The holiday season is fast approaching, friends! You know, the busy season where we overperform, try to make everything perfect  and say yes to all the things. But, what would the holidays look like if we didn't run around trying to make others happy all the time? I'm so excited to have my friend and prolific author, Karen Ehman, back on the show again this week. We sit down to talk about Karen's new book When Making Others Happy Is Making You Miserable and how to live out your own priorities despite what others think. Plus, Karen shares ways that we can cultivate strategies for knowing when to say yes and how to say no to ultimately break the pattern of people pleasing and confidently live our lives. This one is super practical, with grace-filled advice, and I think it will resonate with so many of us during this busy season.  Listen in to hear more about:  Why Karen knew it was time to write this particular book How saying no can be one of the most important things we do How to handle the pushers, pouters and guilt-bombers when we start putting up boundaries Karen's practical and simple advice on what to say yes or no to and shares her “stop it” statements for recovering “people-pleasers”    Favorite quotes: 1. As Christians, we want to be loving and helpful. We want to serve, we want to put other people before ourselves and consider others as better than ourselves. We want to do all of that. But when we cross the line and we're doing it because someone expects us to or we're trying to get in their good graces, now we are doing the right things for the wrong reasons. 2. I realized after the first 10 years of parenting that I don't have to do every single tradition, every single year, in order to make fun memories for my kids. 3. Other people's happiness is not my assignment. It's God's assignment to bring people joy. It's not my assignment to bring them temporary happiness.  4. If God is really calling you to do something, don't fail to do it because you're afraid that somebody won't approve. You don't need their permission.    In this episode I answer this question: 1.When you're working with your business coaching clients, what habits or beliefs are the ones that make some of them unable to succeed? (40:45) Great things we discussed:  1. Karen Ehman 2. When Making Others Happy Is Making You Miserable 3. Smooth Deep Brown Noise4. Only Murders in the Building 5. The Hidden Art Of Homemaking 6. Vegetable pods 7. Picture This  8. The Story I'll Tell 9. Invasion  10. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! In this episode, hosts Alan Sanders and Walt Murray welcome actor Demond Wilson who starred in Sanford and Son as well as other shows and movies. As always, they start by going to the beginning. Demond was born in Valdosta, Georgia, but moved to Harlem, NY shortly thereafter. By age 4, he was starting to do voice work on the radio. He loved to perform, working his way to the Apollo Stage at age 12. He continued to work on his talents, while also staying involved in sports throughout high school. His country called him into service just before he turned 20. He joined the Army and served almost two years in Vietnam before getting wounded and returning home to the states. Upon his return, he dove head-long into theatre and getting small roles in films. Perhaps his biggest break was being cast opposite Redd Foxx in the hit television show, Sanford and Son. Playing the role of Lamont, son to Foxx's, Fred, the duo would go on to make television history. As Demond puts it, beyond opening doors for other black actors and shows, Sanford and Son was funny! He reminds everyone, without the humor, none of the other messages of the show would have lasted. He would continue to act, but as he got older, felt a calling to the ministry. He always knew God was calling him to serve and when the time was right, he made the move. In between, Demond Wilson has written a pair of books. The first deals with his views of where the world and society is going called, "The Millennium: A New Age Expose." The other deals with his memoirs from being on the set of Sanford and Son called, "Second Banana." Demond did write a children's book years ago, but now wants to update it and release it in the coming year. He also has a few other projects in the works, but is waiting for life to get a little closer to normal. After thanking Demond for his time, Alan and Walt decide to forego the movie review. Instead, they dive into odd news before jumping into the entertainment segment where the remind everyone what they have been watching, reading and listening to over the past week. WATCHING Walt recommends the docuseries, Bad Sports, on Netflix. He also loves, Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. Finally, as only Walt can say with a straight face, the "fantastic" movie, Tommy Boy, is now running on Netflix. Alan watched Dune (part 1) for a second time and loved it even more. He caught the documentary, The Show Must Go On: Queen + Adam Lambert and said it was a feel-good watch. He then watched, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. Finally, on YouTube, he tries to never miss the reaction videos for Ashleigh Burton. READING Walt has ordered some books, but hasn't had time to read any. Alan claims he is trying to carve out time to finish reading, "Dune." LISTENING Walt likes to listen to, The Thrilling Adventure Hour podcast, The Kimmer Show podcast and Radio Labyrinth podcast. Alan continues to enjoy the Iron Maiden album, Senjetsu, and tries to never miss 60MW Podcast.

With the release of Vue 3, developers now have access to the Composition API, a new way to write Vue components. This API allows features to be grouped together logically, rather than having to organize single-file components by function. Using the Composition API can lead to more readable code, and gives developers more flexibility and scalability when developing their applications, which signals a bright future for Vue. At least, this is what today's guest believes! Today, we speak with Oscar Spencer, developer at Tidelift and co-author of the Grain programming language, about Vue's Composition API and why he believes it represents great things for Vue. We touch on Options API, our opinions of a template-first approach, and why Composition API is infinitely better than Mixins, as well as how JavaScript can prepare developers for Options API and what to watch out for when you first start working with Composition API in Vue. All this plus this week's picks and so much more when you tune in today! Key Points From This Episode: An introduction to today's guest, Oscar Spencer. The panel shares what sound their Slack makes when they receive a new message. Oscar shares his personal passion for the Vue Composition API. Why he believes that Vue's bright future includes the options API too. Why Composition API represents great things for the future of Vue. The panel discusses commit messages, interactive rebasing, and squashing. What Oscar means when he says that the Composition API makes Vue more scalable. Oscar and the panel weigh in on taking a template-first approach  Discover Oscar's situational approach to composables when reusing business logic. Composition API versus Mixins and why Oscar believes Composition API is superior. Whether Options API or Composition API is easier to teach to a beginner developer. How JavaScript prepares developers for Options API, which Oscar describes as ‘cozy'. Oscar on how to know when to use Composition API versus Options API. Why you would choose Composition API over simply using JavaScript: reactivity. The panel shares some of the longest Vue components they have worked on. Render functions in Vue and Oscar's perspective on React versus Vue. What to look out for if you're new to Composition API; not understanding Vue's reactivity. Why the coolest thing Oscar has done in Vue is write a backend using the reactivity API. This week's picks: Only Murders in the Building, The Artful Escape, Dyson Sphere Program, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, and more! Tweetables: “When I look at the Composition API, I see a very bright future for Vue.” — @oscar_spen (https://twitter.com/oscar_spen) [0:02:22] “The Composition API just gets rid of a whole host of issues that you have with Mixins. In fact, Mixins were my only complaint in Vue 2.” — @oscar_spen (https://twitter.com/oscar_spen) [0:24:05] “Don't be too scared of the [Composition API]. It was definitely designed with composition in mind. It was designed for you to have your composables consuming composables and not blowing up the world – [while] being fairly easy to follow as well.” — @oscar_spen (https://twitter.com/oscar_spen) [0:27:34] “Regular JavaScript modules only get you so far because, fundamentally, what these regular JavaScript modules are missing is the reactivity. What the Composition API is letting us do is compose things that are reactive.” — @oscar_spen (https://twitter.com/oscar_spen) [0:41:44] “By far the biggest gotcha with the Composition API is not understanding Vue's reactivity. That's going to be the biggest gotcha that you can possibly run into. I highly recommend, instead of trying to wing it, just go look at a tutorial.” — @oscar_spen (https://twitter.com/oscar_spen) [0:57:02] Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Vue-oxford (https://www.npmjs.com/package/vue-oxford) Unconventional Vue - Vue as a Backend Framework (https://www.vuemastery.com/conferences/vueconf-us-2020/unconventional-vue-vue-as-a-backend-framework), Oscar Spencer (VueConf US 2020) AITA for being mad at my parents for decorating my first house without my consent? He figured it out, by elongating the sound file, this is your favorite Idiots in a nutshell. Now that Kops figured out the file it is time to set up Part 2 of the conversion with Hailey, Lisa and Steven Kops (19:29).Experts Hailey, Lisa and Steven Kops are back (31:19) to talk about the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Oberstdorf, Germany. During the interview, Hailey and her parents tell Lee about their expectations in Germany, how many slots were open for the Olympics and Hailey's overall mindset. Hailey then discusses her performance in the long and short programs, handling the pressure, how the other teams performed and then the suspense in waiting to see the final results. Steven and Lisa give their point of view and reactions to how the last two teams performed. To wrap up this amazing story Hailey, Lisa and Steven run through their emotions and reaction to Hailey qualifying. In closing, Lisa and Steven explain how they came to the decision to allow Hailey to skate on the Sabbath and the importance of Judaism in their life then Hailey covers her upcoming schedule in preparation for the Olympics. The sisters are kicking off this episode with a bang. Firstly, it's a bones day, second it's spooky Hallowen and finally it's the 1 year anniversary of the podcast! The random assortment of topics discussed at the top of the pod include but are not limited to; Halloween blues, future Halloween decoration plans, favorite Halloween costumes, learning that TikTok is dead and the Princess Switch 3. SKIPPERS head to around the 37:30 mark… It's a double shot this week. Elizabeth and Sarah dig into two shows that they've watched that not enough people are talking about. First up, The Baby-Sitters Club (season 2). It's a feel good show made for tweens that is genuinely enjoyed by two adults. You've got the portrayal of normal seeming middle schoolers mixed with responsible parents. It's a refreshing change of pace to the normal teen shows the sisters typically watch. Second (head to 51:53), Only Murders in the Building. Basically just be ready for 30 minutes of praise for Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez and this charming show about murder. Be warned major spoilers will be discussed. That and of course a love of dips.

You all saw that video of Daniel Radcliffe, right? Ariana is in love with the man due to the unusual anthology series Miracle Workers, and tells us all about the potential link between each unrelated season. Having fallen down a DanRad hole, the only issue is that he hasn't yet claimed his throne as a romcom prince. If you're in the mood for a cozy mystery, Natalie can't recommend Only Murders in the Building highly enough as a major hype of fall TV, and Only Murders was Brittany's hype too, until she got some big news about her favorite musical of all time.  That's right, it's time for Brittany to scream about Groundhog Day, and if you haven't ever heard her do this before, you're in for a real treat. Her gripe, however, is a pretty serious one, as she shares some personal work-life balance issues that have made her turn pleasurable hobbies into a form of work, creating guilt for taking time out to watch or read literally anything. On a lighter note, Natalie is griping about both her consistent hyperfixation with every show's brattiest, nastiest sad boy (some of the greatest hits include Thomas Barrow from Downton Abbey, Jackson Whittemore from Teen Wolf, Yuri Plisetsky from Yuri on Ice, Ben Gross from Never Have I Ever, and, most recently and powerfully, Jamie Tartt from Ted Lasso) and others' inability to understand that this trope exists for a reason and the reason is ~growth. Brittany gives us two truths and a lie about her history seeing her beloved Groundhog Day, and our question of the day reveals a secret hobby that she's been keeping and a discussion about the value of adults continuing to try activities for fun without necessarily needing to be good at it. #ANA - Ask NATW Anything: “What *thing* have you become obsessed with since the pandemic began?” Resources/Recommendations: Explaining Subjectify on Not About The Weather Episode 37 Tim Minchin says Groundhog Day is coming back to London Groundhog Day The Musical Original Broadway Cast Recording on Spotify Brittany and Tim Minchin on Instagram Only Murders In The Building - Official Trailer Miracle Workers - Official Trailer Daniel Radcliffe's Miracle Workers season 3 dance scene What If - Official Trailer James Acaster having a breakdown on The Great British Bake-Off subjectifymedia.com @subjectifymedia on Twitter Subjectify Media on Instagram Subjectify Media on Facebook Subjectify Media on Tumblr This episode's hosts are: Brittany Lovely, Natalie Fisher and Ariana Quiñónez. In this episode, hosts Alan Sanders and Walt Murray sit down with Atlanta radio veteran, author and podcaster, Pete Davis. Well before Pete got into writing and podcasting, he thought he was going to be an actor. He wanted to move to LA and be a star. That was until he saw a live radio show. From that point, he was focused on a career on the air waves. And, sometimes, being at the right place at the right time is all a person needs. When the opportunity arose to be involved in an evening talk show, he ran with it. Along the way, he would bring up sports, movies, current events, politics, or whatever else happend to be in his head. However, no story would be as compelling without a little drama. At the height of Atlanta radio programming, WGST decided to launch a brand new branding strategy -- Planet Radio. It will forever go down in history as one of the biggest radio debacles in history. While Pete did manage to survive a lot of the turmoil, it did create some challenges for him. As he was bouncing around, he took up writing and put out a couple of books related to his love of sports. The first one is, "The Totally Biased Guide to College Football." The second is, "I Love Texas/I Hate Oklahoma," and the last is, "Canines of College Football." While using social media to help promote his writing, he decided to get into podcasting. He created the show, Holy Crap, It's Sports, which can be found on most pod-catchers. Given Pete's love of sports, it made sense to spend the last 10-15 minutes of our interview discussing some sports. You may or may not know the teams or the sports, but what you will quickly learn is it doesn't matter! Pete is such a funny guy, you just want to hear what he has to say. Pete was not able to stick around for the rest of the show., so after his interview, Alan and Walt spent time going through odd news stories. They closed the show with the entertainment segment, breaking down what they have been watching, reading and listening to over the last week. WATCHING Walt is almost done with Only Murders in This Building and highly recommends it. He has begun to dive into season 3 of The Movies that Made Us on Netflix and Bad Sports, also on Netflix. Alan saw Dune part 1 and could not praise it enough. He believes is it a cinematic masterpiece, akin to a Christopher Nolan film. He also suggests the YouTube reaction channels, Ashleigh Burton and Popcorn in Bed. READING We are just going to go past this section as both Alan and Walt have brains that function just above those of most primates and have not been able to turn the pages of a book in the last few weeks. LISTENING Walt continues to dive into the podcast series, The Murdaugh Murders. He has also been listening to The Thrilling Adventure Hour and Wondery. Alan contines to listen to the latest Iron Maiden album, Senjetsu. He also suggests the podcasts, 60MW and Radio Labyrinth.
