The Second Phase Podcast - Personal Branding & Brand Marketing and Life Strategies for Success for Female Entrepreneurs

The Calm, Confident, Consistent Leadership Loop: What the Research and Scripture Reveal for Christian Women in Leadership In the Dual Leadership Loop Model™, the second loop is the calm, confident, consistent leadership loop. The Dual Leadership Loop Model™ was developed specifically for Christian women in leadership — in executive roles, entrepreneurship, and as parents. Research confirms that calm, confidence, and consistency are not personality traits reserved for a few naturally gifted leaders. Three Pillars of the Calm, Confident, Consistent Leadership Loop Each pillar of the loop is distinct. Pillar One: Calm — Leading from a Regulated Nervous System What Calm Leadership Looks Like in Practice What Calm Parenting Leadership Looks Like Pillar Two: Confidence — Leading from Identity, Not Performance What Confident Leadership Looks Like in Practice What Confident Parenting Leadership Looks Like Pillar Three: Consistency — The Foundation of Trust What Consistent Leadership Looks Like in Practice What Consistent Parenting Leadership Looks Like The Neuroscience Behind the Calm, Confident, Consistent Loop Faith as the Foundation of the Calm, Confident, Consistent Loop Scripture Verses for The Calm, Confident, and Consistent Leadership Loop Isaiah 26:3 Philippians 4:13 Joshua 1:9 Romans 12:2 Proverbs 31:25 Psalm 23:1–3 Philippians 1:6 How Christian Women in Leadership Access and Sustain the Calm, Confident, Consistent Loop Entering this loop is not a one-time event. It is a daily practice of choosing regulation over reaction, truth over comparison, and trust over control. Here is how to build and sustain it. 1. Regulate Your Nervous System as a Daily Practice 2. Renew Your Mind Before the World Gets to It 3. Name and Interrupt the Anxiety Loop in Real Time 4. Build Boundaries that Protect Your Regulation 5. Anchor Identity in Christ Daily, Not Circumstantially 6. Lead Consistently in All Roles — at Work, at Home, and in Parenting What the Calm, Confident, Consistent Loop Looks Like Across All Areas of Life In Your Career and Business In Your Team and Organization In Your Marriage and Relationships Resentment decreases because you are no longer people-pleasing in silence. In Your Parenting Calm becomes their foundation. Consistency becomes their security. And confidence in who God made you to be becomes the model they carry into their own lives. A Word to Every Christian Woman in Leadership Reading This Your Next Step This week, identify one area where you experienced the calm, confident, consistent loop — even briefly. Reflection Questions Which of the three pillars — calm, confidence, or consistency — feels most available to you right now? Which one needs the most intentional development? Where in your leadership — at work, at home, or in parenting — would the greatest trust be built if you became more consistent? What would it look like for you to lead from the calm, confident, consistent loop for one full week — at work, at home, and with your children? Read the full show notes and access all links.

Lisa Kudrow returns to Club Random for a second conversation with Bill Maher, and the Friends star proves once again why she's one of Hollywood's sharpest and most refreshingly un-Hollywood voices.Lisa reflects on The Comeback Season 3, playing a woman the industry keeps underestimating, her years at The Groundlings, and the acting teacher who taught her never to take rejection personally. Bill shares the most humiliating story of his sitcom career, working alongside Sam Kinison as drugs, chaos, and misplaced blame turned the set into a nightmare. The two compare disastrous early drug experiences, debate whether AI will reshape creativity or destroy it, discuss why Hollywood keeps making the same mistakes, and somehow spend ten hilarious minutes dissecting Spartacus. Patrick K. O'Donnell highlights Harry Harrison Young, a fearless commander who led the Jesse Scouts as a strategic asset for Phil Sheridan in 1865. Disguised in Confederate uniforms, these scouts provided real-time intelligence and delivered critical messages to Grant while evading enemy patrols. They played a pivotal role in the Battle of Five Forks, finding weak points that allowed Sheridan to break Lee's lines. By intercepting orders and capturing supply trains, the scouts crippled Lee's logistics, forcing a premature evacuation of Richmond and setting the stage for the final retreat to Appomattox. (7)1865

The top AI news from the past week, every ThursdAI

Hey folks, Alex here, and welcome to a BIG MODEL week! We finally got Mythos (well almost)! Let me catch you up! This week started with WWDC26 from Apple, and Max Weinbach, who was in the room at Apple Park and actually has access to some of the new features including an all new SIRI AI, joined us to break down what could be the most used AI in the world very soon. At first I was skeptical, but he convinced me that the new Siri is actually good! Then, we saw the ultimate model drop: Anthropic finally shipped Mythos (X, my system card thread, benchmarks). Same weights, two names: Mythos 5 is the unrestricted version that only Project Glasswing partners get, Fable 5 is what the rest of us get, wrapped in the heaviest guardrails I've ever seen ship on a frontier model. It's state of the art on nearly every benchmarkThe model that was “too dangerous to release” is now... well, released, but with the heaviest guardrails we've seen. More on this later. Peter Gostev from Arena.ai joined us to break down the new model. Last but definitely not least, Google released a real-time translation model, that our friend Thor Schaeff from DeepMind demoed live, while we all spoke in different languages and it translated us in REAL TIME. It was really cool, definitely check that out. There's quite a few more things, like Loop Engineering Alpha, Swyx came by to talk about FrontierCode, OpenAI confirmed our suspicions that the anti-datacenter social media posts could be a concerted effort by groupds links to the Chinese government and much more. Let's dive in! ThursdAI - Let me catch you up, every week!

The Acorn and the Oak: Development of Doctrine, Part 2 Picking up right where Part 1 left off, Greg and Cory apply the principles of authentic development to some of today's most contested questions. They examine recent papal teaching on capital punishment and just war as examples still unfolding in the life of the Church, then look at three proposals (female ordination, Communion for those in irregular marriages, and same-sex unions) that the Church has consistently resisted. Along the way they show why these do not meet Newman's criteria for genuine development and how the Magisterium, guided by the Holy Spirit, discerns growth from corruption. Honest, hopeful, and pastorally grounded—this episode models how faithful Catholics can engage difficult topics without anxiety or compromise. How to Turn Around a Failing School: Real-Time Coaching That Works

Eight years ago, Chad Weiden walked into one of South Carolina's most underperforming elementary schools — a campus so low-rated that the state took it over, failed to fix it, and handed it back to the district. He just turned it into a good school. The strategy for school turnaround he used wasn't a new curriculum, a fresh initiative, or a culture retreat. It was building beacons of excellence on every team and coaching teachers in real time, in the moment, while students were in the room. Weiden spent nearly three decades building and leading schools across Chicago and South Carolina, including turning around Meeting Street Burns Pre-K through second grade from "unsatisfactory" to "good" on the state report card — in one of the most underserved communities in the state. He's a principal who understands that every child can learn and that the system, not the child, is what needs fixing. Find him on LinkedIn to follow his work. School turnaround is one of the most searched and least understood challenges in school leadership. Most principals know they need to fix culture — what they don't know is which two or three instructional moves actually move the needle. This episode answers that question directly, from a principal who lived it in real time in a school the system had already given up on.

They use the NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) database to do their research.  See what they uncover as they investigate unapproved parts in aviation. They search reports from 1995 and later years to find instances of suspected unapproved or counterfeit parts.  Most of the five cases they dive into are found to be paperwork issues rather than actual fraudulent parts. John adds some historical context, discussing how events like Eastern Airlines going out of business and the U.S. leaving behind a substantial amount of aviation assets after the Vietnam war led to many undocumented parts and helicopter engines entering the global aviation market. Shredded in Real Time: BOP Staff Destroy Epstein Files While Oversight Officials Were Present

The Moscow Murders and More

The discovery that Epstein-related documents were shredded during an active investigation severely weakens the credibility of the official narrative. The directive language—“make sure you get that box too”—points to intentional, targeted destruction rather than routine procedure, especially given that oversight officials were present at the time. This behavior does not align with a story built on negligence and bureaucratic failure. Instead, it introduces evidence of deliberate decision-making, suggesting that certain materials were removed because of their potential impact. When placed alongside the known irregularities—camera failures, falsified logs, and procedural lapses—the destruction of documents shifts the case away from coincidence and toward a pattern of controlled outcomes.Once parts of the evidentiary record are intentionally destroyed, the integrity of the entire investigation is compromised. Missing documents mean missing connections—timelines, communications, and accountability chains that can no longer be reconstructed. This creates permanent gaps that prevent any conclusion from being considered complete or definitive. Rather than reinforcing the official explanation, the destruction of evidence raises new questions about what was removed and why. As a result, the case no longer supports a simple narrative of failure, but instead suggests that the scope of what could be known was actively limited.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

As a result, the case no longer supports a simple narrative of failure, but instead suggests that the scope of what could be known was actively limited.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

For B'Tselem executive director Yuli Novak, the firestorm around the New York Times column by Nicholas Kristof decrying sexual violence by Israelis against Palestinians in the West Bank and in Israeli prisons has had the wrong focus. Speaking on the Haaretz Podcast, Novak said the Israeli government’s "propaganda machine" and other critics focused on challenging the facts regarding the abuse described in the piece, which she says are backed up by "dozens of testimonies" collected by her organization. "I would say it's much less a question whether these things [sexual abuse of Palestinians] are happening or not happening, and much more about what it means for all of us, and first and foremost for the victims." In its report on prisons, based on testimonies from Palestinians detained and then released from 16 detention facilities after October 7, B’Tselem documented "ongoing torture, physical and mental" abuse and the use of starvation and denial of medical treatment "as a policy." B’Tselem’s conclusion: that these facilities represented "a network of torture camps," which Novak admitted "was hard to grasp as an Israeli. For me – torture camps have been something that happens somewhere else." October 7 had been an opportunity and a “catalyst” for right-wing extremists in the government to influence policies in the direction of “their nationalist, racist, and in the case of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and the prison system – I would even say their sadistic agenda,” Novak said. “We can keep telling ourselves that we're a democracy, but if Israel, holding almost half of its population under its control without the right to go and vote for the system that governs them, it's not a democracy.” Read more: B'Tselem Report: Testimonies Describe 'Pattern of Sexual Violence' Against Palestinian Prisoners UN Secretary-General Report Accuses Israeli Forces of Rape, Sexual Abuse of Palestinian Detainees Ben-Gvir Is Not Alone: These Are His Collaborators in the Illegal Treatment of Palestinian Prisoners Op-ed by Yuli Novak: Even if You Call Israel a Democracy, It Is Still Apartheid Israel Must Let Red Cross Visit Palestinian Security Prisoners, High Court Rules Read B'Tselem's full report on Israeli prisons as a network of torture campsSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Launch Protocol: How Law Firms Are Adopting AI in Real Time

Summary Jared Correia sits down with Sean McTigue, a partner at Bartko Pavia LLP and one of the more technically fluent attorneys in practice today. Sean unpacks how his firm navigated the leap from legal-specific AI tools to a direct enterprise deployment of Anthropic's models, and why he thinks that distinction matters a lot more than most firms realize. The conversation covers practical ground: how to use Westlaw's Quickcheck as a verification loop, why lawyers overestimate what AI will do for them on the first try, and how to find the early adopters inside a firm and turn their discoveries into firm-wide workflows. Sean also looks ahead at what AI means for the billable hour model and why the legal profession can't afford to stay in the way. About the Guest Sean McTigue is a partner at Bartko Pavia LLP in San Francisco, where he handles complex litigation with a particular focus on integrating AI into the practice of law. He has been following the development of large language models closely since GPT-4's launch and has led the firm's rollout of Anthropic for Enterprise. Sean studied philosophy at the University of Utah and earned his law degree at Berkeley Law. Key Takeaways Hallucination risk in AI outputs is a solved problem, using tools like Westlaw's Quickcheck as a verification flywheel alongside AI drafting, not a reason to avoid AI entirely. Legal-specific tools rarely add value beyond a general foundation model; the wrapper around the model matters less than most vendors claim. Direct enterprise deployment of a foundation model lets firms ride the frontier rather than being stuck on whatever model a SaaS vendor last tested. The billable hour model is under pressure, and firms that build internal AI capital now are better positioned to shift toward fixed-fee and alternative-fee arrangements. Adoption inside a firm starts with finding the heavy users, learning what they figured out, and distributing those workflows to everyone else. Links and Resources Red Cave Law Firm Consulting Bartko Pavia LLP Westlaw CoCounsel Westlaw Quickcheck - available inside your Westlaw subscription Anthropic for Enterprise Keywords AI adoption in law firms, legal AI tools, Westlaw Quickcheck, AI hallucinations legal, foundation models for lawyers, Anthropic for Enterprise, billable hours AI, legal tech vendor evaluation, Sean McTigue, Bartko Pavia, Jared Correia, Adventures in Legal Tech, CoCounsel Westlaw, AI verification legal, small firm AI, legal workflow automation, enterprise AI deployment, AI research tools lawyers, prompt engineering legal, alternative fee arrangements AI Episode Highlights [00:02:01 - 00:04:54] Sean introduces Westlaw Quickcheck as the underused verification tool that turns hallucination risk into a manageable step in the workflow. [00:05:00 - 00:07:57] Sean explains why lawyers who try AI once, find it imperfect, and dismiss it are missing the workflow question entirely. [00:08:13 - 00:09:28] The hammer-and-nail analogy: being handed a tool and told to use it without any guidance on what the full project actually looks like. [00:19:14 - 00:23:27] Sean describes the frustration of vetting legal AI vendors who can't tell you what model they're running, including an e-discovery platform using Haiku 3 on million-document reviews. [00:24:54 - 00:28:05] The case for direct foundation model deployment over legal-specific SaaS wrappers, and what you can do with a generalist model that a niche tool will never offer. [00:36:44 - 00:40:43] The future of legal billing: from the billable hour back toward fixed-fee engagements, and why firms that build AI capital now are better positioned. [00:41:50 - 00:47:23] Sean's starter recommendation: Westlaw citing references downloaded in bulk and fed to an LLM, plus why Google AI Overview is already AI whether lawyers know it or not.

When the Nervous System Rewrites Reality: Emotional Flashbacks and CPTSD

Illuminated with Jennifer Wallace

Play Episode Listen Later May 31, 2026 47:22

You are not overreacting. Your nervous system is not broken. It is doing exactly what it learned to do in environments where threat was the norm. In this episode, Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristof close out Season Five with one of the most important and least understood concepts in complex trauma: emotional flashbacks. Not the cinematic kind, not a sudden memory of a specific event, but the quiet, whole-system state shift that can color an entire day, week, or month in dread, loneliness, shame, and the bone-deep certainty that nothing will ever be okay. The episode opens with a reframe that changes everything: an emotional flashback is not a regression to the past. It is a real-time nervous system state that reorganizes how the brain filters reality. Perception shifts. Interpretation shifts. What feels possible shifts. And because it happens at the level of the whole predictive network, not just a single memory, it does not feel like the past. It feels like now. It feels like truth. Elisabeth and Jennifer trace exactly how this works through the lens of neuro somatic intelligence, constructed emotion theory, and the science of predictive processing. They explain what neuro tags are and how they get activated, why the amygdala hijack model is outdated and what a more accurate understanding of emotional flashbacks actually looks like, and why calling these states irrational or disordered misses the point entirely. The nervous system is not malfunctioning. It is preparing for threat based on what it has reliably learned to expect. Both hosts share vivid and honest personal examples. Elisabeth describes a recent subtle flashback triggered by being sick, underresourced, and feeling unsupported by her partner, and how quickly the narrative spread to her business, her relationships, and her sense of being completely alone. Jennifer shares the story of a red hummingbird feeder in her backyard that unlocked an entire somatic memory of loneliness and isolation she had not yet consciously connected to childhood. The episode also addresses something practitioners often ask about: how to tell the difference between emotional dysregulation that needs regulating, and an emotion that needs to be felt and moved through. The answer is not a clean line but a question of capacity, flexibility, and what the nervous system can hold in that moment. This is the final episode of Season Five and a natural bridge into Season Six, where Jennifer and Elisabeth will be expanding the lens from individual healing to collective nervous system dynamics, cultural structures, and what becomes possible when this work moves beyond the personal. She experienced numbness and pain to the point where she worried she was having a stroke! This led to a chronic situation of which I am VERY familiar. Once she found this podcast, Heather was able to begin her healing journey, but she has questions about Inner Child Work and other concepts that would help her move forward. That's what I'm here for! Join us for an inspiring and educational RTH which ends (joyfully) in gratitude for the pain and the doors it has opened between Heather and herself. In this episode, Meg Bomley shares her T1D journey from being diagnosed at 18 years old and spending eight years on MDI without a CGM, to becoming someone who feels deeply empowered in her body and her diabetes.Meg first came on the podcast in 2022 after graduating from Risely coaching. At the time, she had just come out of a season of constant lows, burnout, and feeling completely overwhelmed after switching to a pump without the support she needed.Today, she's back as a nationally board certified health coach, and 35 weeks pregnant with type 1 diabetes, one of Risely's top coaches. The majority of this conversation is the reality of navigating pregnancy with T1D: the nausea, insulin resistance, fear of highs, changing carb ratios, and learning to trust yourself in this season.WHAT WE COVER:Why Meg resisted pumps and CGMs for nearly 8 years after diagnosisThe “biggest disaster ever” that happened when she first switched to a pumpWhat finally helped her stop feeling resistant, overwhelmed, and burnt out with diabetesHow coaching helped her uncover mindset blocks that had nothing to do with insulin or carb countingThe first sign Meg noticed that told her her insulin resistance was changing after getting pregnantHow she managed nausea, vomiting, insulin on board, and eating mostly carbs during pregnancyThe difference between taking 5 units for oatmeal pre-pregnancy vs. 16 units during pregnancyWhat it's actually like mentally to watch yourself take “large amounts of insulin” every dayWHAT'S NEXT:

Bill Maher welcomes legendary singer-songwriter Paul Anka for a conversation packed with stories that sound almost too wild to be true. From helping bring The Beatles to America before Beatlemania exploded, to partying with the Rat Pack in steam rooms full of Vegas showgirls, to learning of JFK's assassination while performing behind the Iron Curtain in communist Poland, Anka has lived a life that reads like historical fiction. But this isn't just Hollywood lore and old Vegas chaos. Bill and Paul dig into the craft of songwriting: why the simplest melodies last forever, what made Frank Sinatra both magnetic and impossible, and how Barry White could seduce a room with a single note. Anka also opens up about reinventing himself with his cult-classic Rock Swings album, surviving massive cultural shifts across generations, and why true artists never stop evolving. Have you ever lost a whole afternoon to a conversation that ended three days ago? Picking it apart, wondering what the other person actually meant, mentally rehearsing what you should have said. There is a name for what your brain is doing. It is called rumination, and according to research from Yale, it is the single most damaging mental habit science can measure. In this episode, I sit down with Donna Jackson Nakazawa, the science journalist who has spent decades translating cutting-edge neuroscience into language regular humans can actually use. Her new book Mind Drama (out this week) is the most useful explanation I have read of what is actually happening in your brain when you cannot stop replaying a conversation, and what the science says you can do about it. Donna and I get into the survival biology behind your overthinking, the unexpected link between early relationships and adult thought patterns, and her real-time interruption tool. She walks me through it live, with my own ruminative mind as the example. It got pretty real. In This Episode The four-step framework Donna walked me through live, in real time, while I was actually overthinking something (it interrupts a spiral in under a minute) Why your brain creates these loops in the first place, and the evolutionary reason it cannot just stop on command The hidden link between your earliest relationships and the thought patterns you carry into adulthood The word for what you have been calling overthinking, and why nearly a third of adults have never heard it How rumination shows up at work, and the moment I realized I was doing it about my own business while we were recording The Yale research that names rumination as the biggest single predictor of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and even cognitive decline What science says does not work for overthinking (and why willpower keeps failing you) The reframe that changes everything: your rumination is a signal fire from your past, not a character flaw Why This Matters This episode is for anyone who has ever lost a whole day to a conversation that already happened. The smart, accomplished, self-aware woman who has read every book about mindset and still finds herself staring at the ceiling at 2 AM. The friend who knows logically that the email did not mean what she thinks it means, and who is on her seventh draft of a reply anyway. If you have ever caught yourself in a loop and thought, what is wrong with me, this conversation will start to answer that question. Spoiler: nothing is wrong with you. Mea Culpa welcomes one of our favorite people from the Lincoln Project, Tara Setmayer. Setmayer is a former CNN political commentator, a contributor to ABC News, and a former GOP Communications Director on Capitol Hill. She's appeared on ABC's The View, ABC's Good Morning America, and HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher. Setmayer was named a Harvard Institute of Politics Spring 2020 Resident Fellow. Also in 2020, she joined The Lincoln Project as a senior advisor. Setmayer hosts the live show "The Breakdown" alongside co-founder Rick Wilson, on the organization's streaming channel, LPTV. Michael and Tara dig deep into the media and its effect on the elections, Trump's denials, and George Santos.
