What's the most realistic way a “dirty cop” plan would hold up in court, and why do TV writers get away with it?A movie recap turns into a long detour through The Walking Dead, Grey's Anatomy, and what it means to be permanently tied to one iconic role. From there it slides into Jennifer Lopez nostalgia, arguing over which of her movies were actually good, and realizing her singing voice is more distinctive than you remembered. Then the trip stories kick in. A birthday weekend, a Kroger Starbucks, and an all-time awkward public interaction that starts with, “Do you girls like elevators?” and somehow gets worse. The fight we were having before it happened, the immediate emotional whiplash after, and why we couldn't look away. Medieval Times gets reviewed like a consumer report. The horses and hawk are cool, the tournament runs long, and the sugar crash is real. Waffle House is loud enough to qualify as an assault, with plate slams, silverware buckets, and a screaming family turning breakfast into sensory warfare. There's also a return to the “K-pop boyfriend” conversation, what people mean when they say it, and why it can feel weird. That leads into a surprisingly earnest sidebar on poly relationships, “my wife's boyfriend” dynamics, and what that kind of arrangement does to people over time.Plus: caterpillars, butterflies, pollination, bad Italian food, a chaotic bill, and the kind of small annoyances that become the whole story.

Synopsis The Bone Temple, in addition to what I call my bedroom is the latest installment in the 28 days later franchise. It picks up almost directly after 28 Years Later leaves off. Spike (Alfie Williams) is forced to prove himself to join the Jimmies, a sadistic cult fashioned after the media personality Jimmy Savile, led by the leader Jimmy Crystal. Meanwhile, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) furthers his research into the rage virus and befriends Samson, the Alpha. Review of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple I found 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple enjoyable, but not particularly meaty compared to it's predecessor. The humanity and reverence for death found in the last film are spare in this film, which mostly focuses on the chaos brought on by the jimmies, and Dr Kelson's descent into hopelessness. The Script by Alex Garland, is high quality, but unfortunately just feels like a retread of similar story lines in The Walking Dead. Nia DaCosta's Direction is respectful towards Danny Boyle's style established in the previous films in the series, while showing her own style with stylistic flair. The standouts in the film are Jack O'connel, who played Sir Jimmy Crystal, and of course Ralph Fienes as Dr Kelson. O’Connell balances the two sides of portraying a cult leader well. Maintaining a believable facade of delusion and inspiration, while also showing the con-man manipulator that lurks behind the curtains. O'connell takes the great dialogue and makes it come alive through his performance, and is as enjoyable to watch in this as he was in Sinners. Ralph Fienes gets to play around a little more in this film. Instead of the stolid and enigmatic character from the last film, we get to see his humanity, practicality, and loneliness filled out and explored in this film. The best part of the film features him getting to display his own theatrics to the Jimmies, which left me laughing out loud. If you didn't like 28 Years Later because of the lack of zombies, you will be disappointed here as well, they play almost no part in this film with the exception of the tranquilized Samson. Overall it was highly enjoyable, although slightly less so than the last film Score 8/10

Walking Dead with Superhumans: The World of Flamevolt with Bruno CatarinoIn this episode of The United States Department of Nerds, the Chairman welcomes back comic creator Bruno Catarino to talk about his latest project, Flamevolt Issue #1 — a brutal, cinematic indie comic described as The Walking Dead with superhumans.Bruno dives into the inspiration behind Flamevolt, how his previous projects shaped this new series, and the creative process behind building a world driven by survival, power, and humanity. We explore the themes, visual identity, and why Issue #1 serves as a powerful entry point for new readers. The conversation also covers the Flamevolt Issue #1 Kickstarter, what backers can expect, and why supporting indie comics at the crowdfunding stage is more important than ever.If you're passionate about indie comics, creator-owned storytelling, and discovering the next big voice in comics — this episode is for you.
Today on the show, I'm joined by one of the most influential visual storytellers in modern comics, Charlie Adlard. Best known as the co-architect of The Walking Dead, Charlie helped redefine what long-form horror could look like on the page, grounding the apocalypse in raw humanity, brutal choices, and unforgettable imagery that fueled a global phenomenon across comics, television, and pop culture. Now Charlie is turning the page with a powerful new graphic novel, Altamont, a deeply personal and atmospheric work that strips everything down to essentials: memory, loss, place, and the quiet weight of time. Altamont was the location for the infamous tragic 1969 concert that claimed the life of a fan, by the hands of a security person. We'll talk about the origins of Altamont, and how it reflects where he is creatively today. We'll also look back at The Walking Dead itself: how lightning struck, why it connected so deeply with readers, what surprised him most about its rise, and how he views the legacy of the series now that the dust has settled.
Boo and Evan jump right on the new issue of Transformers and there are changes coming at ya, and there is a scene at the end that will remind you that Robert Kirkman is writing this story. The biggest strength here is how two completely separate storylines eventually collide. On one side, you've got Lord Jimmy and a Satan-worshipping cult terrorizing the countryside. On the other, Dr. Ian is isolated, obsessively trying to communicate with the Alpha. At first, they feel totally unrelated… until one key element pulls them together. The cult scenes are genuinely hard to watch in the best way possible. Strong performances across the board, excellent world-building, striking visuals, and a standout use of the soundtrack—especially a chilling late-film moment involving “Satan” that really hits. That said, my one real complaint is the same lingering issue with this franchise lately: I miss when the rage virus was front and center. This feels a lot like The Walking Dead shift—early seasons focused on zombies and survival, later seasons focused more on people and relationships with the zombies as background noise. That's exactly what's happening here. The rage virus is more present than last time, sure, but we don't get enough hordes, desperate chases, or full-on brutal mob kills. There's some of that intensity… just not nearly enough for me. #28YearsLater #TheBoneTemple #HorrorReview #ZombieHorror #RageVirus #CultHorror #MovieReview #HorrorMovies #ApocalypticHorror
In the landscape of modern publishing, the “isolated author” is a dying breed. To succeed as an indie today, you don't just need a gripping story; you need a community. This past Friday, the Writing Community Chat Show (recently ranked #3 in the UK!) sat down with a man who has mastered this evolution: indie thriller author William Lee.Known for his dark, atmospheric mysteries and a rise on TikTok, William joined us to pull back the curtain on his process, his live streams, and the upcoming release of his second book. From Failing English to Crafting Thrillers. It's a story many of us can relate to: William didn't start out as a bookworm. In fact, he admittedly “badly failed” his mock exams in school. It wasn't until a wake-up call from his father that he dove into creative writing techniques, eventually picking up reading as a hobby after high school. That spark turned into a flame, and eighteen months later, he released his debut, Gone Before the Moon. What started as a “superhero” concept morphed into a gritty, supernatural series when William realized he preferred realistic, high-stakes tension over “red spandex.”The “Secret Sauce” of TikTok Live. While many authors view marketing as a chore, William has turned it into a cornerstone of his brand. He moved away from shouting “buy my book” into the void and instead leaned into the power of TikTok Live. Why it works for him:* The Personal Touch: He wraps orders, signs books, and adds extras like bookmarks and tea bags live on camera.* Royalties: Selling directly through TikTok Shop is often more beneficial for indie authors than the traditional Amazon cut.* Vulnerability: By showing his face and chatting about his day, he sells himself as a person, which naturally leads to people wanting to read his work.Overcoming the “Indie” Hurdles.William was incredibly candid about the struggles of the self-published path, particularly Imposter Syndrome. Even with five-star reviews calling his work “atmospheric” and “un-put-downable,” he admits to worrying if book two will live up to the hype. His advice for those “dragging their feet” on social media? Just start. The community is supportive, and being “consistent” is far more important than being “perfect.”What's Next: The Black Veil Files.Fans of the series won't have to wait long for more.

The gang's all here to bid 2025 a fond (?) farewell. We're ranking the year's horror offerings, from Guillermo del Toro finally delivering the Frankenstein film Levi's waited 30 years for, to Sinners' hot-and-bothered vampires that some of us couldn't be bothered to finish.Weapons confused us until it didn't. The Long Walk made Levi cry. 28 Years Later pissed off Jonathan because The Walking Dead ruined everything. And somewhere in there, we imagined Lloyd the bartender giving Jack Torrance relationship advice.Films Discussed: Frankenstein, Sinners, Weapons, The Long Walk, 28 Years Later, Bring Her Back, Companion, The Monkey, The Ugly Stepsister, Silent Night Deadly Night, Welcome to Derry, Nosferatu, and—of course—Maximum Overdrive.Coming in 2026: Werwolf (it's spelled that way, we checked), Clayface, and whatever nightmare the Pinocchio public domain is cooking up.Give Caleb's wine podcast Natural State of Wine a listen—he's a level two sommelier and will make you a better person, probably.

Trailer de 'Zoomers': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLfZDsmEKLE Learn more about your ad choices. Merry Frankensteinian Christmas from Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, The Christmas Morning of Horror Movie Podcasts! Releasing on December 25, 2025, the festive Horror Avengers bring you a magnificent monster mash stitched together from October and November recordings and joyfully re-gifted as a full-blown holiday special. This memorable episode earns its place in show history by featuring one Horror Avenger's Specialty Segment twice(!) in the same episode! While holiday lights glow and carols echo, your favorite hosts chime in interstitially with seasons greetings. Nearly everyone shows up to celebrate (with a couple of absences blamed on a suspicious trip to the dog track). The entire affair is capped by Jay's own original dark Christmas carol, "The Tiny King," a grim yet hopeful closer that might be the closest thing to a Horror Christmas carol. The episode itself is packed tighter than Santa's sack, har har, with new Horror movie reviews recorded "in the field," classic black-and-white chills, and a centerpiece deep dive into Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein — complete with a clear spoiler warning for listeners. Jay of the Dead, Dr. Walking Dead, Dr. Shock, Gillman Joel, and Mackula gather around the slab to debate monsters, their meaning, and modern myth-making, while Mackula's enthusiasm climbs sky-high in true festive fashion across the episode's classic and contemporary picks. From an in-person recording of Jay and Dr. Bishop as they review "Shelby Oaks" and "Dream Eater" inside Jay's car together — to vintage chills and a surprisingly merry detour into "Predator: Badlands" — Episode 174 feels like a snowy marathon of bolts, bells, snowballs, and body parts — equal parts reverent, ridiculous, and heartfelt. By the time the bubble lights stop bubbling and the final notes of "The Tiny King" fade out, listeners are left with a warm glow, a few scorch marks, and the firm belief that this really is The Gold Standard of Holiday Horror Movie Podcasts. Join us!

Check out my (Jason's) other podcast, Wax Episodic, where friends and I cover our favorite current shows, like: Fallout, the crazy retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic series, with S2 premiering this week on Amazon Prime Video. Covered by me, Kara, and Kasi. Pluribus, the Twilight-Zoney Apple TV show from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, covered by me and Karen. (!) It: Welcome to Derry, the horrific HBO series, prequel to the recent It movies based on the Stephen King book. Covered by me and Shawn of Strange Indeed. Alien: Earth, the heady, gross-out FX/Hulu sci-fi series based on the Alien movies. Covered by me, Randy, and Kara. Available wherever you get podcasts, or at waxepisodic.com Come join our Discord and chat with me, Lucy, and other listeners: Don't know what Discord is? It's kind of like a chat forum, our own little private Podcastica space to talk about The Walking Dead, other shows, and whatever else we want. It's free, and it's fun. And Lucy is in there. Some of The Besties were skeptical of Dispatch, the spiritual follow-up to Telltale titles like The Walking Dead. But this new, TV-like superhero series won us over with each new episode. Plus, we share our predictions for winners and announcements at The Game Awards. Get the full list of games (and other stuff) discussed at www.besties.fan. Want more episodes? Join us at patreon.com/thebesties for three bonus episodes each month!
