171: The Simplicity and Sophistication of the Beatles, with Aaron Krerowicz

Musicality Now

Welcome back to Beatles Month!   Today we’re talking with Aaron Krerowicz, the one and only full-time Beatles scholar who focuses specifically on the music of The Beatles. Meaning he dives deep into the lyrics, the chords, the notes used in melodies - all the stuff that musicians are perhaps most hungry to hear about but is quite rarely discussed in such a dedicated way. This was a super cool conversation.   We know you're going to be itching for more from Aaron so you'll be pleased to hear he's written several short, easy-to-read books, and published a ton of bite-sized videos on the topic too which you can find at Flipside Beatles.   In this conversation we talk about:   •The special way in which the music of the Beatles is "sophisticated" - and when that all began •How the Beatles learned from and re-imagined the music of the time to create their most remarkable songs •And what we can learn from looking at which of the group wrote each song, and the way the music and lyrics relate.   Plus: Aaron shares a quite shocking statistic about the apparent overnight success of the Fab Four.   Aaron brings a unique perspective to analysing The Beatles and I know you're going to enjoy this conversation just as much as we did.   You’re tuned in to Beatles Month at Musical U.       Subscribe For Future Episodes! The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown
Episode #101 - Beatles Authors Part 2

The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown

The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown features stripped down, deconstructed mixes of classic Beatles songs, live cuts, solo material, demos, and much more. By highlighting different instruments and vocals you will experience these songs in a way that you've never imagined.  For the 100th episode of The Beatles Multi-Track Meltdown I decided to do things a bit differently and invited a few friends, who also happen to be esteemed Beatles authors, to pick two songs and tell me what it is that makes them do special. I've only had a guest on once before when my daughter Ella, a fantastic musician in her own right, co-hosted episode 71, the musical children of the Beatles. As many of you can expect once you begin talking to a fellow Beatle fan, especially one who has written books about the group, the discussions can get pretty deep. Therefore episode 100 ended up being nearly three hours long. So in order to preserve the full conversations with each author I've split what was supposed to be one episode into three. So sit back and enjoy some Beatles related conversations and the selections of Jude Southerland Kessler, Aaron Krerowicz, and Bruce Spizer.

"When You've Seen Beyond Yourself" will be the topic of discussion in the fourth episode in #ThePepperMindset. Co-hosts Sean Gaillard and Lanea Stagg will chat with professional Beatles scholar Aaron Krerowicz and Marti Edwards, the founder of the Chicagoland Beatle People Fan Club in the 1960s. Krerowic won a research grant through the University of Hartford in 2011 to study The Beatles, and has since presented his analysis of the band’s music through more than 300 presentations throughout the USA and England. A complete list of his presentation topics and upcoming appearances is available at AaronKrerowicz.com. He is the author of four books on The Beatles, found at Amazon; and his video series The Beatles Minute, is found on his website and YouTube. Marti Edwards, along with her friend, Joe Carroccio, is the author of 16 in ’64: The Beatles & The Baby Boomers, a book available on the website www.16in64.com.  Edwards, a lifelong music fan, had the thrilling experience of meeting The Beatles in 1964 and presenting them with an honorary plaque from her fan club. Wanting to share her story and photos from the event with other people, it was suggested she write a book. With the help of Carroccio, she did just that. It is a story for Baby Boomers and new Beatles fans alike. www.aaronkrerowicz.com www.16in64.com www.principallinernotes.wordpress.com www.laneastagg.com
