In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Max Klau to explore the intersection of leadership, service, and inner transformation.Max's work centers on the transformational path of servant leadership: helping individuals integrate their inner life with outer impact. A Harvard-trained scholar in human development and leadership, Max has spent decades designing programs that support leaders who are committed to service. He most recently served as Chief Program Officer at New Politics Leadership Academy, where he worked to bring more military veterans and national service alumni into politics. His upcoming book, Developing Servant Leaders at Scale, offers a roadmap for growing compassionate, courageous leaders.Deeply influenced by Joseph Campbell, Max views leadership as a mythic process—an invitation to face your shadow, grow from adversity, and return with wisdom in service of something greater than yourself. In this conversation, we explore Max's journey, what true servant leadership looks like, and how building better leaders might just be one of the most powerful ways to heal our fractured world. To find our more about Max visit: https://www.maxklau.com/Center for Courageous Wholeness website:https://www.centerforcourageouswholeness.org/Pre order Max's book:https://www.amazon.com/Developing-Servant-Leaders-Scale-Matters/dp/1837081654 For more information on the MythMaker Podcast Network and Joseph Campbell, visit JCF.org. IGNITE YOUR DREAM: THE JOURNEY TO REALIZATION Hey there, dream-chasers and life-lovers! Welcome back to another raw and real episode of Personal Development Unplugged. Ever had that dream sitting in your gut that feels like it might just burn you up from the inside if you don't pursue it? That vision that keeps you awake at night, whispering "what if..." even when every logical voice around you is shouting "impossible"? Today, I'm ripping open my own journey – the messy, beautiful adventure of chasing down a dream that completely revolutionized not just my career, but who I am at my core. THE DREAM THAT WOULDN'T DIE Let me take you back to when I was standing at that crossroads we all face – playing it safe or diving into the unknown. My passion for NLP and hypnosis was like this persistent itch I couldn't scratch. Society told me to find something "sensible," something "realistic." But as we talked about in our last mastermind session – your soul doesn't speak the language of sensible. It speaks in goosebumps, in that flutter in your chest when you imagine living your purpose. Remember when I shared how I'd hide my NLP books under more "respectable" business texts when meeting clients? That's the fear talking, folks. And fear will keep you small if you let it. FINDING YOUR GUIDES IN THE WILDERNESS Here's the thing – the universe has this funny way of sending you exactly the mentor you need when you're brave enough to take that first wobbly step. For me, it was encountering masters of the craft who saw something in me I couldn't yet see in myself. They didn't just teach techniques; they modeled what was possible. As I shared in our last get-together, transformation isn't just about acquiring skills – it's about becoming the person who can hold those skills with authenticity. My mentors didn't just change my career trajectory; they helped me rewrite my internal story. LEGACY IN MOTION One of the most profound insights I've had (which many of you resonated with last time we connected) is how our dreams create ripples beyond ourselves. Watching my sons carve their own paths in this field – bringing fresh perspectives and innovations I never could have imagined – has been the ultimate validation. They're not following my footsteps; they're creating their own trail using the permission I unknowingly gave them to pursue what lights them up. That's legacy in motion, my friends. YOUR TURN: AWAKENING THE DREAM So what about you? What's that thing making your heart race when you let yourself imagine it fully? As we discussed in our last session, the feeling of the "wish fulfilled" isn't just woo-woo visualization – it's programming your reticular activating system to recognize opportunities aligned with your vision. Here's what I want you to take away: Your unconventional dream isn't "too much" – it's precisely what the world needs from you Those obstacles and naysayers? They're not roadblocks; they're invitations to strengthen your resolve The mentors you need are already out there waiting for you to be ready to receive their guidance Your clear vision of success isn't fantasy – it's the blueprint your subconscious mind uses to navigate Understanding your deepest "why" isn't just motivational fluff – it's the fuel that will carry you through the inevitable valleys THE INVITATION This journey might take longer than you expect. It'll definitely be messier. But I promise you this – each step, each failure, each moment of doubt is part of the adventure that's shaping you into the person capable of holding that dream when it manifests. Remember what we shared in our circle last time: your dream exists for a reason. It chose you because you have something unique to bring to it that no one else can. It's time to dream big and then DOUBLE IT! Share your journey with me and our community of fellow dreamers. Let's give each other the courage to reach heights we can't even imagine yet. Spread the fire – share this episode with someone whose dream deserves oxygen to grow. https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/445-i-had-a-deam-whats-yours/ Until next time, keep showing up, keep growing, and for heaven's sake, keep dreaming audaciously! —Your fellow traveller on this wild, wonderful journey Shine Brightly
Are you feeling low energy? Do you feel stressed on a daily basis? The news is filled with stories of wars, mass shootings, rights getting overturned, economic uncertainty, and so much continuous devastation, it could seem that we are living in End Times. Our guest today, scholar, philosopher, and researcher Jean Houston, Ph.D., delves into the idea of finding possibility, even during these times of great grief. We have been conditioned to respond to the terrible, but it does not have to be this way. As an icon in the Human Potential movement, Jean shares ideas about how the Renaissance, with its advancements in music, art, poetry, and cosmology, came after great plagues and times of war, much like the world situation today. Could we be in a new Renaissance period now? We are once again in a similar time of radical growth, and we have the power within us to see new possibilities and reach mythical potential in our human evolution. Jean shares stories of her travels and talks about her friendship with scholar Joseph Campbell and how they would have “beautiful fights” which were friendly arguments and deep discussions about mythology and the fate of humanity. Campbell wrote extensively about the “Hero's Journey,” while Jean considered the “Heroine's Journey.” Part of the problem is that 50% of the human race is not being recognized for women's immense creativity and power. Women's ways are missing. With an emphasis on compassion, cooperation, community, and process rather than product and competition, humane creativity must be celebrated by acknowledging the achievements of women. She also talks about her fateful meeting of evolutionary philosopher and Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin who became one of her mentors when she was much younger. At an early age, they would have profound discussions of time, history, and transformation, as she gained an alternate education of possibilities through their talks. We air this today in honor of Jean Houston's upcoming 88th birthday. Info: JeanHouston.com

In this conversation, Robert and Robert Comber journey through the layers of ancient wisdom encoded in astrology, mythology, geometry, and sound. They explore the deacons of the zodiac, the sacred structure of DNA, and the messages hidden within ancient texts—illuminating how these elements serve as blueprints for consciousness. From the stargate resonance of the King's Chamber to the cosmic significance of the Ark of the Covenant, the discussion weaves together the mythologies of Osiris, Hercules, Andromeda, and Anubis with the geometry of pyramids and the music of the spheres. Together, they reveal how these stories and symbols are relics of the past and reflections of our inner world, guiding us through cycles of awakening, transformation, and return. This is a deep exploration of the divine feminine, the hero's journey, and the hidden architecture of the cosmos—reminding us that the universe is not out there; it's within. There are many ways to meet your shadow side and heal it. The shadow is conceptually the blind spot of the psyche;the repression of one's id, while maladaptive, prevents shadow integration, the union of id and ego. The shadow is projected onto one's social environment as cognitive distortions. When someone's shadow-self is characterized by insecurity, they may experience deep emotional reactions when they are surrounded by successful people or when they feel that their partner is checking out other attractive people in the room. They may also feel triggered when their sibling gets a promotion or their best friend loses weight. "The Hero's Journey" redirects here. For other uses, see The Hero's Journey (disambiguation).Illustration of the hero's journey In narratology and comparative mythology, the hero's journey, also known as the monomyth, is the common template of stories that involve a hero who goes on an adventure, is victorious in a decisive crisis, and comes home changed or transformed. The Hero's Journey is a narrative framework that describes the typical stages of an adventure or quest undertaken by a hero in mythology, literature, and storytelling. This concept was popularized by the American scholar Joseph Campbell in his book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces." The Hero's Journey consists of several key stages, which often include: 1. **The Call to Adventure:** The hero is called to leave their ordinary world and embark on a journey or quest. 2. **Refusal of the Call:** Initially, the hero may hesitate or refuse the call to adventure, often due to fear or a sense of inadequacy. 3. **Meeting the Mentor:** The hero encounters a wise figure or mentor who provides guidance, advice, or magical tools to help them on their journey. 4. **Crossing the Threshold:** The hero leaves their ordinary world behind and enters the unknown or the "special world" of the adventure. 5. **Tests, Allies, and Enemies:** Along the way, the hero faces a series of challenges, meets allies, and confronts enemies that test their skills and resolve. 6. **Approaching the Inmost Cave:** The hero comes to the edge of a dangerous place or faces a critical challenge that represents their greatest fear or the central conflict of the story. 7. **The Ordeal:** The hero faces their greatest trial, often a life-threatening challenge that forces them to confront their fears and weaknesses. 8. **The Reward:** After overcoming the ordeal, the hero receives a reward, such as knowledge, power, or an object of great value. 9. **The Road Back:** The hero begins the journey back to their ordinary world, often pursued by enemies or facing new challenges. 10. **The Resurrection:** The hero faces a final test, which may require them to use all of their newfound skills and wisdom. 11. **Return with the Elixir:** The hero returns to their ordinary world, transformed by their journey, and brings back a boon or "elixir" that benefits their community or society. The Hero's Journey is a powerful storytelling tool that resonates with audiences because it reflects the universal themes of growth, transformation, and the triumph of good over evil. It has been used in many famous stories and films, including the "Star Wars" saga, "The Lord of the Rings," and "The Wizard of Oz." RPG Pundit joins us for a great chat about the woke takeover of culture, diversity consultants, inclusivity reviews, woke corporations like HASBRO, Tabletop Roll Playing Games, liberal gamers, before the current culture war, and the Panderverse. We chat about his interests in history, authentic medieval research, old school gaming and the revival, how he got to 5e, the outcast hero's and the corruption of the Hero's Journey, anti-western, and are Wizards of the Coast, and Hasbro gonna make it or collapse. Why are they against individual power? Should we get rid of the following words in gaming, fiction, and story telling; Mad, Madness, Insane, Tribal, Crazy, Civilized, Dark Elves, Dim-witted, Simple Creatures, Half-breed Offspring, Raving Lunatics, Primitive, Hordes of Orcs, Slavery, Savage, Barbarians, Fat, Dark, even when describing horror, monsters, and great evils. Have they jumped the shark. In the second half we get into the Satanic Panic, and the difference between that and the modern woke cancel culture, how far back some of these changes in D&D/culture go, the long march, the mechanism of Marxism, in the Universities, movies, media, and gaming. We talk about his game design based on authentic history from India and medieval times, totalitarianism, satanic imagery, secret societies of wizards, the Black Lodge - in name only, real magical grimoires, Lovecraft and Cthulhu, ritual magic, SJW's, materialism and atheism in gaming. The Culture war revolution can never go back. What is happening on both sides of the Israel conflict with wokeness and support from Government, Media and Institutions? A content creator named Kaleigh Moore posted on social media: When working to improve yourself: Is it better to do it in a public forum and post about progress along the way, or to internalize it, hunker down, and sort of *sit down, shut up, and DO THE WORK* on your own? This is a great question It really boils down to, “How will I tell my story?” In this episode, you'll discover the pros and cons of sharing your story two ways. You can drip your story to your audience in real time. Or you can wait till the end and share your story as an accomplishment. We'll explore the pros and cons of each choice. Sharing in real-time will be extremely powerful. You attract and hold your audience's attention. On the other hand, each step of the journey becomes a mini-story. You need to build suspense as you continue. We'll also look at the factors going into your choice: your brand, archetype and service. Sometimes a story will get in the way of your brand. Finally, I prefer an alternative type of storytelling, which I'll explain at the end. It's extremely effective and creates a memorable listening experience. In episode 18 of the podcast we are discussing archetypes and how they influence our lives with Beth Marten, host of the Kings Hero Journey podcast and expert on using the archetypes for personal growth. In part one Beth tells us how a near death experience led to her uncovering the power of archetypes which she then used to help herself heal from cancer. We go on to explore how archetypes manifest in the world and how they can influence our lives in subtle and not so subtle ways and. Beth also explains how they are being weaponized against us by the powers that be. In part 2 we go into the the spiritual aspects of archetypes, discussing how they can be used to develop a deeper relationship with the creator. Mike and Beth also discuss guru mentality and the wave of pseudo-spiritualism that has swept the west over the past 20 years. Beth then tells us more about her study of the legal system and how this is helping her - and many others - to fight back against the Maritime Law which being used to enact tyranny against us. My guest is Mary Henderson, a transformational leader and an internationally recognised personal branding specialist. She helps industry experts systemise, digitalise & commercialise their wisdom & skills into a profitable online business and a brand, so they become an authority in their niche or industry. Mary shares her story of how she had a personal epiphany in 2011 that changed her life. She left her job and asked herself 'Who am I without all these labels?'. She went on a twelve-month sabbatical and explored how to change her life, and this conversation is the result of that journey. We explore the relationship between our mind and our emotions, and why having a mentor is critical to success rather than relying on self help books and courses. ⠀

Gary from Nerdrotic joins us for a great chat about pop culture, the collapse of Hollywood, social engineering, the dinosaur media and perception management. When did this landscape start to shift and where is it going? How are they manipulating the reviews, the stats and the data in tinsel town? In this episode, LDF host Dan Wotherspoon is joined by the wonderful, gifted, powerful author Carol Lynn Pearson to talk about her most recent book and the ideas that underlie it. The book, The Love Map: Saving Your Love Relationship and Incidentally Saving the World, is the flowering of a more-than-forty-year interest that Carol Lynn has had in the deep energies of the soul and universe that are at play in both societies and individual human lives. In this book, she focuses on the chakra system, which outlines seven energy centers in our bodies, each with its own different but vital contribution to our well-being, both physically and spiritually. Carol Lynn uses the metaphor of "kingdoms" in speaking about the contributions of (and potential dangers inherent in) each chakra, but focuses on the fourth kingdom, the "heart" chakra, as the most important for our love relationships. But learning to live and flourish in this kingdom only comes after all sorts of inner wrestles, especially with ego and the dangerous (and wonderful) energy of the third kingdom in which "power" is preeminent. Through compelling narrative and first-person voice, The Love Map, traces the journey of human history as Carol Lynn describes the type of energy that is ascendent in different chronological epochs, as well as through developments in the life of Joanna, a young woman, the narrator, whose three-year marriage is nearing collapse. The book is a depiction of Joanna's hero's journey. The book's voice and prose allows us to understand ourselves and human development writ large through dramatic encounters with each energy in a way that isn't accessible through more academic approaches. We "experience" our lives in these kingdoms, and we are grateful to Carol Lynn for teaching us of these kingdoms through story, which includes humor, heartaches, and faced fears. You don't want to miss this book! Nor this conversation!

“Once you have reached an advanced age, as I have, as you look back over your life, it can seem to have a plot, as though composed by a novelist.” What a beautiful take that Joseph Campbell shared from Schopenhauer in Campbell's book The Hero's Journey. If you are anything like me (a human), we have all gone though phases in our lives where things seem to have an impossible ending. I encourage you to be honest for a moment and reflect back on all of the ‘suck' that you have already had to overcome in your life. Chances are, there are moments that you are able to pull back into. Consider those moments and reflect on how far you've come. While it might have seemed like there was no way out of whatever it was that you went through, you did. And I will venture to guess that there's a list of reasons why you are a better person as a result. In today's episode, Coach Ashlie Walton and Detective Walton break down why understanding the novelist approach can help you to trust that things WILL get better. ⩥ PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL ⩤ https://bi3xbvVont.ly/ CLICK HERE for our best-selling products: https://amzn.to/3xaG3xw and https://rdbl.co/3DIQVUC CLICK HERE to join our free Police, Fire, Military and Families Facebook Group: https://bit.ly/38w2e7r Check out our website and learn more about how you can work with LEO Warriors by going to: https://www.leowarriors.com/ Like what you hear? Many of us understand the basic structure of what Joseph Campbell has named "the hero's journey" and the wrestles and transformations it requires. But one element that is usually underemphasized is the final step in the journey, which is when the hero returns to community. In most cases, the journeyer comes back to the society and culture she or he had left, but even in the cases when it isn't back where they began, their journey isn't complete until they bring their transformed selves back to the real world, back into community. They left "home" because their society was sick, but now, through their journeying, they have obtained the secret elixir, some sort of healing knowledge and power that can overcome the disease and inspire others to go find it for themselves. In this terrific conversation, Stephen Carter joins LDF host Dan Wotherspoon to discuss various aspects of the hero's return. Does the hero have to physically leave her or his community in order to complete their journey? And if they can't or do not want to separate physically, what sort of things are helpful in assisting them in gaining a different kind of distance and some breathing room to do their healing and gain new perspectives? How will the hero know they are ready to fully reintegrate into community? Are there clear internal signals for them to watch for? This episode also contains an intriguing take on "judgment." How does a lens of judgment affect our experience in community, as well as in our healing work? Listen in! You will be glad you did!
We all live our lives within mythic structures, and we always will. But early on, as James Fowler states, we take these overarching stories as literally true (he names his Stage 2 "Mythic-Literal"). Then life, in ways that we can comprehend, serves up alternate mythologies. We begin to see the stories of others as genuine options for us to adopt, or to at least appreciate deeply. In that dilemma of seeing more than one story or mythic framing being as capable of leading people to experience rich and joyful lives, with strong values and a dynamic sense of purpose, we must begin to shift our perspective. We are now forced to see our myths as "value stories" rather than factual truth, and as we do so we begin to enter into a new relationship with them. Making this shift is extremely difficult. At first, most of us want to hide or re-cocoon ourselves solely within our story as being THE right or best one. This transition toward comfort with our overarching stories and sense of the world/universe/purpose as being mythic can take a very long time. But it is a shift worth making, because all of a sudden the world and universe come alive for us in ways we can't, in our fearful modes, imagine. Now we find ourselves playing on a much larger stage, and the call for us to embark upon the hero's journey, the quest to overcome what scares us or holds us back, becomes louder. It is likewise only through such journeys that we can heal ourselves, which then allows us to heal the communities we are part of. In this episode, my wonderful friend Charles Randall Paul (Randy) and I dive deeply into the importance and value of myth (debunking any thought of it as “not true”) and the excitement of being in a broader world in which we are now able to be creators and teachers and livers of our highest values and experience harmony between our old and ever-emerging selves in ways that enliven our family and community bonds and experiences and, hopefully, model for others the boons of these journeys into the unknown that lead us back transformed in powerful ways. I hope you'll join us in this important conversation, our attempt to assist us all in “unlearning” any pejorative thoughts about myth as being less powerful or vital than “facts.” I also hope you'll find attractive, as well, what we do in the sections that help bring alive gorgeous aspects of Mormonism's foundational myths. This episode was originally aired June 26, 2019. It is definitely worth revisiting! The image above is a representation of the Judgment of Paris, a foundational Greek myth discussed in the episode.
The Hero's Journey is an archetypal story pattern, common in ancient myths as well as modern day adventures. The concept of the Hero's Journey was described by mythologist Joseph Campbell in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces and refined by Christopher Vogler in his book The Writer's Journey. This arhetypal pattern may be a reflection of your own soul's journey The essence of the hero's journey is: How do you live a meaningful life? What is the deepest life you are called to? How can you respond to that call? If you don't find that calling, you're likely to live in a lot of misery – to be unhappy, feel lost or confused, or perhaps end up with some significant problems.Perhaps a health issue, a career confusion, or a dysfunctional relationship. To live a hero's journey will provide the most amazing rewards, but to turn away from it may cause tremendous suffering. So what we hope to do in this book is to help you sense and discover what your journey is, and how you might live it fully and deeply. Our interest is to explore how you can connect and align with the deepest part of your spirit, so that everything that you feel and think and do in the world is aligned with the human spirit. A hero's journey is about a type of awakening and a type of opening – an opening to what life is bringing you and calling from you. And this calling is not always easy. Otherwise you wouldn't need to be a hero to do it. There's a great benefit of the hero's journey, which is a sense of a meaning, a sense of being alive in the world. But with that benefit comes also the challenge, the cost. Wherever there is light, there will always be shadows – and in fact you could say the brighter the light, the darker the shadows. And living a full life is about holding and addressing both, the shadows as well as the light.
