This episode originally broadcast on May 29, 2025. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2025/05/binary-system-podcast-459-love-death-and-robots-and-star-trek-lower-decks/This week we watched three whole episodes of the new season of Love, Death + Robots (yes we want pats on the head for that thank you) and while there's a lot to discuss regarding Robert Valley's amazing animation, a possible origin story for "Three Robots", and voice actors we've gotten to interview, what we really want to talk about is how messed up the imdb episode ratings are this season. (A 5.7 for "400 Boys"? A 4.1 for "Can't Stop"? Oh come on that's way too low. We know everybody's taste is different but that's gotta be trolls hate-reviewing the episodes, right?)After that Kathryn recaps episodes 2 and 3 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, so we can talk about how adorable Tendi and Rutherford are, how Mariner is determined to earn a demotion, and how great the creators are at coming up with some surprisingly terrifying monsters. ("Moopsy!")There's also the usual tangents into Bigger Than Worlds engineering, comic books based on animated characters, and the final volume of Adam Warren's Empowered series. This week's outro is a clip from Afterlife by Beat Mekanik.Correction: the cat's name in "The Other Large Thing" is "Dingleberry Jones." Come on, we were close.Correction: Kathryn is correct, Golgotha is pronounced GOWL guh thuh. Elizabeth's pronunciation (gol GOTH uh) is because she read it in a book and made assumptions.Correction: Elizabeth was both right and wrong: Bubblegum Crisis and Bubblegum Crash were the names of the anime series, Adam Warren's graphic novel was Bubblegum Crisis: Grand Mal.Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? A special on the Indigo Premiership Final – and what we can expect next season at this level – in the Welsh Rugby Union Podcast. To check in with Llandovery and Newport ahead of the final this weekend, we speak to Llandovery coach Euros Evans and Newport outside half Matt O'Brien. Plus we hear from Llandovery centre pairing, Wales U20's Macs Page and former Wales centre Adam Warren.
Our last interview from Damnation Festival 2022, with one of pioneering deathcore acts 'Oceano' We speak with their frontman Adam, to discuss their explosive set at the festival, coming back off a hiatus and his future plans for his YouTube channel.
I'm Xander and today we are going to be talking about a slamming Deathcore band called Nitheful with their crushing sophomore album The Creation Ov God. This band sounds like one long continuum of the breakdown from the song "Blasphemeon" by Infant Annihilator. Imagine if that one breakdown never ended and just kept going and going and going. I can't go any further into this review without mentioning the star of the show Derrek Connolly, one of the most talented vocalists going right now. It is clear his main influence must be Dickie Allen and he has taken that signature sound but dialed it up to 11. The first track we hear is titled "The Book Ov Divinity". It begins with some of the most raspy sounding high pitched screams. After the intro we are immediately blown away by the gravity blast beats by the drummer. The song as a whole slams with constant teases of the song ending but keeps coming back to hit you in the face with a barbed wire baseball bat. This is a reoccurring theme throughout the entirety Ov God's Creation. Next is "The Tyrant" which also guest features Kyler Cheek from the band Stygian Complex on vocals. It has a rather ominous opening with those warped and distorted voices saying something sinister before grossing the listener out with those wet gurgles that sound absolutely disgusting in the best possible way. "Drowned Creation" follows with yet another guest vocalist. This time we have Adam Warren from my personal favorite deathcore band Oceano, one of the most monstrous vocalists in the scene. Of course we are not disappointed with his fucking killer performance alongside this lesser known but devastatingly good band. "Incestual Infamy" is possibly my most favorite song on this new album as Derrek holds his own on the vocal delivery. I also enjoy the fact that this one has a pretty decent guitar solo played by Nick Saia. Nick is the main instrumentalist who writes all of the music for the band including bass and drums. That of course is supported with the nasally tunnel throat maneuver by Derrick which is further complimented with gnarly gutturals. "The Ten Pestilences Of Egypt" and "Jepthah The Devouted" both give us more of the hellish soundtrack that we all came here for. "Father Feticide" seems to have a slight symphonic feel to its intro with the demonic vocals layered over it. There's an operatic backtrack that plays throughout the song's duration which amplifies the listener's experience. Moving on we have the 7th track titled "Preptium Avarice II". I genuinely enjoy the sections of this album where the vocals sound like the almighty baphomet himself speaking. This one has yet another stand out guitar solo followed up with more bestial snarls which mocks the Bible. This ends with an evil laugh that merges with the next track which is written in Roman numerals. This apparently translates to a calendar date. I'm not sure what the date is. All I know is that "IIXXVIILxxv" is yet another banger that features another guest vocalist named James Cole. "The King Ov Sin" features 2 more guest vocalists - Fred Nylist from the band Nylist and Gui from Beyond Devastation. The song is just as brutal as you can expect it to be. I can't help but love how the song "Mother of Flesh" has a headbang worthy chug riff that has a element of grooviness to it."Sacrementum Ov Fillicide" is yet another deathcore delight complete with a 'bleeh' thrown into the mix for good measure. This one features guest vocalist Kyle Weeden from Cartosa who provides echoing gutturals and legitimate swine sounding pig squeals. And finally we come to "Sacriligious Suicide" another one that brings back the operatic choir to make a triumphing and epic finale. I recommend this one to anyone who desires to make people kill each other in a moshpit, and give it 8.5 out of 10.

“All lawyer advertisements don't have to fit the same mold,” says Adam Warren, President and Co-Founder of OpenJar Concepts. After initially launching OpenJar Concepts, Adam and his partner primarily focused on producing award-winning TV advertisements for their clients. While Adam is still a firm believer in the power of TV marketing, he also understands the importance of expanding into other media platforms. With his unique media strategies and forward-thinking approach, Adam has redesigned his company to better predict consumer behavioral patterns. When Adam designs marketing strategies for his clients, he encourages them to utilize multiple media platforms. Rather than steadfastly sticking to TV and radio campaigns, Adam explains the benefits a diverse presence provides a law firm to reach their perfect clients. To grow and scale your business in a continuously advancing world, it is crucial to meet consumers where they are. Tune into this week's episode of the We Do Marketing Hour Podcast to learn more about the evolution of digital marketing, the importance of diversifying your business strategies, and how Adam's innovative marketing mindset is changing the way law firms approach advertising in the future. Quotes • “We started recognizing that there were a lot of law firms that wanted to get into mass tort either through harmful drugs or medical devices but didn't want their names to be so front and center.” (11:14-11:34) • “Once we get those initial inquiries back to the law firm on how they plan to approach each case, then we can figure out on a one-by-one basis if we're going to bring them into the fold or not.” (21:46-22:00) • “All lawyer advertisements don't have to fit the same mold.” (32:17-32:19) • “I want to make sure that I can deliver on the full service capacity that we are promoting.” (35:19-35:22) • “It's going to continuously be the job of our team to keep their hand on the pulse of not just what's happening now, but what's possibly coming tomorrow.” (35:34-35:47) • “If you go in and say you want performance media only, you're precluding yourself from all sorts of other targeted media that might work really well for you.” (25:03-25:11) • “Most people's TV screens are now being carried around in their pockets all day. Or it's become their tablet, or their laptop.” (29:36-29:45) Links For a FREE 1:1 consultation with Alex please visit: https://calendly.com/wdwc-alex/15min?month=2021-06 Link with Alex on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wedowebcontent/ For guest speaker and topic requests, please send all inquiries to We Do Web Content's Director of Marketing Dina Davis, at contact@thewedomarketinghour.com
On the latest episode of From The Back Fields To The Bronx, managing editors Ricky Keeler and Matt Kardos discussed all four affiliates as they all have only a few weeks left in their respective seasons. The conversation started with Double-A Somerset as TD Bank Ballpark has been cleared for play after the devastation of Hurricane Ida. The Patriots will return home Friday pushing for a postseason bid. Matt gives insight on Luis Medina finding his command on the mound, Isiah Gilliam finding his form in the outfield, and some of the new faces that have been on the mound for the Patriots. When talking about the other three affiliates, Ricky and Matt went over Hudson Valley's power surge in the month of September, Tampa clinching a postseason bid with the help of Trey Sweeney and Anthony Garcia, and how Michael King and Adam Warren could maybe help the Yankees down the stretch with their success recently at Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Next, the conversation shifted to how teams approach the final weeks of the season. Is it still solely about development when a postseason spot is on the line or are the playoffs an afterthought considering the long offseason these players have had? The duo also dives into a scenario if Hudson Valley misses the playoffs, should Somerset call up Anthony Volpe (25 home runs this year) and have Oswald Peraza go up to Triple-A for the final two weeks of their season?

The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2020/04/binary-system-podcast-219-still-no-plan-social-distancing-edition/ No Night Vale episode this week, so after the usual sitrep (Summary: More ways to say "everyone's fine") we talk about about the Netflix series "Beastars" (Odd bit of trivia, Elizabeth watched the dubbed version and Kathryn watched it with the Japanese-language track. Both are excellent, but the difference in voice actors really made a difference in how much we liked some of the characters.) We've also got information on the freebies you can get by signing up to be Patreons for Adam Warren and Megatokyo. And we may be doing some research to see if Chris Evans looked as good in 2007 as he does in last year's movie Knives Out. (It's a tough job, but we do this for you, listeners. All five of you.) Ursula Vernon's twitter handle is @UrsulaV, and someone helpfully compiled her insanely entertaining Swiss Family Robinson live-tweets here. https://twitter.com/i/events/901828894952538113 This week's outro music is a clip from Technopop 7b by TeknoAxe. https://youtu.be/ja9nTdQpA7s
In 1804, King Charles IV of Spain enacted a royal order mandating the postmortem cesarean procedure in all of Spain's dominions. The Audiencia de Guatemala, way back in 1785, had already enacted a law mandating postmortem cesareans for all deceased pregnant women and even those suspected of being pregnant when they had passed away. Audiencias of other viceroyalties also enacted similar laws before 1804. What explains the emergence of the postmortem cesarean operation in colonial Latin America? What was the purpose of this procedure? Baptism Through Incision: The Postmortem Cesarean Operation in the Spanish Empire (Penn State Press, 2020), edited by Drs. Martha Few, Zeb Tortorici, and Adam Warren tell us the story of the postmortem cesarean operation in the Spanish Empire during the eighteenth century, though the book builds a genealogy that situates this procedure in a longer history that begins in the medieval period (and even earlier!) and extends way up the twentieth century. Part of the Latin American Original series (LAO) of the Pennsylvania University Press, this book centers on the translation (made by Nina M. Scott) of a fascinating medicoreligious text: Pedro José de Arrese's Physical, Canonical, Moral Principles . . . on the Baptism of Miscarried Fetuses and the Cesarean Operation on Women Who Die Pregnant. Additionally, the editors present us with shorter excerpts of a wide range of texts (other medical treatises, scientific and political journals, medical instructions) that also deal with the postmortem cesarean operation in the Spanish American world. Here we talk about transatlantic enlightenment cultures; different conceptions of life and death; the co-existence and co-production of religion and medical procedures; the changes that the cesarean operation went through in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; and lastly, as usual, why this history matters to the present. A must for those listeners that want to learn more about the history of the body, medicine, and gender! Lisette Varón-Carvajal is a PhD Candidate at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Original broadcast date May 23, 2019. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2019/05/binary-system-podcast-178-wtnv-148-the-broadcaster/ The latest episode of Welcome to Night Vale features the triumphant return of radio host Leonard Burton, all on his lonesome in the radio booth. And the town. And possibly the universe. Get yourself something comforting to drink - and possibly a night light - because the side-effects from the Blood Space War are really, really bad. Needing a distraction after that, the twins share a theory they found about how the switch from a character-driven to a plot-driven story may have made this last season of Game of Thrones a completely different creature from the previous seven seasons. This led to a discussion of another character-driven story (Adam Warren's "Empowered" series), and a quick review of some artists who's styles have evolved over the years, some successfully, others...less so. This week's outro music is a clip from Subspace by RAQIA. I highly recommend buying the song on Bandcamp; it's just as lovely as the one featured on the WTNV episode, but it also has an added violin track! https://raqia.bandcamp.com/track/subspace The (spoiler-free) Twitter thread that gives a point-by-point argument for why the final season of Game of Thrones is making people angry starts here. https://twitter.com/DSilvermint/status/1125856091261136896
Original broadcast date July 5, 2018. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2018/07/binary-system-podcast-134-good-morning-night-vale-pilot/ Bet you thought we were kidding when we said we were doing this. Yes, Binary System has now reached full meta status. This week the Welcome To Night Vale recap podcast is recapping the first episode of the podcast that's recapping the first episode of the Welcome To Night Vale podcast. Read that sentence through a few more times; it won't make any more sense, but isn't it glorious? After that we wander into Transformers (and how we love the IDW series but we're getting a little tired of all the homework you have to do to understand what's going on) and Adam Warren's Empowered, and cosplay plans for San Diego Comic-Con. We had a technical snafu about 3/4ths of the way through and had to switch to the backup recording, sorry for the slightly tinny sound. This week's outro music is a clip from long arm ready by winded. http://freemusicarchive.org/music/winded/fake_haight/09_-_winded_-_fake_haight_-_long_arm_ready Correction: when Elizabeth said in 2012 she recorded the first episode of the old podcast, she meant HER first episode of the old podcast. It'd been going for almost a year and a half before she got there.
In this episode, manga scholar Dr. Mimi Okabe steers Anna, Mav, and Andrew through the mecha/shōjo/shōnen (?) inspired Excalibur #18, “Wild Wild Wheels!” Featuring cars, cars, and more cars plus a dirty pair of Adam Warren homages speeding through a world that worships racing, including star race car driver Jamie Braddock. We discuss the politics of intercultural exchange, historical interconnections between manga and superheroes, and the difference between parody and tribute. We also slam Kurt for scolding Kitty, and continue not explaining Widget. Anna knows nothing about manga or anime, but thankfully everyone else knows lots!
Our regular-season finale! Who better to cap things off with than longtime pal Adam Warren? Ryan and Adam first met as drum students in a university jazz program who shared an affinity for '90s skate punk. They formed a mathy punk band, then a mathy post-hardcore band ("GLORY GLORY") which morphed into a "psychedelic dance party." These days, Adam is making pure pop music as WAANTS and producing tracks for others (including your host). He's got a new record out next month. We discuss it and much more.
The former leader of Glory Glory has spent the past few years building out his name as a go-to producer in the city while also meticulously crafting his debut solo project, waants—thoughtful and reflective pop music with lots of room for dancing. With his debut album Love U Forever due out mid-July, Warren offers a preview of its offerings, the long period of questioning his life choices from which it emerged, and what his favourite Vampire Weekend record is (it's Tara's too).
