Hey everyone, thanks for tuning in to the latest episode of the LDS Mission Podcast! Today on episode 194. Getting Past Mental Roadblocks, we're talking about something that I know so many of us struggle with - mental roadblocks and limiting beliefs. As I shared, it's so easy for us to get caught up in this idea that we need to have the "right" thoughts and feelings before we can take action. But the truth is, those mental roadblocks are never going to fully go away. Our brains are wired to seek out problems and want to avoid discomfort. So instead of waiting around for the perfect mindset, I encouraged listeners to just feel the fear or insecurity and do it anyway. We can't let our inner critic, that "Grumpy Grandma" voice, keep us stuck. It's all about having the courage to take small steps forward, even when it feels uncomfortable. Because that's where the real growth and progress happens. I hope this episode helps you break through your own mental blocks and start taking action towards your goals. Let me know if you have any other questions! As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends. In this episode, Alison engages in a powerful conversation with Julie Bee, an accomplished author, speaker, and serial entrepreneur, as we delve into the pressing issue of burnout—a topic that resonates deeply with many business owners today. Many people know someone who has faced this challenge, yet there's a gap in actionable advice available to combat it effectively. This episode aims to bridge that gap through a candid discussion about Julie's personal experiences and her initiatives to help others navigating similar challenges.Julie shares her extensive background as a business owner, having spent nearly 16 years either running her own ventures or supporting others in their enterprises. This experience has shaped her focus on the often-ignored issue of business owner burnout, which she notes is not just limited to individuals but extends to leaders in various organizations. They tackle the harsh reality that many business owners feel unprepared to manage burnout, leading to the unfortunate exit from what could be successful and fulfilling careers. Her conviction lies in the belief that small businesses form the backbone of local communities and must be supported if we aim to foster thriving neighborhoods.Throughout the episode, Julie delineates two critical definitions of burnout: as a depletion of resources and a persistent sense of stress without relief in sight. They examine the societal expectations that glorify overworking, where long hours are often worn like badges of honor. This mindset contributes to feelings of guilt among successful business owners who may find themselves working less than their peers. Both Alison and Julie agree that it's high time we shift this narrative—burnout should not be seen as a personal failure but recognized as a universal concern that requires open discussion and proactive solutions. In addition, they explore the misconceptions surrounding burnout, including the belief that it necessitates a complete withdrawal from work to be addressed. Julie emphasizes the importance of understanding burnout's early warning signs, which often manifest long before physical symptoms arise. Identifying these indicators for oneself can be a pivotal step in ensuring mental and physical well-being, allowing individuals to intervene before reaching a breaking point.HIGHLIGHTS:13:07 Navigating Burnout Solutions14:55 Julie's Book and Its Insights26:08 Practical Tips for Preventing BurnoutCONNECT WITH JULIE:WebsiteLinkedInInstagramYouTubeSPONSOR:Cellev8Discount code: THEALISONK2024ALISON'S LINKS:Website | Facebook | Twitter | InstagramGET MY FREE 4 part Pop-up Podcast Series

Co-Host Marcus Oakey (https://mountaintoppodcast.com/marcus) My returning guest is British charisma coach Marcus Oakey, who is exactly who you need to help you get past small talk with people, and especially get through that awkward 'cordial' stage that ensues. What is it exactly about cordial small talk that's lacking, and what kind of conversation is it we should actually be moving toward instead? And what if you're indeed pretty good at making conversation with people, but still encounter some who are virtually impossible to talk to? Is it YOU, or THEM? And in such cases, where can you find small talk out of nowhere when you need it? And what do you do if you don't get the desired response from the other person? Do you have to be a brilliant conversationalist to be a charismatic presence? When it comes to early-stage conversation, how can we as men unwire our competition mindset, as if every interaction is going to be a win or a loss? The truth is you can achieve true connection and rapport with people and make them like you without any real advanced skill whatsoever...in fact, as one story illustrates, often less can be more. What is Marcus' hack for objectively moving from cordial talk to more meaningful conversation? How many times should you attempt to expand a conversation with someone before wishing them well and signing off? The answer to that one WILL surprise you. And finally...what are the hazardous consequences of waiting for someone else to make the first move conversationally?
