Season 02 / Episode 08 How do we deal with life “between seasons”? How do we properly orient ourselves when roles, relationships and responsibilities change? And how do we stay focused on being and making disciples amidst these changes? In this episode, Mike helps Nate process these questions as he navigates “life in between”. They discuss identity, gifting, fruitfulness, and seeking God's kingdom no matter what. (Recorded June 2022)

Season 02 / Episode 05 It seems fair to say that “vision” is an important dynamic of leadership. But what do we mean when we use that term? And what does it look like to have a healthy relationship between leadership and vision? In this episode, Mike and Nate offer answers to those questions, explore misunderstandings of the term “vision”, and discuss the importance of communication and integrity when pursuing vision. (Recorded May 2022)
Season 02 / Episode 04 A common understanding in Western culture of what it is to be a leader is an especially talented front person who carries with them a special, world-changing vision. This combination sets them apart from “ordinary people” and, when success is added to the mix, the result is often elevation to celebrity status. The American Church is not immune to to this behavior; in fact, history proves that they have succumbed to it time and time again with disappointing and destructive consequences. The question is: “Why”? In this episode, Mike and Nate talk about ambition, approval, breaking free of the culture we've created, and learning to lead without losing our humanity. (Recorded April 2022)
Season 02 / Episode 03 As a follow-up to the discussion on “stimulus and response” from Episode 1 of this season, Mike and Nate process some recent experiences from Nate's life. Their conversation highlights the importance of rhythms and rest, the reality that few of us got real rest during the COVID-19 lockdown, the impacts of “data distraction” on our (spiritual) lives, and what it might take for us to regularly see Jesus. Confused? Just have a listen; it'll make sense in the end. (Recorded April 2022)
Season 02 / Episode 02 God and the Gospel are unchanging, but societies and cultures are changing constantly. One of the challenges to helping people follow Jesus in nominally-Christian and post-Christian cultures is generally low engagement with the Bible. “Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.” (Romans 10:17, NLT) One of the principle ways in which people hear the Good News is from the Bible. But how will they hear it if they aren't engaging with it? In this episode, Mike and Nate talk about Discovery Bible Method, a tool that facilitates evangelism and discipleship by making reading the Bible easy and accessible. DBM and its various iterations are having a major impact around the world and the western Church has much to profit by adopting its principles. (Recorded April 2022)
Season 02 / Episode 01 Learning is at the heart of discipleship, and Jesus invites his followers to learn from him as they follow him. It is one thing to learn from him in "stationary" environments like Bible study, book reading and listening to talks and sermons. But what about learning on the go? What might it look like to learn from him in real-time as we engage with real life? In this episode, Mike and Nate reflect back on Season 1, share what they learned and discuss the importance of the pause between "stimulus" and "response". (Recorded April 2022)
Season 01 / Episode 08 When you look around, what do you see? Where are you? How do you know what to do? The COVID-19 pandemic coupled with significant social and political events that occurred during lockdown gave leaders the opportunity to question what they were doing and why they were doing it. Many felt challenged to make decisions because of the disorientation caused by crisis. In a twist or irony, making the right decisions as we respond to big moments is less about ability than it is about practice - that is, living daily with an accurate picture of the world around us. Mike and Nate discuss what it means to develop this practice and, in turn, make decisions from a place of clarity based on cultural awareness. (Recorded August 2021)
Season 01 / Episode 07 Times of crisis demand much from leaders. Is it possible to rise to the occasion without burning out? We believe it is, but not in the way our culture tends to lead us. In this episode, Mike shares his perspective on prayer and how a shift in our approach can be the difference between more work and greater freedom. (Recorded August 2021)
Season 01 / Episode 06 "Where are we now?" and "Where do we go from here?" always carry complex answers for women, regardless of their cultural context. In many ways, the COVID-19 pandemic has only further compromised their role in society, but it has also clarified what must be part of their future if they are to experience the equality for which they were created. This episode's special guest is Jo Saxton, an international author, speaker, podcast host, and leadership coach. She has dedicated her career to growing leaders and teams, particularly in the vastly-neglected world of leadership development for women. Her content can be found at josaxton.com. (Recorded September 2021)
Season 01 / Episode 05 Chris Norman and Steve Terry are church planters and pastors in Ft. Wayne, IN. They joined Mike and Nate for a conversation on the massive impact that COVID-19 had on local churches and the lessons they learned about leading during times of significant difficulty and disorientation. (Recorded September 2021)
Season 01 / Episode 04 Mike and Nate sit down with Reggie Screen, Ph.D to discuss issues surrounding race in America, how the Church has fallen short, and the path forward to true reconciliation. Among his many roles and responsibilities, Reggie is the founder of 3L Cultural Intelligence, an organization focused on empowering the next generation of leaders to love all cultures to fulfill the Great Commission. Find out more at https://3lculture.com (Recorded August 2021)
Season 01 / Episode 03 Do we see children and youth as the future of the Church? Are we as intentional about empowering this future generation to follow Jesus as we are with the adults in our churches? Mike and Nate sit down with Erin Eller to understand the challenges and opportunities of discipleship at home in a post-lockdown environment. (Recorded August 2021)
Season 01 / Episode 02 It's amazing how much Jesus and his first followers have to teach us despite a history gap of 2,000 years. Mike and Nate discuss what may be particularly relevant for the Western church in a world that continues to deal with the effects of COVID-19. Season 01 / Episode 01 In a post-lockdown world still dealing with the effects of COVID-19, we're asking the questions, "Where are we?" and "Where do we go from here?" Mike shares observations on the American Church, the local church, and what each can learn from Jesus. Recorded August 2021.
