This week, This Must Be the Gig is joined by Johnny Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls. Since emerging as one of the most exciting voices of the '90s with hits like "Slide" and "Iris", the Goo Goo Dolls have continued to incessantly tour the world, contribute to massive soundtracks, and release new albums that slot in perfectly with fan favorites. Johnny and bassist Robby Takac have now released twelve LPs, including last year's Miracle Pill. As a taste of that record, we're thrilled to share their latest single, "Fearless", in this episode. Plus, if you want more Goo Goo Dolls, you'll be able to catch their "Live From Home" performances this month while the band's unable to tour. Head here for more info on Goo Goo Dolls. From the isolation of our homes, AirGo is presenting a series called On the Line, which focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic and the people putting their bodies on the line to help us all survive and heal. Since early April, we've been hopping on the line with front line workers in different spheres to talk about what their work looks like right now, and what we can do to help as we isolate our physical bodies at home. This episode's guest is Tempestt Hazel. Tempestt is the Arts Portfolio Program Officer at the Field Foundation, and the founder of art curatorial platform 60 Inches from Center. She talks about the shifts that COVID is demanding from philanthropy, how the sector is responding, how she's slowing down to take care of her people, and much more. Plus, she makes Daniel cry at the end, so stick around for that. NOTE: Tempestt mentions a few great orgs here in Chicago that you might want to learn more about through their past AirGo episodes. Our guests on this episode of Queering Left are activists Page May and Debbie Southorn. Our focus with them will be their work and organizing with young people, particularly #NoCopAcademy. The No Cop Academy campaign is a youth led effort supported by community organizations across Chicago that want to see $95 million invested in communities rather than in a new police training academy on the West Side. Page May is an activist, organizer and co-founder of Assata's Daughters, which creates a space where Black youth can learn political education from Black women and gender non-conforming people. Debbie Southorn works for the American Friends Service Committee and is a founding member of We Are Dissenters, a new group activating students towards anti-militarism and anti-war organizing on college campuses. Page and Debbie talk about the limitations of representation, how identity is co-opted and commercialized, and the relationship of prison abolition and queer politics.
Tom has literally written the book on corruption in Cook County. Page is an activist in the Black Lives Matter movement and founder of Assata's Daughters.

Please join me Sunday as I present the entire FFRF talk on my journey in the secular, social justice, and religious communities. Just a few observations, a few warnings, and the final release. I'm completing another metamorphosis and it's time to shift again. Build and grow. Thank you for the support, well wishes, hate, indifference, and much more. It's shown me quite a bit about the state of the human condition. Most importantly, it helped me to realize who I am, challenge myself, evolve, grow intellectually, and find comfort in who I am and what I'm looking to achieve. Thank you! I donated my honorarium to he following 3 organizations: Black Youth Project is working with young adults across the country. If you're under 35, you may want to consider reaching out to this org. They are doing great work and need our support. Assata's Daughters is a mentorship program designed for young women of color. This organization is transforming lives, doing phenomenal, and is a beacon of light. #CPACNOW (NAARPR) is an organization that has been fighting for everyone. This organization was formed in 1973 and a rich history and phenomenal track record. Safe Haven Center is a project I 100% support. Please support their fundraising efforts as well.
On today’s show we will be discussing what the Las Vegas shooting was really all about. Although tragic, is this now being used as a smoke screen for a reason to bring the topic of control back to the forefront? What is the NRA’s stance on this. We will also be discussing 10 pro-gun myths you probably haven’t heard about. As well as alleges political views of the killer. The on-going saga continues with Colin Kaepernick and the NFL; Now Conservatives are upset because he has donated $25,000 to Assata;s Daughter; Assata's Daughters is a grassroots intergenerational collective of radical Black women located in the city of Chicago. Who identify their work as part of the larger Black Lives Matter movement. Who states; “Our programs aim to escalate, deepen, and sustain this movement for collective liberation”. Could this be the reasonno NFL team has signed him? The United Nations approved a resolution condemning using the death penalty on certain individuals. Apostasy, Blasphemy, Adultery, and consensual same-sex relations. As a result the United States and 13 other countries rejected the resolution. 27 countries supported the resolution; now the resolution does not call for the end of the death penalty, just simply condemn its usage in a discriminatory fashion. So why would the US and the other 13 countries reject it? The Supreme Court is looking at a case that will have national repercussions. The case deals with political gerrymandering; a decision is needed on a Wisconsin case where voting redistricting favors one party over another. This has been a process that bordered on voter suppression. Gerrymandering is the manipulation of boundaries of (an electoral constituency) so as to favor one party or class.to achieve (a result) by manipulating the boundaries of an electoral constituency.

Page May is one of the city's strongest voices in the fight for Black liberation. She is a cofounder of Assata's Daughters, and has been leading in different ways across the city, from the podium to the classroom to the streets.
