"Maybe It's Just Me" The indie rock outfit Lost Leaders were formed in 2011 by pals Byron Isaacs and Peter Cole. Isaacs' resume was already pretty full at the time, thanks to his work as the bassist for the Lumineers and playing with the Levon Helm Band and Ollabelle. If that doesn't sound busy enough, Isaacs has also recorded and performed with Bruce Springsteen, Roseanne Cash, Jackson Browne, Amy Helm, and Joan Baez. As for singer/guitarist Cole, his CV was pretty full as well, thanks to his tenure in Lava Baby, long-serving the New York jazz scene and working as a professional audio engineer. Cole and Isaacs have been pals since the late '90s, playing in bands like Slink and Lowdowners in Stereom, but Lost Leaders is where the two musicians really hit their artistic stride. With a handful of winning albums under their belts like Hungry Ghosts, Promises Promises and their self-titled debut album, Lost Leaders' work is redolent with harmonic dexterity, melodic muscle and rootsy bliss. Their latest effort is producing the full soundtrack and composing the original score for the indie film RUN, which stars Sarah Levy, Adam Palley and Chris Redd. By the way, the soundtrack features Amy Helm and Samantha Fish and it's just wonderful Lost Leaders are about to hit the road opening for The Wallflowers, but before they do, they had a chat with us. TransmutaciónEl secreto de la gracia radica en una frase: Aun con todo lo que soy, Dios sigue siendo Dios. Aun cuando merecemos su ira, Dios sigue extendiendo misericordia. Y aunque cada día necesitaríamos corrección por todo lo que hacemos, aun con todo eso, Dios todas las mañanas hace nueva su misericordia. Lamentaciones 3:22-23 (RVR1960) "Por la misericordia de Jehová no hemos sido consumidos, porque nunca decayeron sus misericordias. Nuevas son cada mañana; grande es tu fidelidad."Significa que todo lo que experimentamos todos los días de parte de Dios es por encima de todo lo que somos, Dios no obra porque nosotros lo merezcamos, no nos ganamos nada por mérito propio, esto es porque muchas veces construimos y nosotros mismos lo destruimos; realmente somos la peor materia prima que existe. Así que no hay manera de entender la gracia y el favor de Dios si no entendemos lo que significa la frase: "aun con todo lo que somos, Dios sigue siendo Dios”.Dios no obra porque yo me lo merezca, sino porque Él es bueno. La mayor evidencia de que Dios es bueno es que, aun siendo lo que soy, tengo todo lo que tengo.Y puedo colocar varios ejemplos de lo que somos y de lo que hacemos: Cuántas veces dejamos de diezmar y Dios nos sigue prosperando; Cuántas veces dejamos de ofrendar y Dios sigue proveyendo; Cuántas veces hemos dejado de venir al culto y Dios viene a todos los cultos a esperarnos, para tener un encuentro con nosotros; Cuántas veces dejamos de buscar a Dios, y sin embargo, Dios nos sigue buscando. Porque por encima de todo lo que somos, Dios sigue siendo Dios. Dios no actúa como yo lo hago, porque Él no es igual que yo. Aun con todo, Dios es bueno. Aun con nuestras infidelidades, Dios es fiel2 Timoteo 2:13 (RVR1960) "Si fuéremos infieles, él permanece fiel; Él no puede negarse a sí mismo."Por encima de nuestra infidelidad, Dios sigue siendo fiel. En más de una ocasión hemos sido infieles, y de muchas, muchas maneras, somos infieles el día que le dijimos: "A partir de hoy, todos los días voy a orar", y ese día te acostaste a dormir. Fuiste infiel a tu palabra, fuiste infiel a lo que le dijiste a Dios; Dices: "Señor, a partir de hoy, todos los días voy a leer la Biblia”, y resulta que ese día estabas demasiado cansado, pero estabas en tu celular, en tus redes sociales, de modo que no tuviste tiempo para cumplirle a Dios con tu palabra, y fuiste infiel; Sin embargo, al día siguiente, Dios en su fidelidad siguió cumpliendo su promesa contigo, ¿Cuál? "Todos los días te irá bien", y ese día siguiente te fue bien; Aun con tu infidelidad, Dios sigue siendo fiel, porque Él no puede negarse a sí mismo.Piensa en Pedro; Imaginemos la escena de la última cena: Jesús les está diciendo a sus discípulos que a donde Él va, ellos no pueden ir, en ese momento salta Pedro, impulsivo, lleno de buenas intenciones, pero confiando demasiado en sus propias fuerzas. Pedro se pone de pie, y lanza una promesa: Juan 13:37 (RVR1960) "Le dijo Pedro: Señor, ¿por qué no te puedo seguir ahora? Mi vida pondré por ti."Pero Jesús, que conoce nuestra humanidad mejor que nosotros mismos, lo aterriza de golpe; Él sabe que somos la peor materia prima, que prometemos mucho y cumplimos poco, Juan 13:38 (RVR1960) "Jesús le respondió: ¿Tu vida pondrás por mí? De cierto, de cierto te digo: No cantará el gallo, sin que me hayas negado tres veces."Cualquiera se quedaría callado ante una reprensión directa de Dios, pero a veces nosotros somos demasiado orgullosos. Pedro no se quedó callado, se sintió ofendido y decidió discutirle al propio Maestro, se pone de terco e insistente: Marcos 14:31 (RVR1960) "Mas él decía con mayor insistencia: Si me fuere necesario morir contigo, no te negaré…”Pedro le está porfiando a Dios, le está diciendo: "Tú te equivocas, yo soy más fuerte de lo que crees”; ¿Cuántas veces hacemos nosotros exactamente lo mismo? ¿Cuántas veces le discutimos a Dios nuestras capacidades y juramos: "Señor, yo jamás haré eso, yo jamás caeré”? Y aquí viene lo más hermoso, la verdadera transmutación, Jesús escucha a este hombre terco que le está discutiendo, Jesús sabe que en unas pocas horas ese mismo hombre lo va a abandonar y lo va a negar con maldiciones ¿Y qué hace Jesús? ¿Le voltea la cara? ¿Le dice "pues quédate solo por orgulloso"? ¡No! Inmediatamente después de anunciarle su caída, en la misma conversación, Jesús suelta una de las promesas de consuelo más impresionantes: Juan 14:1 (RVR1960) "No se turbe vuestro corazón; creéis en Dios, creed también en mí."Y pasó exactamente lo que Jesús dijo. Llegó la noche, la presión subió, el miedo lo invadió y Pedro, el mismo que horas antes gritaba que daría su vida, negó a su Maestro con maldiciones y juramentos; Cantó el gallo y Pedro salió a llorar amargamente, rompió su promesa, rompió su palabra, sintió que lo había arruinado todo.Cualquiera de nosotros, en el lugar de Jesús, habría dicho: "Hasta aquí llego contigo, Pedro. Me fallaste en mi peor momento". Pero mira lo que pasa el día de resurrección  cuando las mujeres van al sepulcro vacío y se encuentran con el ángel, allí reciben un mensaje directo del cielo: Marcos 16:7 (RVR1960) "Pero id, decid a sus discípulos, y a Pedro, que él va delante de vosotros a Galilea; allí le veréis, como os dijo.""Y a Pedro" Dios desde el cielo se aseguró de mandar a buscar con nombre propio al que había fallado. El mensaje era: "Díganle a los discípulos, pero especialmente asegúrense de decirle a Pedro, que no me he olvidado de él, que mi cita sigue en pie".Y no solo le mandó a avisar, sino que Jesús mismo fue a buscarlo a la orilla del mar, al mismo lugar donde lo había llamado la primera vez. Pedro, sintiéndose indigno y fracasado, había vuelto a su vieja vida de pescador y allí se le aparece el Señor resucitado. Cuando lo tiene frente a frente, Jesús no llega a reclamarle: "¿No que ibas a morir por mí? ¿No que eras muy valiente? ¡Mírate ahora!". ¡No! Jesús llega a prepararle el desayuno y a restaurar su corazón roto: Juan 21:15 (RVR1960) "Cuando hubieron comido, Jesús dijo a Simón Pedro: Simón, hijo de Jonás, ¿me amas más que estos? Le respondió: Sí, Señor; tú sabes que te amo. Él le dijo: Apacienta mis corderos."¡Esa es la verdadera gracia en acción, esa es la transmutación! Jesús no lo desechó por su error. Aun con todo lo que hizo Pedro, aun con sus mentiras, sus negaciones y su cobardía, a Jesús le plació ir a buscarlo, sentarlo a su mesa, perdonarlo y devolverle su propósito.Si hoy te sientes como Pedro, avergonzado por lo que prometiste y no cumpliste, quiero que sepas que el Señor te está buscando a ti también, Él sabe exactamente dónde estás escondido en tu culpa, y viene a buscarte porque, aun con todo lo que has hecho, Dios sigue siendo Dios.Aun con nuestros pecados, Él nos limpia1 Juan 1:9 (RVR1960) dice: "Si confesamos nuestros pecados, él es fiel y justo para perdonar nuestros pecados, y limpiarnos de toda maldad".Aun con mis pecados, Dios sigue estando dispuesto a perdonarme. Todos los días fallamos de una u otra manera en nuestra mente, en nuestra manera de pensar y de actuar, en nuestro corazón. El crecimiento no te lleva muchas veces a la perfección, sino al reconocimiento del error. Crecer no es dejar de fallar, porque nuestra naturaleza humana nos va a hacer fallar, pero crecer es pelear contra el pec...

"Garage Glamour" It's hard to think of a more dynamic and exciting band as the Claudettes. The Chicago-based rock/blues/pop outfit have been at it since 2010 and with six albums under their belts, including their riveting new one Garage Glamour, The Claudettes have established themselves as one of the most singular outfits on the planet. From Dance Scandal In The Gymnasium to High Times In The Dark, The Claudettes' music is informed as much by Junior Wells as it is The Minutemen. Are they a piano punk band? Sure. Are they a punk piano blues band? Yes. They're all of that. The band's new album Garage Glamour, which features the soulful Rachel Williams, is exhilarating, and life-affirming. It's a sweaty sonic reminder that when the world is falling apart, like it is now, it's music that keeps alive. As for Mr. Iguana, that's the nom de plume of one Brian Berkowitz, the New Jersey-born, Chicago-based braintrust of The Claudettes. Iguana has played with Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Eddie Shaw, Carey Bell and Oh My God, which is the band where our paths first crossed. Es muy común ver que todo el mundo busca beneficios para su cuerpo: queremos ser sanos, sentirnos bien, prosperar físicamente. De igual forma, buscamos constantemente la bendición para nuestro espíritu: anhelamos recibir de Dios los dones espirituales, los milagros, sanidades y prodigios, pero, ¿cuántos buscan realmente bendecir y sanar su alma? Sanar el alma no se logra con pañitos de aguas tibias, por lo que la verdadera prosperidad está íntimamente ligada al alma, recordemos que el indicador de nuestra prosperidad integral comienza en el interior, está escrito en 3 Juan 2 “Amado, yo deseo que tú seas prosperado en todas las cosas, y que tengas salud, así como prospera tu alma.”Es precisamente allí, en el terreno del alma, donde muchas veces fallamos al no trabajar la raíz de nuestros problemas, Jesús fue tajante en Mateo 15:13: "Pero respondiendo él, dijo: Toda planta que no plantó mi Padre celestial, será desarraigada."Este pasaje es impresionante y revelador, la Palabra declara con firmeza que todo aquello que Dios no sembró, irremediablemente será desarraigado. Piensa en esto: tu vida es como un campo; en ese campo siembra Dios, pero también siembra tu familia, tus experiencias y la sociedad; y con el tiempo, empiezas a dar fruto de todo aquello que ha sido depositado en ti.Sin embargo, hay raíces oscuras que no provienen de Dios y que operan en "modo incógnito" bajo la tierra de nuestra alma. Es imprescindible que miremos profundamente, porque quizás hoy, dentro de ti, existan raíces oscuras que Dios jamás plantó, raíces que hasta el día de hoy no has logrado identificar ni erradicar.El mayor peligro de las tinieblas es cuando operan en modo incógnito, escondidas bajo la tierra de nuestra alma, donde no reconocemos lo que hacen ni podemos identificar sus obras destructivas. Hoy es el día para examinar nuestro interior: ¿Hay en ti alguna raíz de mal que deba ser arrancada?Brotando desde lo Oculto: La Raíz de Amargura"Mirad bien, no sea que alguno deje de alcanzar la gracia de Dios; que brotando alguna raíz de amargura, os estorbe, y por ella muchos sean contaminados." (Hebreos 12:15, RVR1960)La Biblia nos enseña que brotar es aquello que sale desde adentro hacia afuera. Brotar es crecer, producir, germinar, es emerger de lo profundo hasta que se hace visible.Traduzcamos esto a nuestra realidad: Muchas veces leemos este versículo y creemos que el problema radica en que alguien se amargó por una situación reciente, pero la Palabra no habla de gente que se amargó de un día para otro; la Biblia nos advierte sobre personas que siempre llevaron esa amargura por dentro, solo que aún no se había evidenciado. La palabra clave y reveladora en este pasaje es que "brotó" una raíz que ya estaba allí pero que no se veía. ¿Cuántas raíces tenemos guardadas en el interior que no se ven, pero que de vez en cuando brotan, emergen y salen a la luz?A veces escuchamos decir: "El hermano se amargó en la iglesia". ¡No! No se amargó en la iglesia; siempre fue un amargado, pero la raíz no había brotado, aún no se había manifestado lo que realmente llevaba en su interior, el Señor te está diciendo que hay cosas dentro de ti que todavía no has arrancado y que, en el momento menos pensado, salen a la superficie.Vemos personas que llegan a la iglesia, le entregan su vida a Cristo y reciben de Dios, pero nunca empiezan el trabajo de desarraigar las raíces que traen, la raíz sigue ahí, escondida bajo la tierra y escuche bien esto: aunque lo que estaba afuera se haya quemado, se haya dañado, se haya deteriorado, o incluso se haya podado y cortado... mientras quede raíz, siempre habrá el peligro de que algo vuelva a brotar.Podar el Carácter vs. Desarraigar la RaízTristemente, vemos que la iglesia vive modificando el comportamiento, pero no se ocupa de desarraigar el carácter, nos hemos acostumbrado a ocultar los traumas, pero jamás los arrancamos de raíz, y es por eso que, en algún momento de nuestra vida, algo inesperado nace.Es entonces cuando decimos: "Pero yo creía que ya había sido libre", "Yo pensé que había resuelto mi problema", la dura realidad es que solo se podó; se cortó la maleza superficial, pero el mal jamás se desarraigó, y en el momento menos pensado, la raíz de lo que realmente llevamos por dentro volvió a brotar.El peligro más grande de la raíz es su naturaleza: está diseñada para aferrarse, para agarrarse de algo y evitar ser arrancada. Podemos intentar arrancar una mata por encima, pero es casi imposible sacar todas las raíces de un solo tirón, porque allá en lo profundo, en lo oscuro de la tierra, se agarraron de las piedras, se enredaron en los troncos e incluso se entrelazaron con otras raíces para hacerse más fuertes.Muchas veces venimos a la congregación y los pastores empiezan a corregir, a podar nuestro exterior: "Hermano, no hable así", "Baje el volumen", "Hermana, no le grite a su esposo", "No vuelva a maltratar a su familia". Pasamos todo el tiempo simplemente podando, pero inevitablemente llega el momento donde esa raíz brota, renace y reaparece. ¿Por qué? Porque aunque cortaste lo aparente, jamás erradicaste el problema de fondo.Hemos permitido que se levante una generación que vive de apariencias, pensamos: "Mientras yo me vea bien por fuera, no importa qué raíz tenga por dentro, no importa lo que lleve en el alma ni quién soy realmente en mi casa", llegamos al extremo de encubrirnos unos a otros: "Mi esposa va a cubrir mis raíces malas porque no podemos dañar la reputación que tenemos como familia".Vivimos de apariencias, olvidando que las raíces, tarde o temprano, siempre salen a la luz. Atrévase hoy a confrontar su realidad. "¿Qué raíz tienes escondida que está a punto de brotar?"La Contaminación de la RaízDice la Palabra que la raíz no solo te estorba cuando se evidencia, cuando finalmente brota, sino que además empieza a contaminar a otros. Tienes que entender una verdad espiritual muy seria: cuando lo que está oculto en tu corazón se manifiesta, tus hijos y tu familia es contaminada.¿Qué sucede cuando lo que está adentro empieza a evidenciarse afuera? Alguien dice: "Yo no sé qué me pasó que me puse violento, ¡si yo soy un hombre pacífico!", la realidad es que la raíz de la ira siempre estuvo ahí; nunca la quitaste.Nos acostumbramos a culpar a la gente y a las circunstancias, pero en el fondo el problema soy yo, que tengo una raíz que no he logrado arrancar; miremos el fundamento a través de Deuteronomio 29:18: "No sea que haya entre vosotros varón, o mujer, o familia, o tribu, cuyo corazón se aparte hoy de Jehová nuestro Dios, para ir a servir a los dioses de esas naciones; no sea que haya en medio de vosotros raíz que produzca hiel y ajenjo." Now, people throw that term out a tad lazily but in the case of Berkeley, it truly fits. Aside from releasing close to ten perfect albums, including The Confluence, Some Kind Of Cure and Oh Quiet World, Berkeley is an author, a label owner, and he's been a river rafting guide, a band manager, a travel writer and a creative writing teacher. A writer of tremendous depth, focus and sensitivity, much like Paul Simon or Nick Drake, Berkeley has the uncanny ability to slow the world down and hold it still. La Biblia me enseña cómo tener una buena vida, una vida feliz, una vida larga, que es uno de los anhelos que tenemos. Salmos 34:12-14 dice así la Palabra: “¿Quién es el hombre que desea vida, que desea muchos días para ver el bien? Guarda tu lengua del mal, y tus labios de hablar engaño. Apártate del mal, y haz el bien; busca la paz, y síguela” (RVR1960) / “¿Quieres vivir una vida larga y próspera? Dejen de hablar mal de otros, de andar diciendo mentiras; aléjense del mal y hagan lo bueno, procuren vivir siempre en paz”. (Nueva Traducción Viviente - NTV).El secreto de vivir bien la vida, no es un secreto. Es una realdad evidente: todos anhelamos una existencia plena y longeva. Pero cuando miramos la Palabra del Señor, encontramos a David escapando de la muerte. Él escribe este salmo en un momento de crisis extrema, cuya historia encontramos en 1 Samuel 21:12-15, cuando tuvo que fingir demencia ante el rey Aquis de Gat para salvar su vida. La Biblia dice que David “cambió su manera de comportarse delante de ellos, y se fingió loco entre sus manos, y escribía en las portadas de las puertas, y dejaba correr su saliva por su barba” (RVR1960). Literalmente recurrió a todo lo humanamente posible para aferrarse a la vida, demostrando cuánto amamos la vida.Desde esa profunda experiencia, David reflexiona en el Salmo 34 y nos confronta con una pregunta vital: "¿Quién de nosotros quiere vivir y disfrutar de una buena vida?". Ahí es donde el salmista nos sacude el alma y nos enseña que no se trata simplemente de existir, sino de saber vivir.A veces estamos llevando una vida que no es sana, ni correcta, ni se acerca a lo que verdaderamente llamamos una "buena vida". Y lo curioso es que David no nos dice: "Si quieres vivir bien, cuida tus finanzas, acumula riquezas o alcanza el poder". ¡No! Él nos confronta con el carácter espiritual de nuestra existencia. Se mete en terrenos tan profundos que uno dice: "Tal vez nunca lo había mirado desde esa perspectiva”. Él nos habla del poder de nuestra boca, nos urge a apartarnos de la maldad y nos desafía a vivir en paz. Son las preocupaciones, la ansiedad y las tensiones internas las que empiezan a destruir tu cuerpo, tu mente y tu corazón, haciendo que toda tu vida se marchite.Y aquí surge una pregunta con la que quiero sacudir tu corazón: ¿Qué tan cerca estamos de Dios hoy? Puede que estemos muy cerca del dinero, del poder, de las propiedades o de los logros terrenales; pero la verdadera pregunta es: ¿qué tan cerca estoy del Creador?Una larga existencia es hermosa, siempre y cuando sea una buena vida. Vivir muchos años sumido en la tristeza, el aburrimiento, la enfermedad o la amargura no es una bendición, ¡es una tortura y una maldición! Cuando Jesús habita en el corazón, todo cambia. No te estoy ofreciendo la falsa expectativa de una vida perfecta y libre de aflicciones; te hablo de una vida en la que, al tener a Cristo dentro de nuestro corazón, sabremos exactamente cómo encarar las tormentas. En lugar de permitir que los problemas te derriben y te destruyan, tú vas con fe y te postras ante la cruz, entregándole a Él toda tu carga.Esa es la gran diferencia entre el que solo tiene dinero y el que tiene a Dios; tú y yo tenemos al Señor, y sabemos con absoluta certeza que para Él no hay nada imposible. Esa es la diferencia entre el que confía en el poder humano, en las influencias o en las alianzas políticas, y aquel que camina de la mano de Dios. Si anhelas disfrutar de una vida plena, fuerte, renovada y rebosante de entusiasmo, hoy te convoco a correr hacia una vida espiritual sana.Por tal razón, nadie alcanzará esa vida bendecida basándose únicamente en la oración; la clave definitiva está en la obediencia. Muchos creen que basta con pasar horas orando o exhibiendo una religiosidad superficial, pero la Palabra del Señor es categórica en Santiago 1:22: “Pero sed hacedores de la palabra, y no tan solamente oidores, engañándoos a vosotros mismos” (RVR1960). Cuando decidimos obedecer de corazón, es ahí cuando dejamos las palabras atrás y empezamos a caminar firmes en Su verdad.El poder de las palabrasAlgo contundente que nos enseña el salmista es esto: "Si quieres tener una buena vida, tendrás que cuidar la boca". Si no frenas lo que dices, las palabras que salen de tu boca inevitablemente van a causar estragos irreparables. Si empezamos a lanzar palabras hirientes, incorrectas y destructivas, alteramos ese diseño. Cuando en medio del conflicto recurrimos a frases como: "Bruto", "tonto", "no sirves para nada", "nunca debí casarme contigo", "es que mi mamá me lo advirtió, eres un bueno para nada" o "el día que te mueras no te voy a llorar"... todas esas palabras no solo maldicen tu propia vida, sino que destruyen el alma de los demás. Por eso, la Palabra del Señor es tan radical en Proverbios 18:21 al advertirnos: “La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua, y el que la ama comerá de sus frutos” (RVR1960).Esto es exactamente lo que provocamos cuando le lanzamos ráfagas de amargura a un hijo o a nuestra pareja. La Biblia nos confronta: "¿Quieres vivir bien y disfrutar de largos días?". Permíteme sumarle algo más a esa pregunta: ¿Quieres tener un matrimonio sólido? ¿Quieres ver a tu familia unida? ¿Anhelas que tus hijos te respeten, que en tu hogar te amen y que al llegar a casa corran a abrazarte? Entonces, empieza por gobernar tus palabras, especialmente en los momentos de ira. No fuimos llamados a destilar veneno ni a descargar basura sobre los seres que amamos. El momento de crisis es para ir a derramar nuestro dolor y nuestra frustración, pero de rodillas delante del Señor; allí, en Su presencia, nuestro lamento no le hace daño a nadie. Cuida tu boca y tu vida será mejor; cuida tu boca y el entorno de tu familia cambiará; cuida tu boca y te vas a ahorrar una cantidad inimaginable de problemas. Qué desastre tan terrible provocan las palabras descontroladas en nuestra vida, y es precisamente por ahí por donde debemos comenzar a corregir. 1.Frenar la lenguaSi quieres vivir bien y anhelas disfrutar de una larga existencia, el secreto comienza justo aquí: Tenemos que refrenar la lengua. Volvamos a la instrucción de las Escrituras en el Salmo 34; el consejo es claro y directo: "Guarda tu lengua del mal, y tus labios de hablar engaño". Dios no anda con rodeos; si de verdad queremos una buena vida, el punto de partida es erradicar el chisme, la crítica, la maledicencia y la mentira de nuestro vocabulario.La boca es el espejo del alma. Uno puede intentar camuflar o esconder lo que lleva por dentro durante un tiempo; podemos fingir en el corazón o en la mente, pero tarde o temprano, la boca nos va a delatar. Lo que guardamos en lo más profundo del ser terminará saliendo a la luz, porque la boca siempre revela lo que el corazón intenta ocultar. El mismo Jesús lo dejó establecido con una fuerza impresionante en Mateo 12:34: “¡Generación de víboras! ¿Cómo podéis hablar lo bueno, siendo malos? Porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca” (RVR1960).Así que ninguna palabra sale por azar; no es un simple "se me escapó" o "me equivoqué". Es verdad que hay temporadas de profunda crisis o dolor donde el alma se desahoga, como lo hizo Job 7:11 cuando exclamó en su angustia: “Por tanto, no frenaré mi boca; hablaré en la angustia de mi espíritu, y me quejaré en la amargura de mi alma” (RVR1960). Pero una cosa es derramar el quebranto ante Dios y otra muy distinta es andar con la boca suelta difamando, murmurando y lanzando veneno contra el prójimo. "Crying The Neck" With seven marvelous albums under his musical belt, including 2003's Lycanthropy, 2005's Wind In The Wires and his latest album Crying The Neck, which broke a nearly fifteen-year hiatus from recorded music, Patrick Wolf is a wondrous talent. The London-born musician is one of the most arresting artists on the planet--his songs effortlessly meld trip-hop, electronica and indie rock into some of the most compelling, dramatic and altogether moving compositions you're likely to hear. Wolf's music is literary, emotionally precise and sonically arresting. Juan 5:44 "¿Cómo podéis vosotros creer, pues recibís gloria los unos de los otros, y no buscáis la gloria que viene del Dios único?"Tanto el mundo como los cristianos están envueltos en engaños e hipocresías, divisiones, contiendas, iras, celos y envidias; la culpa, vergüenza, falta de perdón, amargura, raíz de amargura, el miedo, resentimiento y orgullo y la respuesta a estos comportamientos son las máscaras. Lo hacemos con el único fin de vernos bien o que nos vean bien.Quiero hacer énfasis en una conversación que sostuvo Jesús con unos personajes llamados “Los fariseos”, Jesús le dio la etiqueta de hipócritas y generación de víboras en Mateo 12:34-35 “¡Generación de víboras! ¿Cómo podéis hablar lo bueno, siendo malos? Porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca.  El hombre bueno, del buen tesoro del corazón saca buenas cosas; y el hombre malo, del mal tesoro saca malas cosas”.Y Juan 5:39-40, Jesús les dijo: “Escudriñad las Escrituras; porque a vosotros os parece que en ellas tenéis la vida eterna; y ellas son las que dan testimonio de mí; y no queréis venir a mí para que tengáis vida”, los fariseos se comían las escrituras buscando salvación pero ignoraban al verbo, al autor de la Palabra, al autor de la salvación, estos personajes ostentaban el mayor conocimiento de la Ley en su tiempo,  eran los "iluminados" de la época; aquellos que parecían comprender la vida mejor que nadie; Si alguien buscaba un consejo sabio, una solución legal o una respuesta espiritual, ellos eran la referencia obligada, pues eran los intérpretes oficiales de la Palabra.Sin embargo, a lo largo del ministerio de Jesús, vemos una constante tensión doctrinal con ellos. Jesús no cuestionaba su intelecto, sino su incoherencia, confrontándolos con una verdad incómoda: "El problema no es lo que ustedes saben, el problema es lo que hacen", Mateo 23:2-3 “En la cátedra de Moisés se sientan los escribas y los fariseos. Así que, todo lo que os digan que guardéis, guardadlo y hacedlo; mas no hagáis conforme a sus obras, porque dicen, y no hacen”, prácticamente Jesús los denominó “hipócritas, falsos, mentirosos, vanos e ilusos” personas con falta de decisión para ser verdaderos delante de Dios; ademas los llamó incongruentes …Dicen, pero no hacen. Incongruencia es la falta de correspondencia entre una cosa y otra. Es hacer algo que es contrario a lo que decimos. La incongruencia en el cristianismo moderno es que hablamos mucho pero hacemos muy poco. Predicamos tanto el Evangelio pero lo vivimos muy poco. La incongruencia entre lo que hacemos y decimos solo demuestra la falta de autenticidad de nuestra vida. Solo comprueba que existe un gran carencia de verdad en nuestras vidas. No nos hemos percatado que las palabras son menos eficaces que las acciones que realizamos cuando no coinciden unas con las otras. La iglesia está enferma de incongruencia, no somos coherentes con lo que creemos, lo que hablamos y la vida real que llevamos; lo que predicamos es diferente a lo que vivimos, hablamos palabras en vez de acciones que muestren que realmente Cristo vive en nosotros, enseñamos pero en realidad lo que enseñamos no lo vivimos, eso se llama religión, escuche esto: “Nuestras vidas deben ser consistentes con lo que somos”.Al estudiar las Escrituras, me detuve en tres versículos que me sacudieron. Entendí que el fariseísmo no es un grupo histórico, sino una tendencia del corazón humano que nos afecta a todos hoy.El diagnóstico: Fariseos modernosHistóricamente, los fariseos fueron un grupo influyente en la esfera política, social y religiosa de Israel. Se caracterizaban por una observancia milimétrica de la Ley mosaica y de las tradiciones orales. Eran estudiosos, preparados y muy populares entre el pueblo; de hecho, ellos sentaron las bases de lo que hoy conocemos como el judaísmo rabínico. Sin embargo, esa misma preparación los convirtió a menudo en los principales antagonistas de Jesús.El Maestro los confrontaba en tres áreas específicas que, si las traemos a nuestro siglo, actúan como un espejo para muchos de nosotros. Yo los llamaría: “Fariseos modernos”.Son personas que están físicamente muy cerca de la iglesia, muy cerca de la Palabra y muy cerca de los rituales, pero emocional y espiritualmente están a kilómetros de una transformación real.Piénsenlo bien: hoy en día tenemos más recursos que nunca. Tenemos acceso a miles de prédicas, múltiples versiones de la Biblia, libros, videos, retiros, conciertos y eventos masivos, nunca hubo tanta información espiritual; pero paradójicamente, hay mucha gente que sigue hundida en el fariseísmo: mucha religión, pero poca vida espiritual. Para poder experimentar un cambio genuino y no quedarnos solo en la superficie, necesitamos profundizar en estos tres principios que la Biblia nos revela:COMUNIÓN CON DIOSEn Juan 5:39-40, Jesús les lanza una verdad que quema: "Ustedes escudriñan las Escrituras porque les parece que en ellas tienen la vida eterna... pero no quieren venir a MÍ para que tengan vida".Los fariseos eran expertos en información, pero analfabetos en transformación. Ojo, el Señor no está negando el valor de la Biblia; al contrario, está diciendo: "La Palabra es el mapa, pero yo soy el destino". El mapa no te sirve de nada si no llegas al lugar.El problema no es la falta de conocimiento, sino la falta de intimidad. La comunión es mucho más que calentar una silla el domingo o leer un capítulo por compromiso, la verdadera comunión nace cuando empezamos a cultivar una vida de oración.Yo sé que todos tenemos agendas apretadas, algunos arrancan antes de que salga el sol, otros lidian con los hijos, las prisas del tráfico o las presiones de la oficina, pero la clave de la comunión no es tener "tiempo libre", es hacerle un espacio a Dios en el tiempo que ya tienes.¿Por qué es vital? Porque cuando estás muy ocupado pero no tienes intimidad con el Padre, tu vida se empieza a secar, esta es la razón por la que hay tanta gente irritable, explosiva y amargada. Dicen: "Me siento agotado, no disfruto la vida aunque lo tenga todo". Eso pasa porque te falta el combustible de la intimidad con Dios.Necesitas recordar que el Espíritu Santo va contigo en el carro camino al trabajo; está contigo en la oficina; está contigo mientras preparas el desayuno. Él prometió estar con nosotros todos los días, el problema es que lo estamos ignorando. Mateo 28:19-20 “Por tanto, id, y haced discípulos a todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; enseñándoles que guarden todas las cosas que os he mandado; y he aquí yo estoy con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo. Amén”. La oración diaria te transforma; ignorar a Dios te deforma. Si tu única "porción espiritual" es el domingo, te vas a desnutrir, el Espíritu Santo quiere encontrarse contigo en el almuerzo, en la calle, donde sea".Muchos cristianos reciben la Palabra con gozo aquí adentro, pero afuera se les seca porque no tienen raíz, así como los fariseos, tenían los títulos, pero no tenían contacto con Jesús. Muchos no encuentran el poder para avanzar en la vida; el poder no está en lo que sabes, sino en a quién buscas.No intentes cambiar en tus propias fuerzas; ve a Él y dile: "Señor, yo no puedo solo, perfecciona tu poder en mi debilidad", todo se sella de rodillas, transforma tu trayecto al trabajo en un altar y dale a Dios los primeros minutos de cada actividad, esa decisión es la que realmente te va a transformar.EL AMOR DE DI...

Al hacer esto, la verdad se reduce a una simple opinión. La Biblia es tajante en Juan 17:17 (RVR1960): “Santifícalos en tu verdad; tu palabra es verdad”.El relativismo dice: "lo que es verdad para ti, no lo es para mí". Cuando el primer lugar se comparte, Dios deja de ser el número uno. El adormecimiento ocurre cuando convertimos la iglesia en un club social. Debemos estar alertas como está escrito en 1 Pedro 5:8 (RVR1960): “Sed sobrios, y velad; porque vuestro adversario el diablo, como león rugiente, anda alrededor buscando a quien devorar”.La espiritualidad es personal, no global:El congregarse no sustituye el devocional: Orar en la iglesia no reemplaza tu oración en el secreto de tu casa. Mateo 6:6 (RVR1960) dice: “Mas tú, cuando ores, entra en tu aposento, y cerrada la puerta, ora a tu Padre que está en secreto...”.La prédica no sustituye tu lectura: Que el pastor lea la Biblia no quita tu responsabilidad de escudriñarla.El evento no sustituye la intimidad: La "carga de batería" del domingo no te servirá para toda la semana si no buscas a Dios a diario.Semilla 3: La Normalización del PecadoEs cuando lo que es pecado se celebra como "ser auténtico". Isaías 5:20 (RVR1960) nos advierte: “¡Ay de los que a lo malo dicen bueno, y a lo bueno malo; que hacen de las tinieblas luz, y de la luz tinieblas; que ponen lo amargo por dulce, y lo dulce por amargo!”.Se han redefinido los conceptos, ahora se dice que no se puede predicar sobre la culpa, solo sobre la gracia, pero ojo: la responsabilidad no es culpa. Buscar a Dios, leer la Biblia y orar no es una "hazaña heroica", es tu responsabilidad y disciplina espiritual. Como dice Romanos 12:2 (RVR1960): “No os conforméis a este siglo, sino transformaos por medio de la renovación de vuestro entendimiento...”.No podemos permitir que se nos "zafen los tornillos" y normalicemos el pecado en casa, lo que está mal, está mal, aunque todo el mundo lo haga. Dejemos de ser "focas de circo" que aplauden cualquier concepto moderno y empecemos a cuestionar lo que contradice la Verdad.

"But What Time Is It Really?" Because their legacy is so vast, their musical output so singular and their influence so far-reaching, telling you a little bit about Cabaret Voltaire is like telling you a little bit about outer space. A long tine ago, say 1973, in a galaxy far, far away, say Sheffield, England, Richard H. Kirk, Stephen Mallinder and Chris Watson got together to, in their words, make music without musical instruments. What did that mean? Well, it meant innovation because this was not a three-piece banging away in a garage, it was three guys experimenting with tape loops, custom-built kit oscillators, keyboards and wind instruments. Although traditional instruments were included, Cabaret Voltaire were anything but a traditional band. Falling somewhere between performance art and industrial music, Cabaret Voltaire remain one of the most innovative, idiosyncratic and unique bands of all time. Incorporating elements of techno, house, funk, synthpop, electronica and dub, the band's striking soundscapes were massively influential to bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, Skinny Puppy, David J. and Nine Inch Nails. Watson left the band in 1981 but Mallinder and Kirk soldiered on, keeping up Cabaret Voltaire's unbelievable working pace. The band put out fifteen albums in as many years, including classics like Mix-Up, Red Mecca, The Crackdown and Micro-Phonies. Kirk died in 2021 at 65 and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band, Mallinder and Watson started touring, put out a live album and will be on the road until year's end, taking their valedictory bow. A journalist, an academic, a studio owner, a producer and a filmmaker whose videos have been exhibited at MOMA in New York, Mallinder remains a busy man and I'll let him tell you all about that. But let me say this: if you listen to Cabaret Voltaire, it's like listening to the future before it happened. "Together Again" When it comes to the Wisconsin-born John McCutcheon and the Chicago-born Tom Paxton, there's no way to condense their amazing careers into a three-minute introduction, but that's the challenge I have before me, so I'm going to do the best I can. Putting it simply, McCutcheon and Paxton are two of the most towering figures in the history of folk music. Let's start with McCutcheon. He's recorded close to fifty albums, he's got six Grammy nominations, he's written three children's books and he's played shows all over the world. McCutcheon is a master of the hammered dulcimer and he also plays banjo, jaw harp, and the fiddle. As for Mr. Paxton, he's recorded close to seventy albums, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, authored close to 20 books, had one of his songs used in a Monty Python episode and toured around the world. He even played a show with Black Sabbath. More on that in a minute. McCutcheon and Paxton's friendship is a glorious thing and their musical partnership has yielded two albums, including their latest effort, the absolutely marvelous Together Again. I think of Paxton and McCutcheon as the Steve Martin and Martin Short of folk music and here's why. Their creative partnership has ignited them both in new and rejuvenating ways. And Together Again offers great evidence of this--filled with lyrical economy and precision as well as musical finesse played with dexterity and grace, this is an album of tremendous depth and sensitivity. "Homecoming" Ernest Hemingway once wrote, “I regarded home as a place I left behind in order to come back to it afterward.” That is exactly the sentiment that has fueled Mark Crozer's marvelous new album Homecoming. The Oxford-bred Crozer left home as a young man and in many ways he never looked back because he was always moving forward. And that forward thing worked pretty well. The singer/songwriter and guitarist had been in several bands as a teenager, but his two solo albums 1999's Shining Down On Me and 2002's Unnatural World really put hin on the map. He joined the Jesus and Mary Chain back in 2007 and he's been a member of the band ever since. And he's quietly been packing his CV with other highlights like collaborating with Consequence, working with Mitch Easter playing in Mark Crozer and the Rels and the International Jetsetters with Loz Colbert of Ride and his song "Broken out in Love" was bought the WWE, renamed "Live In Fear" and used as an entrance theme. His new album, the aformentioned Homecoming, is a stirring and deeply atmospheric song cycle that confronts getting older, the quality of love, the devastation of loss and the definition of what home really is. "Illegal Hit" The Swedish-born Björn Yttling is a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and record label owner. And you thought you were busy. Yttling is the Björn in the indie pop band Peter Bjorn and John and his resume' is so vast when I give you just a partial glimpse of what he's done, you'll realize you really haven't been busy. At all. Among other instruments, Yttling plays electric bass, celeste, acoustic and electric guitar, mellotron, organ, percussion, piano, and synthesizer. He's produced and written songs with Robyn, The Pretenders, Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand, Sparks, Shout Out Louds, Lykke Li, Sahara Hotnights, he's a member of the indie rock supergroup LIV, he's co-founder of the artist collective and record label INGRID and his other band, the free-form jazz combo Yttling Jazz is an ongoing proposition, with two albums under their belts, including their latest effort Illegal Hit.
