"Sonic Ranch" Licking his wounds from the breakup of his band Big Car, the Texas-born singer/songwriter Miles Zuniga found himself out west--and when I say out west I mean about ten minutes from where we record this podcast. Miles got a job working at Chez Panisse and hanging out on Telegraph Avenue at Cody's Books and Amoeba Music. The Big Car experience hadn't been great, so Miles was plotting out his next moves while he worked in Alice Waters' restaurant and I'll let him tell you how that all played out, so let's just fast forward to when he moved back to Texas and joined forces with bassist/singer Tony Scalzo and drummer Joe Shuffield to form Fastball. The trio's debut Make Your Mama Proud evinced their penchant for punchy pop genius but it was their sophomore record All The Pain That Money Can Buy that put them on the map. The album's first single "The Way" was pretty much a pop sensation, hitting the number one slot of charts for seven weeks. The next two singles "Out Of My Head" and "Fire Escape" helped fuel the album's Platinum status and Zuniga, a long way now from his Chez Panisse days, found his band with two Grammy nominations. Over the course of their career, Fastball have collaborated with Billy Preston, Steve Berlin, Adam Schlesinger and Charlie Sexton. From Keep Your Wig On to The Help Machine to their latest album Sonic Ranch, their discography is an endless supply of pop riches. Abarca la voluntad, el asiento de los afectos y de los deseos, es el Lugar Santísimo en el hombre, la cámara secreta del Espíritu. Bíblicamente hablando, el corazón es el asiento de las actitudes, emociones y de la inteligencia. Se refiere a la mente, los pensamientos, los sentimientos y al intelecto en general, es el centro mismo del ser humano, es el centro de la personalidad y por ende este determina nuestra manera de ser, lo que guarda el corazón influye nuestros pensamientos y nuestros comportamientos, Proverbios 23:7 “Porque cual es su pensamiento en su corazón, tal es él”, por tal razón hay que guardarlo, cuidarlo, protegerlo, Proverbios 4:23 “Sobre toda cosa guardada, guarda tu corazón; Porque de él mana la vida”.El corazón es el centro donde convergen las áreas más importantes de nuestra vida: la física, emocional, espiritual y económica. Cuando estas áreas han sido heridas o afectadas por el pecado, la maldad o la violencia, el corazón se contamina. Esta contaminación interna no solo afecta nuestra salud y bienestar, sino que también se manifiesta en forma de temores, angustias, enfermedades, conflictos, escasez, destrucción, separación y violencia. En otras palabras, un corazón dañado inevitablemente influye en todo nuestro entorno y forma de vivir.El corazón del hombre esta ligado al carácter, Jesús lo enseñó en Lucas 6:45 “El hombre bueno, del buen tesoro de su corazón saca lo bueno; y el hombre malo, del mal tesoro de su corazón saca lo malo” y en Mateo 15:19 “Porque del corazón salen los malos pensamientos, los homicidios, los adulterios, las fornicaciones, los hurtos, los falsos testimonios, las blasfemias”.El corazón del hombre no puede ser remendado, la promesa de Dios es que nos dará Corazon nuevo y Espíritu recto debido a que la naturaleza humana es demasiado depravada para ser remendada. No se trata de una casa que necesita de unas cuantas reparaciones, no, la casa está podrida por completo, y los cimientos han sido destruidos, en este tiempo tanto el corazón del hombre como el corazón de la familia han sido destruidos, toda la casa se encuentra en mal estado, hay podredumbre por doquier y está a punto de desplomarse. Dios no intenta repararla, no la adorna ni la embellece, ni le pone máscara como hacemos nosotros, sino que decide que la vieja casa debe ser arrasada, y que construirá una casa nueva, la Palabra dice en Ezequiel 36:26-27 "Les daré corazón nuevo, y pondré espíritu nuevo dentro de vosotros; y quitaré de vuestra carne el corazón de piedra y pondré un corazón de carne…”, ya que para poder enfrentar estos tiempos difíciles debemos tener un corazón sano delante de Dios y delante de los hombres, por lo tanto tienes que saber que Dios ama nuestro corazón; Nuestro corazón es el órgano espiritual donde Dios quiere obrar el mayor de sus milagros, es momento de que lo abras, y que Él pueda hacer esa obra transformadora en el corazón de tu vida, tu hogar y tu familia. Proverbios 4:20-27 el Señor nos da consejos sabios a través de la Palabra: Hijo mío, está atento a mis palabras;Inclina tu oído a mis razones, no se aparten de tus ojos; Guárdalas en medio de tu corazón;Porque son vida a los que las hallan, y medicina a todo su cuerpo.Sobre toda cosa guardada, guarda tu corazón; Porque de él mana la vida.Aparta de ti la perversidad de la boca,Y aleja de ti la iniquidad de los labios.Tus ojos miren lo recto,Y diríjanse tus párpados hacia lo que tienes delante.Examina la senda de tus pies, y todos tus caminos sean rectos.No te desvíes a la derecha ni a la izquierda;Aparta tu pie del mal.En la Biblia hay muchos acontecimientos registrados de sanidad en un corazón roto: La mujer encorvada, la mujer del flujo de sangre, la hija de Jairo, el paralítico de Bethesda, el ciego bartimeo, la hija de Jairo, en fin, muchas sanidades, milagros y prodigios, pero me llama mucho la sanidad del corazón roto de la mujer que fue sorprendida por los teólogos, lideres religiosos, conocedores de la ley y en un alto grado de influencia espiritual en sus pecados de Indole emocional y sexual, esto se encuentra en Juan 8:1-11 “y Jesús se fue al monte de los Olivos. Y por la mañana volvió al templo, y todo el pueblo vino a él; y sentado él, les enseñaba. Entonces los escribas y los fariseos le trajeron una mujer sorprendida en adulterio; y poniéndola en medio, le dijeron: Maestro, esta mujer ha sido sorprendida en el acto mismo de adulterio. Y en la ley nos mandó Moisés apedrear a tales mujeres. Tú, pues, ¿qué dices? Mas esto decían tentándole, para poder acusarle. Pero Jesús, inclinado hacia el suelo, escribía en tierra con el dedo. Entonces Jesús le dijo: Ni yo te condeno; vete, y no peques más, la Palabra muestra la gracia y el amor de Dios hacia esta mujer, ya que Jesús no la condenó y lo que la llevó a su sanidad plena fue lo que Jesús le dijo “Mujer arrepiente y no peques más”.Muchos de nosotros no podemos amar de la manera correcta porque no hemos recibido amor de la manera correcta, en 1 Juan 4:19 la Palabra dice “Nosotros le amamos a Él porque Él nos amó primero”, por lo tanto no podemos dar algo que no hemos recibido; hoy Dios quiere mostrar su amor para con nosotros, quiere sanar nuestro corazón roto para poder amar y a través del amor de Dios en nosotros poder tomar la decisión de perdonar ya que es la base de la sanidad de un corazón roto, para volver a amar hay que perdonar y para poder perdonar hay que recibir perdón.Ministración: Debemos “Sanar la causa del Dolor”, las viejas heridas tienen buena memoria y hoy es el día de vernos como en un espejo para ver reflejado lo que hay en nuestro corazón; si observas detenidamente, veras tus heridas que han sido sanadas por el Señor, que aunque están las marcas, si las tocas ya no duelen; pero si miras cuidadosamente verás ciertas heridas que no han sido sanas, que todavía duelen, que fueron hechas por personas a las que les permitimos que entraran en nuestras vidas y trajeron consigo maldición, deshonra, destrucción, dolor y esas heridas aún están allí, porque aún no han sido perdonadas, aún no han sido sanadas; vas a observar otras heridas que nos hicimos nosotros mismos a través de los pecados que hemos cometido.Hoy me doy cuenta que aunque Cristo murió para darnos libertad, aún no la hemos recibido y vivimos bajo el yugo de la falta de perdón; por tal razón nos sentimos culpables por lo que hacemos y nos sentimos avergonzados por lo que somos. En ese espejo nos vemos horrendos, por lo tanto debemos tomar la decisión de romper la imagen del pasado, es necesario que llevemos nuestra imagen distorsionada delante del Señor, para que Él a través de Su amor y Su misericordia nos trasforme y la única manera es permitir que Dios a través del sacrificio de Su hijo Jesucristo lo haga hoy en nosotros, permitir que sane todo lo que hay dentro de nosotros: Sentimientos, emociones, la memoria donde están almacenados los eventos que han producido tanto dolor, es urgente que Dios sane nuestro corazón roto, para que podamos tomar decision...

"Midnight At The Valencia" Before all this rock and roll stuff, Tom Hollister was a highly touted Rugby player from Wales. I'll let him tell you how his career as an athlete was derailed as a young man in Canada, but let me just say this: when he got back to Wales, he channeled all that athletic energy into another sport entirely: the making of music. In 2010, of all the emerging buzzbands, Cardinal Black was one of the buzziest. Guns N' Roses' longtime manager Alan Niven was overseeing the band's activity and let's just say this: it was active. They were invited by Steve Winwood to record at his studio, they played a killer set at Sonisphere and they flew to the U.S. to record an album. But things didn't go as planned and the band hit pause on a career that was about to kick into overdrive. I'll let Tom tell you about that dark time as well, but, and I don't think this is a spoiler, the dark times are over and Cardinal Black 2.0 are in fighting shape and adding brilliant achievements to their resume' with each passing day. They've hit #1 on the iTunes Rock Singles Chart, they've played sold-out headline shows in all over the world, supported Myles Kennedy, The Struts and Peter Frampton thanks to a personal invitation from the man himself, and played Joe Bonamassa's Keeping The Blues Alive rock cruise. The band's new long player Midnight At The Valencia is a smooth blend of simmering soul, bluesy ballads and shimmering, rootsy genius. Hollister's stirring vocals are drenched with heart and with the brilliant guitar playing of Chris Buck weaving throughout the band's compositions, Midnight At The Valencia is one of those records that evades the timeline. When you put it on it could be 1971 or 1993 or now. Or all of it. Isaías 30:21 “Entonces tus oídos oirán a tus espaldas palabra que diga: Este es el camino, andad por él; y no echéis a la mano derecha, ni tampoco torzáis a la mano izquierda”.Inicio: Hay personas que han incursionado en pecados secretos, perversión sexual, adicciones a la pornografía, al sexo ilícito, a la fornicación, masturbación, adicción a las drogas, al alcohol, se han entregado a los tres demonios que gobiernan la tierra: Momo (Pasiones desordenadas), a Baco (Alcohol y drogas) y a Arlequín (Suertes y Azar); hoy es el día del arrepentimiento, Dios hace un llamado para colocar nuestras vidas en orden, es el despertar del temor reverencial del Señor, porque hemos perdido el temor a Dios, ya no hay tiempo para jugar al cristianismo falso; Dios nos está llamando, es el tiempo de volver a Dios con todo el corazón… Paremos un momento y hagamos una oración “Padre en el nombre de Jesús vengo ante ti y me arrepiento, pongo mi vida a tus pies, me rindo ante ti, he pecado, he herido a otros, me he herido a mi mismo, te pido que me laves con tu sangre, perdona mis pecados, recibo tu sacrificio, se mi Señor y mi Salvador en el nombre de Jesús, amen…” Levanta tu mano derecha y declara: “Aquí estamos Señor, clamamos por la manifestación de tus propósitos en nuestra vida, familia y descendencia, reconocemos tu gobierno sobre nuestras vidas para que establezcas tu propósito firme… Señor gracias se que no es demasiado tarde porque las promesas de Dios son verdad en mi vida, Señor confío en ti, a pesar de los retrasos aún viviré una vida en victoria”.Introducción: Existe una guerra celestial, un conflicto entre ángeles y demonios y nosotros estamos en medio de este campo de batalla, por lo tanto estamos en peligro inminente en este mundo caído, la guerra espiritual es continua y diaria contra principados, potestades, huestes espirituales de maldad en las regiones celestes.El Apóstol Pablo dice que, aunque vivimos con los pies firmemente plantados en lo físico, estamos en una guerra que no es física. Los ataques de Satanás no vienen en forma de poderosos explosivos o armas de fuego, los ataques de Satanás vienen a través de argumentos que se introducen en nuestra mente, en nuestros pensamientos y cuando llegan le abrimos la puerta a espíritus inmundos tales como: Espíritus de muerte, de conmiseración, de  autocompasión… en 2 Corintios 10:3–5 “Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no militamos según la carne; porque las armas de nuestra milicia no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas, derribando argumentos y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y llevando cautivo todo pensamiento a la obediencia a Cristo”.Al avanzar en la vida cristiana nos damos cuenta que no hemos venido a un concurso de popularidad, sino a una zona de guerra donde el blanco somos nosotros, nuestras familias, nuestros descendientes, el enemigo vendrá susurrando a tu oido sus argumentos opuestos a la verdad de Dios y tenemos que estar listos a pelear la batalla.No supongas erróneamente que Satanás solo irá tras tu vida espiritual, no, nuestro enemigo viene contra nosotros, Satanás usará cualquier cosa de nuestro pasado, cualquier debilidad personal, o cualquier persona que apreciamos como una palanca contra nosotros.Dios nunca nos instruye para que planeemos estrategias de guerra contra Satanás, las instrucciones de Dios son mantenernos firmes. Nos armamos para poder resistir en el día malo, y habiéndolo hecho todo, estar firmes, Efesios 6:13 "Por tanto, tomad toda la armadura de Dios, para que podáis resistir en el día malo, y habiendo acabado todo, estar firmes”.Nuestra mayor defensa es derribar los argumentos que Satanás lanza en nuestra contra, escogemos creer la verdad de Dios en lugar de los arrogantes argumentos que Satanás levanta en medio de nosotros.¿Y qué ocurre cuando resistimos? Esta escrito en Santiago 4:7 “Someteos, pues, a Dios; resistid al diablo, y huirá de vosotros”.Para ilustrar esta Palabra vayamos al momento en que Jesús se enfrentó con el diablo, esto ocurrió entre su bautismo, cuando los cielos se abrieron y Dios proclamó que Jesús era Su Hijo amado y el comienzo de Su ministerio público de predicar y llamar a la gente al arrepentimiento, es decir, entre Mateo 3:17 “Y hubo una voz de los cielos, que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia” y Mateo 4:17 “Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a predicar, y a decir: Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado”.Jesús estaba solo en el desierto, así que, suponemos que Jesús les contó a sus discípulos sobre el ataque de Satanás tiempo después, tal vez como una sesión de entrenamiento a sus discípulos. Jesús sabía que ellos se enfrentarían al mismo tipo de ataque por parte del mismo enemigo ya que los mismos tres argumentos que Satanás presentó contra Jesús, también lo usará contra nosotros.Vergüenza: ¿Qué clase de Dios permite que Su propio Hijo pase hambre, y más durante cuarenta días? Satanás lo reta a hacer pan con piedras. Si Jesús es realmente el Hijo de Dios, ¿Por qué, estaba sufriendo y no festejando? Mateo 4:3 “Y vino a él el tentador, y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se conviertan en pan”.Satanás se dirige hoy a los hijos de Dios con el mismo tono, si Dios te ama, ¿por qué sufres? ¿Por qué permite que te suceda esto o lo otro? Satanás utiliza la vergüenza para tratar de dañar nuestra fe, pone en duda la bondad de Dios, por tal razón debemos mantenernos firmes, confiando en Dios incluso cuando se nos pide que soportemos dificultades. Dios es bueno, está con nosotros y podemos confiar en Él.Orgullo: Satanás quiso ahora quiere que Jesús se llenara de orgullo. En Mateo 4:5-6 la Palabra dice: “Entonces el diablo le llevó a la santa ciudad, y le puso sobre el pináculo del templo, y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, échate abajo; porque escrito está: A sus ángeles mandará acerca de ti, y, en sus manos te sostendrán, para que no tropieces con tu pie en piedra” Satanás siempre convierte las promesas de Dios en fórmulas mágicas, y luego sugiere que las pongamos a prueba. Quiere hacerte ver que Dios está a nuestro servicio, y nosotros somos los que tenemos que exigirle. De esta manera Satanás utiliza el orgullo para engañarnos, al recomendarnos que exijamos que Dios cumpla Sus promesas, nuestro enemigo nos atrae hacia el orgullo, y el orgullo precede a la caída.Para mantenernos firmes contra el orgullo debemos humillarnos como siervos de Dios y no como hijos con derechos. La humildad no exige nada a Dios, sino que confía en que todas Sus promesas se cumplirán cuando Dios diga que es el momento.Tentación: El tercer ataque de Satanás fue audaz y atrevido. Propuso que el Hijo de Dios se arrodillara y se convirtiera en adorador de Satanás, Mateo 4:8-9 “Otra vez le llevó el diablo a un monte muy alto, y le mostró todos los reinos del mundo y la gloria de ellos, y le dijo: Todo esto te daré, si postrado me adorares”. Satanás usa la tentación como una poderosa táctica; mantenerse firme contra el diablo implica decir «no» a la tentación, ya que si caemos en ella traerá devastación y angustia, mientras que la obediencia constante traerá  alegría duradera.Ministración: Pasar a la gente al frente y que se paren firmes.Mantenernos firmes: Dios valora la debilidad, no la fuerza. Hello Friends! We've got something a little different on the show today. A few months ago I became very curious about a few stereo mixes I had used in my episode on the Zombies LP Begin Here, where a few tracks had turned up in poor SQ. At that point I assumed this was likely baked into the mix, until I put out a call regarding The World of The Zombies featuring these tracks, only to discover that I was in fact, incorrect. This sent me on a whirlwind of a journey picking up copies of The Zombies, Early Days, The World of The Zombies, Rock Roots & The Collection, in addition to my CD copies of The Singles A's and B's and Greatest Hits (on Audio Fidelity), but came away with only more questions than answers. Why are some tracks mono on some compilations and stereo on others? Why do some discs have studio chatter and some don't? Where did all these later stereo mixes come from that aren't on the '69 & '70 discs? And what is the best source for all of these now they are out of print? After listening to many Zombies LPs and CDs later, as well as a few more, I feel I can confidently give you the definitive answer to all of these questions, as well as the best guide on where to find them, as despite later CD issues, many of these are best heard by far on those original LPs. "Feel Good Now" Alright, let's get the spicy stuff out of the way; yes, the Loft split up onstage in front of 3,000 people while opening for the Colorfield at the Hammersmith Palais. That happened. But a lot happened before and a lot has happened after, so let me catch you up. Formed in 1980, The Loft were one of the first bands signed to Alan McGee's Creation Records. Their wistful pop had jangle and nerve and they tore out of the gates cramming their resume with notable achievements for McGee's lable like being the first Creation band to appear on television, the first top the indie singles chart, the first to be invited on to a major UK tour and the first to record a Janice Long BBC radio session. The Loft were poised to be a huge band, but the public split came before their first album was ever released and so fans could only be left to wonder what might have been had they been able to just get a record on the shelves. Compilations like Magpie Eyes and Once Around The Fair were released over the years, but as we know, great as they may be, it's not the same thing. Singer Pete Astor and drummer Dave Morgan went on the form the Weather Prophets, while guitarist Andy Strickland formed The Caretaker Race and bassist Bill Prince formed The Wishing Stones. Happily, the ice that forms after an argument started to thaw and the Loft slowly drifted back to each other. I'll let Andy and Pete tell you that story, but let me just say this. We're so lucky that it did because the band's debut album is one we finally get to hear and it was well worth the wait. The ten songs on Everything Changes, Everything Stays The Same are perfectly crafted pop gems with spry rhythms, jangling beauty and melodic mastery. I love this record. Romanos 9:33 “He aquí pongo en Sion piedra de tropiezo y roca de caída; Y el que creyere en él, no será avergonzado”.En la vida debemos tomar decisiones firmes, dice la Palabra que Dios coloca delante de nosotros la bendición y la maldición y nos da una instrucción “Escoge, pues, la bendición para que te vaya bien…”, Deuteronomio 30:19 “A los cielos y a la tierra llamo por testigos hoy contra vosotros, que os he puesto delante la vida y la muerte, la bendición y la maldición; escoge, pues, la vida, para que vivas tú y tu descendencia” tu escoges, por un lado la salvación que es Cristo Jesús o la perdición y la condenación.Dios plantó una piedra en medio del mundo; cuando caminas por un camino y aparece una piedra en medio del camino, hay dos cosas que pueden suceder, puedes tropezarte con ella y caer o puedes colocarte sobre esa roca y afirmarte sobre ella.¿Que significa tropezar con la piedra y que significa afirmarte en ella?Aunque seamos creyentes, tenemos que entender que el proceso de cambio y transformación aún no ha terminado, aún tenemos que enfrentar batallas, todavía tenemos que lidiar con nuestros propios pensamientos y con los argumentos que se levantan contra nosotros que quieren destruirnos, ya que tendremos que superar y vencer ideales religiosos, mentiras espirituales, paradigmas equivocados y creencias erróneas, y además de todo esto se suma lo que el mundo quiere vomitar encima de nosotros para volvernos esclavos del mundo.Escuche esto: “El que no escoge con plena libertad los principios y fundamentos registrados en la Biblia como una norma de conducta, tarde o temprano Jesús será su piedra de tropiezo, se verá manejado por otros, vivirá en la indolencia como un parásito, sujeto a lo que determinen los demás. Se prestará a ser zarandeado por cualquier viento, dice la Palabra que los tales son como nubes sin agua, llevadas de aquí para allá por los vientos; árboles otoñales, infructuosos, dos veces muertos, sin raíces”. Judas 1:12-13 “Estos son manchas en vuestros ágapes, que comiendo impúdicamente con vosotros se apacientan a sí mismos; nubes sin agua, llevadas de acá para allá por los vientos; árboles otoñales, sin fruto, dos veces muertos y desarraigados; fieras ondas del mar, que espuman su propia vergüenza; estrellas errantes, para las cuales está reservada eternamente la oscuridad de las tinieblas”.Esto sucedió con los judíos en los tiempos del apóstol Pablo, quienes estaban resueltos a obrar su propia salvación en la base de su propio comportamiento, sus propias buenas obras frente a Dios, y que ocurrió: “Se tropezaron con la piedra”. Es por eso que los judíos rechazaron a Jesús, y por lo cual le rechazan hasta el día de hoy. No quieren admitir que necesitan un Salvador. Pero para aquellos que necesitan un Salvador, han sido atraídos por el Espíritu de Dios, despertados por Su gracia, por lo tanto, el mismo deseo de ser salvos, la expresión misma de su necesidad de un Salvador, les causa aceptar a Jesús, colocándose sobre esa Piedra y afirmándose en ella.. Para ilustrar esto, traigo a estudio la vida de Saul, el primer rey de Israel, un hombre que tenía todo lo necesario para ser bendecido y bendecir al pueblo que lo eligió como rey, pero que terminó en el más grande de los fracasos. Al analizar la vida de Saúl notamos que su caída comenzó desde su interior, no fue capaz de ejecutar la Palabra que Dios le había dado y se volcó a cada una de sus actitudes, decisiones y acciones de las que luego se lamentaría profundamente debido a su carácter endeble; tropezó con la piedra y cayó. Esta fue el mandato de Dios para Saul: 1 Samuel 15:3 “Ve, pues, y hiere a Amalec, y destruye todo lo que tiene, y no te apiades de él; mata a hombres, mujeres, niños, y aun los de pecho, vacas, ovejas, camellos y asnos”, y esto fue lo que hizo Saul, 1 Samuel 15:8-9 “Y tomó vivo a Agag rey de Amalec, pero a todo el pueblo mató a filo de espada. Y Saúl y el pueblo perdonaron a Agag, y a lo mejor de las ovejas y del ganado mayor, de los animales engordados, de los carneros y de todo lo bueno, y no lo quisieron destruir; mas todo lo que era vil y despreciable destruyeron”.Todos tenemos un Saúl dentro, hombres y mujeres pecaminosos que nos impide ser los hombres y mujeres que Dios desea que seamos. Por lo tanto, si aprendemos a vivir despojándonos de este viejo hombre, habremos logrado mucho en nuestro deseo por convertirnos en hombres y mujeres de Dios, ya que, el propósito del Señor es desarrollar Su carácter en nosotros. "El crisol para la plata, y la hornaza para el oro; Pero Jehová prueba los corazones” Proverbios 17:3. El carácter piadoso es el resultado de la obra de santificación del Espíritu Santo. El carácter en el creyente es una manifestación constante de Jesús en su vida. Veamos 6 características negativas de Saúl, señalemos cuáles son aquellas con las que más nos identificamos y en consecuencia tomemos las decisión de vivir los principios descritos en la Palabra de Dios, para que Jesús no sea la principal piedra con la cual tropezamos día a día:Era un hombre lleno de temores, miedos e indecisiones. Saúl tenía todo a su favor, Dios le había dado todo lo necesario para confiar en Él, había colocado a su lado al profeta Samuel, sin embargo a pesar de esas ventajas, fracasó miserablemente. ¿Por qué? Porque no le permitió a Dios ser el Señor de su vida”.Era un hombre de solo apariencia. 1 Samuel 10:24 “Y Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: ¿Habéis visto al que ha elegido Jehová, que no hay semejante a él en todo el pueblo? Entonces el pueblo clamó con alegría, diciendo: ¡Viva el rey!”. La Biblia dice que era joven y hermoso, que entre los hijos de Israel no había otro más hermoso que él, 1 Samuel 9:2 “Y tenía él un hijo que se llamaba Saúl, joven y hermoso. Entre los hijos de Israel no había otro más hermoso que él; de hombros arriba sobrepasaba a cualquiera del pueblo”. Su apariencia exterior no fue suficiente para cumplir con los preceptos que Dios colocó sobre su vida.Era un hombre desobediente. A pesar de que Dios había avalado su reino, reconociéndolo públicamente y con una victoria frente a los amonitas, Saúl todavía demostraría que el miedo y la inseguridad en su corazón no habían sido superados. Esto le llevaría a formar otros defectos de carácter en su personalidad, acarreando serias consecuencias sobre sus decisiones, convirtiéndose en una persona desobediente al explícito mandato de Dios.Era un hombre arrogante e impulsivo. 1 Samuel 14:23-29, 43-45: Cuando supo que fue desechado debido a su desobediencia, Saúl comenzó a mostrar todos los defectos de carácter. Un siervo/sierva de Dios debe tomar decisiones con sabiduría y en dependencia del Espíritu de Dios, pero los arrebatos de ira, las decisiones apresuradas y la actitud arrogante pueden causar serios daños a las personas que amamos. “Cuidado con herir a los que amas por no aprender a controlar tu temperamento”. Eso fue lo que hizo Saul, colocó a su hijo Jonathan en boca de jarro a la muerte.Era un hombre “terco como la mula”, mentiroso, egoísta y rebelde. 1 Samuel15:13-23. ¿Era posible tal necedad en la mente de un hombre? Saúl había llegado al colmo de su rebeldía. A él no le importaba las indicaciones de Dios para que se hicieren las cosas, sólo le importaba hacer las cosas a su manera, y por esto fue desechado para siempre por el Señor. El mayor aliado de un siervo/sierva de Dios es la palabra del Señor. Es difícil para un hombre despojarse de “su razón” pero, que privilegiado aquel que se deja ser guiado por los mandamientos de Dios antes que por su parecer.Saúl era un hombre sin carácter, todos los defectos que hemos podido apreciar en la vida de Saúl, se encuentra en muchos de ...

2 Samuel 11:4 “Y envió David mensajeros, y la tomó; y vino a él, y él durmió con ella. Luego ella se purificó de su inmundicia, y se volvió a su casa”.La expresión “daño colateral” implica un daño no intencionado o accidental a causa de cierto tipo de acción. Al parecer el concepto adquiere más significado en un contexto militar, pero también se aplica a aquellas cosas que hacemos y que producen efectos inesperados no planificados. Quiero traer varios ejemplos: Cuando los padres se divorcian, entonces los hijos se ven obligado a criarse en uno de los dos hogares o en los dos con padrastros y madrastras o con particulares o con ninguno de sus padres; padres e hijos afectados con este tipo de daño colateral; El daño colateral cuando un empleado incumple su labor con o sin excusa válida y los demás compañeros se ven forzados a trabajar más de la cuenta. El miedo infundado por los padres también causa daños colaterales en los hijos hasta para cruzar una calle, para comer algo, para superarse, para casarse, para transitar, para dormir. El pecado de Adan y Eva, provocó daños colaterales que muchos hoy sufrimos con la entrada de la muerte, el dolor, las enfermedades, la pobreza, etc. El gran problema es que la mentalidad del ser humano se ha vuelto tan personal, tan egoísta que a veces no entendemos que el egoísmo puede producir daño colateral; ¿De dónde viene el término daño colateral? Se utiliza comúnmente en el ámbito militar, cuando en una misión se enviaba un misil, ocurrían muertes de civiles y se justificaba con la frase “daño colateral”; daño colateral es un término que se usa para justificar el daño que causa en otros, porque lo que importaba era la misión propia.Nuestro egoísmo genera acciones que provocan un efecto dominó en quienes nos rodean. Una mentalidad egoísta nos impide considerar las consecuencias de nuestros actos, y lo que hacemos —por insignificante que parezca— puede desencadenar caos y destrucción.El daño colateral es el resultado de decisiones centradas en uno mismo; aunque puedan parecer ventajosas para quien las toma, terminan perjudicando a otros y multiplicando el impacto negativo en cadena.Un ejemplo claro de daño colateral ocurrió cuando Jesús decidió venir a la Tierra para traer salvación a nuestras vidas, el cielo se vio afectado, el cielo perdió a Jesús ya que dejó su posición para hacerse hombre, el padre no tuvo al hijo al lado, lo vio sufrir, recuerda que tu salvación y la mia tuvo un daño colateral en el cielo.En la Biblia se registra múltiples daños colaterales que produjo un hombre por tomar males decisiones; 2 Samuel 11:2-4 “Un día por la tarde, mientras se paseaba por la azotea de su palacio después de la siesta, vio desde allí a una mujer muy hermosa, que se estaba bañando. Al preguntar quién era ella, le dijeron que se llamaba Betsabé, y que era hija de Elián y esposa de Urías el hitita. Entonces David ordenó que la llevaran a su presencia, y ella se presentó ante él, y él la tomó y se acostó con ella. Después de tener relaciones, ella se purificó y regresó a su casa”.Aquí vemos la profundidad de múltiples daños colaterales, David tuvo un sentimiento, una emoción, una atracción por una mujer llamada betsabé pero no pensó en el daño colateral que iba a generar esa emoción, ese sentimiento, esa atracción, que lo llevó a cometer una acción reprochable.Así como David, nunca nos detenemos a pensar que producen nuestras acciones, si David se hubiera sentado a pensar: ¿Qué pasa si me acuesto con ella? ¿Cómo podré mirarle a la cara al soldado Urías? ¿Cómo podré mirar en la cara el padre de betsabé, cuando llegue a palacio reclamando el hecho de haber deshonrado a su hija? ¿Y qué pasa si la embarazo? ¿Y qué pasa si todo el pueblo se entera? ¿Cómo mirarán al rey después de utilizar su poder para tomar lo que no podía tomar? Nunca se sentó a hacer un desglose de los daños colaterales que producirían sus acciones y la cantidad de maldiciones que no sólo afectaron su vida emocional, su vida física, su vida como rey y como autoridad; también afectó a todos sus hijos.Ahora la pregunta es: ¿Cuántos daños colaterales hemos producido en nuestro hogar, en nuestros hijos, en nuestra familia, en nuestro ministerio, en nuestro trabajo, en nuestra economía, en fin, “conoces a alguien, traicionas y abandonas a tu esposa y a tus hijos, tienes otros hijos además de los de ella, los muestras en tus redes sociales olvidando a los hijos que dejaste que llevan tu apellido, pasan los años y después te preguntas por qué mis hijos no me quieren, porque mis hijos no me llaman, por qué mis hijos no están conmigo, porque mis hijos no me respetan; respuesta: Daños Colaterales de tu desenfreno”, la palabra dice en Mateo 18:7 “¡Ay del mundo por los tropiezos! Es necesario que vengan tropiezos, pero ¡ay de aquél por quien viene el tropiezo!” Te has puesto a pensar si lo que estás viviendo hoy es la consecuencia o el daño colateral de algo que hiciste en el pasado debido a tu mentalidad egoísta el cual fue tu gran error y arrastras a muchos con tu error.Pero volvamos a la historia de David y Betsabé:Los daños colaterales que produjo David fueron muchos: Betsabé sale embarazada y había que taparle la barriga, la respuesta a esto fue matar al su esposo ya que no accedió a acostarse con su mujer.La mentira, la traición, el engaño, y por ende la muerte del bebé.Veamos con lupa el daño colateral: 2 Samuel 12:7-15 “Entonces dijo Natán a David: Tú eres aquel hombre. Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Yo te ungí por rey sobre Israel, y te libré de la mano de Saúl, y te di la casa de tu señor, y las mujeres de tu señor en tu seno; además te di la casa de Israel y de Judá; y si esto fuera poco, te habría añadido mucho más. ¿Por qué, pues, tuviste en poco la palabra de Jehová, haciendo lo malo delante de sus ojos? A Urías heteo heriste a espada, y tomaste por mujer a su mujer, y a él lo mataste con la espada de los hijos de Amón. Por lo cual ahora no se apartará jamás de tu casa la espada, por cuanto me menospreciaste, y tomaste la mujer de Urías heteo para que fuese tu mujer. Así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo haré levantar el mal sobre ti de tu misma casa, y tomaré tus mujeres delante de tus ojos, y las daré a tu prójimo, el cual yacerá con tus mujeres a la vista del sol. Porque tú lo hiciste en secreto; mas yo haré esto delante de todo Israel y a pleno sol. Entonces dijo David a Natán: Pequé contra Jehová. Y Natán dijo a David: También Jehová ha remitido tu pecado; no morirás. Mas por cuanto con este asunto hiciste blasfemar a los enemigos de Jehová, el hijo que te ha nacido ciertamente morirá. Y Natán se volvió a su casa”.Daño Colateral: Su hijo al que más amaba, Absalón, lo traicionó, lo sacó del trono, tomó a las concubinas de su padre y se acostó con ellas a la luz del sol, delante de todo el pueblo, David tuvo que huir, tuvo que esconderse, tuvo que sufrir penalidades, tuvo que ver morir a su hijo Absalón, su otro hijo Amnón se acostó con la hermana de Absalón, Tamar y Absalón, mató a su propio hermano Amnón, su hijo Salomón mató a Adonías, hijo mayor de David.Si bien es cierto que la bendición de Dios otorgada a David fue grande, su grandeza lo llevó a cometer errores tan graves que se levantaron argumentos de maldición contra su vida, su hogar y su familia, como consecuencia de sus mismos pecados y todo por:Tener en poco la palabra de Dios: Quiero que preste especial atención a esta declaración de Dios, esto es lo más crucial de la vida de David, la Palabra de Dios a través del profeta Samuel fue la que lo había ...

"Strawberries" Perhaps best known as one of the co-founding members of the late great Australian band The Go-Betweens, singer/songwriter Robert Forster has been putting out critically acclaimed solo albums since his 1990 debut Danger In The Past. Over the years he added to his solo discography titles like Calling From A Country Phone and I Had A New York Girlfriend, and now the Brisbane-born Forster is checking in with his ninth solo effort Strawberries. The follow-up to 2023's rousing and affecting The Candle And The Flame, Strawberries is startlingly beautiful and emotionally precise. Produced by Peter Moren of Peter Bjorn and John, the eight numbers on Strawberries range from the jangling album opener "Tell It Back To Me" to the stirring blues of "Good To Cry." Elsewhere, the seven minute "Breakfast On The Train" is not only a great song, it also doubles as a great short story; the title track is a brilliant and simple study of the gobbling of strawberries as a metaphor for domestic bliss and the album closing "Diamonds" quite literally reaches new vocal heights for Mr. Forster. This is one of the best albums you'll hear--it's satisfyingly precise, unreasonably melodic and filled with observational wisdom, meditative self-analysis and quietly unforgettable character studies. "Sprinter" The Florida-born Cat Ridgeway is speeding into national prominence. Or, to be more specific, she's sprinting there. Ridgeway's new album Sprinter is an adrenalized blast of hook-filled rock and roll, howling blues and scruffy pop that's one of the most refreshing listens of the year. A commanding presence with charisma to burn, Ridgeway, along with her band the Tourists, are full of a howling punk-rock electricity that summons everyone from the White Stripes to the Foo Fighters. Now Ridgeway is a self-taught musician who plays harmonica, trumpet, trombone, mandolin, bass, piano and guitar and that's incredibly impressive, but having spoken to her, she has an autodidact streak that runs through her life. "Hue Mirror" In Illness as Metaphor, Susan Sontag once wrote: “Illness is the night side of life, a more onerous citizenship. Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick. Although we all prefer to use the good passport, sooner or later each of us is obliged, at least for a spell, to identify ourselves as citizens of that other place.” Well, my guest today on the program has recently been grappling with the use of the other passport Sontag is referring to and that grappling has yielded a song cycle that no matter what kingdom you find yourself dwelling in, will be moving, inspiring and transcendent." The Chicago born singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jess Robbins was diagnosed with AS, which is more specifically known as anklosing spondylitis, an aggressive autoimmune disease that can cause debilitating chronic pain as well as spinal inflammation and the fusing of the vertebrae. It's scary stuff, but part of Robbins' emotional healing was finally getting a name to go with the symptoms she'd been having for years. The other part of that healing? Making art. Robbins fronts the band Course and their new album Hue Mirror is an effecting song-cycle about navigating the complex and uncertain terrain of chronic pain, physical vulnerability and the uncertainty of the changes AS could bring. Hue Mirror is an unflinching and meditative look at how human frailty translates into art and that translation is where the beauty of this album really lives. Dark, probing, and unflinching, Hue Mirror is a stirring song-cycle that's punctuated by shadowy rhythms, vaporous percussion and and heavenly vocals. It's moving and powerful work but you don't have to be diagnosed with an illness to relate to it--you just have to be a human being with a big beating heart. After all, we're all facing an uncertain future and Hue Mirror is a way of facing it together.
