Carrie is joined by Breanna Butler to chat about cancel culture. They start the show by giving the definition of cancel culture, and then dive into how cancel culture tends to start, and how it can fester and turn into doing more harm than good. Carrie gives an example of a specific person who she REALLY wanted to cancel at one point, and how she navigates the truly tricky feelings of being so mad at someone and finding the space to allow them to see their fault and to prove change. DISCLAIMER: In this episode we talk a lot about empathy and giving people the benefit of the doubt in times when there is a gray area, or when it seems two people may be coming from two different places of WHAT THEY KNOW TO BE TRUTH causing a misunderstanding or disagreement. That being said: if you are in a situation where someone's only goal is to spew severe hate and devastation towards you, OR the other person has reached the point of no reason what so ever. I encourage you to remove yourself from that situation for your own wellbeing and safety. -------------------------- find us on Instagram: @carrie.gillaspie and @candidlyspeakingpodcast

Breanna Butler joins Carrie as her co-host today as we roll out a brand new outline for the podcast! Breanna and Carrie talk about Wisconsin weather in the winter and what -25 degrees ACTUALLY feels like. We then both (proudly) admit that we seek out Bachelor spoilers and give our reasoning why. We share our unfiltered thoughts about Colton as the Bachelor, talk about the incestuous nature of the Bachelor Nation "family", and give our picks for Bachelorette. Bre and Carrie compare the sociopath-ness of both Billy McFarland (Fyre: The Greatest Festival That Never Happened & Fyre Fraud) and Ted Bundy (Confessions of a Killer: The Ted Bunny Tapes). We discuss self-care and how important it is to personalize your self-care, break-up with the need to be "busy", and set boundaries for yourself. On our first "Ask Carrie" segment we give advice to a listener who battles between wanting their work to be seen, but also being scared to subject themselves to criticism. The little, but fierce Breanna Butler is the star of this show! In this episode, Breanna shares how she first got interested and started in media at a young age, and how she took the reins running the cable company when boss and mentor was diagnosed with brain cancer. We reminisce on some of our favorite shows we've shot together, and Breanna tells us how she navigates (and thrives!) working in a male dominated field. She gives us the run down on meeting her future husband at work, and how they navigate working together now as husband and wife. We both discuss making the decision to go cruelty-free, and we end the show by gushing over our mutual obsession with the Bachelor.
