What might happen if we decided to step into the understanding that nothing is simply one thing and that everything has layers? For every ‘thing’ that we see as one is actually composed of many. What might we be able to understand, about ourselves and others, if we took a moment to step back from compartmentalizing and noticed the complexity of layers in our internal & external worlds?

Have you ever felt stuck in a belief, thought pattern, behaviour or even relationship because you felt like there wasn't another way? Narratives are a common part of our society. Narratives aren't necessarily good or bad. However, narratives can create suffering when we don't allow ourselves to remember that these narratives are ONE way, not the only way. The recognition that there are many narratives out there might be just the insight we need to get unstuck.

The cultural narrative that many of us grew up with focused on how much of a dog eat dog world it is out there. This false belief that it's every Man, Woman, child and household pet out for themselves is a great way to build a perception of total scarcity. In this episode SJ shares a different view. Have you ever sat back and contemplated how interdependence shows up in your life? How every single moment of your existence is actually only possible because of other people/things? If you've never spent time with this realization, now's your chance ;)

Ep. 30: The Confusing Criticism Conundrum

Play Episode Listen Later May 27, 2019 9:34

Criticism is so complicated.  When a loved one is acting in a destructive way, would you say something to her out of love and caring? If you do, she might recognize your act of love and appreciate your opinion on the situation. Or, she might cut you down; who are you to criticize her, what right do you have? We get told to stay in our lanes and mind our own business all the time, which creates a very complicated scenario whenever we express our opinions.  In this episode I challenge you to take a new perspective on criticism and who’s actually to blame and how criticism doesn’t automatically default to a negative.

Yin (stillness) and Yang (movement) can both have positive outcomes as well as negative outcomes. Duality surrounds us in all areas of life.  When have you taken the time to see where movement shows up in both your physical world and your mental world? What about stillness? You see we all have varying degrees of Yin and Yang in our lives, which is exactly how it should be. There is no master, one sized fits all, distribution of movement and stillness we should  strive for in order to be happy, authentic, or successful.  What we should be striving to understand instead,  is how both Yin and Yang show up in a positive fashion in our lives so that we can better cancel out how movement and stillness show up in self sabotaging ways for us.  If you're ready to do some balancing of the scales, this episode is for you.

Hello Pothole Season. For those of you who live in an area where there is an extreme winter followed by summer, you get me on this. It's beautiful outside because the snow is melting, but driving is literally like playing real life Mario Kart trying to avoid potholes.  The thing is, we have a lot more control over how these pothole are going to effect us, and our cars, then we want to admit sometimes.  Tailgating and not paying attention are two of the main factors that limit our ability to doge the dangers that are literally right in front of us as we are driving during this time of year.  What about in your mental world? Are you tailgating the next best Guru you've found? Are you allowing yourself distance to actually decide how YOU want to drive your car?  This episode is all about gaining perspective so that we can all get back to stepping into the drivers seat of our own lives, because no-one will ever do it better than you can.

It doesn't matter what time of year you listen to this episode, you're going to learn something.  Easter is a great example of conflicting ideologies. Is the origin that of Christianity or a Pagan celebration of the changing of the seasons? Not only is the origin widely debated, the main modern day symbols of the holiday aren't as black and white as you might think.  Perspective is a tricky thing. We often forget that there is more than one point of view in any given situation. Understanding this allows us to move from a fixed mindset to that of a growth mindset.

As hard as you try, you can’t see anything but the dark tunnel ahead of you, the light at the end seems mythical.  If that’s you, I’m SUPER excited for you, because your story is sounding exactly like the makings of a great Super Hero Origin story.  No hero ever became a hero without struggle, which is why if you’re currently in the middle of a struggle you get to choose your own adventure as to how the story ends.  If you want to dive deeper with me on this, and change your narrative from Victim to Victor, you're really going to like this episode.

There really is a whole new world, under da sea!!! PS, extra points to you if you sang that in your best Sebastian voice.  In our physical world we can understand that there is a lot we can learn by going deeper than the surface levels of the Sea.. so why in the heck are we so nonchalant about existing from surface level mindsets?  If you're ready to dive deep, this episode is for you. If you're scared to jump right in, this episode is most def for you.

What would happen if you gave yourself the ultimate hall pass to do, or not do, the things that you KNOW are needed for your happiness, authenticity and fulfillment in life? The purpose of this episode is to allow you to take back your authority and take action on your wants.

When you understand  that creativity is your birth right, you’re able to take your power back.  Don’t like something that’s happening for you (notice how I didn’t say ‘to you’ because that’s never the case), create a different experience for yourself.  Notice your creativity seems lower than usual? Create an experience that allows you to have less consumption.  My favorite part about creating experiences is that we then allow others to consume and create for themselves. Talk about win/win.

Reframing, choosing to understand that every situation has a positive learning lesson, doesn’t mean that I am an advocate for turning a blind eye to the less than sunny side of things.  Fears, shame, regret, hurt… these are real deal things that are present for us during some time in our lives. Yet, how often do you allow yourself to feel these things so that you can also heal from them, vs just turning them off and pretending that they don’t exist? In this episode we are talking about why it’s important to let go of running from the dark and to spend some time with your less desired emotions.
