"Automated Paradise" The Bristol-born Jon Klein got his start with the late-seventies post-punk outfit Europeans. After their break-up he formed the porto-goth band Specimen, who put out a handful of winning singles, but splintered before an album could be released. In 1987 Klein joined Siouxsie and the Banshees and went on to record three records with them: Peepshow, Superstition and The Rapture. Although Klein left the band in 1994, from there he moved from strength to strength, playing and recording with Shriekbak, Thomas Dolby, Talvin Singh and Space Tribe. He toured with Sinead O'Connor as her lead guitarist in 1995 and he played everywhere from Pinkpop to Glastonbury to Lollapalooza. Klein is one of those guys who has always stayed busy: he played in the band SNAIL, toured Southeast Asia as the musical director for Dr. Penguin's Magic Circus, went to art school and knocked out a degree in Fine Art and Critical Theory, has his own production company called Ground Control, co- produced an album for Fangoria, which hit Number One in Spain, composed soundtracks for film and theatre companies and played in the supergroup, Spammed with Horace Panter, Rat Scabies and Terry Edwards. He's also a filmmaker, an international fine artist and he is a member of the Tuned In Community Music Project with Jah Wobble. Klein and Jah Wobble have put out several fabulous albums, including A Brief History of Now and their latest effort, Automated Paradise. "All The Beauty" With close to 15 albums under his musical belt, the New Jersey-born Pete Yorn is one of the most arresting and compelling singer/songwriters on the planet. Abraham, el padre de la fe, fue probado en su lealtad hacia Dios en un momento de gran lucha, cuando entendió que se le pedía entregar a su único hijo. Aunque no entendía por qué Dios le pedía esto, la Escritura nos dice que nunca dudó en su corazón del buen propósito de Dios. La primera lealtad a la que Dios nos llama es una lealtad sin compromisos, inquebrantable hacia Él, porque Dios es digno de esa lealtad. Resolviendo conflictos en nuestras lealtadesHabrá momentos en la vida donde nuestras lealtades entrarán en conflicto: hacia la familia, los líderes, la compañía donde trabajamos o el equipo al que servimos. Lo que nos va a ayudar a resolver ese conflicto es precisamente tener claras cuáles son nuestras prioridades. Si quieres saber a dónde vas a llegar en diez años, revisa quiénes son tus amigos hoy. "Boxing The Compass" Haircut 100 have always been one of my all-time favorite bands. The only tricky thing with having them as a favorite for all these years is there's only one album, 1982's Pelican West, which is a flawless platter of beachside new wave that effortlessly veers into pop, jazz, and funk. There is a second album Paint by Paint and there's nothing wrong with what's on it, the problem with that album is what's not on it. And that's Nick Heyward. El deber intransferible de los padres en el hogarInstrucción y crianza: La formación espiritual y moral de los hijos es responsabilidad de los padres (Deuteronomio 6:6-7, Efesios 6:4), no del colegio, los abuelos ni la iglesia.Consagrar el hogar (Chanak): De acuerdo con Proverbios 22:6 (RVR1960), "instruir" significa dedicar y consagrar solemnemente el hogar a Dios a través del tiempo en familia, la oración y la lectura bíblica.El ejemplo activo: La enseñanza más impactante se da con el ejemplo diario en lo privado (1 Corintios 11:1, Santiago 1:22, Lucas 6:45).3. "Battle For The Yellow" The Six-Foot-Six John Tesh cuts an imposing figure, but consider the numbers of his CV. "Always" We've devastated to hear the news of the passing of the Trashcan Sinatras' John Douglas. We're so grateful that we had a chance to sit down with him last year for a chat. The Scottish-born singer/songwriter/guitarist was a lovely guy and this conversation is a generous glimpse into his creative process. Our thoughts are with his friends, his family and his bandmates.

"We Were Made For These Times" It's been 40 years since the Grammy-Award winning band the Klezmatics formed in the East Villag. In the same way the Pogues fused Irish folk with punk rock, the New York klezmer outfit have grafted centuries-old Yiddish music with iterations of contemporary music including jazz, gospel, punk, classical, Latin, and Balkan styles. " Quiero invitarlos a analizar la historia y meternos en la intimidad de una de las familias más conocidas de la Biblia: La familia de Abraham y Sara:Dios les había dado una gran promesa, pero los años pasaban y nada que se cumplía. Así que, en medio del desespero, decidieron hacer lo que muchos de nosotros hacemos hoy en día: intentar "ayudarle" a Dios con una solución puramente humana.De esa decisión nace Ismael. Fue un hijo producto de la carne, del afán y de la lógica humana, no del diseño del Espíritu. Sara y Abraham armaron una solución que, por encima, parecía resolver el problema, pero que en el fondo era frágil y trajo mucho dolor tanto en la vida de Sara como también en la vida a Agar. Construyeron una solución "de cartón". Y las consecuencias de intentar forzar las cosas en sus propias fuerzas, en lugar de esperar la promesa de Dios, generaron conflictos familiares tan profundos que aún en el día de hoy podemos ver las consecuencias.Precisamente sobre este contraste entre lo que hacemos en nuestras fuerzas y lo que Dios hace a través de su Espíritu, es que el apóstol Pablo nos habla hoy en su carta a los Gálatas: "Pero como entonces el que había nacido según la carne perseguía al que había nacido según el Espíritu, así también ahora." — Gálatas 4:29 (RVR1960)Es interesante ver los dos planos que el apóstol Pablo propone para llevar a los gálatas a reflexionar; los lleva a analizar cuándo algo proviene del Espíritu y cuándo algo proviene de la carne.Por eso, me centré en este pasaje para estudiar un poco a esta familia, ya que el apóstol Pablo la trae a colación. Vamos a revisar los peligros que amenazan a las familias, esos desafíos por los cuales todos atravesamos en estos tiempos.A menudo nos enseñan cómo construir una familia, cómo formarla y cómo convivir en ella, pero solemos perder de vista los errores que nosotros mismos generamos. A veces queremos que nuestras familias mejoren y sean transformadas, pero los cambios que proponemos son meramente humanos; y cuando son de origen humano, lastimosamente no son permanentes, sino pasajeros.Lo explico de esta manera: si intentas imponer reglas en tu hogar motivado por la ira, el resentimiento o el mal carácter, tal vez consigas resultados temporales, pero no lograrás un cambio real. Podrás infundir temor, pero nunca una verdadera transformación. Y cuando escudriñamos la Palabra para entender por qué sucede esto, descubrimos una gran verdad que hoy quiero compartir contigo y con todas las familias que me escuchan: la única forma de que un hogar sea verdaderamente transformado es a través del Espíritu Santo.Podemos acumular riquezas, alcanzar un alto nivel educativo, tener prestigio social o mucho reconocimiento, pero hoy vengo a decirte que la única manera de edificar una familia sólida es mediante el poder del Espíritu Santo.Si deseas tener una buena familia, necesitas a Cristo. Todo lo demás es bienvenido (los recursos económicos, que tus hijos estudien en un excelente colegio o en una gran universidad), pero absolutamente nada podrá reemplazar la presencia de Dios en un hogar. Cuando permites que la presencia de Dios reine en tu casa, tendrás una familia bendecida para Su gloria. Si Cristo está en la casa, la familia avanza. Cuando Cristo gobierna el hogar, este trasciende hacia el propósito que Dios ha trazado para él. A la manera de Dios o a mi maneraAhora, ¿qué pasa cuando los cambios y la transformación en una familia no nacen del Espíritu? Entonces provienen de tus opiniones, provienen de tu crianza. Muchas veces decimos: "Es que así me criaron a mí". Entonces, como tu papá cogía un palo, tú ya también tienes un palo; y como tu mamá tenía una chancla, tú también andas por ahí armado con una chancla en la cintura porque así te criaron. Hoy no vine a hablarte de tu crianza, hoy vine a hablarte del poder del Espíritu de Dios para que transforme a la familia. No vine a hablarte de lo que viviste en los tiempos de tus abuelos, vine a decirte que Dios está interesado en tu familia para traer una transformación a través del Espíritu, y no por métodos humanos.Cuando permites que Cristo intervenga en tu familia, entonces ya no serán tus opiniones ni tus emociones las que manden, porque actuar bajo nuestras emociones hace que, en lugar de arreglar las cosas, empeoren mucho más. Lo que nace de la carne se daña, pero lo que es del Espíritu permanece. Por eso te decía que esos cambios que hacemos en nuestra carne, si son normas, están muy bien, pero hay que ungirlas con el Espíritu Santo en oración, hay que pedir que Dios nos guíe y nos hable para que las cosas realmente puedan mejorar, porque cuando lo haces solo a tu manera, el hogar va por un camino en cierta temporada y por otro muy distinto en otra.Veo en la Biblia que el apóstol Pablo menciona a Isaac y a Ismael para hacer el paralelo entre cuando Dios mete la mano y cuando el hombre mete la mano. Si hemos traído al psicólogo para que nos ayude en casa, no está mal. Si hemos acudido al médico, no está mal; o al arquitecto... Hacemos tantas cosas por nuestra casa en lo físico, en la estructura, en lo mental y en lo emocional. Pero hoy vine a decirte: invita a Cristo a que viva en tu casa, no solo a que la visite. Cuando Cristo vive en la casa, a la casa le va bien, es bendecida, los hijos son bendecidos, el matrimonio es bendecido. No a tu manera, sino a la manera de Dios.Como un ejercicio pedagógico y para que lo recuerdes, quiero que lo pienses así: vamos a definir si en nuestra casa estamos haciendo las cosas a la manera de Dios o a tu manera. Tenemos la tendencia a querer hacerlo a nuestra manera, nos gusta, entonces nos imponemos y decimos cosas como: "¡Aquí se va a hacer así!". Ese tipo de actitudes demuestran que en esa casa se están haciendo las cosas a tu manera. Y hoy te estoy hablando de hacerlas a la manera de Dios.  El Gobierno del Espíritu en el HogarCuando estaba estudiando un poco la historia de Isaac e Ismael, yo decía: "Señor, ¿cómo es posible que estos dos nunca pudieron estar en paz?". Ismael venía de un actuar de la carne, y ese actuar siempre terminó persiguiendo a lo que venía del Espíritu. Cuando en una casa no se le entrega el gobierno a Dios para que el Espíritu de Dios la gobierne, entonces otras cosas comienzan a gobernar: no gobierna el Espíritu de Dios, gobierna tu temperamento; no gobierna el Espíritu de Dios, gobiernan tus ideas o lo que tú quieres.Hoy vengo a decirte que, cuando el Espíritu Santo está en tu vida, lo que va a gobernar no son tus deseos, sino los frutos del Espíritu Santo. Podrás tener amor por tus hijos, habrá gozo y paz en el entorno. Ve, estudia los frutos del Espíritu, y te darás cuenta de lo que es una verdadera familia y una verdadera casa. Porque cuando una familia se construye sin Dios, termina luchando contra lo que viene de Dios.A una familia que no está construida por el Señor no le gusta orar, porque eso viene del Espíritu. No le gusta hacer el devocional, porque eso viene del Espíritu. No le gustan las normas ni hacer lo correcto, porque eso viene del Espíritu. Entonces los hijos quieren entrar a la hora que les da la gana a la casa, porque eso no viene de Él, viene de cómo se está manejando nuestra casa según la carne. "Es que todos los amiguitos en el colegio...", para ahí. "Es que en la universidad se hace...", pero es que nuestra casa no puede estar ...

"Parallel Universe" When I was working in college radio it seemed like Hypnolovewheel was putting out a record every year. And it felt that way because they pretty much were. Although they'd put out two records in the eighties, in the '90s the Long Island outfit released a trilogy of albums in an indie rock whirlwind: there was 1991's Space Mountain, 1992's Angel Food and 1993's Altered States. An EP followed and--well, that was pretty much it. More on that in a second. Over the course of their seven-year career, Hypnolovewheel toured with Kitchens of Distinction and King Missle, opened for fIREHOSE, the Jesus Lizard and the Fleshtones, got played on 120 Minutes and got rave reviews from The New York Times and were featured in Spider-Man comics. The band's compositions were loaded with clever lyrics, sneaky rhythms and hooks galore and each song jangled away with grinding, catchy beauty. Falling somewhere between R.E.M. and Lotion, Hypnolovewheel are one of those bands that may have been overlooked simply because college radio was a crowded and competitive field, but their new compilation Parallel Universe is a perfect sampler of what you might have missed, were you one of the folks who missed these guys the first time around. No muchos días después, juntándolo todo el hijo menor, se fue lejos a una provincia apartada, y allí desperdició sus bienes viviendo perdidamente."La desfachatez de pedir la herenciaEsta historia nos muestra el día a día de una familia: un padre, dos hijos, una finca, mucha abundancia y mucho trabajo. Pero, de un momento a otro, el hijo menor tiene la desfachatez y el atrevimiento de pedirle a su padre su parte de la herencia en vida.Al pedir esto, está comprometiendo incluso la economía de su padre, ya que al dividir la herencia, el anciano tiene que entregar una gran parte de su patrimonio. Pensemos por un momento en el dolor que le causó; el padre pensaba que su hijo estaba feliz trabajando a su lado, y de pronto recibe este golpe de exigirle lo suyo. Esto nos hace entender que, cuando el muchacho regresa, lo que queda en la finca es realmente la parte del hijo mayor. Las implicaciones son muy fuertes, en el fondo es decirle a su padre: "no me importa cómo sobrevivas en tu vejez, yo quiero mi mundo, mi vida, mis derechos, lo mío; no me importas tú". El hijo menor hizo exactamente lo opuesto a este mandato: deshonró a su padre al máximo nivel, tratándolo como si ya no le importara su vida.Al romper ese mandamiento, automáticamente se desconectó de la promesa. Por eso la historia da un giro tan drástico: como no honró a su padre, no le fue bien. Perdió su dinero, perdió su dignidad y terminó en la ruina deseando comer lo que le daban a los cerdos.La iglesia tiene que entender que honrar a los padres y a Dios no es solo un tema de reglas o respeto, sino de protección y bendición para nuestro propio futuro. ¿Cuántas veces hacemos nosotros lo mismo? Nos acercamos exigiendo nuestros derechos, buscando nuestras bendiciones y “nuestra parte”, pero olvidándonos por completo de cuidar nuestra relación con quien nos lo da todo. “Hoy en día la falta de honra a los padres está acabando con la vida de los hijos, llevándolos a brotes de maldición, enfermedad, ruina, dolor, sufrimiento; La Palabra dice en Efesios 6:2-3 “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, que es el primer mandamiento con promesa; para que te vaya bien, y seas de larga vida sobre la tierra.”La seducción de una ciudad lejanaCuando trato de averiguar qué pasó en el corazón de este muchacho, me lo imagino en sus años de juventud, trabajando duro de sol a sol, limpiando establos y recogiendo cultivos. Su padre pensaba que estaba formando a un heredero, pero no sabía que, en el fondo, alguien le había robado el corazón a su hijo.El plan estaba amañado; cuando pidió la herencia, ya sabía a dónde ir: a una ciudad distante, lo más lejos posible de su papá. Él es perfecto, él es luz, él es tu fuente, él es tu defensa, él es tu abogado, él es tu Dios, él es tu padre, tu mejor amigo, él es tu refugio, él es tu casa, él es tu Señor. Y el pródigo nunca entendió que desligarse del Padre, lo perdió todo, porque el que tiene al padre lo tiene todo.Qué triste cuando peleas por cosas, porque quieres que el padre te dé cosas a costa de él, cuántas veces buscas bendiciones sin darte cuenta de que, el que tiene al dador de las bendiciones lo tiene todo. Si tú has probado cualquier cosa buena y edificante, probaste un regalo que sólo viene de Dios. El tener el amor de un padre, de una madre, lo inventó Dios. El poder tener el beso de una amada, lo inventó Dios. El besar a un hijo en la frente, lo regaló Dios. Tu salud la regala Dios, la bendición en los negocios lo regala Dios, el salir en la vida adelante es un regalo de tu Padre celestial. Cuenta tus bendiciones porque detrás de esas bendiciones está tu Padre celestial.La peor tragedia humana no es perder cosas materiales, sino perder nuestra identidad y nuestro propósito al desconectarnos de nuestra única fuente de vida: nuestro Padre celestial. In Part 2, we begin with Todd and me rapping about how much digital technology has changed just in our lifetimes. Even when he was in school in Colorado, San Francisco had been a goal for Todd, a destination. He got his impression of The City from skateboarding magazines and TV shows. But before moving here, Todd went to Europe, as he puts it, "chasing a girl." He even tried living overseas. When that didn't work out, he moved back to Grand Rapids to save money. In 2001, he made the big move west. When Todd arrived, he had a job already lined up for him. He just needed to find a place to live. He'd respond to Craigslist ads for apartments, but when he showed up to look at one of them, a roommate situation, it had turned into a party. He got the place, his first San Francisco apartment, at Waller and Masonic. Todd takes a moment to reminisce about living in that area, which he's continued to do in the many years since he moved to San Francisco. His walk down memory lane leads us to the Lower Haight. Todd met a lot of cool people at that first SF job, a dotcom, naturally. One of those coworkers had a separate office space in the Lower Haight that served as an auxiliary pressing plant for a record-pressing company based in the Czech Republic. That coworker was bailing on their job and handed the space and the gig over to Todd. It put him face-to-face with musicians in need of vinyl to be pressed. He handled album art as well. His worlds of art and music were colliding in meaningful ways. He quit his dotcom job to do this new gig full-time under the name Circuit 73. More on that later. In addition to the record-pressing gig, Todd was doing flyer art for a friend's monthly zine as well as other various flyer work. He also did album artwork. Two friends who were new at the time were looking for a space to open a music gear store. They ended up in the same space in the Lower Haight where Todd based himself. Todd's graphic design work really started to take off around this time, the early 2000s. He'd only been in San Francisco a couple of years, but Todd felt like he was where he needed to be. I ask Todd whether, all those years ago, he had a plan for how long he would try his new city out. He says he didn't, but back then, he felt like he wouldn't be here the rest of his life. And yet, more than 20 years later, here we are. Then we turn to one of Todd's alter egos/pseudonyms/whatever you wanna call its—Ink Letterman. That persona was born when Todd got his first Instagram account, around 2014 or so. He wanted an alias, and landed on that. It took off around 2020, when he started doing mural work in the early days of the pandemic. Rewinding a bit, Todd started DJing under the name Circuit 73 (another alias) around 2005 or so. He eventually took a lot of time off from music, though. His growing collection of physical media started to make him anxious, so he stopped buying records. He also started a family in this time. Eventually, digital music platforms more or less solidified, so that helped. He also started listening to KUSF/90.3 FM. Being in an office, sitting in front of a computer, it all led to burnout as well. His son was born in 2015 and he semi-retired from graphic design to focus on being a parent and leaning in more to his art (and away from design). Todd's art is part of a group show curated by Known SF and 415 Zine that's up now through August 24 at Mini Bar. Eventually, DJing came back into Todd's life. He's quick to give credit to KEXP/92.7 FM for roping him back in. Another source of inspiration is his son, Oscar. He loves music as much as his dad does, and the two listen together quite a lot. Todd points to both the quantity and the quality of new music in the recent past. He's excited about a surge in old music being reissued as well. He's got a monthly gig, last Friday of every month, as DJ Circuit 73 at 540 Bar on Clement. And his radio show, Directions in Stereo, is on KXSF/102.5 FM every Monday from 10 p.m. to midnight. "On 2 U" It's hard to imagine a band working today that captures the grit and the glamor of Los Angeles better than Starcrawler. Formed in 2015 by teenage classmates, the young band tore out of the gates with an aggressive blend of crunchy punk and deliciously sleazy hard rock. Led by singer Arrow De Wilde, Starcrawler are one of those rare out of the box bands that knew who they were early on--which is really just a way of saying they sounded like they were born ready to be rock stars. The band's three long players--Starcrawler, Devour You and She Said--form a winning triptych of driving and doomy rock and roll that's powered by DeWilde's winning vocal bite. The band, which is made up of DeWilde, Cash and his brother Bill, and rounded out by Seth Carolina and Tim Franco, play tight sludgy riffs, whiplash drum fills and prowling baselines that stalk through each number with muscle and nerve. One of the most charismatic, dynamic and adrenalized live acts on the planet, Starcrawler have done a lot in the last decade; they've played South By Southwest, Later With Jools Holland, toured all over the U.S., Europe and Australia, played shows with Garbage and Nick Cave and have just released their new single "On 2 U." As for guitarist Henri Cash, the Southern California native is a busy guy--known for playing a three-string guitar, Cash's riffs are inventive and intuitive and beneath their aggression is an undeniable discipline and craft. Cash has collaborated with the band Plague Vendor and along with Sophia Skye he formed the duo Cash & Skye, who put out a seven-inch on Jack White's Third Man Records. Me convertí al Señor conociendo la gracia como el favor inmerecido de Dios hacia nuestras vidas, y por mucho tiempo pensé que solo esa expresión lograba describir todo lo que significaba.Sin embargo, encuentro que, a lo largo de la historia de la iglesia, encasillar virtudes eternas en definiciones estrictas nos ha dejado cortos en el entendimiento y disfrute de la realidad de Dios. O, como bien dice un amigo: hemos puesto puntos finales en asuntos que realmente llevan una coma."Gracia" es una de las palabras más frecuentes en la Biblia; aun así, en las Escrituras no aparece una definición exacta acerca de ella. Lo que sí podemos ver claramente es su impresionante obrar de amor y el testimonio de hombres que vivieron llenos de esta virtud.La multiforme gracia de DiosPero lo peor que podríamos hacer es quedarnos en la orilla. Ante un mar inmenso como lo es la gracia, necesitamos urgentemente una experiencia más profunda con todo su contenido: con sus diversas expresiones, con su realidad, con su obra de justificación, con su poder transformador y con el privilegio de estar sentados en una mesa donde podemos comer de Cristo permanentemente.La gracia es como un diamante; si lo miras por encima, ves una sola gran pieza; pero si lo observas con detalle, podrás ver que está conformado por muchos lados. Esta es una maravillosa alegoría de lo que podemos encontrar en la Escritura:1 Pedro 4:10 (RVR1960): "Cada uno según el don que ha recibido, minístrelo a los otros, como buenos administradores de la multiforme gracia de Dios."En su sentido más puro, la palabra multiforme significa: abundante, mucho, variado, grande, de múltiples tipos.Las expresiones de la graciaMiremos por un momento algunas descripciones que la Biblia nos muestra acerca de la gracia:Salvados por gracia: Efesios 2:4-5 (RVR1960): "Pero Dios, que es rico en misericordia, por su gran amor con que nos amó, aun estando nosotros muertos en pecados, nos dio vida juntamente con Cristo (por gracia sois salvos)”.Justificados por gracia: Romanos 3:23-24 (RVR1960): "por cuanto todos pecaron, y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios, siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia, mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús”.Perfeccionados por su gracia: 1 Pedro 5:10 (RVR1960): "Mas el Dios de toda gracia, que nos llamó a su gloria eterna en Jesucristo, después que hayáis padecido un poco de tiempo, él mismo os perfeccione, afirme, fortalezca y establezca.”Gracia suficiente: 2 Corintios 12:9 (RVR1960): "Y me ha dicho: Bástate mi gracia; porque mi poder se perfecciona en la debilidad. Por tanto, de buena gana me gloriaré más bien en mis debilidades, para que repose sobre mí el poder de Cristo.”Fortalecidos por la gracia: 2 Timoteo 2:1 (RVR1960): "Tú, pues, hijo mío, esfuérzate en la gracia que es en Cristo Jesús."Más que una puerta a la eternidadLa gracia de Dios no simplemente nos abrió la puerta a la vida eterna, también nos hizo contenedores de plenitud. Nos colocó en Cristo, el lugar donde el pecado está muerto para nosotros, y nosotros para él. Nos sostiene y nos sustenta, se vuelve nuestra fortaleza y libertad, y hasta el último día de nuestras vidas, trabaja en lo profundo de nuestros corazones conformándonos a la gloriosa imagen del Hijo de Dios.Todo en la vida del espíritu es gracia. No hay llamado, avance, fruto, revelación o servicio que no sea para la alabanza de la gracia divina que opera en el corazón de los hijos de Dios.El estándar de la ley presentaba al corazón del hombre una posición inalcanzable, que dejaba en evidencia su incapacidad de salvarse a sí mismo de su naturaleza pecaminosa. Pero la gracia se entregó en una cruz, el lugar donde el corazón del Padre quedó satisfecho eternamente; y, por medio de ella, podemos vivir todo lo que es Cristo en nosotros.Cristo: La gracia en nosotrosSi dejas de contemplar por un momento la gracia de Dios, solo verás las ruinas, miserias e incapacidades de un corazón endurecido que intenta producir buenos frutos para Dios por sus propias fuerzas. Pero qué asombroso e inexplicable es el amor de Cristo, quien es la gracia misma en nosotros; el único que cumple todo lo que el Padre espera.Cristo habita en nosotros y conquista todo nuestro interior. Se convierte en el fruto, la medida y la expresión de la verdadera adoración; esa obediencia que el Padre cosecha de su iglesia. La gracia salva, transforma, restaura, sostiene, corrige, enseña, bendice y abre puertas. Es una llave que cambia todo a tu favor; la gracia es una protección constante.Los enemigos de la graciaTodo lo que digamos de la gracia realmente se quedaría corto. Sin embargo, hay actitudes, mentalidades y conductas que muchas veces llegan a atropellarla o a convertirse en sus enemigas.Cuando hablo sobre los enemigos de la gracia, me refiero a todo aquello que endurece el corazón, daña lo que hemos recibido, apaga la sensibilidad espiritual, reemplaza la dependencia de Dios o convierte lo santo en algo común, destruyendo así lo que Dios ha depositado en nosotros.El orgulloEl primer enemigo de la gracia es el orgullo. Nace de un corazón que, aunque recibe, no se deja transformar. Muchas veces el problema no radica en lo que Dios nos da, sino en nuestra falta de transformación personal a pesar de haberlo recibido.Santiago 4:6 (RVR1960): "Pero él da mayor gracia. Por esto dice: Dios resiste a los soberbios, y da gracia a los humildes."La actitud de tu corazón determina si el nivel de gracia en tu vida aumenta. Si recibes gracia pero hay orgullo en tu interior, esa gracia se estanca en ese nivel. En cambio, si respondes con humildad, Dios derrama aún más, porque sabe que esa abundancia no te hará daño ni se convertirá en un estorbo.La soberbia aparta al hombre de Dios. Aunque todos hemos recibido gracia, no todos tienen el mismo nivel de ella, porque en la gracia se crece de acuerdo a la medida de nuestra humildad.Mira al rey Saúl, comenzó dependiendo de Dios, pero al recibirlo todo, respondió con orgullo, creyendo que sus logros eran mérito propio. El orgullo te desvincula de la gracia porque te hace creer que ganas las cosas por tu propio esfuerzo o por los "precios" que has pagado. Ningún precio que tú pagues se puede comparar con el que pagó Cristo; todo lo que logras es puramente por la gracia de Dios.El orgullo te hace pensar que no tienes necesidad de nada, mientras que la gracia siempre te llevará a depender completamente del Señor. No se trata solo de las victorias que vives, sino de cómo responde tu corazón a la gloria que experimentas. A veces el fluir de Dios se detiene porque en lugar de humildad nace la soberbia, y el corazón no está listo para manejar lo que se ha derramado.El legalismoEl segundo enemigo es el legalismo, el cual intenta merecer por esfuerzo propio lo que solo se puede recibir por gracia.Lucas 18:9-14 (RVR1960) nos muestra un claro ejemplo: "A unos que confiaban en sí mismos como justos, y menospreciaban a los otros, dijo también esta parábola: Dos hombres subieron al templ...

Romanos 12:2 (RVR1960) "No os conforméis a este siglo, sino transformaos por medio de la renovación de vuestro entendimiento, para que comprobéis cuál sea la buena voluntad de Dios, agradable y perfecta."Una de las mayores frustraciones que vivimos como creyentes es enfrentarnos a la dura realidad de que pasan los años, pero en el fondo, seguimos siendo los mismos. Hay quienes llevan años escuchando la Palabra, viviendo en la iglesia, llorando en el altar y profesando una fe, pero su realidad no cambia. No logran salir del pecado, del bache, del conflicto emocional, de la herida profunda o de la situación que los atormenta.Existen personas desgastadas de pelear la misma batalla una y otra vez, atrapadas en un círculo de destrucción. Pasan los años y sientes que no avanzas, que estás anclado en el mismo lugar. A esto solemos llamarlo estancamiento, pero en realidad, es la falta de transformación lo que te impide ir más allá.Es doloroso mirar atrás y reconocer: "Sigo siendo el mismo". El mismo airoso, el mismo criticón, el mismo peleonero. Si eres sincero contigo mismo, te das cuenta de que aprendes mucho, pero cambias poco. Mantienes los mismos problemas matrimoniales, las mismas crisis emocionales y la misma falta de paz al dormir. Te han dicho incontables veces que el Evangelio es transformación, pero no ves ese fruto en tu vida.A veces vivimos en una encrucijada. Recibimos profecías que aseguran que "todo está bien", pero la realidad nos grita lo contrario. Venimos a la iglesia, recibimos una inyección del Espíritu, y todo parece perfecto mientras dura el culto. Sin embargo, apenas te subes al carro, estalla una pelea por cualquier insignificancia: por qué te demoraste, qué hacías en el teléfono, o quién te estaba mirando. El ambiente se calienta, terminas discutiendo y te preguntas: "Si acabo de salir de tu gloria, si acabo de salir de tu casa, ¿por qué sigo igual?".En la iglesia cantamos y gritamos con alegría extrema, pero al llegar a casa te topas de frente con tu realidad. Necesitas medicarte para dormir, la depresión te persigue, el dolor físico o emocional es constante, y el sufrimiento no cede. Y entonces te cuestionas: "Estoy en el lugar correcto, en la atmósfera correcta, le he entregado mi vida a Dios... ¿Por qué no hay un cambio visible?".Si te has hecho esta pregunta, es momento de llegar a un punto de quiebre y declarar: "Lo que no he logrado en tantos años, necesito que suceda ya".Romanos 12:2 (RVR1960) "No os conforméis a este siglo, sino transformaos por medio de la renovación de vuestro entendimiento, para que comprobéis cuál sea la buena voluntad de Dios, agradable y perfecta."La palabra transformación implica un cambio absoluto. "Trans" significa ir más allá de la forma. Quizás te molesta que te digan que te pareces a tu papá o a tu mamá. Tal vez rechazas ese parentesco físico porque, en el fondo, sabes que también heredaste su forma de ser: tu papá gritaba, tú gritas; tu papá se enojaba, tú te enojas; tu papá tenía adicciones, y tú sigues atado a las tuyas.Cuando te enfrentas a esa realidad, te das cuenta de que esa forma no te agrada. Sabes de dónde viene, pero la pregunta es: ¿cómo salir de ahí? Por eso la Biblia exige transformarnos. Es dejar atrás la herencia negativa y empezar a parecernos al Señor.Cinco llaves harán que tu vida cambie, cinco razones por las cuales no has logrado cambiar:1. Tienes que morirJuan 12:24-25 (RVR1960) "De cierto, de cierto os digo, que si el grano de trigo no cae en la tierra y muere, queda solo; pero si muere, lleva mucho fruto. El que ama su vida, la perderá; y el que aborrece su vida en este mundo, para vida eterna la guardará."¿Sabes por qué no cambias? Porque no hay cambio sin muerte. Asumir esta transformación es una responsabilidad ineludible, especialmente porque hay una generación detrás de nosotros que necesita ver ese cambio. Quienes somos padres sabemos el daño irreparable que causamos cuando vivimos sin ser transformados.Nuestra naturaleza humana busca alivio, bendición y prosperidad. Sin embargo, el Espíritu de Dios exige que mueras a ciertas cosas; que renuncies a aquello que deforma tu vida. Queremos el cambio, pero nos negamos a morir a nuestro deseo de tener siempre la razón. Cuando discutes, te cuesta terminar el conflicto y admitir: "Tienes razón, perdóname, me equivoqué". Al contrario, buscas el problema porque esa genética del hogar en el que creciste —donde todos gritaban a la vez y los conflictos eran interminables— aún vive en ti.Hay áreas en tu vida a las que no les has dado muerte: a tu carácter explosivo, a tu lengua destructiva, al enojo que se apodera de ti por cualquier motivo. Para vivir una vida nueva, lo viejo tiene que morir.2. Dios quiere tratarte2 Reyes 5:10 (RVR1960) "Entonces Eliseo le envió un mensajero, diciendo: Ve y lávate siete veces en el Jordán, y tu carne se te restaurará, y serás limpio."La historia de Naamán nos muestra a un hombre leproso y necesitado que llegó ante el profeta Eliseo buscando sanidad. La instrucción fue simple: sumérgete siete veces en el río Jordán. ¿Su reacción? Empezó a quejarse. Tenía la lepra, tenía la necesidad, pero rechazó el tratamiento.¿Por qué solemos rechazar el trato de Dios? Porque a nuestra naturaleza no le gusta la humillación. Para Naamán, meterse al río representaba descender, y a todos nos encanta ir de gloria en gloria, pero ignoramos que la verdadera sanidad comienza por descender.2 Reyes 5:11 (RVR1960) "Y Naamán se fue enojado, diciendo: He aquí yo decía para mí: Saldrá él luego, y estando en pie invocará el nombre de Jehová su Dios, y alzará su mano y tocará el lugar, y sanará la lepra."Naamán esperaba ser sanado de pie, con honores, pero el profeta lo mandó a humillarse. ¿Cuántas veces intentamos imponerle a Dios nuestro propio tratamiento? Decimos: "Esa persona tiene que venir a pedirme perdón", pero olvidamos a todos los que nosotros ofendimos y nunca buscamos para disculparnos. A nadie le gusta bajar la cabeza y decir "me equivoqué". Nos encanta escuchar que nos den la razón, pero el orgullo nos impide darla.3. Así soy yo y queJuan 5:5-6 (RVR1960) "Y había allí un hombre que hacía treinta y ocho años que estaba enfermo. Cuando Jesús lo vio acostado, y supo que llevaba ya mucho tiempo así, le dijo: ¿Quieres ser sano?"Este paralítico llevaba 38 años en la misma condición, y su postura reflejaba que ya se había acostumbrado a su enfermedad.¿Cuántos años llevas hablando mal, alterándote y destruyendo con tus palabras? ¿Hasta cuándo justificarás tus errores diciendo "así soy yo", mientras exiges que toda tu familia cambie? Te acostumbraste tanto a tus defectos que crees que esa es tu identidad definitiva. Eres tú, sí, pero eres la versión que necesita desesperadamente ser transformada.La meta de un creyente es cambiar todos los días. Al mirar tu pasado, no deberías reconocer a la persona que fuiste. Pero si vives culpando a tu trabajo, a tu jefe, a tu ciudad o a tus padres, jamás avanzarás. David y José crecieron en familias llenas de conflictos, caos y rechazo, pero nunca usaron eso como excusa ni maldijeron a los suyos. ¿Hasta cuándo culparás a tus padres? Ellos te dieron lo que sabían y lo que tenían.En lugar de enojarte con el sistema, con tu jefe o con el mundo entero, enójate contigo mismo. "Beach Bongo Bloodbath" Bob Bert's Beach Bongo Bloodbath might be the most alliterative album title of the year, but it also happens to also be one of the year's very best. Before we get to Beach Bongo Bloodbath, let me give you a little Bob Bert Backstory. The alliteration with Bob is seemingly unavoidable. Influenced by the Beatles, the Stones, Andy Warhol and the band's that packed CBGB's, the New Jersey-born Bob Bert started drumming as a kid, but put it down for a while and became a fine art silkscreen printer who, speaking of Mr. Warhol, had a job printing paintings and print editions for the legendary artist. Bert moved from New York City to Hoboken in '81 and perhaps it was the close proximity of the club Maxwell's or the characters that played there that Bert picked up the sticks again and found himself playing drums for Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, and the Chrome Cranks. Bob's autobiography I'm Just The Drummer tells his story far better than I can, but good luck finding it--it's out of print, so you're stuck with me for the time being to fill in the gaps. Over the course of his career, Bert has recorded and toured with Bewitched, Action Swingers, Chrome Cranks, Knoxville Girls, Five Dollar Priest, Lydia Lunch Retrovirus and Jon Spencer & the HITmakers and in the early 90s he and Linda Wolfe started the awesome fanzine BB gun. Which brings just to Beach Bongo Bloodbath. A joyful sprint of a record that clocks in at under a half hour and has no guitars or bass, Beach Bongo Bloodbath is smoldering collection of covers and originals that's filled with swagger, groove and delicious percussive stomp. "Highway To Heavenly" The Oxford indie-pop outfit Heavenly formed out of the ashes of another Oxford outfit, the beloved indiepop band Talulah Gosh. With the addition of singer/keyboardist Cathy Rogers, by the time the band's second album Le Jardin De Heavenly hit shelves, their low-fi jangle became augmented by lush and spellbinding harmonies. Throughout the '90s put out a handful of winning albums including Heavenly vs. Satan and The Decline And Fall of Heavenly but they called it a day in 1996 after the death of their drummer Matthew Fletcher. The core unit of Heavenly resumed under the moniker Marine Research and they put out one lone marvelous album and that was that for a while. Did the members of Heavenly stay busy in the interim? That would be a resounding yes but let's also add accomplished. These are the broadstrokes, but you'll get the idea: Singer Amelia Fletcher, who, by the way, has been in The Wedding Present and the Pooh Sticks and guested on tracks by the Candyskins and the 6ths, is a Professor of Competition Policy at the University of East Anglia and in addition to being a Non-Executive Director on the boards of the Financial Conduct Authority, Fletcher was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire and Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to the economy. As for bassist Rob Pursey, who, by the way, is married to Fletcher, he's a screenwriter and he ran the Touchpaper TV production company. He now co-runs the awesome indie label Skep Wax with Fletcher. An educational neuroscientist, Cathy Rogers was the presenter of the British reality competition series Scrapheap Challenge (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapheap_Challenge) and Junkyard Wars, and she has worked as a producer for the BBC, ran an olive farm in Italy and worked as Creative Director for RDF Media. Meanwhile, guitarist Peter Monchiloff played in the Would Be Goods, Scarlet's Well (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet%27s_Well), Les Clochards, and Hot Hooves and he was Commissioning Editor for Philosophy at Oxford University Press and is currently Associate Publication Consultant at Lex Academic. As for drummer Ian Button, the former member of The Thrashing Doves has been a university lecturer in music production, he worked with everyone from Robert Forster to Dot Allison, was a member of Death In Vegas and is an in-demand mixer and masterer. Again, this is an abbreviated list, but you can see the members of Heavenly have been busy. But somehow, between all that busy-ness and other bands like Tender Trap and Swansea Sound, Heavenly are back. Not sounding diminished by time, the band's first long player in 30 years Highway to Heavenly is a spry collection of janglepop that's effortlessly melodic and unreasonably catchy. "Maybe It's Just Me" The indie rock outfit Lost Leaders were formed in 2011 by pals Byron Isaacs and Peter Cole. Isaacs' resume was already pretty full at the time, thanks to his work as the bassist for the Lumineers and playing with the Levon Helm Band and Ollabelle. If that doesn't sound busy enough, Isaacs has also recorded and performed with Bruce Springsteen, Roseanne Cash, Jackson Browne, Amy Helm, and Joan Baez. As for singer/guitarist Cole, his CV was pretty full as well, thanks to his tenure in Lava Baby, long-serving the New York jazz scene and working as a professional audio engineer. Cole and Isaacs have been pals since the late '90s, playing in bands like Slink and Lowdowners in Stereom, but Lost Leaders is where the two musicians really hit their artistic stride. With a handful of winning albums under their belts like Hungry Ghosts, Promises Promises and their self-titled debut album, Lost Leaders' work is redolent with harmonic dexterity, melodic muscle and rootsy bliss. Their latest effort is producing the full soundtrack and composing the original score for the indie film RUN, which stars Sarah Levy, Adam Palley and Chris Redd. "Garage Glamour" It's hard to think of a more dynamic and exciting band as the Claudettes. The Chicago-based rock/blues/pop outfit have been at it since 2010 and with six albums under their belts, including their riveting new one Garage Glamour, The Claudettes have established themselves as one of the most singular outfits on the planet. From Dance Scandal In The Gymnasium to High Times In The Dark, The Claudettes' music is informed as much by Junior Wells as it is The Minutemen. Are they a piano punk band? Sure. Are they a punk piano blues band? Yes. They're all of that. The band's new album Garage Glamour, which features the soulful Rachel Williams, is exhilarating, and life-affirming. It's a sweaty sonic reminder that when the world is falling apart, like it is now, it's music that keeps alive. As for Mr. Iguana, that's the nom de plume of one Brian Berkowitz, the New Jersey-born, Chicago-based braintrust of The Claudettes. Iguana has played with Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Eddie Shaw, Carey Bell and Oh My God, which is the band where our paths first crossed.
