Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. Comics legend Marjorie Liu joins our host Lodro Rinzler to discuss an incredibly fun and disturbing issue of X-Men! Before we sell you on all the hilarity, let's get real for a moment: Marjorie Liu is not just an extraordinary comic writer, she's also just a lovely, grounded, kind human being. It was an honor to have her on the show. Okay, now on to the silliness. In this episode we discuss how Marjorie writes from the gut and, in her words, her gut is really weird. Also, how she went through a cathartic experience writing X-23 (now Wolverine). Topics include: teenage Marjorie wrote X-Men fanfic in the Marvel Universe, a hat and trenchcoat is more than sufficient to disguise a six foot, blue, furry man Charles Xavier sends postcards from space Mesmero is a bag of dicks Also Mesmero read a Playboy once and thinks that's how people should always pose the Phoenix force has limits on how badly you can mess up Jean Grey At the end we answer questions from YOU! Yes, you! Then Marjorie Liu spits wisdom on how to be yourself even and especially when others are trying to tell you who you should become and how to transmute hatred and negativity into gold. This episode is not to be missed! Marjorie Liu is an attorney and New York Times bestselling novelist and comic book writer. Her work at Marvel includes X-23, Black Widow, Han Solo, Dark Wolverine and Astonishing X-Men. She is also the co-creator of Monstress from Image Comics, which has won multiple Hugo Awards, British Fantasy Awards, the Harvey Award, and five Eisner Awards, making Liu the first-ever woman (and woman of color) to win an Eisner in the Best Writer category. She teaches comic book writing at MIT. Marjorie's extensive work with Marvel includes the Dark Wolverine series, NYX:  No Way Home, X-23, and Black Widow: The Name of the Rose. She received national media attention for Astonishing X-Men, which featured the gay wedding of X-Man Northstar and was subsequently nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for outstanding media images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. You can find more of Marjorie over at her website. More of Lodro Rinzler's work can be found here and here and you can follow the podcast on Instagram at xmenpanelsdaily where we post X-Men comic panels...daily.

G'day, listeners! Our fiftieth episode brings some pretty cool content, a year now into our show! But first, be sure to checkout my YouTube channel, where I just posted an unboxing review of the new Marvel Legends Binary figure! This is the second hero-identity for Carol Danvers, and I go over her first appearance and history a bit in the video. Linked below! Then it's the usual News starting at 0:06:35, including an update on Moon Knight show speculation at 0:10:46, talk about Snowpiercer season 3 and the graphic novels it's loosely based off of, the confirmation of Mortal Kombat 2, and fresh news of Tom King's latest project, indie romance comics! I then present you with Netflix Live-Action He-Man & Toxic Fandom at 0:23:14, discussing the recent announcement of a new Masters of the Universe live-action movie, the previous (and delightful) Kevin Smith animated show, and the terrible behavior that spurned him from future similar projects. I love being a nerd, but there's a reason we're sometimes seen with a negative perspective, due to fans just like those.  The weekly Comic Book Picks are at 0:30:19, discussing released from the last week of January like Death of Doctor Strange's finale, the Bat/Cat special and John Paul Leon tribute, the glorious return of Saga #55 and Monstress #36, Tom King being a massive bleeding heart romantic, and more.  The Pull List for this week, Feb 1st and 2nd, starts at 0:52:47 and includes a satisfying amount of indie #1's, yet again! As well as the usual suspects.  Finally, I fully discuss the Book of Boba Fett ep. 5 starting at 1:00:42, titled Return of the Mandalorian! This discussion covers Star Wars Legends and lore, Easter eggs wazzoo, history of Mandalore, fun facts, references to the Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows as well as other Trilogy movies, and so, so much more. This was a winning episode, I don't think anyone can argue. Only two more in the season! I'll be back for another regular weekly episode on Monday the 7th of February, covering the penultimate episode of Book of Boba Fett, the weekly comic book pick and pull lists, and if there's interest, I'd love to do a bit on Afrofuturism! Until next week, have a blessed Candlemas, and always keep it sweaty.  Carol Danvers BINARY video: https://youtu.be/yINvxnhF6cU Website/Blog: https://sensationalshegeek.weebly.com/ Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sensational-she-geek-live-from-yancy-street/id1550410718 Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/45qGcYnP147aZBVIHC09lI?si=cb8b8c1a4f8c4ac7 Instagram: @annawiththecomics Twitter: @savageshegeek YouTube: Sensational She-Geek Donation and All Other Links https://linktr.ee/sensationalshegeek

Original broadcast date May 9, 2019. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2019/05/binary-system-podcast-176-wtnv-147-the-protester/ We now know why the internet was kind of going crazy after the latest Night Vale episode dropped. It wasn't just the very on-the-nose metaphor for what veterans go through when coming back from active duty, or the blistering take on the military industrial complex, and how leaders can only convince the population that they're "winning" the war if the war never stops. No, this episode is particularly dark because Night Vale's Blood Space War involves time travel, and now some very important people are being wiped from existence. After the recap we talked about some of the Hugo Awards nominees like Paper Girls, Saga, and Monstress. And we also talked about Avengers: Endgame. Because of course we did. (Minor spoiler about Spider-Man being in Endgame.)(But you probably already knew that). Juni Ba's new graphic novel is “A West African Fantasy Epic” and follows djeli (storyteller and advisor) Awa as she fights for (and with!) Monsour, heir to a throne, against gods and beasts for the rightful throne. Ba's work artfully mixes Cartoon Network stylistics with folk narratives from Ba's Senegal/West Africa, as he mentions in this great interview with the Comic Book Couples Counseling podcast. Paul unpacks some of why this book has jumped to the tops of his list, and Juni Ba to the group of creators Paul's most excited about. Good morning people! Today is Friday July 2nd, and this is episode 24B! This week's Friday episode starts off with the comic book Pick list: things I found great or interesting from the week's new comic book day reads. Some of the heavy-hitters for me were Barbaric #1, X-Factor #10, and Monstress #35, among the total of 11 discussed this week!  After the picks list is the discussion of Loki episode four on Disney+! This week's episode was far superior to the last, IMO, with a plethora of tidbits to pick up on, theories to speculate about, and reveals to excite us all! That end credits scene, whew! I go over the whole shebang, here. Then it's the news! There won't be an episode of Superman and Lois for the next few weeks, which is honestly fine, but the big ticket news item of the day is the Trial of Magneto! After the ending events of X-Factor #10, Leah Williams is bringing fab artist Lucas Werneck to this 2+ issue arc starting in August. Paired with a stunning Mark Brooks homage to Michelangelo's Pieta, this series is a lot to look forward to! The episode wraps up today with brief discussion of the leaked and subsequently announced Spider-Man 3 suit for Peter Parker. It's design tells us a few important things about the movie, which is coming out in December.  I'll be back on Empire Day--this Monday, July 5th, for episode 25A, discussing the comic comics book pull list, tonight's episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and any breaking news and announcements!  Website/Blog: www.sensationalshegeek.weebly.com Apple Podcasts Podbean Spotify Instagram: @annawiththecomics Twitter: @savageshegeek YouTube: Sensational She-Geek

Happy...er, Sunday?! SO sorry I got behind on this week's "B" podcast, but life got in the way! It's here, now, with an extra half-hour more run-time than usual! Whoops? This episode starts with the usual Comic Book Pick List, featuring things that I loved or thought were noteworthy out of this week's new comic book releases. The pick list discussion includes a solid chunk of time dedicated to this week's X-Men #20 before diving into Beta Ray Bill #3, Made in Korea #1, Monstress #34, and Strange Adventures #10, among others! With great reads comes great discussions! Then it's on to the week's media consumption, including catching up on the Bad Batch and Superman and Lois, my basic thought son Hulu's Modok, and the finale episodes of Black Lightning! For news, casting announcements for Secret Invasion, Sony's Kraven, and HBO's Green Lanterns are joined by news of an Okoye origin show coming to Disney+! Finally, the episode wraps up with some fun (?) MCU-related rumors, including one about December's Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the other about the newly announced Captain America 4--an both involve the rumored villains!  I'll be back this coming TUESDAY, June 1st, with an episode going over the week's comic book pull list, as well as whatever more new and speculation gets out until then! In the meantime, thank you for listening, and for your patience with this episode's lateness. Wherever you're from, have a delightful, nerd-sweat-filled weekend!

Hello there! This week's Friday "B" episode starts off with New Comic Book Day, discussing about my favorite things from this week's comic book releases! The talk includes great indie titles like The Many Deaths of Laila Starr #1, Luna #3, and Monstress #43, plus a bunch of goodies from Marvel, like The Mighty Valkyries #1, the Eternals #4, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Woman, the Women of Marvel anthology one-shot, and DC's Catwoman.  Then it's on the Black Lightning season 4 episode 8, which was a bit of a filler/catch-up episode after last week's Painkiller pilot, but there was still a lot to discuss and look forward to for next time.  For news and updates, we have casting conformations for the Flash movie at DC and Thor: Love and Thunder at Marvel, plus some casting news and speculation for the upcoming Marvel Secret Wars show on Disney+!  I wrap things up with the new Sony streaming updates, and finally some excited chatter about the forthcoming Wonder Girl series by Joelle Jones, staring Yara Flor! I'll be back Monday, April 26th for discussing the Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale, as well as HBO's Mortal Kombat movie! Have a great weekend, and get sweaty about your favorite nerdy stuff!

Good Monday everyone and what a Monday it is! I woke up this morning to see the first teaser trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings had dropped online! What a superb wat to start a sweaty week.  But first! I start the episode talking this week's comic book pull list, spotlighting comics written by and starring women. These also happen to be my favorite comics coming out this week, and include Luna #3, Monstress #33, Women of Marvel #1, Spider-Woman #11, and Captain Marvel #28. There are a lot of other comics I discuss as well, but those are the headliners of the week! After that, it's the regular Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode discussion, this week covering Friday's episode five. Following last week's bombshell, there was a lot to unpack, and we're definitely getting to a precipice of fan speculation. All discussed here! Then, finally, we can talk about Shang-Chi, and why there are so many reasons to be excited for this ground-breaking MCU film. From Awkwafina to the San Francisco backdrop; from the comics inspiration to modern Asian-American culture---of all the segments this week, I was most looking forward to discussing this teaser, as the movie behind it is such an important step. I hope I do it justice in explaining why.  I don't like ending things on a negative note, so after the unfortunate rumors of Black Lightning versus Superman and Lois, I go through the Entertainment Weekly article posted today, coinciding with the Shang-Chi teaser, really just reaffirming my point about what an iconic and paramount moment in film and comics history this movie will be.  As usual, I'll be back Friday, April 23rd, to discuss this week's comic book picks--things I enjoyed or were otherwise noteworthy from this week's comic book releases, as well as any industry or relevant pop culture news. Until then, as always, find something to get sweaty about, and sweat it out unabashedly.
