Episode 37 - Why I Love Saint Joan of ArcThe story of Joan of Arc has captivated generations of believers and non-believers alike. Countless biographers, poets, playwrights, artists and filmmakers have tried to capture what it was about her life that made her so fascinating. She was a shepherdess turned solider, a mystic turned martyr, and a patriot turned patroness (of France). But at the bottom of it all was this one inspiring fact: she was 100% committed to her mission from God.Chad raises the Mighty Banner under which this episode is to march, while Ben tosses and twirls his glittery analysis throughout. The two strive after lessons for men to learn from this Saint's story. What about Joan's example is like an anecdote to one of the greatest threats to society today? What does it mean to be "mission-minded", and can you articulate what your life's mission is? If you more clearly understood God's will for your life (like Joan did), how might that cause you to live differently?SHOW NOTES:Story of Jim Elliot, missionary: Jim Elliot: Story and Legacy (christianity.com)Mark Twain's book on Joan of Arc: Joan of Arc by Mark Twain (goodreads.com)Scripture Reference: Philippians 3:17-21 NKJV - Our Citizenship in Heaven - Brethren, - Bible GatewayFeng Shui, defined (for Ben): Feng shui - WikipediaSteven Pressfield article on mission: Writing Wednesdays: “DVEKUT BA MESIMA” (stevenpressfield.com)Chad's Challenge (watch this video!): (276) The World Shifts Itself Around Your Aim | Jordan Peterson | Best Life Advice - YouTube
A young person kneels before a crowd of one-percenters in this kaleidoscopic medieval scene. Meet Joan of Arc, one very tough teen. She's here to convince the exiled French court that she can save France from the British. No wonder they look skeptical! And just like Sodoma, we get to discover another artist, Louis Maurice Boutet de Monvel. He painted a series of six images about Joan's life for Senator William A. Clark that formerly hung in the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC. Who is Miriam Flynn: Miriam Flynn is an American voice actress and character actress. She is best known as Cousin Catherine in the National Lampoon's Vacation and Grandma Longneck in The Land Before Time franchises. I have known Miriam since I was a kid. Always a family friend. Miriam was instrumental in making sure I had the best Sweet Sixteen party ever. We have spent Thanksgivings together and Miriam even lived with us a short time when she and my family left Chicago for Los Angeles. Miriam and my Dad were on the Tim Conway show together as well. Miriam is a part of my family and has a special place in my heart. Who is Joan of Arc: Joan of Arc is considered a national heroine of France for her role during the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years' War and was canonized as a Roman Catholic saint. Joan was burned at the stake as a heretic by the English and their French collaborators. Ugh... typing the last part makes me sad. Jeanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc)’s controversial life and death are being depicted in a comprehensive new literary work by Dr Ali Alizadeh titled The Last Days of Jeanne D’Arc due out this year. We sat down with Dr Alizadeh to explore his decades-long research into the character of Jeanne d’Arc that brought up questions about political writing, the phenomena and ideology of real revolution, the question of war, and the revolutionary potential of Jeanne d’Arc in contemporary discourse, politics and concepts of universalism.
