Are you leading or just surviving? My Enneagram Seven self desperately wants to reframe and excuse and brush (shove) it all under a nice area rug. But that plunges us all deeper into barely hanging on. In this episode of The Joyosity™ Podcast, leadership expert, and my mentor-from-afar, Jo Saxton joins me to unpack the overwhelming reality facing leaders today. Layoffs, rapid change, impossible demands? All if it means leadership as we knew it isn't working anymore. We're not just in a cultural crisis—we're in a leadership crisis. What important work is getting lost in the chaos? How is stress stealing your joy as a leader? Don't miss minute 25—it's a gut check moment every leader needs. Are we in a leadership crisis? The statistics scream yes. Burnout, turnover, and the weight of constant change are overwhelming leaders everywhere. But you already knew that…because you feel it too. In this episode, Jenn Whitmer dives into the two biggest myths holding leaders back and how you can shift from exhaustion and overwhelm to effectiveness and joy. Jenn breaks down why leadership is always a team sport and why self-leadership is the foundation of effective leadership. In This Episode, You'll Learn: The real reason burnout is at an all-time high for leaders. How to build your personal leadership board of directors. The key to making decisions with clarity and confidence. Why self-leadership is non-negotiable for long-term success. In this episode of the Right Side Up we welcome our good friend and frequent collaborator Jo Saxton, to discuss the critical gaps in women's empowerment in a wide variety of church roles. We explore the growing disillusionment many influential women feel within the church, the importance of allies, and the need for diverse voices in leadership. Our conversation highlights the impact of cultural norms on women's identities and the erasure of women's contributions to church history. We also touch on the prevalence of abuse and toxic culture within church settings and emphasize the importance of listening to women's stories. This is yet another call for hope and restoration for women in the church, especially encouraging leaders to recognize and celebrate the gifts and contributions of the women right in front of them.Show NotesLink to order the book: Need to Know: Empowering Female Leadership and Why It's Essential for the Future of the Churchkeywordswomen empowerment, church leadership, identity, allies, church history, listening, cultural norms, abuse, restoration, hopetakeaways* The empowerment of women is essential for the future of the church.* Allies play a crucial role in supporting women's leadership.* Understanding women's identity in scripture is vital for church leaders.* There is a significant disconnect between women and the church.* Listening to women's stories is key to understanding their experiences.* Raising women up in leadership requires intentionality and support.* Cultural norms often limit women's roles in the church.* The erasure of women in church history needs to be addressed.* Diverse voices in leadership enrich the church community.* Addressing abuse and toxic culture is necessary for healing and restoration.Chapters00:00 Introduction and the Need for Women's Leadership02:02 The Biblical Foundation for Women's Equality08:16 Women Leaving the Church14:30 Tools for Empowering Women26:28 The Impact of Not Seeing Women as They Were Designed to Be28:22 Addressing Abuse and Toxic Behaviors in Leadership30:09 Redeeming Women's Identities and Restoring the Church36:17 The Power of Listening to Women's Voices39:52 Finding Hope in Embracing Our True Identities Get full access to Right Side Up: Danielle Strickland at daniellestrickland.substack.com/subscribe

The mindset needed during transitions so that we can become more creative and more self-aware What God expects from us as we face a challenge (and what He does for us every day) Kryptonite that we face as women Favorite quotes: 13:10 (Audio) - “Just because it's uncertain doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. It doesn't mean it's all falling apart. And even if it is all falling apart, it doesn't mean it's over. It means I've got to be curious about it rather than give up and walk away.” 14:48 (Audio) - “Transition isn't just an aberration and an evil thing. It can be hard for sure, but transition is an opportunity to be creative. This is an opportunity to become more self-aware and aware of what God is saying to me.” 15:16 (Audio) - “Experiments are successful because of what they reveal, not just on account of whether they work or not.” 17:46 (Audio) - “Arriving at the end of the transition isn't the point, it's how you transition that matters.” 24:59 (Audio) - “I think we forget what it is to learn. And we forget that learning is integral to our gifting and our calling.” Coaching this week: (9:44 audio) Confidence Boost: Simple Steps to Overcoming Fear and Taking Action This week's coaching I help you conquer hesitation and take action. Do you ever struggle to own your gifts and voice and feel like you have to hide them in the name of humility? Do you wish you could really put your expertise and knowledge forward in order to make the jump into that next big dream? In episode 216, our guest Jo Saxton shares her views on women in leadership, the unique gifts women bring to those roles, and the ways their gifts enhance any space. Thankfully, Jo Saxton, is here to help us with that as we talk about leading beyond brokenness, regret, and jealousy so that we may obtain the integrity and character necessary to influence others well.May I invite you to consider that the story we read about the Daughters of Zelophehad in Numbers, chapter 27 is less about a previously inconceivable shift in the Israelite culture, and more about integrity? Let's talk about it.TODAY WE'RE REFLECTING ON ISAIAH 54:17 (LSB)No weapon that is formed against you will succeed; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. Today's episode concludes our four-part, pod-class series on mentorship. And what better way to finish than with godly wisdom and inspiration from another one of Heather's favorite online mentors? We're thrilled to welcome Beth Moore to Viral Jesus. Growing up, Jo Saxton assumed that most women worked outside the home. Her mother and grandmother modeled grit and hustle for her at an early age. She even says they had to “force” her grandma to retire at age 97. There was never any doubt that women could do great work in the marketplace in Jo's family. Now, as a leader and entrepreneur herself, she is passionate about making that perspective a norm for people around the world by equipping and inspiring women leaders to rise up to their God-given calling. In this episode, she has an open discussion with Henry and a good friend of the show, Paula Faris, who has plenty of insight to share about the topic as well. Throughout the conversation, the three discuss the competitive advantages to female leaders, creative solutions to big problems, and how male founders can play a role in empowering female leaders to create lasting impact.Check out this riveting episode and don't forget to follow along and rate the podcast on your favorite streaming platform.

Responses to the mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, have continued, and there's renewed hope for policy changes. This week, Jo Saxton joins Phil and Skye as a guest co-host to discuss a series of articles from African-American and global Christian leaders about the need to rethink both America's gun policies and the American church's gun culture. Then, BibleProject co-founders, Jon Collins and Tim Mackie, talk with Skye about how their work has shifted from just teaching what's in the Bible to teaching people how to read the Bible. Their new app and podcast series is designed to help us see the Bible as brilliant literature, and not just a depository of quick answers to life's problems.
