A paisa music "review"podcast with comedian Jerry Garcia and co-host Fernie Rodriguez. Fan-girling over rancheras, norteñas, banda, cumbia & all things paisa.
The Tragos Amargos Podcast is a delightful and entertaining show that explores the world of Mexican music and provides comedic commentary along the way. The hosts, Jerry and Fern, have great chemistry and their fun-loving and goofy nature shines through in every episode. This podcast is perfect for anyone looking to have a good laugh while also learning about different genres of Mexican music.
One of the best aspects of The Tragos Amargos Podcast is the dynamic between Jerry and Fern. Their banter and comedic timing are on point, which keeps listeners engaged and entertained throughout each episode. Jerry's breakdowns of songs and albums are informative and enjoyable, even for those who may not be familiar with the artists being discussed. The addition of Sammy's input adds another layer of entertainment to the show, making it a well-rounded listening experience.
Another highlight of this podcast is the enthusiasm displayed by the hosts. They genuinely enjoy what they're talking about, whether it's discussing their favorite tracks or diving into the history behind certain songs or artists. This enthusiasm is contagious and makes listeners feel like they're part of an exciting conversation among friends.
While there are many positive aspects to The Tragos Amargos Podcast, there are a few areas that could be improved upon. One minor criticism is that Jerry's singing could benefit from some additional lessons. While his attempts at singing along to songs can be humorous, it sometimes detracts from the overall listening experience. Additionally, some listeners may find the occasional background noise inserts distracting, although others may enjoy them as part of the authentic feel of the show.
In conclusion, The Tragos Amargos Podcast is a fantastic podcast for both fans of Mexican music and those looking for a good laugh. With its engaging hosts, informative breakdowns, and undeniable enthusiasm, this podcast is sure to keep audiences entertained. Whether you're a longtime fan or just discovering Mexican music for the first time, this show offers something for everyone. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the Tragos Amargos experience.
The smoothest s*x addict in all of Mexico, Señor Joan Sebastian. 1000s of songs written, 1000s of women made love to. QEPD the legend of Juliantla. We ending Season 2 with a true G.O.A.T. In all seriousness, Joan's career spans over 4 decades, he wrote songs for other legends like Chente, Bronco, Pepe Aguilar, Rocio Durcal. Tragos Amargos Podcast is happy to present our LOS TUCANES DE TIJUANA episode. ***NO C*CAINE WAS CONSUMED DURING THE MAKING OF THIS EPISODE. Yes Tucanes are known for their excess but dammit they make some catchy music. Even your old school family members that think drugs and narcos are the devil will stand up immediately within the first 3 seconds of La Chona. If that ain't iconic, we don't know what is. If you think Luis Miguel is mid / overrated, then Jerry & Sammy agree with you. We're only doing this episode because Fern is a life long, dedicated and passionate fan girl. Love or hate him, Luis Miguel is a staple in Mexican culture and has been on the grind since he was a little kid. Today, that's called child exploitation - back then, it's how you became a real superstar.Topics discussedLuisito GueyFake Mexican? Jerry said it best this episode, “Jenni Rivera lead an Army of H0's in the best way possible.” Jokes aside, Jenni Rivera was really in a league of her own during her short reign. One of the baddest b*tches in Long Beach, CA during the 2000s, she carved her own lane by singing Mexican music through her own unfiltered, & many times hilarious point of view. She'd gained a loyal following, had a crazy popular TV show & her career was just about to really take off before her death in 2012. RIP to La Diva De La Banda, gone too soon! This week we got Mr. Pelavacas himself, a man who needs no introduction - CHALINO SANCHEZ.Love him or hate him, Chalino had a huge impact on musica regional. He was rough around the edges, sang off-key (there is hope for Jerry after all), & his material dealt violence, drugs, and excess in an unfiltered way...A huge part of his success is due to the fact that he made his career on the U.S. side in a little town known as Los Angeles, California - not in his home state of Sinaloa. It's hard to imagine what corridos tumbados would look like today without this man's influence. For Jerry & Fern, little paisa teens in Huntington Park at the time, Chalino made it cool AF to be paisa AF.For topics, the fellas discussedChalino the Paisa Fresh PrinceLove from the Jewish Community of L.A.Tiroteo in CoachellaJerry's Gambling AddictionAdan Sanchez aka Jerry's TwinNunca Tuvo Medio (Chalino Documentary)Idolo: The Ballad of Chalino Sanchez
Quebradita was Different when it arrived in the early 1990s. It was faster, more modern, flashy, and in the case of Banda Machos: extremely h*rny. Makes sense why they are one of Jerry's favorite bands. For Jerry & Fern, young teenagers in Los Angeles (Huntington Park) at the time, artists like Banda Machos made it cool to be paisa. Before this, being too Mexican was low-key embarrassing. Vicente, Juan Gabriel, Los Bukis - anything perceived as too Mexican was outdated or corny. This was the era of Death Row and 90s Hip-Hop. Grunge, MTV. Banda Machos CAME onto the scene DRIPPING in paisa Swag. It was in your face, loud, fast, hard, harder... OMG...RIGHT THERE... whoops sorry about that, got carried away with the caption there. REAL TALK Banda Machos was unapologetic and kept the torch burning for Mexican music during the 1990s. Today, musica regional is massive and only growing in popularity. It's thanks to bands like Machos who kept it relevant during their era that we're able to see the continued success! It's hard to overstate the popularity of BRONCO in Mexico / Latin America, especially during the late 80s and most of the 90s. Sh*t, Lupe Esparza is nearly 70 and still touring after 45+ years in the game. Bronco is an essential part of Mexican culture and that's why we're kicking off season 2 with these legendary G.O.A.T.S.
