In this educational session, Adam from National Comfort Institute (NCI) delivers a comprehensive deep dive into Fan Law 2 and its practical applications for residential HVAC systems at the 6th Annual HVACR Training Symposium.  Adam begins by establishing the fundamental concepts of CFM (cubic feet per minute) and static pressure, explaining how these measurements relate to system performance. He shares a humbling personal story about learning to measure gas pressure from a homeowner, emphasizing that even experienced technicians can benefit from understanding basic measurement principles. The presentation focuses heavily on Fan Law 2, which allows technicians to predict how changes in airflow will affect static pressure in a non-proportional relationship - a critical concept for equipment sizing and replacement decisions. The core of the presentation revolves around practical applications of Fan Law 2 in real-world scenarios. Adam demonstrates how to calculate pressure drops across filters, evaporator coils, and entire duct systems when airflow changes occur. He emphasizes that static pressure increases exponentially when airflow increases, which explains why oversized systems often perform poorly. Through detailed examples using actual field measurements, he shows how a 16% increase in airflow can result in a 33% increase in static pressure, highlighting the importance of proper system sizing. Perhaps most importantly, Adam presents a systematic approach to equipment selection that goes beyond simply matching tonnage. He demonstrates how contractors can "back into" total external static pressure calculations by carefully selecting low-pressure-drop components like evaporator coils and filters. This methodology allows technicians to predict system performance before installation, preventing the common scenario where new equipment sounds "like a rocket ship" due to excessive static pressure. The presentation concludes with a compelling comparison showing how proper component selection can reduce system static pressure from over 1.0 inches to 0.64 inches while maintaining the same capacity and airflow. Topics Covered Static Pressure Fundamentals Definition and measurement using manometers Inches of water column explained Relationship between static pressure and system performance Fan Law 2 Mathematics Breaking down the intimidating formula into simple terms Step-by-step calculation examples Common mistakes when squaring numbers in calculations Practical Applications Filter pressure drop calculations at different airflows Evaporator coil pressure drop analysis Total External Static Pressure (TESP) predictions Duct system pressure calculations Equipment Selection Strategy How to select evaporator coils based on pressure drop ratings Filter sizing for optimal pressure drop Using manufacturer data sheets effectively AHRI matchup considerations beyond just capacity Real-World Problem Solving Preventing "rocket ship" installations Retrofitting existing systems with proper calculations Downsizing benefits for static pressure reduction System commissioning and performance verification Professional Development Moving beyond equipment replacement guesswork Using measurement tools like True Flow Grid Understanding manufacturer specifications Elevating installation quality through proper system design   Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? The Choluteca Bridge stands as a testament to how things can change. Originally built in 1935 and completely rebuilt in 1996 - the Choluteca Bridge no longer spans the Choluteca River. Why is that? Because in 1998, Hurricane Mitch dumped 75 INCHES of rain - and all that water CHANGED the course of the river. The American church faces a similar situation. All our programming and efforts from the 1950s to the 1990s was designed for a river that has MOVED (and that river is American culture). The good news? Jesus is already at work. In fact, he never stopped working in the lives of Americans to redeem and restore humanity - one human being at a time. Are you ready to join Jesus on his mission?

Whether you're grinding up a 5% incline or crawling up a brutal 15%, choosing the right gear ratio is key to maintaining an efficient cadence—ideally around 80 RPM. Here's a breakdown of ideal gear inches and recommended chainring/cassette combinations for gradients from 5% to 15%. Gear Inches Table | BikeCalc   Takeaway Tips: Lower gear inches help maintain cadence on steeper grades. A compact crankset (e.g., 34/50T) paired with a wide-range cassette (up to 31T or 32T) gives you the flexibility to tackle tough climbs. For gradients above 12%, consider a granny gear setup or even a 1x drivetrain with a wide-range cassette.   Get Gritty Tip: The Four Agreements Get Gritty Tip: Master Your Mindset with The Four Agreements This week, let's talk about The Four Agreements—a powerful framework for living with intention, resilience, and clarity. These four simple principles can help us break free from limiting beliefs and live with more purpose in both triathlon and life. 1. Be Impeccable with Your Word. Your words create your reality. In triathlon, this means speaking positively to yourself and others. When you talk about your abilities, your goals, and your progress, choose words that empower and uplift. If you say, “I can do this,” you're setting yourself up for success. But if you tell yourself “I'll never get faster” or “This is too hard,” you're building mental barriers. Choose words that propel you forward. 2. Don't Take Anything Personally. People's opinions and reactions are a reflection of them, not you. In triathlon, you'll face challenges, setbacks, and criticism, whether it's a tough race, a hard workout, or someone questioning your pace. But remember: It's not about you. Their words and actions are influenced by their own journey. Instead of letting it derail you, stay focused on your own path, goals, and growth. 3. Don't Make Assumptions. We often create stories in our minds about what others think of us or what we think is happening in a race or workout. But assumptions only hold us back. Instead, ask questions, seek clarity, and stay open-minded. Don't assume you know the outcome of a race or a workout before you even begin. Focus on the process, not the assumptions. 4. Always Do Your Best. This one's simple but powerful: give everything you have in each moment. Whether it's an interval, a long ride, or an intense swim, always give your best effort. And remember, your best changes from day to day. Some days you'll have more energy, and some days will feel like a struggle. But as long as you show up and give your best, you are making progress.     Action Item: Apply The Four Agreements to your training this week. Focus on the words you use, let go of external opinions, stay clear of assumptions, and always do your best. This simple mindset shift will help you approach both your triathlon journey and life with more clarity, resilience, and grit.   TriDot Workout of the Week: Functional Threshold Power   Today's workout is a Functional Threshold Test (20-minute) Session Note Conducting time trial (TT): Goal is to hold pace you can sustain for the entire TT without blowing up early or having enough left to kick at the end.   10 min @ Z2 with 3 x 30 sec (30 sec) Spinups and 3 x 1 min (1 min) @ Z4   20 min - all out maximal effort   Be sure to enter/confirm your assessment results to update your training intensities and race projections.     Fun Segment: Triple Bypass Trivia! It's time to shift gears and test your mountain mettle with the Triple Bypass Trivia Showdown! Whether you've tackled this legendary Colorado ride or it's still on your bucket list, these questions will challenge your knowledge of one of the most iconic endurance events in the U.S. Grab your water bottle, clip in, and let's find out if you're a seasoned alpine expert—or just coasting! When did the first Triple Bypass ride take place? A) 1978 B) 1988 C) 1998 Answer: B) 1988 — One July day in 1988, a group of avid cyclists decided that it would be fun and challenging to ride from Evergreen to the Vail Valley, Colorado. And so it was. SPOILER FREE 0:00 - 24:12 SPOILERS 24:12 - 1:12:50   In this episode of Horror Hour with the Hanna's, we embark on the quarantined islands and plunge back into the post-apocalyptic world with 28 Years Later (2025), the highly anticipated sequel from Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. Set 28 years after the Rage virus outbreak, this film reinvents the franchise with a tight narrative, sharp themes, and a hauntingly immersive atmosphere. We unpack the evolution of the infected. We explore Jodie Comer's emotionally charged performance as Isla and how mother–son dynamics ground the story's emotional core. We also dig into the film's political undertones including, Brexit symbolism, Covid pandemic responses, gender roles, and the horror of war. With innovative iPhone-enhanced cinematography and a narrative that blends brutal action with thoughtful allegory, 28 Years Later sets the table for a new trilogy, kicking off with this sequel and promising next entries like The Bone Temple (2026). Is this revival a bold reinvention or a fragmented homage? Tune in as we assess its impact on the genre, its emotional resonance, and whether it out grows the legacy of the original.   Follow Us on Instagram and TikTok: @horrorhourwiththehannas   Music by Aries Beats - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPpnxLYrzVA
