Prosecutors call it LISK's "blueprint for murder." Defense calls it circumstantial. Today we examine every section of the planning document allegedly found on the Gilgo Beach Killer's hard drive. The file was hidden in unallocated space—someone tried to delete it. Forensic analysts recovered it. According to court documents, it allegedly contained eighty-seven details organized into operational sections."Supplies" allegedly listed cutting tools, acid, tarps, cat litter. "Body Prep" allegedly stated: "remove head and hands, remove ID marks like tattoos." "Things to Remember" allegedly contained the Long Island Serial Killer's lessons from previous crimes."Hit harder," one entry allegedly read. "Light rope broke under stress of being tightened."Suffolk County DA Ray Tierney stated: "The methodology in that document is in some cases identical to the methodology used to murder the victims in this case."Jessica Taylor was found along Ocean Parkway decapitated with mutilated tattoos. Valerie Mack's remains were scattered in a similar pattern. The document allegedly describes exactly this methodology. But here's the detail that takes the Gilgo Beach case to another level: references to FBI profiler John Douglas's Mindhunter. Specific page numbers. Prosecutors allege LISK studied behavioral analysis to avoid getting caught. When investigators returned to the alleged Long Island Serial Killer's basement, infrared examination allegedly revealed physical evidence matching the document's descriptions. Adhesive residue. Push pins in the drop ceiling. The defense has challenged the DNA evidence and pointed to other suspects. Rex Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to all Gilgo Beach murder charges. The LISK trial is set for September 2026. Two massive storylines emerged from the NFL Combine, and we're cutting through the noise on both. First up — Caleb Downs got flagged with a partially torn meniscus and a degenerative ACL, and the internet lost its mind. But what does "degenerative" actually mean, and should you be worried? We break down the medical terminology, compare it to past prospects like Jonathan Vilma, Todd Gurley, and Jay Ajayi, and explain why teams aren't sweating this one. Caleb Downs' medical flags explained: what mucoid degeneration actually is, why it's far more common than people realize, and why multiple NFL teams say his stock won't drop Makai Lemon's combine interview disaster — from bizarre podium body language to anonymous scouts saying he "absolutely bombed it," we run through all the reports and what it means for his draft stock Kevin Cole's weighted combine analytics deep dive: which metrics actually correlate to NFL success vs. which ones teams overvalue, covering defensive tackles and edge rushers Hidden value prospects to watch: DeMonte Capehart, Zane Durant, Mason Rieger, George Gums Jr., and Romello Height all flash as underrated athletic profiles Don't miss tomorrow's episode where we'll tackle linebackers, corners, and safeties through the same analytical lens. Sarah and Susie are participating in an unconventional macabre game when they predict which celebrities will die this year, but Sarah argues it's a "celebration of life." We debate the Tourette's Syndrome scandal at the BAFTAs and consider what the appropriate way to handle it was. Susie shares a story of a woman who's AI chatbot started claiming she would meet her soulmate at a particular time and place, and, spoiler alert, she didn't, but now she's raising alarm bells about the persuasive nature of AI and LLMs. We discuss the Olympic skater known as the Quad God and his disappointing performance in Madrid, and we learn the science of "choking" when put under pressure and techniques to help prevent the "yips," or choking when stressed. Susie describes The Queen of Chess documentary, the sexism in the sport, the little girl who beat Bobby Fisher's 30-year record, and why grown men are petrified of losing to a girl.Brain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:Get $30 off your first box - PLUS free Croissants for life - when you go to https://wildgrain.com/braincandy to start your subscription today! This episode is sponsored by Betterhelp. The Kouri Richins murder trial is underway and the prosecution has laid out their theory: Kouri poisoned her husband Eric with fentanyl for money and to be with her boyfriend. Today we're going through their case piece by piece—what they've presented, what they're arguing, and whether it adds up.Carmen Lauber is the star witness. She testified she bought fentanyl for Kouri four times—claiming Kouri said it was for an "investor." That cover story is absurd on its face, and the prosecution knows it. Carmen also testified Kouri asked for "the Michael Jackson stuff"—propofol. That's a hospital drug. You can't get it on the street. What does that tell us?Eric allegedly told his sister he believed Kouri was trying to poison him. He said it weeks before he died. There's an incident in Greece where he got violently ill after drinking something Kouri made. If the prosecution establishes a pattern of prior attempts, they're showing premeditation and persistence. The toxicologist confirmed Eric had five times the lethal dose of fentanyl. She also found quetiapine—Kouri's medication—in his system. Eric had no prescription for it. How did it get there?Kouri's internet searches are damning: luxury prisons, lie detector tests, recovering deleted messages. She deleted texts around Eric's death. Her phone showed activity when she claimed to be sleeping. The prosecution is arguing she planned this, executed it, and then tried to cover it up.The Valentine's Day sandwich allegation—a failed first attempt. The insurance policies. The boyfriend's knowledge. The grief book that now reads like performance. Explore the intriguing dynamics of grand juries and the famous saying, "you can indict a ham sandwich," in this insightful legal podcast episode. So grab your lunch (ham or otherwise) and settle in as the Lawyer Talk team serves up another thoughtful, informative, and entertaining legal discussion!Steve Palmer and Troy dive deep into the world of grand juries and legal process—using the infamous "ham sandwich" saying as their springboard.Have you ever wondered why people say a prosecutor can "indict a ham sandwich"? You're in the right place.Steve Palmer and Troy start by breaking down the purpose and mechanics of grand juries, explaining how they work behind closed doors, the rights of witnesses and targets, and the role of prosecutors. They navigate the reasons why the phrase became so popular (spoiler: it traces back to a colorful New York judge), and explore a recent news story—where a grand jury refused to indict six members of Congress, despite political pressure and public scrutiny. The conversation is lively, packed with real-world anecdotes, law school insights, and a refreshing lack of political bias. By the end of the episode, you'll not only understand the nuts and bolts of grand juries, but you'll see why sometimes, even with all the ingredients, not every "sandwich" ends up on the table. Here are 3 key takeaways:Grand Jury ≠ Trial Jury: As Steve Palmer explains, a grand jury isn't there to determine guilt or innocence, but to decide if there's enough evidence to indict someone. Defense attorneys and the accused often aren't even in the room. The “Ham Sandwich” Origin: The phrase wasn't coined in a legal opinion, but by New York Judge Saul Wachtler—ironically, after his own brush with the system. It highlights how easily indictments can happen if prosecutors push for them.Recent Congressional Case: A recent grand jury refused to indict several members of Congress, despite DOJ efforts—showing that indicting “a ham sandwich” isn't always guaranteed, especially when political and technical factors are at play.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? The ideas are not new, and it's short on specifics, but will President Trump's “The Great Healthcare Plan” lead to serious health reform? AnneMarie Schieber, managing editor of Health Care News and Devon Herrick, of the Goodman Institute Health Blog discuss the pros and cons of the plan's “four pillars.” Will price transparency mean anything in a dysfunctional health care system where few people pay directly? Are Trump's drug price deals the kind of drug price reform patients need? Will proposed ACA rules lead to lower cost “indemnity” style health insurance? Also, Sen. Rand Paul wants to remove nationwide liability protections for vaccine makers, what about ending vaccine mandates, and Elon Musk and DOGE make it easy to “crowdsource” Medicaid fraud investigations. How close is Iran to building a nuclear weapon—and has the U.S. actually set their program back? In this episode, Lisa sits down with Vice Admiral John W. Miller, a leading expert on Iran and military strategy, to break down the reality behind the headlines. From uranium enrichment levels to the aftermath of recent U.S. strikes, this conversation cuts through the uncertainty surrounding Iran’s nuclear capabilities. The Vice Admiral explains why Iran’s stockpile of 60% enriched uranium is so concerning, how quickly it could potentially be turned into weapons-grade material, and what we still don’t know about the location of that nuclear stockpile following recent military action. They also dive into: Whether U.S. bunker-buster strikes actually crippled Iran’s nuclear program How close Iran really is to nuclear breakout Why verification—not just negotiation—is the key to any deal Whether Iran is negotiating in good faith or simply buying time How internal unrest inside Iran could impact the regime’s behavior What happens if diplomacy fails—and whether more military action is coming How countries like Israel, China, and Russia factor into the equation Plus, a candid assessment of President Trump’s Iran strategy—and whether it’s working. With tensions rising and uncertainty still high, this episode gives you a clear, expert-level understanding of one of the most dangerous geopolitical flashpoints in the world today.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Is love truly blind? Just ask the Love is Blind contestant who accidentally glued her eyeball shut (we're not laughing, you are). Today, we're celebrating Sarah's birthday by hoping she gets to do what she loves most, sneaking food into the cinema. We also vent about a torturous hike ruined by unprompted motivational speeches from men on the trail. Then, we get into the science of attraction. Think you have a "type"? Sarah explains why you're wrong, who you actually like, and why the person of your dreams is probably already off the market. The Dating Debate: Be honest, do you actually have a "type" or do you think it's all a myth?#LoveIsBlind #DatingMyths #RelationshipAdvice #DatingPsychology #MovieSnacks #HikingAdventures #TrailEtiquetteBrain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:This episode is sponsored by Betterhelp. Ruthie Polinsky and Clay Harbor check in to talk about the NFL Scouting Combine taking place in Indianapolis, diving into what they're hearing around the league and how it all connects back to Chicago. The conversation quickly turns to the Bears' roster outlook, including reports that the team is open to moving D.J. Moore and Tremaine Edmunds, and what that could signal about their long-term plan. They also explore Tyson Bagent's value on the trade market and debate what kind of return would even make sense. From there, the focus shifts to draft philosophy: Should the Bears prioritize roster needs or simply take the best player available? Ruthie and Clay react to Ben Johnson and Ryan Poles speaking to the press for the first time since the season ended, and what stood out from their messaging. The episode wraps with some creative brainstorming, as the duo tosses around potential rule changes the NFL could consider adding in the future.

Our Seattle Seahawks are kicking off free agency with five starters and two more key players potentially hitting the open market in two weeks at the start of the new league year. We run through some of the challenges general manager John Schneider faces with keeping each player and take a look at some of the projected salaries by The Athletic and Pro Football Focus. Kenneth Walker may have the biggest gap between how Seahawks fans would value him vs how he may be valued by another team, but a close second could be Boye Mafe. Mafe is considered one of the top 5 edge rushers in free agency, but his play time was limited in 2025 due to the play of Demarcus Lawrence and Uchenna Nwosu and Derick Hall. The amount of potential turnover in the secondary area of concern. Tariq Woolen, Josh Jobe and Coby Bryant are all expected to see contracts upward of $10 million per year and closer to $20 million per year in the case of Woolen. Is that the best use of salary cap dollars to try and keep all three? How would we prioritize? We take a look at the exclusive rights free agents and what that designation means as well as the restricted free agents and the one starter who stands out. In the second half of the show, we talk about potential rule changes (and the lack of rule changes) that are being discussed in Indianapolis. We could see a greater emphasis placed on officiating from the booth than on the field for certain calls. We call out the Los Angeles Rams and Augusta National on news that came out this week about both. Breaking today: Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents, director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner. He appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom with a shaved head and brown jail jumpsuit, sitting behind glass as his public defender Kimberly Greene entered the plea on his behalf. He spoke only once—saying "yes" when asked if he would waive his right to a speedy preliminary hearing. But what does a not guilty plea actually mean in a case where the defendant was arrested the same day his parents were found dead?It means the defense is preserving options. In California, insanity defenses require dual pleas and trigger bifurcated trials. Guilt is determined first, sanity second. Today's plea was procedural—a placeholder while psychiatric evaluations continue and strategy solidifies. The options: full insanity under M'Naghten, requiring proof Nick didn't understand his actions or know they were wrong. Diminished actuality, using his schizoaffective disorder to argue he couldn't form premeditation, potentially reducing charges. Or incompetence to stand trial, arguing he can't understand current proceedings.Former judge Halim Dhanidina said he doesn't see a full insanity defense here—but mental illness could reduce murder to manslaughter. That's likely the real play.DA Nathan Hochman hasn't decided on the death penalty. The preliminary hearing is April 29th. The case is just beginning.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Forget the opening statements. Forget the attorneys' spin. In this episode, we go straight to the source — the two recordings that captured Kouri Richins in the hours after Eric Richins was found dead in their bed.First, the 911 call. Placed at 3:21 a.m. on March 4, 2022. Kouri is crying hard. She can barely form sentences. She tells the dispatcher her husband isn't breathing, that he's cold, that she doesn't know what happened. When asked about CPR, she says she doesn't know how. The defense played this for the jury and called it the sound of a wife becoming a widow. But the prosecution says Kouri first accessed her phone at 3:06 a.m. That's fifteen minutes before she dialed 911. What was happening during those fifteen minutes? Then, Deputy Nguyen's bodycam footage. Kouri is on camera answering law enforcement questions while paramedics attempt to resuscitate Eric in the background. She appears distraught. She recounts celebratory drinks around 9 p.m., going to sleep in her son's room, and finding Eric cold when she came back to the bedroom. She tells officers he may have taken a THC gummy. Her mother Lisa Darden arrives and brings up an allergy shot Eric had the day before. Nobody at that scene — not the deputies, not the medics, not the family — knew fentanyl was in his system. Deputies were wondering if it was an aneurysm. We break it all down. The tone. The body language. The details she volunteers. The details she doesn't. And then we hand it to you. What do you see when you watch this footage? Genuine grief or something else? We want your take in the comments.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
