—whether that's taking a breath, letting go of perfectionism, or asking, “Who do I want to be today?”—can redirect your day and your life. Start small, stay curious, and trust that God is with you in every step.
