Three friends (and sometimes more) rewatch every episode of Digimon: Digital Monsters, and come up with theories as to how any of it makes sense
*taps feed* Hello? Is this thing on? Hey sorry if you saw something new on the feed and thought there was a new ep out, nothing that exciting, just… the last episode of Tri just aired in the US and I wanted to talk a bit about how I felt about it. So if you’ve got 20 minutes and want some kind of rambley stream-of-consciousness thoughts about the whole of Digimon Adventure Tri, I guess it’s your lucky day! Oh, the title has nothing to do with anything I talk about, it’s just a line read that got used a lot in ep 6 that I thought was funny.
and he brought his band with him
Also Kari for real dies and is replaced
Puppetmon had a gun at the time, TK did not care at all
Hot off Episode 41 and some absolute garbage that you can totally listen to if you really want, Tyler, Jules, and Joel pour more drinks and dive into Episode 42, Under Pressure (Japanese title: Whamon of the Silent Ocean Floor, DVD title: Thank You Whamon). Along the way: Impromptu Karaoke, Important Fish Revelations, Meet Sid and Phil: Star Wars Fanatics, Koushiro Izumi: Amoral Biohacker, Where Did All These Divermon Come From?, Mouthful of WarGraymon, Live Poetry Composition, The Podcast Comes Undone by the Telephone
Live from Jules' dining room, the entire Moncast crew gets together for an episode they were all kind of dreading that turned out to be pretty good, actually. Episode 41- "Seasick and Tired", JP title "The Hardened King of the Seas! MetalSeadramon!", DVD Title "Revenge of Metal Seadramon"
It's a bonus episode! Jules invites Tyler and Joel over to her house to watch some Digimon, but it was just a trick to get them to watch Summer Wars with her instead. But it's a really good movie so they're pretty cool with it. If you have a copy of the movie, feel free to watch along!
It's the most filler of filler
Goodbye, family dynamics and characterisation. We will miss you.
It's time, once again, for Fanfiction Radio Theater, your home for all the drama, excitement, and inexplicable storytelling that can only come from the unlicensed use of copyrighted characters by amateur authors unconstrained by editors, publishers, or basic rules of writing.
Prophecies about the devil, ominous chanting, and a ship to last through the ages are what's in store for us as we watch episode 38 - "Prophecy", JP title "Revival! The Demon Lord VenomVamdemon", DVD title "Venom Myotismon, The Beast"
He beat up a poor defenseless ghost, the monster
with a lot of shipping talk
Happy birthday Tyler. A little over a year ago you started this trainwreck of a podcast and to show our appreciation, here's an episode we recorded entirely on our own, without you holding us back. I'm pretty sure it's the best one we've done yet. (Note: This was recorded, like, 2 months ago, and I only just now got around to editing it because I'm the worst. Never leave us alone again, Tyler, this all falls apart without you!)
It involves a cat running REALLY far away and nobody seems to care
Tyler's moving and for his hubris has been deprived of Internet, so Jules and Joel try to keep the podcast going without him. And boy oh boy does it keep going. And going. We briefly discuss the synopsis for the next episode of Tri before digging into another episode in which our heroes do nothing but travel for 20 minutes, but somehow it's still a refreshing change of pace from usual. The lack of a desert might have something to do with it. Oh, also Joel shares a harrowing tale of corruption, betrayal, and hard life lessons in rural America. It's guaranteed to set more kids straight than the cumulative efforts of D.A.R.E.
So, it turns out trying to sync up two Australians with sporadic work schedules and an 8-to-5-er in the States is really tough sometimes, so we haven't recorded in a while. That sucks, so as an apology for the missed eps, I threw together a little... bonus... episode, made entirely of clips from our backup recording that were never meant for the podcast itself. If you've ever wondered what happens in the three-and-a-half hours that we DON'T record for your enjoyment, now's your chance to find out. (Also see if you can guess which episode this is from. It's really fucking easy to tell.)
then again I can't remember what I did yesterday, so maybe not
meanwhile WereGarurumon chops a mountain in half because he can
Joel watched the English dub of Tri. Now he's telling you what he thought of it. Mild random spoilers for something that's already been more aggressively spoiled on this show before.
We dive into one of the major highlights of the series, Episode 21 "Home Away From Home" or "Koromon, the Great Clash in Tokyo!"
Join us for the first Digital Moncast Bonus Episode, which has nothing to do with Digimon! My mum decided she wanted to try out Pokémon GO and suggested we do it together, and she happily agreed that I should record it. This is what ensued.
We reach the conclusion of our second story arc, and see our first real Ultimate level member of the team in episode 20 - "The Earthquake of Metalgreymon" or "Evolution to Perfect! Metalgreymon"
We're back from an accidental week break to bring you episode 19 - "The Prisoner of the Pyramid" or "Nanomon of the Labyrinth". It's a long one, so buckle in.
The 3 of us deal with the worst mentor ever who may possibly be a Time Lord in episode 18 of Digimon Adventure, "The Piximon Cometh" or "The Fairy! Picklemon!" This time around: Digimon death count is at 6, Joe is a secret racist, Piximon refuses to feed starving children, Tai taught himself to ride a bike (literally), invisible dinosaurs, Piximon actually lives inside a TARDIS, and Gomamon uses his interdimensional fish powers to cook dinner.
We leave the terror of SkullGreymon behind us as we board a cruise ship into insanity. This weeks episode is "The Crest of Sincerity" or in Japan "Illusive Captain Cockatrimon"
We finally get to a truly good episode of the show, and Tai is revealed to be the true monster of the show the whole time! This week we watched episode 16 - "The Arrival of SkullGreymon" or in Japan "Dark Evolution! SkullGreymon!"
The 3 of us dig into episode 15 - "The Dark Network of Etemon" or in Japan "Etemon! The Stage Mounting of Evil" in which we meet the best and/or worst character ever. Depends who you ask. Also the Aussie segment is back! Still no real ending or beginning because I honestly just sync the tracks and leave it to end whenever we stopped the recording. Also I'm lazy, but don't talk about that.
Jules is back after missing the finale of the last arc (she didn't miss much) and we're also joined by Digimon virgin guest buddy Steve, who knows nothing about the show except for what we've said on the podcast, for the first episode in the new arc! Except not much happens. Sorry.
Jules had something on and so she missed the end of the first arc. No biggy, because it wasn't a great episode anyway. Instead we invited our buddy Greg to watch episode 13 - "The Legend of the DigiDestined" or "Angemon Wakes!" This time around we get: TK's New and Improved voice, Leomon learns to teleport, Sniper Garurumon, the giant devil, we learn where black gears come from I guess?, seriously though the devil is huge, Angemon's skin tight white bodysuit, we manage to set a new TTR (Time To Ryo) record, and as Jules missed out on our pre-recording traditions, she instead sent us her pre-recorded opinion on the New and Improved Arnott's Shapes. She's mostly right, except for one small thing.
We jump in to episode 12 "DigiBaby Boom" or "Adventure! Patamon and I", probably the first episode so far I would describe as truly bad (really it was awful). Highlights are: Us spending 30 minutes before recording teaching Joel about Australia, because we really wanted to put off talking about this terrible episode, I mistake TK for Patamon and vice versa numerous time (even after being corrected I continue to mess it up), animation errors within the first 10 seconds of the episode, Elecmon's "fishing" technique, magical eggs having an instruction booklet written in "digicode" (it's Japanese), magical cribs, dad Elecmon, we manage a surprisingly long TTR (Time To Ryo), the two digimon wikis have beef, and our most exciting sign-off yet!
Spooky ghosts abound in episode 11 - "The Dancing Digimon" or "The Dancing Ghosts! Bakemon". This time we have: Sexy pyramids, creepy facemasks, creepy bird laughs, we accidentally create an entire timeline in which all the digidestined fall into horrible depression after the death of Ikkakumon, I manage to canonically and factually answer a listener question (it's true), we also confirm that the digital world is also the morphing grid, there's terrible ghost rhyming, WHERE DID THAT CRATE COME FROM, and we all express our love for Gomamon. He's the best.
We're back to the original digi-crew of 3 to get down and dirty with episode 10 - "A Clue from the Digi-Past" or "Kentarumon the Guardian!"
No Jules this time, but I'm joined by Joel and guest buddy Gorge to watch episode 9 - "Subzero Ice Punch" or "Clash! The Freezing Digimon", in which there are no technical hiccups whatsoever. Disregard what you may have heard.
This week it's back to just the three of us with no guests (after the experience our guests had last time) as we watch through episode 8 - "Evil Shows His Face" or "Devimon! The Messenger of Darkness" in which we finally get to meet the villain of our 13 episode arc. In episode 8.
No Joel this week, but we have Jules, former guest Tal, and infamous new guest Luke to talk about episode 7 - "Ikakkumon's Harpoon Torpedo" OR "Roar! Ikakkumon" (alternate title "Who's this asshole?")
Jules returns and we're joined by new guest Zack for our most cactus filled adventure yet This time we cover episode 6 - "Togemon in Toy Town" or in Japan, "Palmon Angrily Evolves"
So we're back from our week off to get into episode 5 - "Kabuterimon's Electro Shocker" or in Japan "Lightning! Kabuterimon" Unforunately no Jules this time, so instead we have our friend Sam again (you may remember him from episode 3, even though he doesn't seem to)
Jules returns (on her birthday!) as we get to most terrifying episode yet, Episode 4 - Biyomon Gets Firepower or in Japan, Scorching Heat! Birdramon.
