Original broadcast date May 9, 2019. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2019/05/binary-system-podcast-176-wtnv-147-the-protester/ We now know why the internet was kind of going crazy after the latest Night Vale episode dropped. It wasn't just the very on-the-nose metaphor for what veterans go through when coming back from active duty, or the blistering take on the military industrial complex, and how leaders can only convince the population that they're "winning" the war if the war never stops. No, this episode is particularly dark because Night Vale's Blood Space War involves time travel, and now some very important people are being wiped from existence. After the recap we talked about some of the Hugo Awards nominees like Paper Girls, Saga, and Monstress. And we also talked about Avengers: Endgame. Because of course we did. (Minor spoiler about Spider-Man being in Endgame.)(But you probably already knew that). This week's outro music is a clip from The Robots Have Spoken by TeknoAXE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-epXefxZYIE&list=LLTLISidXZNOcw-O8EN9m4EA&index=2&t=0s
Original broadcast date May 23, 2019. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2019/05/binary-system-podcast-178-wtnv-148-the-broadcaster/ The latest episode of Welcome to Night Vale features the triumphant return of radio host Leonard Burton, all on his lonesome in the radio booth. And the town. And possibly the universe. Get yourself something comforting to drink - and possibly a night light - because the side-effects from the Blood Space War are really, really bad. Needing a distraction after that, the twins share a theory they found about how the switch from a character-driven to a plot-driven story may have made this last season of Game of Thrones a completely different creature from the previous seven seasons. This led to a discussion of another character-driven story (Adam Warren's "Empowered" series), and a quick review of some artists who's styles have evolved over the years, some successfully, others...less so. This week's outro music is a clip from Subspace by RAQIA. I highly recommend buying the song on Bandcamp; it's just as lovely as the one featured on the WTNV episode, but it also has an added violin track! https://raqia.bandcamp.com/track/subspace The (spoiler-free) Twitter thread that gives a point-by-point argument for why the final season of Game of Thrones is making people angry starts here. https://twitter.com/DSilvermint/status/1125856091261136896
Original broadcast date April 11, 2019. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2019/04/binary-system-podcast-172-welcome-to-night-vale-145-the-veterans/ We learn a little more about an ongoing conflict rocketing across time and space in this week's episode, as Night Vale welcomes home several returning soldiers from the Blood Space War. Among other things, we find out that the attackers are the Polonians from star system Lakaia 9352, our allies are Beings of Astonishing Structure from Battle Station Wolfgang, and John Peters (you know, the farmer) and his brother Jim had a father who was awesome. Fair warning, the creators of Night Vale drew some parallels in this episode with our own country's treatment of veterans and it's NOT SUBTLE. It's also not wrong. In order to lighten things up after the recap we switched over to (deep breath): the Hugo Nominees https://pixelatedgeek.com/2019/04/2019-hugo-awards-the-finalists/#more-151731 (Catherynne Valente and Lindsay Ellis, yay!), an idea for a work of team fiction, the movie Annihilation, the Zero Punctuation video game reviews, photo galleries from Wondercon, and catching a cold at Wondercon. Cough. This week's outro music is a clip from Transition by Six Umbrellas http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Six_Umbrellas/Private_Ark/02_Six_Umbrellas_-_Transition?fbclid=IwAR2wbLNeF3K2RN-_xvy0duFOYtAEKBIMrz3dKMvWfX1moOpBa-i4odIWafY The first part of Lindsay Ellis's Hobbit duology (in three parts) can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTRUQ-RKfUs&t=471s
Original broadcast date March 21, 2019. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2019/03/binary-system-podcast-169-welcome-to-night-vale-144-the-dreamer/ Hey, you know those specialty brownie pans? The ones that have a funky shape so every single brownie is an "edge" brownie? Does anyone out there like those? Because honestly, we've always liked the center brownies better. What? Oh, right, the Night Vale episode. This one was, as usual, entertainingly odd: Pamela Winchell continuing to defy physics, mandatory PTA bake sales, and volunteers(?) of the Blood Space War doing that whole timey-wimey thing with cause and effect. Elizabeth's also got some recommendations for excellent TV shows, and Kathryn's cosplay order STILL HASN'T ARRIVED. (Yeah, we know that international shipping takes a while. BUT TWO MONTHS?) (Apologies for the siren interruption. We could have just cut that out, but we're not gonna.) This week's outro music is a clip from Reprogrammed Reality by TeknoAXE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFwpB2UILZI&list=LLTLISidXZNOcw-O8EN9m4EA&index=9&t=0s
Original broadcast date December 3, 2015. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2015/12/binary-system-podcast-18-wtnv-episode-79-lost-in-the-mail/ This week the twins help celebrate Remembrance Day in Night Vale, which involves the usual parades, speeches, Emissaries from the Blood Space War, and fidelipac cartridges. Also there's some Walking Dead, Doctor Who, and Star Wars in there. We mean in the podcast, not in Night Vale. Ooo, a Night Vale/Star Wars crossover. Get on that, fanartists! Welcome To Night Vale's main website is here. https://www.welcometonightvale.com/ The Doctor Who/Night Vale crossover fan art Kathryn mentioned is by cecilost, you can see it here:http://cecilost.tumblr.com/post/71770932856/tardismartis-from-the-dawn-of-times-till-the?soc_src=mail&soc_trk=ma
Meg, Symphony and Hal discuss episode 79 of Welcome to Night Vale: Lost In The Mail. They discuss the metaphor or The Blood Space War, their feelings about parades and, unfortunately, the conversation surrounding colon hydro therapy is revisited. They are joined by the voice of Basimah, Aliee chan, for a conversation about how time changes everything, what recording was like for this episode and how hard it is to be sixteen. Plus we hear from a fan about the importance of queer muslim representation in this episode. Leave us a voicemail at 929-277-2050 or e-mail us at info@goodmorningnightvale.com.
